At the moment the characters menu shows the character label.

I think it should show the character name.

This will also mean that the rollers will show the name rather than the label.

That would be neat

All for it. Especially since even custom sheets have a "name" textbox.

I think I agree, but do worry that the label is used to differentiate characters, and people might rely on it to know which is which.

Not sure this would be a problem in this context, we are unlikely to have multiple characters with the same name in a game at once, or, if we do, it is deliberate and deliberately confusing.

You people with many, many characters should test that this does not have any unforeseen consequences.

I had exactly one situation where I had two character sheets with the same name in one game, and that was because she was a shapeshifter with two common forms. But thanks to the new NPC system, I would just use that these days. And even without it, I don't think it would be a huge deal. A rare edge case in exchange for a smoother general experience.

I would be willing to make that sacrifice 😅

I’ve seen multiple places where the character name doesn’t match the label, and it’s always the name that’s correct. But a sample of one isn’t a sample.

One case is on that screenshot. Machiabelly’s Icewind changed his name to Toqusoq.

There will almost certainly be some people where goes the wrong way.

We could put it to a public vote.

Not counting your Tutorial game, of course. :) But that is a special case, with the individual-play style, Characters are identified by the owning player, so the new player should not be too confused by the duplicates.

That is a good idea. The menu have more functions now, and it should match the character name

True but again, that's such an edge case (How many edge cases can you have before it's no longer edge cases?) And there is always the name of the player as you said. And only the player's own sheet would show up under the post window.

And besides, it's not like using the sheet name prevents that problem entirely

And with the new link to the character sheet that appears when we select it in the 'post as', box the player is not dependant on the bottom-bar.

No, but we are losing (or diminishing) one mechanism that has 'traditionally' been used to differentiate characters. That seems OK since most of the functionality in the bottom-bar menu item is new, so people should not be too reliant upon it.
