I know I'm new, but I've had this game bouncing around for a couple of years. I'm currently building my character charts into something searchable (so I can be lazy later)

He's a fool. A weak product of a corrupted and dying bloodline. Hantei got his power from the gods, that's true, but how long ago?
-Hida Kisada

For those who don't know the setting:
Rokugan is a sprawling Empire based on mythic East Asia, mainly Japan. Players take the roles of young samurai or monks and navigate the conflicting requirements of bushido, loyalty, and ambition. Broadly, there are three types of samurai: bushi, the warriors; courtiers, politicians and diplomats; and shugenja, the priests and spell casters. The game balances politics, warfare, and investigation, and all are potentionally deadly.

The Setting for the Campaign:
The end of The Thousand Years of Peace, specifically 1121 (The Eighteenth Year of the Rule of Hantei XXXVIII), the Setsuban Festival at the Ki-Rin's Shrine in Phoenix lands. It has been announced the Otomo Yoroshiku (the Emperor's neice) is seeking a husband and will entertain suitors at the Festival and later at Shiro Gisu for Winter Court. The festival also features a tournement for shugenja. Players would not likely be in the running to marry the imperial bride, but could arrive as retainers of suitors, yojimbo to the shugenja participating, or simply by being assigned to the local Winter Court.

Basically, i want to guage interest and answer questions.

After Jim McClure talked up L5R so much, I don't think I have a choice but to try L5R, which I'll be doing at GenCon. Don't know if I can join a game of it on here right now, but otherwise, I am interested. L5R char sheets are currently third on my todo list.

Welcome Ujimona!

I would like to play but:
Would I need to have an bit of knowledge about the setting in depth besides the basics and mechanics?
Would you need Keleth to finish the character sheet? It would currently probably fall under Custom until it's done.
Also what edition (Is there more than one currently?) and source books should we get to make a character with.

The first question is the sticking point of L5R, there's a lot of backstory and politics that your character would be assumed to know. i'm not interested in penalizing players who haven't read everything there is to read, and I'd give basic current politics information in set up threads. Once the game gets rolling, then the plans are for current politics to take over.
i have a Google Drive sheet that I'm reworking, but yes, it would be custom.
There are currently 4 full editions, and it would be running in 4th edition. The only book required would be the Core book.

I'm in. I figure once you have enough interest and a game up you'll send us an invite or a link so we can request to join. I figure for character creation you'll let us know which clans and what not. Unless we're all going to be the same clan, possibly family.

I played a Rokugan campaign for a couple of years (using D&D 3.0 Oriental Adventures), run by a long time L5R player. It ended for my character in seppuku, which was awesome.

Really great setting that our troupe will likely revisit.

L5R is a fantastic setting and 4th edition has some fantastic rules. I would love to play. Crane are my clan of choice.

I used to run a 4th edition L5R campaign (I have several books and the Second City boxed set). The clan and path closest to my heart is Pheonix Henshin monks, but the other side of me in a Spider (probably not fitting for your campaign). All that is to say, I'd love to be in :)

I count at least four... ok, guess I have to put more work into this.

I'll get a new game up and do invites, and start posting background information over the next day or two.

Huh...I haven't played L5R in forever, but now I want to, purely because of what forum number it is...

Hilarious anecdote: I got a credit card with 666 as the Security Code on the back. I used it one time, at the grocery store and had had it for less than a week and the information was stolen from me and used to buy stuff online. I had used it ONCE, at the store, and not at all online. The rest of the time it had spent in my wallet. So yeah, cursed card, but it was funny to me, even at the time.

Still quite willing to take another one or two players (irvanovich if you're serious I'll invite you)

Eh, why not. Let's do this. Shoot me an invite.

It might be a little while before I can get started on creation today. I don't have access to much of anything beyond SRD's while I'm at work XD
