These character points are for you all to do the following (or a combination of the following):
1) Spend them to improve skills. Some examples of using character points to raise attributes and skills are listed below.
1a. Anne's senatorial has a blaster skill of 3D+1. She wants to raise it to 3D+2, so she spends 3 character points to bring it to 3D+2. In the next session, she uses 3 more character points to raise it 4D.
3D to 3D+1 = 3 cp
3D+1 to 3D+2 = 3 cp
3D+2 to 4D = 3 cp
1b. John's smuggler has a space transports: YT-1300 specialization. He wants to raise it from 5D+2 to 6D. Half of 5D is 2.5 which rounds up to 3. It costs his character 3 cp to round up to 6D. After the next session, John is able to improve his character's skill fromm 6D to 6D+1 with 3 cp (specializations cost half as much as normal skills to improve).
1c. Jake's doctor character has a (A) Medicine at 2D. He wants to improve the skill to 2D+1 and must spent 4 character points to do so. (advanced skills cost double that of normal skills to improve).
2) Save them to use for in character skill rolls. Please see pages 83-84 in the Core Rules 2nd edition R&E for more details than the quick recap I'm posting below:
Max usages of character points to improve rolls:
2 to improve a skill or attribute roll
2 to increase damage on an attack (usually always an evil action)
5 to improve a specialization roll
5 to improve a defensive hand to hand and melee actions (parrying or getting out of the way with a dodge)
5 to resist damage on a Strength roll
Spending character points refers to one action and one action alone. If the action is continuous throughout a scene, the second the character does something else, the character point bonus ends.
