Random Scenario 1

Aug 13, 2021 5:00 am
You find yourselves at a bridge across a deep river. There is a vehicle stopped just before the other side. People stand around it and you can hear raised voices, but not specific words.

As of yet, no one seems to have noticed you.
Why are you there?
Are you carrying anything that could get you into trouble?
Do you want to deal with the situation up ahead or avoid it? Are they guards or army? Can you be sure?

What do you do?
OOC:
You can introduce your character when you first post, define as much as needed.
Feel free to add details to the scene, you can not break anything, we have no need for continuity here.

Rav Michaels grabs his flashlight and readies his pistol. Wanting to be sure the way can be cleared he quietly moves forward, keeping to the shadows.
Looking back he says "If we want to get you and your family past here, we'll need to move fast Mr. President. Get ready to move, and fast."
Looking to the rest of the group he asks "Everyone ready?"
OOC:
I hope this is an interesting scene to play through.

- Rav -

You seem to be Promethean (i.e. 'forward thinking'). Are you primarily clever or are you mainly just fast?
OOC:
Given the modern setting, let's say there three ways of addressing a problem in this game. Fast, Strong, and Clever.
How would you rate each? 'bad', 'meh' or 'excellent!'. Assign them -1, +0 and +2 as appropriate.

Fast: +0
Strong: -1
Clever: +2

George brings his binoculars to his face and looks over the forces ahead. If he can get a good look, he will try to read some lips and see what is going on. His pistol remains holstered.

Really? Someone named Rav Michaels and another named Michael? What is this Die Hard? How many agent Johnsons does one outfit need? :)

Fine he's George now.

OOC:
George/Michael, all you 'special agents' look alike anyway. :)

With the lip reading and the forward planning, it sounds like George is inclined towards being Clever? He will need to roll it to see how much he can glean from this distance.

How would you rate his Clever? If 'excellent' assign it a +2, if he is merely 'following training give him a +0, and if he is not that clever give him -1.
Then roll 2d6+Clever.
On a 7-9 you can get the gist of what is happening.
On a 10+ you will learn something extra useful
On a 6- you will all be out of time and need to get moving before you draw attention.

OOC:
Above is a pretty standard on-the-fly custom move. It is simple but has all the parts. It might only ever get used this once, so we don't need to put too much thought into it. We can refine if it becomes a staple.
I also like to have the players know, roughly, what to expect as outcomes from a move in a given situation, they should not be surprised after rolling.

This move might also tell us something about George, or about Lip reading in this world, especially on a fail.

He is clever George so +2 there.2d6+2

(6, 1) + 2 = 9

- George -

You can make out some words as their heads turn in your direction, and even from the occasional glimpse of a reflection in the windows of the stopped vehicle. Not whole sentences or anything, but you do see a clear rebuke as one of the older 'guards' turns and shouts at a younger: "No, don't be ... . Why would ... be in the trunk?...". Then they wave the vehicle through without further checking.
OOC:
Verrain: If you hit the Advanced button below the post you can Add a Basic roll, you can enter a description in the Reason field (useful in case what you are doing was not clear from the post) and add 2d6+2 to the Roll field.
When you Post, the site will then do the rolling and all the math (well some math; the above it can do, much more complex than that and it struggles:).
Many games will require that dice be rolled on site where everyone can see. I don't care, use whatever works for you.

Rolls

Fake Demo roll - (2d6+2)

(65) + 2 = 13

"Not sure what they are searching for, but they aren't checking really closely." George reports. "Not even checking the trunks of vehicles. Might be able to sneak them through if we could get our hands on a large car."
