Chapter 5 - Food for Thought

Jan 3, 2022 1:36 pm
You've spent a couple days relaxing on Iso-1, the repurposed Bulk freighter that serves as Iso-Tech's deep space base and the rendezvous point for your recent run from Raxus Prime.

All of the repairs to your ship have been completed and the four of you are lounging in the ship's bar when Norta approaches. Norta, the Rodian manager from Raxus Prime and still head man on the Blockade Bandit, the Corellian corvette that you helped escape from Raxus, stops at your table and smiles. Well, at least Ken recognizes a Rodian smile.

"Hello all, glad to see you're still here. I was wondering if you were planning on staying until all of your credits were spent, he chuckles, or if your interested in getting back out and earning a few more?" He pauses for a second before continuing. "We were getting regular food runs back on Raxus Prime and we need someone to let them know we've moved. Should just be a quick trip down the Perlemain route to meet a guy, deliver an encrypted chip with our message and bang, your free to go or to come back here if your interested in what we might have for you."

Despite the fact that the Iso-1 is perfectly adequately illuminated, Ken insists on wearing his newly acquired scanner goggles at all times. He looks faintly comical, his bulbous Rodian eyes perpetually covered by the blue lenses. Following their recent exploits he has been particularly full of himself, strutting around the freighter telling ever taller tales about his prowess. Frankly, most of the regulars of the bars and cantinas of Iso-1 are getting fed up with him and Ken is starting to realise he needs to get some new stories.

Ken returns the creepy Rodian smile and replies to Norta in Rodese, 'Kuteela naga wamma andoba moulee-rah.' Then adds in Basic, 'Itching to do something, you can't ever have too many credits.'

Foess has stayed low during their stay at Iso-1, but had joined the others at the bar, admittedly getting rather bored hanging around doing nothing at all.
Oh yeah, definetly! I have to get out of this place! He looks at Ken with a grin and rolls his eyes. Credits are most welcome indeed. And creditable stories might come in handy as well, eh Ken?

'I am excited to see more of the galaxy. When do we start?!'
Jan 4, 2022 8:14 pm
"Good, good!" , Norta holds out a code cylinder. "Please take this to Uyterian Grain, Inc. at the main starport on Uyter. Ask for A'kog, he's our guy there. He'll know how to reroute the supplies to us. I didn't have time to set this up with him, so here's a thousand credits. Once you deliver, you're free to check out what Uyter has to offer or you can pop back here. We should have some more regular runs set up by then.
Jan 5, 2022 6:38 pm
When do we leave? Pergano looks at the others excited to get back into the smaller ship and away from the huge frigate
Jan 6, 2022 12:36 pm
Norta nods at everyone's enthusiasm. "To be honest, I wish you were gone now." He chuckles, "Nothing personal, but if we miss these guys they could end up in trouble busting into Raxus Prime with no where to land and unaware of how stirred up we left the place."
Jan 6, 2022 10:16 pm
'D'emperiolo got what was coming to them,' says Ken, nudging Foess. 'But they won't be too pleased if any of your boys go back there.'

He thumps his fist against his new armoured clothing, 'Boska. Let's go.'

Heading back to your ship, you head out toward Uyter. It's one relatively simple jump back to the Perlemian Trade route at Lianna, nice place. Next is a run down the Perlemian to the Lantillies sector and Utyer. The grey/green fields of Uyterian barley stretch to the horizon as you swoop towards the capital spaceport.

Once landed, the mid summer warmth washes over you as you come down the ship's ramp. The afternoon sun shines brightly on the bustling starport as you make your way out to the city.

Enjoying being out in the fresh air again, warm sun on his skin, Ken is nevertheless scanning the crowd (with his new goggles), looking for any sign of trouble. He's aware they've stolen their ship from a bunch of organised criminals and he doesn't think that's something they're going to forget in a hurry.
OOC:
I'll roll a Perception for that. Usual caveats apply regarding difficulty. I know the goggles don't add any benefit in the daylight but Ken insists on wearing them anyway!

AD-hoc's photoreceptors automatically adjust to the planets summer sun and he looks around the city. "Which way to A'kog's place of business?"
Jan 10, 2022 9:55 pm
Pergano sits in the pilot chair after landing for a bit before leaving the ship. He always misses the coldness of the ship and sometimes the fresh air just isn't for him.

Not sure but lets find them and get our of here. This seems like it should be a simple enough payday. Maybe there will be some kind of information center in the spaceport.
Jan 11, 2022 8:55 am
Foess is tempted to stay at the ship, but the warm weather is too enticing to pass.

Oh, I'm sure that someone will know where to find A'kog. It's more a question whether we want to let others know about our interest?
Jan 11, 2022 12:51 pm
Querying the local net is quick enough, as Uyterian Grain, Inc. is one of the major exporters. It's just a couple blocks down the bustling street to their main office. An office that's is surprisingly refreshing after only a short time under the Uyterian sun. You're also slightly startled at the sudden quiet as the doors close behind you, shutting out the din of the busy streets.

The front room of the grain office is simple enough, about 15 meters by 30 meters. With four desks, to on each side and a couple doors leaving out the back wall. The four desks are occupied with workers, diligently tapping out orders and invoices. The nearest human looks up at you and smiles.

"How can we help you today fine Sirs?"
Jan 11, 2022 8:42 pm
Not the smoothest talker in their group, but probably the most direct, AD-hoc answers; "We have an urgent message to deliver to A'kog. So if you can notify them that we are here, you will have been most useful."
Jan 12, 2022 9:16 pm
Ken keeps his eyes on the rest of the clientele, to see if they're listening in or otherwise overly interested.
Jan 13, 2022 12:43 pm
The clerk that spoke gives AD-hoc a nod, "Of course, One moment."

Lifting a wired intercom handset, he speaks softly for a few seconds. Placing the handset back in it's cradle, he motions towards the back of the room. "Please proceed to the door on the left. A'kog will see you now."

Passing through the door at the back of the room, you enter a spacious, if spartanly decorated office. The desk, no larger than it needs to be, seems small in the space. Half a dozen chairs spread out in a semi-circle in front of the desk. What art does hang on the walls are pastoral scenes, one a sweeping piece of rolling grain fields and the other a small perma-crete cottage and several out of focus people working a small field.

The male Twi'lek behind the desk stands as you enter. "Welcome gentlebeings, he smiles as he sweeps his gaze across your group. "You don't look like the typical bulk grain purchasers, perhaps here to commission a special strain for some craft Ale project?

He chuckles a little at his jest as he pauses for your response.
Jan 13, 2022 4:57 pm
We were sent by Reom. We are here to speak about his new shipping address Pergano mentions to the Twi'lek. Skipping to the point.
Jan 16, 2022 10:18 pm
Performing the Rodian equivalent of rolling his eyes (something involving half-closing his nictitating membranes), Ken interrupts Pergano, stepping forward and placing his hands on the desk in front of him. 'What we mean to say is that a mutual friend has requested we deliver a message, that's all. And if you have any work that you might need a crew with...special skills for, then perhaps we can be of assistance.' He hands over the code cylinder with Norta's message.

Ken hopes the Twi'lek doesn't think they're not taking operational security seriously.

A'kog takes the code cylinder from Ken with a smile. "Craft Ale project it is, let me take a look at your requirements. "

Placing the code cylinder in his desk comp, he let's the information decrypt and display on his screen. After a moment, he begins typing additional information. Retrieving the code cylinder he places it on the desk towards Ken.

"It seems we're always a moment away from a quiet life. Alas, the ship that handles these special requests, The Vaz Zito left a few hours ago. To fulfill this request, you'll need to catch up with them at Columex. They'll be there trading some of our standard grain for some more exotic grains and flavor enhancers before continuing on."

He pulls a credit chit from his desk and places it next to the code cylinder, "Assuming, of course, you are currently available."
