Jhonen wipes his face with a wrinkled hand. "You know, I’ve said goodbyes before. And lots of them were to people I knew I’d never see again. And even though I know I’ll see you again… I think this one is the hardest."

The simple fisherman sniffs wetly, then looks up on the wall to where a dusty suit of armor and several weapons are fixed in place. "You’ve got the wanderlust, that itch to go and see and do… It won’t go away until it’s been scratched. And when it has, and when you’re done, just… remember that it’s okay to settle down and live a normal life."

He meets Kay’s gaze with his own red-rimmed eyes. "Okay?"

Kay gently places her hands on her fathers face, tears beginning to well in her own eyes. She had tried to stay strong for her father but his tears tore at her heart string.
"I know that this will not be forever father, but you’re right... I need to do something more then living my whole life in our small fishing village. I want to help the world and shape the stars, just like you did.

Jhonen places his hands on hers as he weeps. Her tears begin to freely flow and Kays voice begins to shake as she assures her father that everything will be alright.

After a minute or so Jhonen pulls back. "It's too bad your mother isn't here to see you off. But she and I talked, and we made a decision." His knees creak as he stands and moves over to the wall. There is one weapon there that isn't covered in dust; neither dust nor rust can tarnish this blade.

The old fisherman reverently retrieves the longsword. "This... You know its story, at least most of it. Our ancestor Aihonen used it to kill Icasaracht, and I used it to kill her again hundreds of years later." A smile fights its way to his lips. "Hopefully you won't have to fight a dragon. But you never know, when you're on an adventure."

He holds the sword out for his daughter to take.

Kays tear filled eyes go wide as the fabled blade is handed to her "Papa you cant..." Kay’s sentence is cut short as Jhonen thrusts the blade into her hands, shivers run down her spine as Kay takes the blade from her father. Kay sheaths the blade and wipes the tears from her fathers face and then her own. "father, you and mother will always be with me" she says as she places a hand over her heart, she can feel it racing with a mix of anxiety and anticipation. Kay turns her back to Jhonen and openly weeps "until I see you next"

"Until then, daughter."

As Kay closes the door behind her, she can hear her father sighing heavily. Today is a bittersweet day, but he'll be alright. And while it's a day of goodbyes, it's also a day of greetings. Today is the day that the others are expected to arrive!
