Icons for a sense of place

A quick win could be to use some icons for the areas of the site.

Dunno about you but if you dropped me on a random forum page, it takes me a while to read the breadcrumb. Icons might help (based on top-level source).

e.g. the list of forums



..when you're on a post the thread name could carry over the root icon.



...even some on the homepage could help distinguish between three near-identical lists.

It took me a long time to even see the difference, since I just always ignore the orange parts. Looks nice, though, once I see it. I'd be in favor of it but don't see it helping much

Did you not notice that I'd also sneaked the forum titles to the left?

But to be fair, I probably also wouldn't notice if you just did that on the site. I'm a very tunnel vision kind of person

Nope. I don't get it.

They're usually on the right and deep red.

So they are. And they then spill off the side of the page on a smaller screen.

They should move left. They will be more visible.

Very cool. Looks good to me.

Dissenter. Prefer deep red to burnt orange, and right-alignment to left. But no big thing with either. -Really- like the icons -- I agree that they could really help with at-a-glance navigation and kind of a sense 'place' on the site.
