tweak/notes

I think it would be helpful if notes had a direct way to respond to them. Maybe they could have a little link (like the charsheet tag has) and if you click it, it will add a note to the quick reply text field that has the same addressees as the note you clicked (in addition to the person who posted that note), similar to how quote just adds to your text field.

Once again, I have no idea how complicated that would be but if it's not too hard, I think it would be useful.

A great idea and trivial to implement - the best sort.

Whilst we're on notes - another pair of suggestions.
At the moment notes NEED a list of recipients.

I've had notes in games where players have tried to send me a private note, but got the BBCode wrong and left the "address" empty.

This means everyone can read the note as it doesn't render as a note.

Note

This is my character's secret...
^^^ That's not in a code tag - that's just how empty notes render.

I think an empty address list should be valid.
Also, forum admins can't read notes. It's probably not a massive deal, but it means our mods can't mod notes in some public forums.

It would make the "Speak to a moderator privately" a little easier if they could though, as we wouldn't need that snippet.

Would empty notes just be visible to the author then? I would approve of that (and of misspelled names just still keeping the note working, just not visible to the intended addressee.

As for forum admin note visibility: I think it would be better, but that's probably an issue that Keleth needs to decide, not us

How would those empty list Notes render?

Would they only show to the user that posted them? That makes sense, at least that way they don't accidentally reveal the contents. This also makes it easy for people to send notes to themself.

Moderators should have a way to see notes, but maybe they should not be automatically shown to them? Maybe they should act like --distinctly formatted-- spoilers? That way the moderators can still participate in games where notes are used and not get spoiled.

Similarly: As a GM I would like to be able to not see notes (I can always edit a post to see them if I really want), that way the players have the option to plan without the GM knowing (maybe for card/action selection in Burning Wheel or Mouseguard?). Rendering them as spoilers would help avoid accidental reading.

Mod rights already don't extend to games, so that would cover this issue as well, I believe

If people do this on accident, maybe it should have some reminder in there (that doesn't get annoying to people who do it on purpose. Maybe instead of "Note", it could say "Only you can read this" or something

If we have unaddressed notes viable as notes, I would not like to have any sort of popup nag about them, but displaying something clear like the 'only you can read..' or 'note to self' would be good in case they (presumably) meant to send it to some people.
