Tried to roll an Insight check on my last post.

It didn't work for me.

I'll try again here.

Hmm...

Maybe I'm missing something.

Basic dice, 1d20+3 is the input, "Insight" for name, and still nothing. :-/

A small request: Could everyone add their PC's to the game library? I kept having to go back to the character creation thread to check what classes etc. everyone was. As I understand it, if the character is in the character library the other players can access the sheet through clicking on the character portrait.

Thanks :)
Jun 25, 2016 6:10 pm
I set up a new thread with brief details
Jun 25, 2016 6:13 pm
Thanks :)
Jun 25, 2016 6:25 pm
I added NPCs that have been named (and revealed the Sgt.s name). I'll try and keep the top post in that thread updated.
Jun 26, 2016 12:48 am
What's the game library?
Jun 26, 2016 1:00 am
If you click Characters above, then about half way down you should see "Character Library". If you click that, then you can see characters that other players have made public.

You make a character public by clicking the gray book icon (gear/pencil/book/X) in the list of your characters. Red book icons indicate public characters, gray are private, IIRC.

A question regarding grapple: I noticed that other PCs have been attempting to break grapple, then taking an action such as attacking or casting a spell. Normally a character must use its action to break a grapple (SRD pg. 95, Escaping a Grapple), so you should only be able to take a bonus action after breaking free.

It seems like the DM is fine with everyone acting after breaking grapple. I am cool with playing it either way, but just wanted to confirm for next time I am grappled. Thanks!

My interpretation is the same, argyle_ninja. If your action is to break a grapple, then that'd use your action. But the initial grapple check is simply an opposed roll, not an Action. If I may have gotten confused between the two in one or more instances, I'll let it pass rather than retcon it.
Jun 27, 2016 5:37 pm
Sounds good. Thanks again!
Jun 30, 2016 5:09 am
Not sure what happened to CNNWAS and Skydut. I'll NPC them till they pop back up. Waiting in PBP is death to a game.
Jun 30, 2016 5:53 am
Sorry. Work cut deep into life today. I usually post during lunch, but that wasn't possible today. Yes, at any time my turn is holding up the game, do what seems best for the group.
Jul 1, 2016 2:44 pm
Only Monks are so skilled as to do weapon-like damage with their unarmed strikes. Otherwise an unarmed strike does just 1 point of bludgeoning damage: PHB p.149.

Just thought that might be worth pointing out, although I definitely understand that there's a lot more going on in the prison than meets the eye...
Jul 1, 2016 4:59 pm
OOC:
Transformers, more than meets the eye, heh.
Jul 1, 2016 5:06 pm
As an aside, this is a long weekend in Canada and the US. We typically see a decline in activity on weekends in general, so if we slow down, I'm not going to push it forward until Tuesday.
Jul 6, 2016 6:49 am
Has the Americas woken up yet? :p
Jul 9, 2016 2:07 pm
Last time CNNWAS posted was June 27. I've PM'd them and will NPC Hanson for now.
Jul 11, 2016 4:08 am
Sadly, I must bow out of this game. Nothing personal, it's been fun. However real-life before roleplay as the say. Sorry everyone. Do with Nar as you wish.
Jul 11, 2016 4:48 am
Sorry to see you go Skydut.
Jul 11, 2016 11:17 pm
I booted Skydut from the game and invited Cmbrian, who will play a half orc paladin who may or may not be called Nar. He'll either jump in as Nar, or get introduced shortly.
Jul 19, 2016 7:00 pm
CNNWAS has been AFK for awhile, and hasn't responded to my PM 10 days ago. I'm going to stop acting for him, and drop him from the game in a week or so.

The game has been slower than I'd like - part of this is due to having the enemies act on two different initiatives, and trying to arrange 8 groups (6 players and two NPC groups) in order.

I'll endeavour to have the enemies act on one initiative, and then the players can act in any order until all of you have acted. Hopefully that will pick up the pace.

But part is waiting for other people to act. As such, I'd like each of your input on whether to replace Hanson, or stick with 5.
Jul 19, 2016 7:15 pm
Either solution is good by me. Sad to see people go, but I guess thats to be expected this early on (as none of us really knew what we were getting into).

I'm guessing you have a better feel for the ideal pacing. Have to say, even with the slow pace I'm very excited to see where this is going. :)
Jul 19, 2016 8:11 pm
Five PCs should be sufficient, I think. Why don't we try it? If it looks like we need another PC at a later point, we could put the invitation out at that time.
Jul 22, 2016 12:50 am
This being my first pbp game, I really can't judge. I'm actually trying to figure out exactly when I should be posting!
Jul 27, 2016 4:50 pm
The poor guy had no hp left. I wasn't sure if I should impose Disadvantage, now that Concentration had been broken, or if the spell should persist in the closed space for awhile. Even for a round.

Anyway, made a judgement call that the spell immediately ended as duration was concentration and concentration broke.
Aug 8, 2016 1:23 pm
Heh. Just checked this morning to see who we were waiting on. Oh, it's me. Oops.
Aug 8, 2016 3:49 pm
oh yeah, you did mention flanking earlier. I jumped from AD&D to 5e so missed flanking!
Aug 10, 2016 7:08 pm
On a side note, I never realized how hard it is to write dialogue for a half-orc with an intelligence of 3. I'm not sure he even should be able to talk as eloquently as he is now :o
Aug 10, 2016 7:21 pm
Haha. I played a Int 3, high Wis dwarf druid a couple years ago. That was a mind bender.
Aug 10, 2016 7:25 pm
My first character in 5e was a low int fighter. It's an old reference, but I played him like Dauber from Coach. He was a lot of fun -- he stuck unwaveringly to his ideals. To a fault.
Aug 10, 2016 7:56 pm
Good point there. Dauber is dumb as a doorstop, but he is still able to talk (what he says is what lets you onto him, not a dire lack of vocabulary and grammar). I might let Grok do conjugations after all then, just need to find some middle ground between garbled nonsense and eloquent speech that works for him. :p

Thanks for the input
Aug 12, 2016 2:14 am
Maybe the room has something gigantic and slow with Initiative Feats!
Aug 23, 2016 11:01 pm
Hi everyone. I hate to do this, but I am afraid I have to drop out of the game. Between my home game (which I DM) going PBP and university starting up again, I can't keep up and I don't want to make everyone wait for me. Qralloq, thanks for DMing. You can pass Baroril on to someone else, NPC him, or give him a fitting death in sacrifice for his friends. It's been fun!
Aug 23, 2016 11:17 pm
Thanks for the heads up, argyle_ninja. Thanks for playing with us and putting up with my shenanigans.
Aug 23, 2016 11:53 pm
Sorry to see you go, argyle_ninja! But totally understand. All the best!
Aug 24, 2016 6:08 am
Good luck with the home game and university, hope to see you back on GamersPlane some time in the future. Take care :)
Aug 25, 2016 6:06 am
Take care, AN! It was fun playing with you. Good luck switching your home game to pbp & on your studies.
Aug 25, 2016 1:51 pm
I believe Grok gets to roll an extra 2d12 rather than just 1d12 on a Crit because of the half orc savage attack trait
Aug 25, 2016 2:30 pm
Oh, right you are. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll remember that the next time :)
Aug 26, 2016 4:49 pm
I have no idea how to award xp for this crazy adventure, but here is me trying to work it out:

Jail
- 12 "bandits", 25 xp each
- 4 level 4 NPCs, but without gear and only trying to flee: 350 each?
= 6 PCs: 283 xp per PC

{Hanson leaves the party}

Rift
- 10 dretches, 50 xp each
Tower
- 2 level 4 NPCs - 700 xp each
- Shadow Demon - 1100 xp
- 1 level 4 NPC - 700 xp
= 5 PCs: 740 xp per PC

Therefore, you each gain 1,023 xp. In addition, I generally award roleplaying and achievement awards, so let's call it 1,200, or exactly enough to reach level 3.
Aug 26, 2016 5:03 pm
That was an excellent, fast paced adventure, if that term can be used for pbp! Thanks so much for running it and bringing me in. You're very skilled at keeping the action going and giving us enough information to go on.

So far I'm a 5e guy, but I'd love to play in a future game of yours.

Thanks again!
Aug 26, 2016 5:11 pm
It was great to play with you, too.

I quite like this adventure, and you all played along great. It was difficult to keep you all from ending the adventure too soon by capturing Rigavian too soon, haha.
Aug 26, 2016 5:37 pm
Did we score any loot, or payment for services?

Rolls

Level up HP - (1d10+2)

(2) + 2 = 4

Aug 26, 2016 5:53 pm
I'll edit the epilogue post to add the award.
Aug 26, 2016 6:51 pm
Loved it! Thank you, Qralloq!!!

So, will you be closing this game now, or is there any chance of carrying on...?
Aug 26, 2016 7:01 pm
Thanks, Omenstar!

There is always a chance of continuing on. When I started this adventure, it was advertised to be a short one. I'm not opposed to continuing on, but that might not be the case for all of you.

If you do want to keep this one going, let me know and we can discuss what a next adventure might look like.
Aug 26, 2016 7:06 pm
Sounds great to me!
Aug 26, 2016 7:06 pm
I would absolutely love to carry on. The plan for Jhishma was to continue his "paladinhood" as a warlock - the Winter Queen of the Fey Court being his patron. It's his evolution as a Fey Knight.
Aug 26, 2016 8:18 pm
I'm up for anything ;) I like the thing Grok & Nar has going on, but didn't really get a proper feeling for the character himself. Grok is at times a bit boring to play (bit of a one-trick pony, and doesn't have the intelligence to be helpful when making decisions). I might change out Grok for a Cleric or Rogue depending on what the party wants :)

I have to say this little adventure inspired me to do more PbP, and I'd love to continue playing with you guys

Strike that. Thought about it and I found out I want to see what happens to Grok. I've got two other games at the site where I can be eloquent and help make decisions ;)

Aug 28, 2016 10:40 pm
Can't wait for chapter two!
Aug 28, 2016 11:19 pm
Got lots of ideas for Chapter 2 - continuing on the path to uncover the Shades of Orcus and their wacky hi-jinks. Waiting to see if GM_Meyner is joining us. Also, I'm not fussy about having a healer in the group but if you would prefer one, we could advertise for a replacement for Baroril.

Is there anything that you guys want to see in the next bit? Prisons and Pirates? Warrens and Warhorses? Dungeons and Dopplegangers? Armadas and Armies? Forests and Frogs, Giant? Towers and Trolls?

I've got Kelvin all set for third level, are we going to run the next game in this same forum or will there be a new one.

Dungeons & Dragons! LoL
I'm a little afraid to answer this question. As a DM myself I like using undead, devils, slaadi, towers and crypts, swamps and lonely mountain passes, forgotten caves and tunnels and haunted castles, Giants and aberrations!

It sounds like fun!
Aug 30, 2016 8:00 pm
I'm up for anything. Quite enjoyed the Bountyhunters/Lawmen theme we got going here, but there is no reason that can't escalate into standard monster-bashing dungeoneering adventuring :P

That being said, there are probably more dark cults that need their doors slammed down by 3 greataxes and some fireworks ;)

This adventure was one of the best I've played. The inability to rest served to ratchet up the tension -- although it would have been nice to add a little radiant smite to Nar's Maul.

I'll have time this weekend to put together the next adventure. The first post will go up by Monday at the latest.

As a preview, the wizardess Helge suggested that the King be told about the Shades of Orcus and their deeds. Who better to ride the kings road? You will be given access to messenger horses to ride to the capital and warn the King. No doubt the king will have duties for you... If you make it there.
Aug 31, 2016 6:06 pm
Splendid! Oh, I mean. "Sure thing, Sarge!"

Looking forward to it ;)

Oh, and let me take the opportunity to thank you heartily for running the game for us, as a RL GM I know it's a lot of work (lot of fun, but also work). So thanks!
Aug 31, 2016 6:10 pm
Looking forward to it! I'm headed to Dragon Con tomorrow to get some table side gaming in, so Monday start is perfect! Thanks so much for DMing.

That's certainly the cliche, granted. But actually I'm playing more to his background and character traits/flaws:
Personality Trait: I can stare down a hellhound without flinching.
Ideal: Responsibility. I do what I must and obey just authority.
Bond: I'll never forget the crushing defeat my company suffered or the enemies who dealt it.
Flaw: I obey the law, even if the law cause misery.

Having high Charisma and the proficiencies to pull it off sure don't hurt though! ;)

Ok -- never at any gaming table have I rolled like that -- and had that much damage behind a single swing! Please check my math, and if I'm not allowed crit damage on Divine Strike, deduct 11 for 49 damage.
Oct 13, 2016 6:13 pm
Critical hits should be epic, memorable moments! I would totally count it!

You are correct that GWF does not apply to divine smite.

I also read somewhere that Savage Attack only lets you roll an additional damage 'die' not 'dice', so I only did 1d6 rather than 2d6 for that.
Oct 13, 2016 8:12 pm
Sweet Christmas Nar! I'm going to have to examine all of that when I get home, but it is likely that your attack exceeded the target's 20 hit points. I'll describe the effects (and what else you see) later this evening.
Oct 13, 2016 11:44 pm
That all looks legitimate. On a crit, you reroll all dice, so Divine Smite fits right in there. Your right about Savage Attacks, and correctly applied the 1d6 (this is why half-orcs may favour greataxes with that 1d12).

Now, that's totally OP damage, given that the creature only had 20 hps, but man you gotta give Nar the slow clap on that one.
Oct 24, 2016 4:43 am
Sorry guys I was on vacation and I thought Id have internet.
Oct 26, 2016 3:42 pm
@azira Spending hit dice is normally your hit die plus your Constitution modifier, which for Grok is +4. Does Grok have an ability that increases this?

Qralloq says:

No, sorry.. Errouniously looked at the "saves" column. +4 is right, in that case grok is still 2hp out. I'll spend a second hit die to bring him up to full hp.
Oct 26, 2016 9:33 pm
Busted! (jk, I make the same mistake all the time, looking at the save column instead)

I'm brand new to GP so I apologize if I have a tough time getting used to the medium at first, but I'm definitely excited about getting going. Please feel free to let me know if I do anything incorrect or dumb in general. I'm going to read up on a couple of things and then head over to the character creation thread to roll my PC up. Thanks again!

Looking forward to it!

Welcome! This was actually the first game I joined too! Its a good one.

Let's discuss this in the OOC chat, so we don't bog down the main thread.
Omenstar says:
kalajel says:
OOC:
So, we have quite a few treasures we should split up at this point.

From the small fort:
3,000 Copper
600 Silver
50 Gold
15 gallon(s) of ale (3 gp)
5 lbs. of silver trade bars (25 gp)
3 star rose quartz worth 50 gp each
2 lapis lazuli worth 10 gp each
linen mask with silver thread worth 25gp
silk mask with silver thread worth 25gp
carved bone figurine worth 25gp
onyx pitcher worth 25gp

From the antechamber:
2,100 Copper
1,000 Silver
100 Gold
2 jasper worth 30 gp
3 white onyx worth 50 gp each
4 tiger eye worth 10 gp each
Cloak of Elvenkind (taken by Owen)
Wand of the War Mage +1 (taken by Jhishma)

from our fight with Ubar-Sin/his lab:
Greywolf, a Longsword +1 with a pommel of a howling wolf, medium sized platemail, and various spell pouches with mundane reagents. In his lab, you find his treasure stash containing:
200 Copper
4,000 Silver
2,000 Gold
50 Platinum
1 lyre (30 gp)
2 lbs. of cooking spices (4 gp)
6 set(s) of fine clothes (90 gp)
1 lyre (30 gp)
2 set(s) of fine clothes (30 gp)
9 lbs. of copper trade bars (4.5 gp)
9 yellow quartz worth 50 gp each
5 blue tourmaline worth 100 gp each
fur robe worth 250gp
wool robe worth 250gp
glass statuette worth 250gp
onyx bird cage worth 250gp
carved bone circlet worth 250gp
fur robe worth 250gp
(total value 5,540 gp, 5 sp) (Nar offered to liquidate all this with the consent of the party, but nobody said anything so far... honeslty, I wouldn't mind keeping one of the lyres for myself...)
I had written this for Jhishma at the end of chapter two. Hope it's ok:
Omenstar says:
Jhishma regards the fur robe and one set of the fine clothes with an appraising eye, then he offers, "I don't mind carrying most of the coins if yous prefer to split the gold."
OOC:
Jhishma will take the copper, the silver, the platinum, the fur robe and one set of fine clothes, if you agree that that's fair.
Grok doesn't care about *stuff* atm, so I have no problem liquidating all of it. Well.. Grok might want one of the masks if it doesn't look too omnious

I suggest we liquidate everything that nobody needs and put it in the party coffer. I also don't have a problem if someone else uses more of the funds than me once we go shopping (as Grok isn't very high maintenance), as long as it's for something "useful". ;)
Jan 2, 2017 8:17 pm
Nar had his eye on one of the fur robes...
Jan 2, 2017 8:49 pm
I'd like one of the lyres.
Jan 3, 2017 2:07 am
I'm good with just the elven cloak.
Jan 3, 2017 2:27 am
Nikcollini says:
I'm good with just the elven cloak.
I certainly hope so, it's a magical item which is probably worth 2000~4000 gp...
Jan 13, 2017 1:34 am
So Owen took the Elven Cloak
Jhishma takes the Wand of the War Mage+1, plus 5300cp + 5600 sp + 50 pp + fur robe (250 gp) + 1 set of fine clothes (15 gp)
Nar is taking the plate armor (1500 gp) plus 1 fur robe (250gp) and maybe the longsword +1?
Cyrind'ae takes a lyre (30 gp)
Grok takes a mask (25 gp)

The rest adds up to 365+350+4097 = 4812 gp to be divided.

In 5e, they don't suggest any price for magic items. I won't attempt to value them. The fair thing would be for Cyrind'ae and Grok to take larger shares of the gold, but that's up to you to work out.
Jan 13, 2017 2:32 am
Recommended ranges for prices of magic items by rarity is on p. 135 of the DMG.

I feel Jhishma can't accept any more this time.
Jan 13, 2017 2:44 am
Okay, DMG pg 135 has guidelines apparently:
- uncommon magic item (WofWM+1, weapon +1, Cloak of the Elvenkind) are recommended to be 101-500 gp
Jan 13, 2017 3:05 am
Wow, magic items are much cheaper in this edition...
Jan 13, 2017 3:09 am
Nar doesn't want the sword -- just wants to check it out before handing it to a friend. He was thinking the ranger or maybe the bard, just to be nice to confuse her.
Jan 13, 2017 7:51 am
Grok has no use for armor, and is happy with his little friend. ;)

He doesn't have initiative enough to stock up on tools/gear etc, so he doesn't have much use for the gold either. That being said, if anyone else takes initiative to it, he'll carry any tools or stuff we need. Otherwise, let's put the rest in the bank for a rainy day? (I'm assuming we can't go magic item shopping like it's 3e ^^)
Jan 13, 2017 3:53 pm
kalajel says:
Wow, magic items are much cheaper in this edition...
I know, right? When I DM I always use the highest recommended amounts.
Jan 14, 2017 1:48 am
Any money Owen would get would go to his town, so if the group has other use of it then he wouldn't mind them using it.
Jan 19, 2017 12:59 am
Anything special about the spikey platemail?
Jan 19, 2017 1:03 am
Cmbrian says:
Anything special about the spikey platemail?
No, it's just platemail. As it is spiked, you can use it to make attacks but those attacks would be less effective than using your main weapon.

I'm not sure if 5e has stats for spiked armor damage somewhere sub-obvious. If not, assume dagger damage.

Great use of the Spoiler tag to hide spell details yet have them available as needed!
Jan 29, 2017 9:38 pm
Please let me know if there's anything I can do to make your job easier as far as formatting goes.
Jan 30, 2017 12:49 am
Spells cluttered the chat up so much. The spoiler tag is great!

Thanks! I may be able to stand in here for another round!
Jan 31, 2017 8:56 pm
Haha no prob! I should've used my bonus action to pop another heal on you.
Jan 31, 2017 9:32 pm
Save it for after I pop back up from zero with 1hp from relentless endurance! I feel it coming...
Jan 31, 2017 9:37 pm
Good idea.

Whaaat? That never happens to us? Oh it has? I guess Half-orc Relentless Endurance saves our bacon regularly? :p Goes to show Half-orcs are too beautiful to die!
Jan 31, 2017 10:03 pm
Crispy, charred bacon.
Feb 11, 2017 9:12 pm
@Cmbrian - looks like we cross-posted. I edited the Duke's spiel to include references to Nar. Your post must have gone up after I started drafting mine.
Feb 12, 2017 6:07 am
Sorry I'm not committing more to the scene guys, I've got a ton going on. Had to prepare for an in-person session on both the last two days.
Feb 12, 2017 3:50 pm
This has really dragged on more than I was anticipating. Not that useful role-playing hasn't been done, it's just been slow.

I'll get us moving later today... I promise action, adventure, danger!

Yeah, they got some pretty good songs. You should check out We Drink Your Blood too...
Feb 19, 2017 2:45 am
For sure.
Feb 19, 2017 3:25 pm
That looks like a great band. Reminds me of a gothic Sabaton!
Mar 6, 2017 8:38 pm
Super slothful weekend, I'll update the game tonight. I think everyone has acted, just need to sort that out, and then... cast another spell, mwa ha ha!
Mar 11, 2017 11:33 pm
Bwa HA ha ha... Natural 1 on wisdom save. I had no idea whether or not REPENT is a useful Command, so I rolled... A save means who cares.

A natural 1 means.... She wants to be saved, I guess.
Mar 12, 2017 12:18 am
Yea I wasn't sure whether repent would apply or not, but I thought it was worth a shot. Gwahaha!
Mar 22, 2017 2:35 am
Hmm, looks like Mariana town is at war with Klendathu... As if they had not enough problems with the priests of Orcus...
Mar 22, 2017 2:42 am
"I thought Marion Town was clear?"

"Marion Town crawls, sir!"
Mar 28, 2017 10:14 am
Hey everybody, bad news. It seems I am being forced to move out far earlier than I had planned. The house I am living in is being sold, so I need to get a job and move out ASAP. Originally I was not gonna be pushed until I graduated, but such is life.

As a result I cannot faithfully keep up with all the games I am in. Thank you so much for teaching me how PbP works and so much about DnD 5e. I love the system and I love all your characters. Your RP put me to shame and taught me so much. I hope that when life settles down and I return to my old game playing rates I can play in games with you all again. Qralloq especially, thank you for letting me in when I first joined the site and being so cool about a newbie playing among veterans. I hope to play your games more in the future.

For story's sake you can say Owen vanished without a trace, use him as an NPC or enemy, or simply he went back to his home in the woods. Do as you like.

God Bless.
Mar 28, 2017 11:21 am
Sorry to hear that Nikcollini, hope it'll sort itself out for you, and looking forward to see you back on the site when it does. Good luck, go crit success some job interviews!
Mar 28, 2017 12:25 pm
Best of luck Nikcollini!
Mar 28, 2017 1:05 pm
Thank you for the thoughtful exit, Nikcollini. It was a pleasure having you with us.
Apr 1, 2017 8:56 pm
Ah darn I just saw this. Definitely had fun playing with Nickollini. Good luck in your future endeavors!
May 6, 2017 12:37 am
Thank you so much Qralloq! This was a fantastic adventure -- you are an extremely creative and capable DM.

To the team -- it has been a real pleasure serving with you on behalf of the Duke against the minions of Orcus. You all are great players and I'll really miss this group and this adventure.

Jhishma, may you serve the Winter Queen well. It's been an honor.
Cyrind'ae, thank you for keeping our spirits up during the dark times. Spread our tale far and wide!
Padre! I feel blessed to have been in your presence. Hail Apollo!
So Grok -- let's go pick up those duds and hobnob with the royals, my brother!

I hope to play with you all again sometime!
May 6, 2017 1:07 am
Thank you guys so much for accepting me into your game! I had a wonderful time and I hope I have the pleasure of joining you in another adventure in another world at another time! Thanks Qralloq for being an excellent DM!

The ending was a bit anti-climatic, but okay, neat. Yeah, this was a fun game.

Haha, that's true. I had meant to build it up with the cultists upstairs, but you went right for the boss fight.

Another great adventure! Again kudos to Quralloq for running a great game, and thank you all, love the party dynamic :)

Some questions as we wrap up...

1) What did you think about the Advantage When Flanking optional rule? (To be fair, this didn't really come up where the foes were in position for flanking.)
2) How do you find the inherent level of danger / threat of lethality in 5e? (Many of the encounters were well above your pay grade.)
May 7, 2017 4:14 am
1) I haven't experienced it.
2) I'm not sure I've been playing in this game long enough to really see it. I've heard 5th edition was more lethal. I've dropped down to like 2 hp once against that priest of Orcus in the caves, but later fights were less intensive HP-wise for my character.
May 7, 2017 5:51 am
1) I think it made a big difference in our ability to overcome some of the difficult fights. But it doesn't feel like it fits PBP, unless you post maps with updated positions every round. I thought you were also extra generous with how you let us do mounted combat.

2) The lethality of 5e is really noticeable at 1st level, but after that PCs start getting enough tricks up their sleeves to handle what you throw at them, especially with a party of 5 or 6 PCs.

1) My take is that us melee fighters got a lot from the flanking advantage. Probably saved our skins a couple of times. For Grok, it meant he didn't have to use Reckless Attack, so he probably got hit a lot less as well. (And he's dropped enough already :p). Grok was a fun guy to be risky with though, with his single-mindedness in combat I'm actually surprised he made it through (Thanks to everyone who always came in and saved him at the last moment, thanks guys :D)

2) Combat's felt lethal enough, certainly. And you were kind enough to hint when we were out of our league (dracolich in the end of the previous adventure), which probably saved us from a TPK. Generally I found we were in danger in most combats, but not over our heads.

This is part of the reason I took Healing Word instead of Cure wounds. It heals less, but I can cast it as an immediate action. Enough to keep someone alive for an actual cure spell or some other form of healing later...

Thanks for the feedback all, I appreciate taking the time. I have played a bunch of 5e here, and a little bit online through the Tabletop RPG One Shot Group on Facebook, but these channels don't always tend to lead to the same kind of spitballing that occurs after an IRL campaign.
May 10, 2017 4:43 am
1. I've never been sure how to apply this to my games. I think it makes sense after a certain number of attackers surround an opponent. Just didn't know what number of attackers was best. As a GWM, I'll take all the advantage I can get!

2. I think the danger was definitely there -- the hell hounds, the dracolich, the were-creatures. The latter could have really nailed us if you hadn't gone easy on us, allowing them to be damaged by non-magical weapons. Teeing off on the zombies wasn't dangerous, but it was a hell of a lot of fun!
