Obligatory OOC thread. I doubt it’ll see much traffic, considering the discord we use, but alas, we are creatures of habit, if nothing else! So here it is!

I did a little cleaning up just as we approve our final two players.

As for posting standards, I keep things moving at a fairly brisk pace. I’ll post multiple times a day, if it comes to that. Everyone else can keep it to once a day, of course. (Weekends, I’m around, but I understand that not everyone is.) I like to give everyone their own little blurb so no one gets left out. I’ll also assume that any reasonable group action gets taken rather promptly. Character A says let’s go to the Store. Character B and C agrees. I’ll move things along assuming that Character D and E would approve.

If you disappear for a few days, you’ll simply be tagging along behind the others. And if we don’t hear from you for a good long while, well, mom and dad have forbidden you from hanging out with those trouble making kids!

Hey everyone, your friendly (?) neighborhood (??) newbie's here!
I'll be skimming the rulebook today at first chance and might have something at the ready by tomorrow.
As I flipped through the pages of the corebook, weirdo and rocker caught my eye, so maybe that's a start.
Might need some hand-holding in character creation though as I have no experience with the system. Hope I won't have to bother you much.

1988 US pop culture is quite different from, say, 1983, but I'm good with whatever, and also playing fast and loose with it just being "the 80s."

If we get as far as Flood, it can just be "the 90s."

Yeah, evoking the 80s will be the overall goal, rather than pinpointing a specific year. We can smudge things due to the existence of the Loop and all that entails for society too!

So, defining relationships is what most of us have yet to establish? Cause I have a question; I have a pride of standing up for someone and maybe what Ridge proposed. Do we need a direct connection with all or it could be indirect (a friend's friend etc)?
Probably have an npc relation as well.

@KCC, is the setup for the adventure we'll be playing one where we are thrown together or should we figure out how we are all connected in at least some way before we start?

The start of the adventure will be you all catching up after some test-taking before Christmas break! You’re a friend group, or at least all connected enough to at least talk to each other after school. Maybe sharing a school bus, or family connection maybe if the gap is pretty huge. The Nerd with the Jock cousin who looks out for him type of thing!

Schools out and you want to go hang out with the guys before mom gets on your case about cleaning up before the Christmas visitors arrive!

Question on our location. I see Boulder, Colorado listed. Very different than Boulder City, Nevada. Purposeful change? Snows a lot in Boulder, for example, and hardly ever in Boulder City...

Haha, oops. I was listening to the song Highwayman this morning and Boulder Colorado was in my head. Will change!

Another thing, the Flood canonically happens around Christmas 1994 and the Hoover Dam Disaster in early 1995, so if we're around 11 in '85 now, our characters would be too old by then to be characters.
Unless we move some of those dates around, which I'm not opposed to. Just something I thought to mention

Yea, Things from the Flood has a very limited time frame it can happen in according to the lore in the book. I think only between 1995 and 1998.
But as I said, I'd have been fine with saying "In this game, the Flood happens in '92" or something. I don't mean to be an "Uhm, actually"-type nerd 😄

Yeah, I've seen a couple of actual plays do what we're planning -- take kids from the Loop to the Flood, and in at least one case they just breeze past that the kids are now early 20s... and it didn't seem to affect how the game played at all.

All good! Just stood out to me because I live about twenty minutes east of Boulder. ;)

Somewhat related, but the TftL book actually has a description of winter in Boulder City, for all those of us who don't know what Christmas in the desert is like. Unless KCC minds, I'll just post it here.

Question regarding the private scenes with your characters.

Would you like to roleplay through some stuff, with me playing the role of XYZ?

Or would you prefer to simply narrate what happens?

Maybe some would prefer one style and others another?

That's a good question. I could go with either style.
Maybe for me somewhere in the middle, where it's mostly me narrating and playing both sides but with some input and responses coming from you. To work through those in like two or three posts from each of us

Certainly happy to do that! Initial scene set up especially would be great for you all to decide. Even in OOC. That would be the minimum I’d ask. But the more that you all want to do, I’m totally fine with that!

Happy with either approach, though I do enjoy having the GM play the supporting cast even in the solo / character development scenes. Whatever works!

I wouldn't mind simply narrating non-story bits. GM can intervene any plotty bits as needed.

You always roll a D6 dice pool, number of dice is equal to Attribute+Skill. For this, I'd say Mind+Investigate

Since mine is explicitly a beginners' game and don't want to make them feel self-conscious in their first or one of their first games, I was curious if anyone would mind if we made this game public and I gave her a link to check this one out.

Haha! And I posted too. I wasn’t expecting the posts actually, so I split you all up, figuring that some wanted to go home and others wanted to continue. However, I assumed that, in proper childlike fashion, some of you could have your arms twisted into going, especially if momentum went that way. That’s why I didn’t mention names of those going home! Just those I knew where continuing to the lake.

If that’s the case, and no one goes home, I’ll simply edit your names into the continuing party, and delete the part about some of you heading back home! Don’t feel pressure to follow along with my musings.

I’ll post up a few bullet points here at some stage soon to summarize our adventure so far. The pace has been quick, especially with going to the house, junkyard AND lodge all in one day. So there’s been a few walls of text for you guys to get through! Sorry about that! But… tomorrow is Christmas! So the pace should slow down now and open up to some nice roleplay!

So none of us got in Trouble for our problems or relationships?

In Andy's case he didn't have the opportunity for his problem to surface (my teacher hates me) and nothing happened in his relationships that got him into trouble unless you count being persuaded to go to the junkyard a relationship issue.

KCC is a plotter 😋 We didn't really do much in the way of personal scenes so that's why our troubles went mostly unaddressed. But it's also how we managed to get through the adventure in record pbp speed 😁

We certainly each RP'd the hell out of our own personal dramas, just not according-to-Hoyle capital-T Trouble.

Yeah, Em's trouble is being bullied. I figured (and answered, in the Discord) no, but now that I think about it there was the scene where her bike had been sabotaged at the start. Kind of lightweight, though.

If you need to squint on the XP questions, yes or no, yes or no, then just take a yes and get the point. It’s hard to answer these things in 100% yes or no fashion!

How does you feel knowing that something happened… or should have happened with Cuckoo and the missing animals this Christmas? Only this time… it doesn’t. No storm. No rumors.

Do you still investigate the places you checked first time around? They are empty! Do you scope out Cuckoo’s house? Someone else lives there.

Or do you try to move on and leave it all behind?

Seeing our current conversation, we'll definitely investigate and then probably be surprised to find nothing happens

Em will full on research what happened to Kim Johnson and Hernandez both.

Andy wants nothing more to do with it and wants to play soccer and ride his rad bike. But he will go along if his friends want to follow up but he'll be kicking and screaming.
