I kind of have an itch to run a game again after stepping out from behind the screen for a while. There's a lot of stuff I'd like to play/run, but right now I'd like to give the OSR a go.

I own a few different OSR games, like White Box, Old School Essentials, and the Black Hack, for example. The group would choose the system.

I'd be looking for maybe 4-6 players who could post regularly.

Any takers?

I’m always up for some OSR action. Are we talking standard level 1 start, sandbox adventuring?

I have all three of the listed games, so I could jump into any of them but would rank them in preference: Black Hack, OSE, White Box.

Huge OSR fan here, though there are certainly some elements of the movement I enjoy more than others. The Black Hack and White Box and are standouts for me -- I'm generally a big fan of neo-OSR games, not the retroclones. I make an exception for White Box because it's so lovely and lean.

What kind of adventures, mood, campaign duration are you thinking of?

Old School Essentials is great, I'd love to join you! Also have you played Knave? Very lean, but actually gets the job done. I was surprised at how easy it is to run and play, and yet it has the depth you need if you want to run attribute based checks. Some folks need skill lists and classes so it's not for everyone.

In order of preference:
OSE
White Box
Black Hack

I'd possibly be interested depending on the setting and have the books.

I might be interested depending on the setting/scenario details.

Love that OSR is getting some love. I'm in no place to join up, but I'll note that I'm hoping to run a Cthulhu Hack game sometime down the road.

Good luck in this game! Wish I could come along for the ride.

CTHULHU HACK, WHAT WHAAAAT?!

Ahem. I'd be interested. (I love the various hacks, and that's one of the better and more polished ones.)

This game is really just an excuse for me to play one of these systems. I have a homebrew setting I'd probably set as my default, however, as I prefer to do things by committee, I'm happy to use pre-gen material. I have some stuff from Basic era D&D I could run, if there's a preference.

Here's the scenario I'd be starting the PCs in,

An upstart force has taken over the capital setting the entire region into turmoil. However, the fighting has been brutal, and the newly self-proclaimed leader is short of troops. An order is sent out to start forcing conscription. Refusal could lead to incarceration/torture, death, or threats against one's family loved ones. The PCs are among these conscripts. They've been dressed in the new forces' colours and equipment, and just to make sure they can't just run off, the PCs will have been scarred to match the rest of the soldiers. Once the PCs have been equipped, they're sent out as part of a small company to secure outlying farms to ensure resources are still flowing into the capital.

The players will take it from there.

The homebrew setting that I've been tinkering with away from GP is inspired by political science/social philosophy. I basically tried looking at different systems for organizing societies, and then began building up a world from there.

I'm in a similar situation to SavageBob, but just wanted to put out some support and appreciation for OSR style games. Best of luck everyone!

Sounds awesome, Phil_Ozzy_Fer. Officially throwing my hat in the ring if you'll have me. OSE is definitely my least favorite of the systems you mention, but I can roll with whatever.

I don't mind doing White Box, could I also suggest taking a look at Labyrinth Lord or perhaps Swords and Wizardry? I mean if you want to stick to d20 OSR. Open Quest and Bare Bones Fantasy are D100 OSR games I'd suggest, but I tend to like D100 OSR games over D20. Just suggestions, I'll play whatever you decide is easiest.

White Box is Swords and Wizardry, for the record, just a cut-down version of it. (You might be thinking White Hack, umbral, which is totally different.)

If we play LL, I'm out. =]

Didn't know White box was Swords and Wizardry, I kind of liked S&W.

"If we play LL, I'm out." LOL
Is it that bad?
I only played it once...that's funny.
Let's NOT play Labyrinth Lords!

I kinda like Battleaxes & Beasties who manages to keep descending AC without complex ThAC0 tables...

It's probably worth noting that I currently have two OSR games running on here, both of which is open to a new player. (And both are public, so lurkers are welcomed.)

There are still seats at the table if anyone would like to join up. It is so far an RP-focused game. Additionally, there haven't been any major events so anyone that joins up wouldn't be behind the others.

Note: my understanding is that the players settled on White Box for the rule set. Not that I am playing, I'm just nosy.
