Recruiting: Kids on Brooms

Looking for players to begin a Kids on Brooms game. It is Kids on Bikes, with magic!

The setting
Think magic school. Very Harry Potter like. Maybe Little Witch Academy. Maybe Fire Emblem Three Houses.
You will be playing kids, first-year students in a magic school, in very sandbox like environment. The Kids on... series is based on player input. Before we start playing, we will be worldbuilding together. By a series of questions, we will detemine what the school will be like.
In the end, it will be a game that should be like a Harry Potter book. With light-hearted, weirdness and magical pranks, but a deep, dark mystery as well.

If you already have an idea of a sort if character-idea you would like to play, feel free to share! In general it is best to finalize characters after the world has been finalized. You can tweak your character a bit to fit the world.

About you
You don't need to know the rules in advance. They are quite simple. If you already know Kids on Bikes, then you know 90% of the rules already. I like to keep the flow of the game running. I am aiming for 1 post/day from all players. Of course, real life comes first, but keeping up a regular pace keeps PBP-games alive. Be creative an make posts that challenge you and other to respond creatively.

About me
I am quite experienced in GM-ing Kids on... games and in PBP. However, I am new to Gamersplane.
I am from the CET timezone. I will post a post to keep the story flowing every evening. In between I might or might not occassionally make a quick post. That will generally be asking for a roll or something.

Code of conduct
The game welcomes people from all possible groups, identities and minorities.
For the online safety of everyone, whoever, the game is open only to people of 18+.

In game bigotry could be possible between magic and non-magic folk, or certain fantasy races only ("Centaurs stink like horse"...)

The game is called "Kids on brooms". As such, no adult scenes! Romance on the level of middle-school-movies is fine.

Also, this is a game where creative posts matter. This is not English-class, where perfect spelling and grammar matters. English is, for example, not my native language.

If you want a certain topic to be NOT in the game, I will keep a seperate thread where those can be shared.

I am totally new to all of this (both PbP and Kids on ...), but the idea of a Hogwarts TTRPG speaks to me.
I've just watched some videos on the core rules of Kids on ..., I guess I have understood the gist of it.

As for my character, I have the beginning of a backstory : the son (or daughter, I don't know yet) of undertakers, living next to a small village's cemetery. I'll create a sheet for you to see!

It is not Hogwarts as such though. I mean, the game system is very very very very inspired on Harry Potter's wizarding world, but obviously for copyright reasons it is not that. We will be creating a school in the start of the game.

Of course, and I also hope that it won't totally be like a Harry Potter's book. I look forward to create the school!

This sounds like fun! I have not played any of the Kids On... games, but I do enjoy learning new systems. I also like the magical school genre, and I'm a huge fan of collaborative world-building.

For a character, I'm thinking of a smart but timid introvert - a Neville Longbottom type (but not so focused on herbology). He works hard at school and learning magic, but worries that others will make fun of him for being a good student - so he downplays that part of himself. He doesn't make friends easily, because he is so shy, but he's a loyal friend to those that push past his shyness and get to know him.

Is this me, if I had gone to a wizarding school when I was young? No, no, no. Well... a bit. ;)

Hey there everyone!

I'm relatively new to Gamersplane but have been doing play-by-post for quite awhile not. I've played a little bit of a very heavily homebrewed Kids on Broom game and have the PDF for the game myself. I was introduced to it by Dimension 20's hilarious "Magical Misfits" game.

It would be a lot of fun to get in on the world-building, since that part was kind of already done for us before we began play. If I was selected to play, I adore playing Legacy type of characters; either having a history of greatness that I have to rise and meet (or defy) or being as wonderfully edgy as I can be without being a detriment to the whole party.

I think the biggest appeal, now that I have had a chance to look over the rules, is tied between the collaboration of creating a world together and the shenanigans that occur when that world inevitably meets the force of chaos that is the player characters. There is a lot of room to have dark, serious, and strange mysteries tied up with the usual school dramas and both of them feel just as important to the characters. I'm looking to play a character from a known legacy, either a good one or a bad one. And if I had magical powers when I was thirteen years old, I'd do whatever I can to make life easier for myself, my friends, and my family. Not violating human rights or anything but sneaking off with the test answers or using magic to make the impossible possible? Absolutely.

Oh hey, Kids on Brooms! I was actually specifically looking for a game of this to try out the system sometime. I dunno if there's any kinda room left but I'll throw my hat in the ring, because the system itself seems really interesting to me. As for what I would play, I'm not 100% sure, I toyed with a few ideas when I was listening to some folks talk about the system but never really finished fleshing them out.

As for who I would have been if I learned magic at 13... Maaaaaan, my gravitation as someone who always feels like an outsider in every group would be to embrace that, the heroes I always looked up to were the ones who are frightening or seem monstrous, but genuinely use what they have to help people. Your Swamp Things and your Spawn-types (well, under the right writers) and the like, so I would've probably learned just-shy-of-dark magic to facilitate that sort of thing.

Would I actually play that? I dunno, does that even fit within the archetypes expected by the setting?

Also my suggestion for the name for the full collection is "Kids on Blanks" XD

There seem to be a number of people responding along the lines of "Oh, hey! I've been wanting to play Kids on Brooms." If you end up with more people wanting to join than you have room for, I'll gladly withdraw my request to make room for those who have been specifically looking for a Kids on Brooms game.

Sounds interesting. I would Gladly join if there is a place left. Although it seems I found this thread late in terms of recruitment 😅

For sure to experience our own kind of Hogwarts is very cool, but I like the idea of making it somewhat different.
As for the character, I would prefer to know more about the settings (What will be collectively built). But I like the idea of someone who tries to be 'innovative', you know the one who adds a road eye to a potion 'just to see what it will do'
