Beyond the Wall: Interest Check

Hi All, I wanted to see if there was any interest in Beyond the Wall? If you're not familiar with it, here's a link to the game's homepage: BTW Homepage. I'd be running pre-made modules from a different game (The Hero's Journey) that should mesh nicely with BTW's concept of young untested individuals rising to meet challenges of increasing difficulty on the long road to becoming true heroes.

One of the charms of the system is that it has a rather extensive (and fairly easy) mechanic for collaboratively generating character backgrounds, relationships, and the setting of their home village, which is where the first adventure will take place. We can do all this in Session 0, after which you should all have a really good idea of who your characters are, how they know and relate to one another, where they're from and the important people and places that make up the village. From there, of course, these unlikely heroes will be called upon to save their homes, friends and families from utter destruction - you know, the usual.

If this sounds kinda fun or cool, let me know. Thanks! :)

I would be interested as well, going to read up on it tonight.

I would love to play, but in 2022. Too many games now. I ran a BtW game not too long ago in fact.

Is this like Tales From The Loop?

This looks very interesting.

More like Chronicles Of Prydain or Wizard Of Earthsea from what I can tell.

I played a brief adventure of BTW and it was good fun. Recommend it (and KaeJae is awesome if you haven't learned that for yourself yet).

Mach, I'm not that familiar with Tales from the Loop, so I'm not sure. Its traditional fantasy, so the setting is obviously different, and the protagonists are young adults not teens (although in medieval-like world, teens are probably young adults). Mechanically, its a d20 roll under system using the usual attributes, so its easy to pick up. Hope that helps!

I'll need to trim somewhere to even think about adding another game, but I love Beyond the Wall, and was planning to run it if no one was interested in Symbaroum... :)

I have the new edition of Hero's Journey, too, but have never read that...

Lol, BtW, Symbaroum and HJ2e were my top 3 for next games to run or play. :)

About the Game - Here's the blurb from the intro to give you the author's take on what makes it unique:

Welcome to Beyond the Wall and Other Adventures. This is a simple set of rules similar to older versions of the world’s most popular fantasy roleplaying game. The game is designed to be easy to learn and fast to use at the table. There are many such games available. Beyond the Wall is different for two reasons:

1) Flavor - Beyond the Wall can model most kinds of fantasy stories, but is particularly well-suited for the brand of fantasy literature exemplified by Ursula K. LeGuin’s first three Earthsea novels and Lloyd Alexander’s Chronicles of Prydain. These are stories of low fantasy about young heroes finding their way in dangerous situations.

2) Out-of-the Box Play - While the core rules of Beyond the Wall are similar to those of the numerous other games based on the world’s most popular fantasy roleplaying game, it does offer something that the others do not: tools to play the game almost immediately and with little prep. Using special Character Playbooks and Scenario Packs, a group of players with a single gamemaster should be able to play the game with absolutely zero prep in about three to five hours, from making characters to tasting a glorious success or a bitter defeat.

If your still adding players, I'd like a good Fantasy. Never played the system, but lack of knowledge rarely slows me down.

Well, it sounds like there may be enough interest to give this a spin. Very exciting! I'm hoping to start the Session 0: Character and Village building stuff next week if we have confirmed numbers.

Those of you who are in, could you please post a 'Yea' or 'In' below. If we have a solid 3-4, I'll start setting it up and send out invites. :)
