About the Game: Rangers of Elyria is a game of facilitated collaborative storytelling using a slightly modified version of the Push RPG ruleset by Cezar Capacle. The game provides a general framework for a section of a fantasy world, but the details are filled in by the players as they play using prompts and oracles to spur their imaginations. While the players are the architects of both their stories and the world, the Facilitator serves to keep the flow of the story moving, assist with the interpretation of the various tables and oracles, play NPC’s etc.
Game Blurb:
The realm of Elyria has enjoyed many centuries of peace and prosperity guided by the wise and benevolent principles of its founders. Under the long and tedious reign of the previous monarch, however, Elyria fell into a period of cultural stagnation, complacency and lassitude. Now many citizens regard the lofty ideals upon which their society was built with a kind of quaint nostalgia, or even outright cynicism. This creeping moral malaise has created fertile ground for the rise of petty tyrants, religious cults, and all those who prey on the weak, the desperate, and the lost.
The task of righting the ship of state falls upon the inexperienced shoulders of the young Queen, Aranya IV, but it is an arduous endeavor and one fraught with many perils and pitfalls. Scheming nobles, duplicitous courtiers and corrupt bureaucrats maneuver in the shadows in pursuit of power, influence and wealth. The more remote regions of the realm, largely ignored and left to their own devices under her predecessor, have become havens for bandits, criminals and illicit activities. Graver still are the conditions on the frontiers near the wildlands to the north and south, where decades of total neglect have rendered them feral and populated by all manner of fell creatures.
To the East, the fanatical Priestking and his army of zealots wage a never ending war against heretics and unbelievers in the name of their One True God. These Solerians see Elyria’s decline as an opportunity to extend their theocratic dominion far beyond the traditional reaches of their empire, and their agents and provocateurs range ever more widely, sowing discord and discontent among the citizens of neighboring lands. Many view war between Soleris and Elyria as a welcome inevitability.
You are members of the elite Rangers of Elyria, itinerant wardens of the land, and answerable only to the Queen herself. Your task is to root out threats to her rule, provide security and aid to her subjects, and serve as living examples of the ideals of honor, justice and compassion upon which Elyria was founded.
Game Duration & Post Frequency: The game is played in a series of episodes (Quests) consisting of roughly 7-10 scenes. This may be a one-shot, or an episodic campaign like a tv series depending on interest. Due to the collaborative nature of the game, and to keep momentum, posting frequency is 1 per day minimum.
Specialized Software & Resources: None.
Player Experience Requirements: Collaborative storytelling is tricky, but the system and the Facilitator help smooth the process. However, it works best if a majority of the players are experienced roleplayers, preferably with some GMing experience.
LGBTQ+ Friendly: The realm of Elyria is explicitly LGBTQ+ inclusive, and respect for the rights and dignity of all to live and express as they choose is part of the moral code which the heroes live by. However, Elyria's enemies, notably the Dominion of Soleria, do not. Inclusion of storylines showcasing conflicts regarding these issues will be up to the players to decide, but it is part of the world the characters inhabit.
