Public forums and visibility

From Bowlofspinach:

Not that it would be a huge deal but with public games having become more public than they used to, I'm thinking it might be nice to have a note tag to hide something from viewers who aren't part of the game. Of course, that's already possible by just doing [ note=player1,player2,player3] but it would be neat and tidy to be able to just post [ note="players"] and automatically have everyone and only everyone who is part of the game be able to read this (ideally including players who join a game after that post was made).
Until a user named "Players" joins and the whole system explodes

I think the assumption is that the ACLs would work that way.

If they can be fixed to not only apply to people in the game that would be best. Adding another mechanism to deal with who can view a page is non-ideal, but better than nothing if the ACL system is too hard to fix.

Speaking of 'visibility'.

Is it right to be exposing the names and details pages of people's 'private' game on their profile?

I know there is not really a strong expectation of privacy (what with the system emailing everybody with the details when a private game is created), but there was a discussion about a game system with rude words in the name that they should set it to private so as to hide those words from everyone... now that is not (or less) possible.

Maybe only public games should be listed and private games can be mentioned as a "+x private games" line or something?

Neither the game title nor that people are playing the games are private though. If people thought that it would hide the game away then they were very, very mistaken. I can click any private game, see the details and get a list of players.

So, we could do this, but we'd be defining what GP means by private. I suppose we could have another status (secret?) if people were playing some very NSFW stuff.

Agreed. I don't have an expectation of privacy here (and therefore can not use it for my extra-mural games with their child protection requirements).

But now we are publicising the links, before there was no real way to just 'click on any private game' as we would have to find the link first.

I don't see an issue with this. The information was always public, it's just a bit easier to find now. If someone complains, we might have to think about it but I really don't see any way in which this could become a problem.
