Basics of the Basics

Via Wikiapedia:

"Savage Worlds is a generic role-playing game written by Shane Lacy Hensley and published by Pinnacle Entertainment Group. The game emphasizes speed of play and reduced preparation over realism or detail. The game received the 2003 Origin Gamers' Choice Award for best role-playing game."

The stock setting is general for a reason and the most current version is SWADE.

That said for settings (aka more then the initial book which is enough to run the system in truth):

Cowboys fighting zombies? Deadlands Reloaded Setting.

You're a half-vampire just trying to get back to your loved one's after the great war to kill off mankind (still out if you're going to try and work towards becoming a human or full blown vampire)? Accursed Setting.

MIB or Warehouse 13? Agents of Oblivion

Allied forces fighting Werewolf Nazi soldiers in trench warfare (The tayior who makes the uniform fight though?) ? Weird Wars

Or one of their first settings I've never played Fantasy world where 'aliens' take over the world and block out the sun? Evernight.

That said what kind of game genre you want to run in would be the first thing to figure out if you're not the GM or Player coming with a pitch for a game. Imma say 'Who wants to play a sci-fi game with a talking cat?'

So the Basics: What you wanna play as a group is probably the first question for a game.

I would like to go for high fantasy or futuristic settings...I'm not much into western or modern day settings...but if that's the setting the GM wants It's ok...I'm just here to learn and to experience playing the system...

turns out other person also wants to learn to play not gm so Im the GM I guess unless W wants to take over. unless he objects leaning towards space cowboys wrangling asteroid and a talking cat...

haha, so is the talking cat an alien? or a familiar? or a cyborg?

I guess you're going to have to wait to see ICly. Everyone gets to make a human by the way.

I have a bit of time before I start so I guess this might be considered filler.

For the game Premise it's Sci-Fi for this go around. If a GM or the players haven't come up with a pitch as a group or the person pitching to run or be run figure out the Genre first, in this case it's Sci-Fi. To further define I'd say Space Cowboy to get everyone in the mindset, it's more gritty ships out in the outer rim not super clean ships, uniforms, and all the resources for clean fresh smelling recycled air.

The second would be what kind of game is it going to me for me as a GM or player, is it some players plan to just chuck dice and kill stuff? Roleplay heavy? What kind of stuff you want in the game, mystery, combat, chase scenes, social stuff, little bit of a mix.

Last I figure before you start knowing where you're headed this time around it'll just be a small adventure that should be at least interesting I hope for the players.

I'm normally interested in a more roleplay heavy campaign type game, but as we're here to learn, maybe one-shot or beginner adventure is the way to go?

Yep this is just going to be a short one, I'm just waiting another week since no one's got a character submitted besides mormegil. Friday worse case I'll be running a solo game for mormegil I guess.

haha, ok, I'll hopefully get it done today. My fault for waiting for the movie instead of readin' the book
