The Sad History of The Rising Blade

The Rising Blade’s original owner was the late Wookiee explorer Shaamagalook. He and his two sons traveled through the Outer Rim in search of adventure and to help others. The crew of The Rising Blade primarily focused on salvage and helping stranded spacers, with one notable rescue of Princess Morgia of Dyanos III. Unfortunately, these honorable Wookiees met with foul play two decades prior at the hands of Lisssk and Slasthk, two Trandoshan raiders who took the opportunity to shoot the Wookiee adventurers in the back while on Soccorro.

Lisssk and Slasthk believed that the goddess didn’t care about the methods of the hunt, but only the results. What better a kill than three Wookiees, and what better a trophy than their ship? The Trandoshan fellow hatchlings, brothers, though they were extremely dangerous, they weren’t exceptionally bright. Both were arrested and taken into custody by Imperial forces after a bank heist on Corellia.

The Rising Blade sat in an Imperial warehouse for eighteen years before being put up for auction. While viewing the listings, Doban Brant recognized the markings of the lost YT-2400, made an appointment to tour it with the auctioneer and confirmed who had once owned it. Flipping a panel open above the door frame in the cabin closest to the engine room, Doban Brant found a Ryyk Blade, one that Shaam had shown him while they had worked together some twenty five years before when Doban’s muscles and joints weren’t as stiff. Doban was moved by the revelation. He’d heard what happened to his old acquaintance, and while he was saddened at the time. The ship posed a revisitation of loss that was now in physical form and suddenly at his doorstep. What would that family have accomplished had the Trandoshans not found them? Would they be slaves like so many of their kind now? The Devaronian had purchased the ship out of sentimentality but knew he couldn’t keep it as his personal vessel. It would be too depressing.

Doban knew Shaam wouldn’t want his ship just sitting in a warehouse; he’d want the ship to continue on with a worthy crew. Since employing Roooargh, Brant has allowed him to work on the ship, drain all the decades old coolants and fluids, repairing dry rot on the drive cables, reviewing its systems and performing operations checks, and working with the nav computer. While the concept of being homesick was alien to the older Devaronian who like many of his people, suffered a bit from wanderlust, he hoped that the young Wookiee felt a little closer to home on the vessel and that it had good ghosts aboard it, if any, despite its dark past of a murdered crew.

Before setting off on this mission, Doban would let the young Wookiee know that Uncle Shaam had left him a present, one that could come in handy if things "got hairy" at a distance that made using a bowcaster impractical.
