Perhaps nine or ten scouts and people hidden in the woods.
Behind the group are three people:
One wearing shiny metal armour painted in colourful design, like a building?
Another is dressed in simple clothing, holding a stout wooden Tower banner that feels alive with spirit.
The last, probably the leader, wears a grey robe embroidered with traces of silver and gold metals. This is likely a speaker of the tower, but maybe wearing fancier clothes.
Then another 16 soldiers.
Then carts pulled by oxen - two oxen per cart. Two carts have drivers. And six horses, with a person leading each horse. And two more carts. (Four total carts).
Then another 16 soldiers.
Then a cross between a sled and a cart, being pulled by a team of well-trained dogs. On the cart - a passenger covered in an unremarkable cloak.
Then another 50-60 people who appear less-disciplined, with no visible weapons, clothed slightly better than the builders and water carriers. (Some kind of labourers?)
Then a sequence of different animals - sheep, free-ranging dogs.
Then a final rank of 16 soldiers.
They will reach the site of the road-building in four days. They would have had to have been supplied 3-4 days back.
There is an absence of the big rocky things. Apparently they don't travel with these groups.
M3D23 Taft and Summer leave.
M3D24 Vasil and Shadow finish building the woodshed. (Vasil pick up next day)
M3D25 Shadow leaves message with the Raucous Caucus. Vasil finds Akseli.
M3D26 Taft sees the army of the Agents of the Tower. Shadow tracks down wolves. Vasil digs Ditch.
M3 D27. Shadow warns wolves; Taft finds a patrol. Vasil lines pit.
M3D28- Last day of World's Waking. Vasil and Shadow get stuff in place.
M4D1 - First day of Hunter's Blessing; clay set and fired.
M4D2 Agents reach Roadbuilders. (known to Taft)
(M5 is Last Wetting - the last month of Spring)
Taft and Summer depart, leaving Shadow and Vasil in the steading. Pushing forward into the forest, Taft and Summer carefully by the head of the Stone River, without event. Some time later, Taft hears marching. At risk of being seen, he scouts closer, getting a good view of the approaching army, gaining valuable information for the fight.
Meanwhile, Shadow helps Vasil build a lean-to, intended to house firewood and charcoal for smithing purposes. Shadow makes contact with the local Unkindess of Ravens, asking them to carry message back to its pack at home.
Circles B3. + 1D Reputation.
Not a great Circles result. Vasil was only able to find one helper - Vakseli who appears to have some disease that isn't Leprosy. Apparently an outbreak of some disease might be on the cards.

Vasil went looking for help to build his forge. Found the watercarrier Akseli, who appears to be afflicted by some disease. There may be a plague brewing in Flodmynningstead. Dug a phenomenally good firepit - just really bloody top shelf, as firepits go. Sealed the insides with a clay slurry atop stones. Akseli is sleeping in the woodshed.
Shadow went to go warn the local populace of wolves. A retired Spirit Hunter leads them, sees Summer as a threat to be destroyed. Needed to convince this Longtooth of the dangers approaching. (What was the result of that roll? I don't remember, sorry!)
Taft and Summer, having seen the force approaching from the road, decided to continue their scouting mission. Running hard and long, they followed the road to its source. There, they ran into a patrol; armoured Tower troops. Taft sprung into action, throwing a spear of ice through the chest of one, while taking an arrow from the other, who promptly fainted, having seen his friend impaled.
Taft is seriously wounded - a Midi, and it's bleeding. Three weeks walk from his allies, Taft is in trouble.

Timeline:
M3D23 Taft and Summer leave.

M3D25 Shadow leaves message with the Raucous Caucus. Vasil finds Akseli.
M3D26 Taft sees the army of the Agents of the Tower. Shadow tracks down wolves. Vasil digs Ditch.
M3D27. Shadow warns wolves; Taft finds a patrol, interrogates and learns of Tri. Vasil lines a pit.
M3D28- Last day of World's Waking. Vasil and Shadow get stuff in place.
M4D1 - First day of Hunter's Blessing; clay set and fired.
M4D2 Agents reach Roadbuilders. (known to Taft). Vasil finishes the tools for the forge, and Shadow finds Vlodni.
M4D6 Taft Reaches Flodmyningstead.
Taft, wounded and bleeding binds the hands of the fainted Tower guard. He and Summer set to stopping his bleeding. Summer makes an enemy of the Bryophyta family, but successfully licks Taft's wound into submission.
After tending his wound as best they can (if it's protruding from Taft, snap the shaft), Taft sets to interrogating the bound Tower guard. It is revealed that Taft's name is known. Taft Silverhair, or Taft Silvertongue - a legend, a monster spoken of with awe. There was no convincing this man of Taft's humanity, or the wrongness of the Tower's ways, but Taft let him live regardless.
Meanwhile, Shadow spoke to the local wolves, reaching a stalemate with their Longtooth. The pack has been warned, but are not interested in meddling in human affairs. Some hole-action later, (firepit, and wolf anus, both), Shadow decided the sickness threatening the village was a priority that needed addressing. It went looking for a herbalist it had seen in its youth, finding not the one it expected, but an old man [name?] who turned out to be Alva's former Master, when she had been an apprentice. Together, they moved back to Flodmynningstead. It was also revealed that the Leshie, a trickster woods spirit has awoken from its winter slumber. It is angry.
Vasil continued the preparation of his forge. Helping Akseli to seal the inside of the pit, Vasil set to making the tools of his trade. He constructed a fine set of blacksmithing apparatus, marking each, and the forge itself with the sign of his patron spirit, Pyre.
The sickness continues to threaten Flodmynningstead, and to Vasil and Shadow, this seems the greatest looming danger. They still do not know of the great force headed towards them, nor of Taft's wounding. Will the healer be able to stop the spread of disease? Will Vasil be able to craft Vakkar a weapon sharp enough to cut through Spirit and Stone? Will Taft survive his wounds, deep within enemy territory?
Tune in next week to find out on Channelling the Wheel.

The plague is being caused by the Leshy (spirit of the trees) as a way of eliminating invasive humans. Shadow barked at it. Leshy is a male counterpart to the female spirit of the river.
The Leshy cannot attack the people while they're on the stones.
The Leshy knows that there are spirit marks on the axes of the builders (Pyre), and spirit marks on the speakers.
He wasn't going to stop hurting things on the East side of the river, but would stay away from Flodminningstead.
Agreed not to hurt those marked by Frost or Wind; specifically agreed not to harm Vasil and Akseli. Couldn't really distinguish people unless they were marked. He could only protect or identify other people who are marked with the Forest.
The Leshy lashed out at water carriers and other people because he didn't know what they were.

They intended to talk to Vlodny, their strangely magical acquaintance, about the feasibility of allying with the Leshy. Unfortunately, this suggestion saw Vasil and Shadow showered with nettle tea as the shock of being asked such a stupid question caused the ancient forest-dweller to spit his drink all over them. Vlodny berated the two for their folly, then graced them with the story of the first channelers. Having learned how humans came to contract with the spirits in the first place and had their hopes of reasoning with the Leshy dashed, the two of them seem to have run out of potential allies.
However, seeing Vlodny's star-lit eyes reminds Shadow... Humans aren't the only beings who walk the forest on two legs, are they?

The Prisoner (played by Chris this session) -"Attanithioniel" (he/they) Exiled for Murder around 100 years ago. Returned to an empty area after fathering Vlodny, built his tree house. Two years ago, other elves moved into the area and said they could stay on the outskirts of the area.
The Althing - "Pikanos". (she/they) Ancient and Venerable and Wise leader who called the Tower "Rod" and is going to try and Treat with it for protection.
The Etharch - "Athioniel" (they/them) Inheritor of the Throne, hereditary title. Supreme ruler of MANY elves. Didn't expect to inherit anytime soon. Musician, lives with other elves in a surprisingly normal way for a supreme ruler. Never really meant to inherit the throne. Also there are very few elves now anyway.
The Advisor - "Ishitath" (they/them) Over 300 years old. A cousin of Etharch Athioniel. Considered "a hero" for saving so many lives when the destruction hit. Prisoner murdered their daughter's betrothed/lover.
A series of seismic activities including volcanic explosions led to the collapse of elven civilisation and the loss of their harbour for sailing west within the last 5 years. There are very few elves left. They have ancient history with Rod, who they consider to be one of the most powerful spirits, but they do not worship any spirits or have channelers like humanity does.
A "smoking gun" was found by Summer that implies Summoning was to blame for the devastation, perhaps summonation of The Tower, and that bloodshed within the elven Citadels had occurred, which are both pretty serious.
He's exiled due to a murder committed long ago. We didn't decide on specifics about that in the end, other than, he absolutely did kill another Elf. Maybe it involved a rival over a love interest.
As per Ivan's summary on Gamersplane: The Tower might also be named Rod, a Leshy-level Major spirit that represents all stone.
The elves have suffered some kind of calamity, that may have involved a volcano.
The Elves aren't specifically allied to Rod, but aren't antagonistic either. There's a chance Shadow, Summer, and perhaps The Prisoner might be able to sabotage an alliance, given that a Speaker has been summoned to speak with them.

We snuck out into elven lands. Into an area the elves have abandoned. The Prisoner would be executed if he were found there.
We found devastation, signs of an earthquake, or similar, a fissure in the earth.
By the river we found a purple cloth the knives are wrapped in bears a symbol of a sword between white towers.
The symbol pertains to Swordsingers who have sworn to protect the land and citadel.
The knives wrapped in this cloth smell as though they have been used in summoning - linked to the earthquake and devastation.
Rod appears to be linked to the tower - an aspect, the same thing, it's unclear.

Upon presenting Ethontath with evidence of Elven participation in the summoning that caused the Calamity, Ishitath stepped from the shadows.
Attanithioniel and Shadow place pressure on a lie - Ishitath knows more than they were letting on. This leads to a candid conversation.
Attanithioniel agrees to purge these lands of three impurities: these cursed daggers, the banner, and himself. He is exiled once more.
The wolves do not gain the material aid they came here to seek, but they return having undermined an alliance the Tower sought. The Elves are functionally neutral. Even if they are opposed to The Tower - "Rod", as they call it - in theory; in practice, they favour self-preservation.
The Elf Attanithoniel, The Prisoner, The Exile - he walks with the wolves. He carries a heavy burden. His guilt, his exile, his grief, these daggers - masterworks of Elven craftmanship, dripping with magic and malice. To an Elf sworn against violence, they make his palms itch to look upon.

Vasil approached Vlodny, asking about the nature of Spirit Marks. Vasil discovered that he may have the ability to brand them upon flesh. Vlodny demonstrated this by giving Vasil a painful burn. Vasil was not amused.
After a difficult forging of brittle metal, Vasil succeeded in building a branding iron, bearing a symbol that may represent Leshy. He branded himself on the chest with this symbol, and hopes to do the same to the men of Flodmynningstead, so that they may be protected from the Leshy.
Shadow, Summer, and The Exile returned to the Stead, to find Vlodny tending to Vasil's new burn. Vlodny walked off into the forest with his father, as Vasil and the wolves discussed their plans to attack the builders of the Road.
