Chapter 2: We've got our work cut out for us...

Jun 16, 2016 1:36 pm
After an uneasy rest, a few conjurative healing spells, and some re-equipping...the party leaves the dungeon with slightly more information than they had at the outset of this adventure. Upon returning to the burnt remains of the village, they find merely a single squad waiting with a courier.

"Greetings brave warriors. His Royal Majesty King Roland the Fourth requests an audience immediately. If you do not have mounts, they will be provided. Come along, quickly."
Jun 16, 2016 2:11 pm
Garn gladly accepts the horse and follows the soldier to the king.
Jun 16, 2016 7:34 pm
Maia is reluctant as she watches Garn take the horse's reins.

"There are those of us beholden to our Guilds. Will we be able to report back prior to this audience?"
Jun 16, 2016 9:59 pm
Hegy, still not quite used to wearing a corset, has a bit of an awkward time climbing aboard her horse, but once mounted, is ready to go.
Jun 17, 2016 1:36 pm
The courier looks at Maia with a sneer of disdain. "His Majesty is much more important than any business you could possibly have with your guild, girl. We are, after all, in a state of war."

The trip back to the capital is fairly uneventful, with the courier being very aloof and haughty, and none too informative. He makes it very clear that any business you might have in town is not significant, and that the six of you aren't terribly important, except for the fact that the king wishes to see you.

When you arrive at the gates, you are waved right in with the courier, who is immediately recognized by the Watch foreman. He escorts you all to the castle, where the guards ask you to leave your weapons with them, and then take you to a rather large, ornate study.

You are free to RP for a moment, to talk about how big of a douche the courier was.

Garn glares at the courier and crosses his huge arms over his chest, making sure to display his massive muscles. After the courier leaves, he turns to the others, " I've met cold-hearted assassins and bloodthirsty warlords more friendly than that one!"

Toshi has never had any love for horses. Not surprisingly, he's never been any good at riding. He holds on for dear life, hugging the animal's neck instead of using the reins, as he is jostled all the way to the capital. This is a place none of the catfolk have ever dreamed to set foot in. Toshi is convinced he is the reason the courier treats the group with such rudeness.

At the gate he hands over all of his weapons, including his new kamas, with which he spent most of the previous night attuning to himself while meditating. He takes comfort in the fact that he can never be disarmed of the claws he was born with.

Seeing Toshi's obvious stress, but not 100% sure where it stems from, Garn will offer a smile and a friendly pat on the shoulder, trusting that his companion will come to him if he needs anything more than a silent support.

Maia is fidgety as the horses take everyone toward the castle. She unsummoned Istariel a while back, allowing him rest on a more relaxing plane of existence.

She eyes shadows and rushes over much, hoping a short jaunt for an audience with the king will be overlooked by her superiors.

Once again Maia finds herself silently empathizing with Toshi's discomfort. This time, however, his seems far more surface level than before. Unlike her own.

Hegy hops down from her mount and follows the other to the castle. She reluctantly hands her weapons over to the guard, although she briefly entertains the idea of keeping her hidden dagger stowed away, she thinks better of that plan and slowly reaches into her boot to retrieve it. "Family heirloom" she says to the guard, even though she is almost positive that he couldn't care less.

"All the personality of an old witch's broom" she responds to Garn.

If everyone could give me a Perception check, I'd be much obliged.

Toshi's eyes roam the study. He has been in such rooms before, but always with the intent of stealing something or assassinating someone.

I feel like I should be watching out for something... Hegy thinks, for no particular reason.

I glance around briefly, making mental note of things of value as well as any potential traps and/or means of egress. By now, it's a habit.

Dahlia has been fairly quiet this entire trip, taking time to think upon what she has learned from Franae, and how it will effect her future actions. She couldn't care less about the rude little imp of a courier, not even taking the time to respond to him.

She does reluctantly hand over her weapons, but not here shield. If they want that they can ask for it.

Maia twitches nervously. This waiting is doing nothing for her composure. Seeking a distraction, she turns to Hegy.

"How do witches' brooms work? I've always been curious about the incantations involved in their construction..."
Jun 28, 2016 11:29 pm
"They don't really do anything" Hegy responds in a whisper. "Witches can fly with or without them. It's really more of a symbolism thing; using an instrument that is associated with women's work to terrorize men. Mostly used by the evil coven's these days, although our coven will occasionally use shovels, just to mock the whole idea."

Hegy shrugs her shoulders and continues scanning the area.

I will attempt to move things on later this evening. We're taking the kids to the local zoo up here, so I'm not gonna be near my computer very much until later, and even then I have to escape the toddler long enough to get it done ;) :P
