Tiny Wastelands (TinyD6)
"This game is explicitly friendly to LGBT and any other minorities or marginalized groups."
THE PITCH:
Adventure Summary:
Life was good, the future bright and it all ended today on December 22, 2098. The entire planet shakes, all are engulfed by a disturbance caused by lines of energy erupting out of the ground and shooting three miles (4. 8 km) into the sky. An energy stream that crisscrosses the globe, with isolated networks clustered at places long held to have magical, spiritual or supernatural significance. However, before anybody can even recognize the event, the planet spasms, human civilization collapses, and the world is reshaping into something new and alien. There are tales of strange creatures roaming about and unspeakable horrors that nightmares are made of. The apocalypse is here.
There are rumors of a safe haven for survivors, a lone military base in Lafayette Indiana a last holdout of humanity. You are part of a group of survivors making your way to there. Do you have what it takes to traverse an apocalyptic hellscape and make it to the new cradle of humanity?
RPG RULE SYSTEM: Tiny Wastelands (TinyD6)
GAME SETTING: RIFTS Chaos Earth
GAME PLATFORM: Play By Post
CHARACTER CREATION & RESTRICTIONS:
PLAYER CHARACTER (PC)
Adventuring: PCs should be created with reasons to go on the adventure and thus play the game.
Cooperative Group Play Only: PCs should be created with the party in mind, should have a reason to cooperate and trust each other.
Anti-Heroes: are permitted given the criteria above is met. The anti-hero is still a hero and tends to have non traditional heroic morals and nobility. Anti-Heroes tend to be darker and more controversial. NO EVIL PCs.
Know How Your Character Works: Become the expert on how your character works, spells, abilities and the rules associated with them. Please prepare for this in advance. It keeps things moving along.
Multiple Characters, Altering Characters, Etc...: The following also assumes the PC meets character creation criteria for the current game or is altered to meet it. You are welcome to create a new character and integrate them into an ongoing game. The newly created PC will be of the same level of your other PC but only has starting gold and equipment. You can switch between characters at different times as long as one of the PCs did not stop in the middle of combat or some other dramatic situation. You may use a PC from an older game. You may change things and respec your PCs. You do not have to ask me permission to do any of this.
Character Creation Sourcebook
Rule Book: Tiny Wastelands TinyD6
Creating your Survivor is a quick process. You don’t necessarily need to follow this specific order, but it serves as common flow for the process (there are more details after the checklist).
• Select an Archetype (No Mutant)
• Select 3 Traits (No Psionics or Mutation Traits)
• Select Weapon Proficiency and Mastery
• Assign Gear and Credits
• Assign Drive
Why no Mutants? Psionics Traits?Mutation Traits? They do not fit in this style of game I am running.
GAME DURATION:
PBP Oneshot/Short Game: This style of game is episodic, quick, short-term commitment. In this type of game, the GM establishes Player goal(s) and the Players choose how to accomplish the goal. The PC goal for this game is to make it to the lone military base in Lafayette Indiana the last holdout of humanity.
POST FREQUENCY: 5 per week. PBP Pacing: I have no issues with players posting more frequently than the minimum amount of posts per week. I will usually give 24 hours to respond to a post. If a player chooses not to respond the game continues to move along without them and the player then continues where the game is currently at. This is done to keep the game moving along.
SPECIALIZED SOFTWARE: none
RESOURCES: Tiny Wastelands pdf or book
PLAYER EXPERIENCE: Any
HOW TO APPLY: Post that you want to join the game. The first six that post will fill the six open spots.
ADULT CONTENT: None, No Ickyness! Generally PG-13 Rating.
Controversial Themes: the following could become present within this game: moral dilemmas, religion, politics, racism, slavery.
REQUIREMENTS: See Below
ROLE PLAYING GAME (RPG) SOCIAL CONTRACT
The RPG Social Contract provides expectations for the GM, Players and the game. The intent is to provide a comfortable environment for everyone to enjoy our shared pastime of playing RPGs. The RPG Social Contract also provides information on how the game is run and is not negotiable. The information is here to help you make an informed decision on whether the games I run would be a good fit for you.
FAILURE TO ABIDE BY THE RPG SOCIAL CONTRACT WILL RESULT IN YOU LEAVING
PROBLEMATIC BEHAVIOR (((zero tolerance!)))
**Communication among all should be polite and one of mutual respect. **
Verbal Aggression: can be described as demeaning or derogatory jokes and comments, threats of violence, bullying towards a PC, Player, GM.
Argumentative: persistent arguing and/or frequently provoking arguments.
Nitpicking: frequently looking for small or unimportant errors or faults, especially in order to criticize unnecessarily.
Disruptive Behavior: This is behavior that puts your enjoyment of the game at expense of the group.
Sexual Content: is absolutely prohibited. This not only includes obvious direct comments but more subtle acts and comments that sexualize the player or their PC.
THE GAME
Game Style: Narrative focused with Exploration & Social Interactions far more dominant. Combat is not emphasized in my games. Combat can be deadly and in most cases may be avoided by an alternative approach to resolve the encounter. In most cases it will be the Player’s choice to use violence.
Theater of the Mind: I do not use maps in PBP. PBP is slow and maps slow the game down further.
Distance: is measured by Zones: Close (melee), Near (reach weapons) and Far (ranged). Anything beyond Far is out if range in Combat. A standard move is from one zone to another zone.
Rolling Dice: only when the outcome is uncertain and there is a meaningful consequence for success or failure.
NPCs: are background characters that will only provide minor support to PCs.
Environmental Based Modifiers for NPCs: No environmental based disadvantage or advantage modifiers granted by the GM to NPCs. The PCs will have to interact with the NPCs and/or environment to impose a penalty or bonus on NPCs.
RULE DISPUTES
Rules As Written (RAW) in core rule books and majority consensus through internet search or Reddit posts for rules not clearly stated.
Spot Rulings - If a rules search is taking too long, I will make an on-the-spot ruling and the rule will be reviewed afterwards. (I will usually try to rule in favor of the player, unless it looks like it will seriously derail the game).
*On very rare occasions if a rule conflicts with the spirit of the game, then the rule is ignored.
PLAYERS
New Players Joining: New PCs will be integrated into the party seamlessly.
Quitting The Game
When someone either can’t play anymore, or just isn’t interested you may let me know if you like but it is not necessary. If you left on good terms, you are welcome back, no worries. The PC is gone and all spell effects etc… end immediately.
GAME MASTER (GM)
Conflict Designer Instead of Storyteller: I focus more on conflict design than as a storyteller. This helps to remove a GM preconceived notions on how a story should go. The players drive the story through the different ways the conflicts are resolved.
Bad Calls: This will be even less likely in PBP but could still happen from time to time. This is not personal. I don't like it; you won't like it and I'll continue to strive to do better next time.
In PBP this will likely happen due a post that may not seem clear. Other times the GM or Player posting ahead of one another too quickly. In most cases we will just clarify what should have happened, fix it and we move on.
