The alpha playtest for the new SWADE Fantasy Companion has been released and I have my copy! I'm looking to put the new rules to the test and run a Savage Worlds fantasy campaign in a setting of my own design (see below). Would there be any interest in such a thing? The world is largely traditional fantasy with elves, dwarves, faeries, dragon men, orcs, and the like. If you have the new rules, great! If not, you can play perfectly well using just the SWADE rules.

I'm keeping the plot largely a secret so as not to spoil anything, but you can expect lots of fantasy tropes.

Can you tell a little about the plot theme at least?

Okay, try this: The adventures are set against the backdrop of a BBEP (big bad evil person) attempting to free a great evil that has been imprisoned for the good of all. Of course, the heroes, upon learning about this plot, must stop them. As you adventure, you will uncover more of the plot, getting vital clues to help you identify who or what the threat is and how to go about putting a stop to it.

I have backed the fantasy companion, but haven't had the chance to digest it yet. But would be interested in playing some Savage Worlds.

I'm interested. I own SWADE and PF-SWADE if that counts for anything. I've played a bit of it IRL.

Swade is super neat, I haven't gotten to play a game that actually went much of anywhere but I've played in several one-shots. I'd be interested enough, I think.

Alright, I can take four. I'll be getting things set up over the next week or so and I will invite everyone who was interested when I am ready.

Was that map made with Wonderdraft? It looks quite nice.

Yes it was, and thank you!

I'm always interested in SWADE (been using at my weekly in person game since it game out!).

If you don't mind me asking, how is the companion! First impressions?!

I've only just begun to plumb its depths and I am stoked! It offers 20 new ancestries for characters to choose from, a baker's dozen new hindrances, and well-over 40 brand new edges. It also has suggestions for emulating "classes" from traditional fantasy, if that's your style. Add to this new powers, tons of new gear, new weapons and armor, expanded rules for poisons, traps (and how to use them in-game), information on deities, new magical goodies, setting suggestions, and over 50 foes and you have a tome that is genuinely worthy of its title!

How do you think it compares to the Savage Worlds Pathfinder set? Isn't it supposed to be a little more generic fantasy (e.g. build-your-own fantasy world) vs. Golarion-inspired flavor?

That discussion might also be worth a thread in the Pen & Paper subforum, to keep this thread uncluttered for the actual interest check

I have moved the discussion over to the Pen & Paper subforum, as suggested.

Curious about SWADE, own a copy, alas if there is no room can I lurk?

I will add you to the invitation list when I get things ready. Should be about a week.

I am putting the finishing touches on the character creation document now. It should only be another day or two, despite my coming down with COVID (even though I am double vaccinated).

Being vaccinated doesn't keep you from contracting COVID, it just lets your immune system know (ahead of time) how to fight it so it shouldn't be as severe.

That said, definitely take care of yourself. It can still be a nasty little virus!
