Community announcements

I'm not sure about the name, but an area on the homepage - like the announcements - where a trusted and active community member (Qralloq?) can post updates and signposts.

It would be used for things like pointing to his videos for how to get started with GP, or other community-created content/threads.

Possibly one for unauthenticated users too (seen before signing in).

Hm... I can broadly see the idea, but I think we have to think about 1) who gets to post stuff, 2) at what point is that an official thing or not? Will it lead to resentment (people with rights or not)?

Those are good points. Perhaps make it clear that it's a community thing (like the games tavern), not an "official" thing. Maybe make the job sound mundane - less community mayor, more community rumour-monger? You have a games tavern - perhaps the thread is 'tavern gossip' or 'community rumours'. Perhaps ask the community to vote on someone and make it a time-limited thing (like, 6 months)?
