DnD Beyond is great for creating characters. It's easy to use, and if you're part of a campaign you can use your DM's books too.
It's especially useful when creating high-level characters (e.g. Runekyndig's level 15 vignette).
The Gamers' Plane browser extension now makes using your DnD Beyond content easier. Previously, you'd have to copy/paste whole sections from your DnD Beyond sheet to Gamers' Plane, or just link to them and lose the benefits of using your character sheet in Gamers' Plane's integrated dice roller.
1. Copy
If you have the Gamers' Plane browser extension installed, then you will see a new option on your DnD Beyond character sheet.
Clicking that will take a formatted copy of some of the text.
2. Paste
On your Gamers' Plane character sheet there will be a new option on the top left of DnD 5e character sheets.
Clicking that will populate your Gamers' Plane character sheet.
Notes and limitations
* The use case is replacing the copy/paste from DnD Beyond to Gamers' Plane that people are following at the moment.
- Create the character in DnD Beyond and import to Gamers' Plane
- Play the character in Gamers' Plane (HP, inventory, adding extra abilities, notes etc).
- Level up the character in DnD Beyond and import them over the top of the Gamers' Plane character sheet
* Most things are added to Abilities/Feats (languages, armour proficiencies, abilities, etc)
* It won't delete spells or abilities or weapons
* It will update the description if it finds a spell/ability/weapon with the same name
* It expects that you'll be using your Gamers' Plane character sheet for playing the game. The following things on your Gamers' Plane sheet won't be changed if they already contain text (or are non-zero for numbers)
- AC
- Current HP
- Temp HP
- Inspiration
- Inventory
- Notes
* For some racial spells it might not work out the casting ability and use the default of STR. Let me know and I'll see about including the spell ability for future releases, in the meantime just change them manually.
* It doesn't populate the avatar
* The name/level of the class doesn't come across properly - especially for multiclassing. Sort that out manually.
* It doesn't handle expertise or bonuses to saves yet - mainly because Gamers' Plane doesn't.
* If you're DMing new 5e players, perhaps encourage them to use the DnD Beyond character creator as this will walk the player through the process in steps. Then bring the character sheet into Gamers' Plane, where the player can use their skills and weapons by just clicking a button.
