Chapter 3: Onwards!

Jul 19, 2022 2:05 pm
After an evening of respite (well, for most of you at least), the sun rises anew across the lands of Xhorhas. If you were expecting a peaceful morning sipping your morning coffee and watching the sunrise, then Jigow is the wrong town for you. From even before the crack of dawn, the city is restless and noisy. The earth-pounding footsteps shake your hotel rooms as ogres amble past the Inn, goblins and kobolds argue, haggle, and play alley games in shrill, raspy voices just outside your window, and the inn itself bows and sways slightly at the horizonback tortiose the inn is built upon wakes, stretches its legs, and begins eating the first of many breakfasts of the day.

In the morning, Faelen (or whoever has the Jewel and attuned to it) feels connected and protective of the jewel, and vice versa. You feel a slight increase in your maneuverability, a stronger bond with your allies, and a faint call leading you in a vaguely southeastern direction.

Agatha Silverspoon
You all regroup back in the main floor of the Unbroken Tusk Inn, where Agatha Silverspoon continually enters and exits the front door, hands filled with pies, pastries, and pancakes of all kinds: cherry pies, breakfast pies, meat pies, bagels, croissants, choloate pancakes, you name it and she's got it or can have it in 10-15 minutes. A steady stream of cityfolk wander in for both eat in and takeout options, giving the place a very lively atmosphere.
OOC:
Please, describe your character morning routine if you so wish :)
What would you guys like to do? I think Faelen might have some advice to give on what to do next (or i can write it out, up to you :) )
Jul 19, 2022 4:07 pm
After his nightly adventure, the half drow has slept the sleep of the righteous and had rested much longer than normal. After an extensive half-hour of caring for his gear and appearance, the noble had strolled into the breakfast-room and had laden his plate with delicacies.

Balancing his loaded tray through the crowd to the table where he can make out some of his friends, Faelan settles on a comfy looking bench, with his back to the wall. Just how the Rosohnian likes it. Listening for a few minutes while eating, the fighter keeps his eyes open if he can recognize someone of the other team from yesterdays competition.

As soon as the fighter finished his breakfast and wiped his mouth with a napkin, he proposes to the team: "I would prefer to talk in a setting where there are fewer curious ears around. Maybe we can find a place where there are no listeners?" Outside the city, on a small ship, with a mindlink, or something similar.
Jul 19, 2022 7:35 pm
"Well you find me intrigued, Faelan. Whatever may justify this need for secrecy?" Kailani flashes a teasing smile at her companion. "It was a night well spent, I hope? Something to brag about, even?" The young woman sips a cup of tea. There is no food before her and some strands of hair seem damp, as if recently in the water.

She has spend enough time at the docks to know about the ships that wait there and she is confident, their passage will be free - may the time come. But where would the winds take them? She chuckled, then softly blew on her beverage, watching her group over the rim of the china. "We could start the day with a stroll, I suppose. North will do, we'll be out of the town in a few minutes."
Jul 20, 2022 8:08 am
Tereze yawns and wipes her sleepy eyes. It had been hard to sleep, between the noise of the town and her own mind's preoccupations. Despite this, she musters a friendly smile to Agatha and orders a cherry pie and a tankard of water to clear her head.

"I could use some fresh air" She agrees with Kailani, and though there was a sliver of temptation to join in teasing Faelan, she concentrated wordlessly on her breakfast instead. Chomp chomp.
Jul 20, 2022 8:46 am
Holding Kailani's gaze for a long moment, the half drow shrugs it off and replies: "At least a night to remember." without revealing anything more.

Waiting for the Tereze to finish, Faelan leaves a few coins for their breakfast if necessary and is ready to take all the ladies for a stroll.
Jul 25, 2022 4:59 pm
The party finishes their breakfast. Agatha clears your plates with a tusky smile and whisks away to throw another batch of pies in the oven. Faelen keeps an eye out, but doesn't spot any of the members of the rival party in the Unbroken Tusk. The group steps down off the back of the horizonback tortoise and begins walking through the streets (or wherever you would like to go to have a discussion).

Getting nervous because of the secret rolls.... Faerie Fire! Show me those invisible suckers! ;)
As Kailani leads their small group out fo the inn and back onto the streets the half-drow stays alert, if they are followed. As inconspicuous as possible, but still. A bit down the road, at the sea side, the black-haired beauty decides for a spot with enough breaking waves and gurgling water that the noble feels save enough to distribute what he learned last night. Standing together closley, the fighter looks at his newly found friends for a long moment before he confines in them:

"After our shared vision last night, I visited an old acquaintance of my family. The name of the place the ancient warrior spoke of is Bazzoxan. A town with cursed ruins housing a temple that has been there since the Calamity. It is not fare from here - ust a short sea voyage away. North of Rhosona at the coast."

Following this revelation the Hythenos gives the ladies a summary of what he could find out:
The Betrayer's Rise in Bazzoxan is an ancient temple dedicated to the Betrayer Gods, the gods who fought against the Prime Deities during the Calamity in an effort to destroy life on Exandria and start anew. Ancient magic and curses keep the magics of their seat of power alive, and Bazzoxan the town exists purely as a means to prevent the horrors within from spilling out and engulfing the Kryn Dynasty in chaos and war once again. Many scholars believe this is one of, if not the, location where the Betrayer Gods' influence on Exandria remains the strongest in all the Prime Material Plane.

"On top I got the warning, that if we should decide to venture into this temple, we should gather as much information in Bazzoxan as possible, before daring such an endeavor."

Ending his narration, Faelan looks his partners in the eye and tries to see if their heart is in it, or not.
Jul 27, 2022 10:05 am
Tereze nods as she listens to Faelan's story, though something is still off about her demeanor, as if her mind is elsewhere. She forcibly injects herself with some enthusiasm - she could take time to herself later.

I'm sure finding passage on the sea will be straightforward enough, now our names are known and well.. because we have enough gold to make a compelling offer. And I'm sure the Moonweaver will bless us with clear skies and bright stars to guide our way"

The betrayer gods... Tereze hums, trying to recall some stories she had heard before. "Even if leads nowhere, cleansing that temple is a noble cause"

Religion Check - (1d20+3)

Jul 27, 2022 1:41 pm
OOC:
Pretty good history check from Tereze! Long lore drop inbound
Tereze remembers the ancient family library at her family's estate and reading about the History of Exandria as a young adult. While it is still up for debate and often disputed by many scholars, the most widely accepted creation myth of Exandria is this. The world of Exandria was first a chaotic ball of wild elements, storms and fire raged on ceaselessly, and this chaotic rock was ruled by the Primordials-- elemental beings of near-deific power. But Exandria was devoid of life, just roiling water, earth, fire, and air.

The Creators (all of the gods except the Raven Queen and Vecna, who were mortals that joined the pantheon later on) arrived to Exandria and breathed life into the world, creating the first elves, dwarves, humans, and so on. Their creations tried to live on Exandria, but the Primordials and their elemental chaos made their lives short and dangerous, which saddened all of the Creators. There was intense debate amongst the Creators, but eventually the majority of them decided to gift their creations magic. This helped in their fight against the Primordials, but it wasn't enough. From there, the gods split into two camps.

The Prime Deities fought alongside their creations to destroy the Primordials and tame the world for their creations' safety. But the Betrayer Gods, as they would soon come to be known, frustrated by their losses, gave up and tried to abandon their creations. Some with mad with grief and loss, and others gave in to the temptations of the Lower Planes such as the Abyss and the Nine Hells. They returned to Exandria and fought alongside the Primordials against their creations and the Prime Deities. The Prime Deities were eventually victorious and sealed away their betrayer brethren along with the Primordials.

Humanoid society thrived in the following centuries, with the Prime Deities walking across Exandria at their side. This led to the grand Age of Arcanum, where magic became mundane and everywhere, often referred to as Exandria's golden age. However, humanoids became so powerful as to be able to fight the gods, and some tried to usurp them. In the process, the Betrayer Gods were unleashed once again, thus beginning the Calamity, the second war on Exandria between the Prime Deities and the Betrayer Gods. The Prime Deities were victorious once again, but not before centuries of untold death and destruction were wrought against Exandria, with over 2/3 of the world's population wiped out. Regretting the chaos their presence has caused Exandria, the Prime Deities locked themselves and their brethren behind the Divine Gate, which prevents the entry of any god to the Prime Material Plane.

There are some variations, such as followers of the believe that the young, formless, curious Luxon was the first to arrive to Exandria in search of an understanding of itself. And some even believe that the Luxon gave birth to the Primordials and shaped the elemental chaos of Exandria's first age.
Jul 28, 2022 4:58 pm
"Well, Bazzoxan it is then. I'm sure we can get passage easily. We might think about provisions and equipment, though." The young woman cocks her head in contemplation. Then she grins and shakes her head. "Adventure found us, let's not have it wait too long!"

She takes a step towards Tereze and lays a hand on her arm. She bends closer and looks her straight in the eye: "Are you ok? You seem distracted. A heavy head still? A longing heart?"
Jul 29, 2022 8:42 am
Tereze shifts her weight from one foot to the other uncomfortably and sighed wistfully, she knew she could trust her companions but it was hard to open up despite her outward bravado.

"I.." She fumbles for the words. "I think there's trouble brewing". Her eyes fail to meet Kailani's, sliding towards the cobblestones beneath her feet instead. I too visited an old family acquaintance, but.. She paused "someone 'visited' them first.". Her appearance may make more sense now - the face of someone who needed to cry, but has forgotten how and stubbornly pushes on regardless.

Tereze channels her nervous energy into adjusting the straps and buckle of her armour, making sure they're secure. "Just... keep your wits about you. Even in a town as friendly as this, there can be people who would try to undermine and defy us "

Straps fastened, Tereze takes a quick breath and straightens her posture. "Mm. Like I said, the sea air will do me good" She bottles the emotions back up. "And you're right, we'll need some supplies unless we want to be eating crusty bread for the whole voyage"
Jul 31, 2022 8:59 pm
Ardeth has been uncharacteristically all morning, looking tired and only partially eating breakfast. Occassionally a head will sneak into the bag at her side as if to check something is still here. Eagle eyed persons may spotted something hastilly wrapped in fabric.

The half-drow is only partialy listening to faelen until the name Bazzoxan draws her attention at least briefly. 'I have bery hazy memories of that place...If that is where that jewel wishes us to go...' Her hand reaches to her bag strap, unabe to rach in while its on her back.

As Tereze mentions her own acquantaience she offers a soft smile and places a hand on the other womans shoulder. 'I m..sorry to here. Is there a way we could track this person? We may have time while organsing the trip. or even delay it for a few days.'
Aug 1, 2022 8:05 am
"Well, family first, I say. I cannot see a reason why we shouldn't take some time to find out what's what." Kailani's gaze turns to the town. She does not know what happened at her friend's acquaintance, but grasps the severity of what Tereze has only hinted at. "We'll visit some merchants to stock up on a few things anyhow... and sailors, maybe other good citizens of Jigow ... maybe somebody knows something about who threatens Tereze's extended family and why. Can you tell us more about what you saw?"

Kailani looks at Tereze with serious eyes. Focused and all business.
Aug 1, 2022 8:38 am
Tereze sighs. "I have nothing to go on, they were killed about an hour before I arrived, and they were efficient. Not a sign of who might have done it"

"My family does have its fair share of enemies, like any powerful family" She adds, "That's my only suspicion"

"I... appreciate your concern" She places a hand on Kailani's shoulder. "but don't let it hold us up. We'll be free of them once we're on the water" She hoped.
Aug 10, 2022 12:41 am
And with that, the group packs up what little they have in the inn or other places in Jigow, completes any last-minute errands, says their goodbyes to the people they've met in town, and heads to the docks to find passage on a ship. There, the party finds The Coral Demon, a medium-sized fishing vessel heading out to go on a multiday fishing trip to a spot near the coastline close to Bazzaxan. The wooden figure of a leaping shark with a number of small fish in its jaws champions the bow of the ship. The ship is captained by a young, but surprisingly grizzled water genasi woman by the name of Douglaa "The Handsome". She and Kailani instantly hit it off, and before the rest of you know it, you've got free passage to the coast, provided you pull your weight doing what you can, and subtly let Douglaa win a round of the crew's nightly poker game.

The trip from Jigow's docks to the coast is close to exactly 100 miles, which means you'll have about a day or so before you reach the coast (in case there are any downtime activities you'd like to pursue), reaching the coastline the next morning. From there, it'll be about a 50 mile hike through the rocky coastline and the northern edge of the Barbed Fields, a nasty wasteland, ran asunder by the crazy magics of the Calamity.

It doesn't take long before the ship is all prepared and suddenly you're off! The Jigow skyline of rickety scaffolding and lumbering giants shrinks behind you as an endless flatness surrounds you on all sides. It's a peaceful, cloudy day at sea. The air is warm, the waves are mild...
OOC:
Feel free to grab any standard equipment at normal price before leaving Jigow. Also, the boat ride gives about a day or so of downtime, feel free to pursue a downtime activity while you're out there (goes for soises too when he gets back) And for a little character depth prompt, describe how your character feels to be out of Jigow and out on the sea with your new companions, heading off to find destiny! The ship is quiet for most of the day, the crewmembers sitting idly and chatting up the newcomers since they have not reached their fishing destination yet. Most of the crew is hanging out on the top deck, enjoying the sun's ray or each other's company when suddenly three dolphins, one on one side of the ship and two on the other, leap 10, 15, 20 feet into the air. Their bodies begin morphing in midair, and by the time they reach the deck of the ship, they have transformed into three fishl-ike humonaids. They wear very little clothes or armor, but their bright blue skin has taken an almost bark-like rigidity to it, clearly some kind of protective magic. Their faces are beautiful and elegant, but they hiss and bare their razor-like teeth with unfettered rage at everyone they can see.

"Yee be the scourges of the sea! Yer ship, yer treasure, and yer skulls are destined to decorate the sea floor!" they scream in unison at everyone.

Douglaa chuckles from the ship's helm, "Yeah, ok." She grabs a Warhammer from a rack somewhere near her.

One of the druids raises their dripping quarterstaff into the air and a mass of slippery, slimy seaweed grows up out of the floorboards around Kailani, Tereze, and Douglaa. Tereze and Douglaa are able to fight off the sudden invasion of sea grass, but the tendrils of wet plantlife hold Kailani in place.

The bard is currently in the form of a dorw, reading a book taht seems to be on current politics of the region. The changeling had constantly been changing shape through the journey, seeming nervous and jittery, before settling on the drow who seems far more relaxed.

As the druids appear she looks over her book with a disinterested look. 'Seriously? You expect us to fear those who dress like that? Her gaze then flicks to Kailani.

'Come on, you're not gonna get beaten by seaweed, are you?'

Hearing all the noise above deck, the fighter climbs the stairs and overhears the preceding words expressed. Their skulls destined to decorate the sea floor? Oh those sea dwellers! You can count on them for some good boasting.

"Your brittle bones will decorate the brow of our ship if you won't leave right away!" the noble replies in the same manner. Suddenly the shadows of the mast and the rapidly grown sea weed stick together and form a humanoid half drow sized shape right in front of Kailani, giving her cover from the druid. The shadow strikes out with a blinding flourish, while Faelan himself takes his rapier to the other attacker on deck.

In the morning, as they push off, Tereze stands on the top deck of the ship, letting the fresh sea wind rush through her hair, the air messily whipping it around as if it were flames in a blazing campfire. She always liked travelling, especially setting off - it felt like progress. She looked back at her companions and smiled to herself. It was a good bunch to be holed up with.
Tereze turns around from her sea gazing to face the dolphins, no- fish-humans? what were these things? She shakes her head and grabs her warhammer. Whatever they were - they didn't belong on this ship.

She runs towards the grey druid. But, their appearance had brought with them gallons of water spilled out on the deck and while she manages to reach her target, her slipping and sliding cost her opportunity to strike.

The druids each stomp their feet on the wet deck and bellow a feral screech. The portside druid's voice booms into wet rings of pounding air until BAM! and concussive blast erupts from around her, blasting into Faelen, Tereze, and Douglaa. Some of the floorboards around the portside druid snap and break, and the ground becomes rickety around the four of you.

Tereze and Faelen must make DEX saving throws DC12 if they choose to move on their turns to avoid stepping on broken planks and falling below deck. Just thought that would be cool lol :)

Answering the call of the starboard druid by half-climbing, half-flopping over the edge of the boat onto the deck comes a hideous crab-dolphin-serpent creature that looks like it just awoke after millennia of taking the wrong paths of evolution. With one crusty claw waving over its head, a slithering, mucus-covered tail, and a smooth belly and pair of fins, the thing tumbles and laboriously pulls itself rather quickly to be between Ardeth and Faelen.

The creature takes a swipe at Faelen... but just clanks its giant claw off his armor.

Noticing that Kailani is still entangled and easy prey while he himself is fighting on two fronts, the half-drow has to make a grave decision. He calls to the "drow"-bard: "I'll be back. Take cover from a little glamour!"

Then he vanishes.

Not really - instead of himself the Shadow he had summoned pops up in his place and vice versa. Conjouring little flames in his hand the drow warrior - now infront of his warlock friend -pures the bluish light over their opponents - and unavoidable Ardeth - to mark them for easier hits.

But the fighter has only a meager sucess as his magic just takes hold on the newly arrived creature.

Non the less he brandishes his rapier infront of the bluescale druid, while the Shadow takes its blade twice to the starboard druid, in the hope of breaking its concentration on the summoned beast. To no avail - the crab-dolphin-serpent creature still clicks its claws menacingly while shining in a wavering blue light.

Tereze staggers on the broken deck, taking a moment to secure her footing. She spits on the floor, frustrated over losing her target unless she fancied dodging through the splintered ground ahead.

Instead, she turns to the nearer druid and swings out at her, channelling some frustration into the blow. It seems to be a good strike.

As the druid recovers from defending from the strike, Tereze takes the opportunity to survey the others' progress. It seemed like a lot of eyes had laid on Faelen. With a quick flick of her free hand, she casts a light aura around them. It swirled and rotated strangely - hopefully it might be enough to redirect some strikes against them.

Blow after blow, the druids are handily defeated. With its summoner dead, the hideous creature scuttles off the side of the boat, leaving a trail of sticky slime as it goes. You all hear a kerPLUNK and a small splash of water rise above the side of the boat as it splashes back into the sea, hopefully never to be seen again, by anyone or anything ever again.

Douglaa shrugs and places her warhammer aside, "Well, that was easy, especially with you folks. You certainly can pull your weight around here." She begins hauling the druids' bodies over the side of the ship, spitting into the sea after each one.
The rest of the day passes without incident, though clouds roll over the sunny sky and the incoming horizon is growing dark, not just from the day winding down, but also from a brewing storm, likely to reach you sometime in the night or the next morning. Douglaa reassures you all that you are making good time, and that the ship will reach the shore of the Barbed Fields in the morning.

Later that night, Douglaa and her crew are playing betting games, passing around the same 50 copper from round to round. It seems likely that the only game that matters is the last one before docking, anything else will just get redistributed before they have a chance to use it. They play like this is the case too, fast and loose with the rules and generally just to have an activity to do, no real stakes.

Whether you are playing in the card games, swimming beside the boat, alone in a room, or cleaning the hull, as soon as the sun disappears beneath the horizon, a sudden crimson red hue fills the sky. Your shadows elongate and deepen. Your attention is, by instinct or magic, pulled up to the sky. From the lower floors, the crew streams onto the deck to catch a glimpse. Hanging in the sky like a watchful eye is Ruidus, flaring a mean, bright red. Faelen feels a sense of fear, panic, and hopelessness emitting from the artifact around his neck as the sight of Ruidus turns on you.

After what could seem like seconds or hours, the flare fades. Catha, the large white moon, reemerges from behind a cloud, casting white light over the waves once again. Ruidus shrinks back to its normal state, a small red dot in the sky, before being covered by a cloud.

Having spent the last few days mostly by himself, Faelan seemed a bit distant to the others. In his cabin or up in the crow's nest; his gaze was fixed on the horizon and the Rosohnian appeared to struggle with something. Maybe a decision? Or maybe he prepared himself for the things to come?

In the tranquil nights the words of the lady of the temple haunt him. What to do? What to do?

Only just at the last leg of their journey, the noble comes out of his self-imposed exile, just in time to witness the marvel Ruidus displays in the night sky. Standing between the sailors and enjoying the spectacle with wonder in his heart. This causes the surprise all the greater as the jewel around his neck floods his mind with all the negative emotions at this sight. Going completely stiff for more than a few heartbeats, the fighter wonders if this is a dire warning.

Turning to his friends, he asks visibly shaken: "What was that?" For all one knows somebody has a bit of obscure knowledge about a prophecy or something similar.

Kailani catches her breath as the rest of the crew does. A bad omen indeed. She gazes out to sea, the eternal darkness and peace below. She smells the wind. Dark work lies ahead.

The young woman then rids herself from the gloomy thoughts threatening to swallow this fine night out at sea. She shakes them off, looks around once more. Morale can decide whether a crew survives or whether it perishes...

She bangs her hands together and creates three sparkly fireflies, the magical dots flit around the others, lightheartedly drawing their attention away from the curious sky above. Kailani stomps her feet. Once. Twice. Then she starts withan old rhyme of the Water Children. She starts in Naush, then continues in the common tongue. The tune is well known amongst sailors and the Ashari claps and moves while she starts singing it. Right now they are in the bosom of the ocean, the sky and its omens can remain where they are and scare other people. The ocean will take care of them tonight and they must remember it.

Oh, we'd be alright if the wind was in our sails
Oh, we'd be alright if the wind was in our sails
Oh, we'd be alright if the wind was in our sails
And we'll all hang on behind

And we'll roll The Coral Demon along
We'll roll The Coral Demon along
We'll roll The Coral Demon along
And we'll all hang on behind

The magical bugs fly around playing on the rails, the masts and each sailor on deck. They shoot up into the sky, then explode and glitter down into the calm waters around them.

Well, a drop of Green Tear Whiskey wouldn't do us any harm
Well, a drop of Green Tear Whiskey wouldn't do us any harm
Well, a drop of Green Tear Whiskey wouldn't do us any harm
And we'll all hang on behind

And we'll roll The Coral Demon along
We'll roll The Coral Demon along
We'll roll The Coral Demon along
And we'll all hang on behind

As she feels more confident that her distraction works and the seafaring folk remember that life is there to be enjoyed while it lasts, Kailani steps up to Faelan and puts her hand on his arm. He seems terribly far away. Although she does not speak, she lets him know she is there for him, then offers him a draft of the whiskey she has brought in her little flask. He'll talk when he is ready.
Aug 30, 2022 7:10 am
Startled by Kailani's sudden, unexpected show of song and dance, Faelan observes her with a flabbergasted look on his face, until a smile steals itself in his eyes. Taking her flask thankfully, the fighter from the capital city takes a deep swig before handing it back. With a blush to his ashen grey cheeks, he asks: "Really? Green Tear Whiskey?" while smiling broadly.

Savouring the taste for a few moments, he turns to his comrades and looks what is up with them.
Aug 31, 2022 3:19 pm
Tereze stretches her arms into the air, releasing some tension in them from playing cards. She had just about managed to come out even and her back was getting stiff so she called it a day, clapping the sailor to her left on the back as she gets up.
"I hope you can do as well now without the aid of peeking at my cards!" She jokes as she lifts herself up.

It seemed her mind was at ease once again, having settled into the flow of life on a ship. She wandered up to Faelan and Kailani, her sea legs working better than they had in the fight. "You have a good set of pipes" Tereze compliments Kailani. The crew down there were lapping it up!"

She looks back beyond the rear of the ship. "Do you think we'll see them again?" She asks wistlessly. "The other competitors? I think I saw them arguing over the gold we gave them as we set off. Poor Dermot will probably get walked all over."
Sep 3, 2022 2:50 pm
At the flare Veliath's form fades away into the the comfortable form of Ardeth as the changeling stares up at the sky. As Kailani starts up a song she pulls out her lute and tries to match the beats to aid the song.

As it trails off though she looks back to the sky, searching her memory of anything similar happening before, her hand straying once more to her satchel and thing within.

With Kailani's aid, the crew shakes from their momentary stupor and gets back to drinking and playing games. And thus it continues on through the night. Though, the storm clouds festering on the horizon do come out to meet the ship at some point in the night, leading to a loud and anxious night for those not accustomed to being on the water during a light storm. The rain greets you in the morning, gentle rain that lands in the tiniest of drops, but just enough that visibility is extremely low.

The crew cast some lines and within the hour there is fresh fish served for breakfast to the entire crew. While most everyone is enjoying breakfast on the deck, a large, twisting spire of rock emerges from the fog so tall its top is not visible. The thin, smooth tower scraps the side of the boat viciously and throws it off balance. The crew drops their breakfasts and rushes into position to slow the ship down, for the shore had come sooner than expected! A few more close calls later, and the ship arrives at a dilapidated dock. A single boat slip juts out into the water, with half of its planks missing and the other rotten near to the core. It is clear that this dock is rarely used now, if it ever was.

Douglaa and the rest of the crew say their goodbyes and help you get safely onto the dock, then wait to make sure you get to land before the entire structure collapses beneath you. They shove off the boat slip and wave to you as they try to dodge the spires once again.

As soon as your foot touches land, the fog and rain evaporate from the air around you, forming a wall of fog mystifying the sea behind you, and before you sprawls miles and miles of dusty, cracked, jagged, rocky ground. Piercing out of the ground and dozens of feet in the air are more of those massive rock spikes.

Welcome, to the Barbed Fields of Xhorhas.

Astonished that nobody of their small crew seemed more intrigued by the behavior of the two celestial bodies, Faelan keeps to himself for the last day, as he had done before.

Saying goodbye to Douglaa the half-drow is more than a little happy by himself that they could leave the ship and be on solid ground again. As he gets out of the narrow boat, he plants his feet in the soil and breathes in the moist of the continent. Barbed fields it is. On the other side of this fields stands his hometown. Proud and delightful Rosohna, the reborne metropolis with its everlasting twilight and lanterns beyond count.

Coming up the shore, the noble is careful where to place his steps, before coming to a halt. Looking at his friends, he asks with a smile: "Does anybody know the way to Bazzoxan?"
Sep 17, 2022 5:50 pm
"Hmmm..." KAilani shields her eyes from the sun with one hand and turns in a circular motion. Then she stops and points: "Let us go South." She shoulders her pack and starts walking.
Sep 18, 2022 6:57 am
Tereze laughs to herself. They had traveled the whole way here and hasn't planned this far ahead. "Well as long as it's not that way", She chuckles pointing back across the water.

"Perhaps we'll find a settlement where we can pick up a local map or guide" . Tereze picks up her bags and begins following Kailani
Sep 18, 2022 6:25 pm
Still grinning the warrior nods and adds in a wry tone of voice: "South sounds good enough." while shouldering his field pack. "Yeah, a settlement would be nice. It should take us no longer than a day or two to reach Bazzoxan."

Turning around one last time, the half-drow looks back at the sea and wonders if their competitors from Jigow would cross their path again. Some feeling tells him that their rivalry isn't quiet over yet.

As a trained fighter Faelan takes the lead and keeps his eyes open for anything out of the normal. This are the infamous Barbed Fields and their brief journey through a tiny part of them has the potential to become very serious. Better to keep their eyes open.
Sep 18, 2022 11:07 pm
The group continues traveling in a south-southwest direction towards Bazzoxan. While the outpost of a city is not visible on the horizon yet, there are plenty of other sights to behold in this wasteland. Occasionally, shadows pass over you of large, feral-looking birds of prey and dive behind pillars and stones so as not to be seen. Once, the ground trembles and shifts slightly beneath your feet, giving the feeling that somewhere below you, something is tunneling or burrowing its way through the earth. The hulking figures of groups of sometimes mammoths, sometimes Udaaks (demonic monstrosities that have roamed the Barbed Fields since the Calamity) wander and meander far off in the distance, searching for their next meal.

These lands might be a desolate wasteland, but they are certainly not dead.

While staying on course is rather easy, the landscape being full of noticeable landmarks with high-distance visibility, it is clear that there is no established path through these lands. But every time the group begins to stray from their course, Faelen feels a pull in the correct direction, coming from Jewel.
It's nearly dusk on the first day of travel when the group spots a chaotic scene on the ground up ahead of them. From a distance, it is clear that there are two large things on the ground, with several smaller shapes strewn around them. One of the larger shapes looks like it may be some kind of crashed, broken carriage, while the other shape looks more organic, but it's hard to tell the nature of it. There are glints beaming from some of the smaller shapes, giving the impression of metallic skin or armor. There is no discernable movement in the scene, saving for the gentle flapping of fabric in the wind.
OOC:
I have updated this map to have markers for the drop-off point and Bazzoxan now, what would you like to do?

Becoming aware to the tug in his head, Faelan informs the others: "The Jewel requires us to follow this path." when they are at a crossroad, or are uncertain where to head next. "An odd sensation." he confesses to them after a short while. Musing what the jewel could be he asks: "Do you think it is gift from the betrayer gods?"

As the day comes to an end, the small circle of friends stops to look at the ground up ahead of them. Putting up his hood over his snow-white hair, the warrior falls into a crouch and starts to sneak forward. Maybe take a look without being seen overs some wisdom how to proceed further?

The group slowly and quietly makes their way towards the wreckage in the path before them. Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that the large non-carriage shape on the ground is not an udaak, but rather some other kind of large, bipedal, semi-humanoid, toad-like demon. The figure is missing a neck, and its lower jaw replaces its collarbones. Boils, blisters, and bone-like spikes protrude from its leathery flesh, which is carved up in dozens of deep slash marks. Some of the smaller figures around the demon and carriage, among them drow, goblins, and tieflings, are clearly Aurora Watch soldiers, whose shiny, dented silver armor is stained in blood and dirt. But others are dressed in leathers and simple traveler's clothes.

Just before reaching the wreckage, two small, haggard-looking birds swoop down and land atop one of the pillars of stone jutting out of the ground. They take one look at you, screech at the top of their lungs, and flitter down to start picking at the demon's body.

There's a moment of silence, before the demon's body starts limply shifting. Its head and limbs begin flipping over when whispers of cackles and chitters grow to screeches as suddenly two winged shadows and two impish devils dart from underneath the demon's body as the two small birds take off in a hooty panic.

The quasits cackle and become invisible, the shadow demons howl and reach towards you, "SOULS!? MUST CONSUME SOULLLLS!!"

They take swipes at Faelen, but the blaring sun greatly hinders their vision.

As she calls for the source of her unique energy Kailani instantly feels a reluctance from this place. She focuses on the sea they have left behind, but finds it strenuous to conjure up enough aquatic power around her - it is almost as if the desert swallows or blocks her connection to the water. She digs deepa and wills the energy to appear. It takes the form of a tentacle, but it remains void of colour and texture - almost translucent. Kailani ignores its state and relies on the infinite source to come to her in this time of peril. And so it does.

Like a wave crashes on the sandy shore, the energy crashes into the woman. She sends it onwards as a blast that cuts right through the ungodly beast rushing towards her friends. The tentacle in unison strikes at the creature in front of it.

The two quasits reappear as they leap onto either side of Kailani, trying to bite and scratch into her flesh. One of them can't get around her leather armor and graceful movements, but the other one manages to sink its teeth into her forearm. A pulse of poison and nausea washes over her, but she shakes it off before it gets too bad.

Just then, Faelen and Ardeth release their spells to fight their powers of invisibility. Kailani and one of the quasits are able to dodge out of the way of the spell's effects, but the other quasit is now glowing a soft hue, illuminating and telegraphing its every move. (Advantage on attacks against Left Quasit)

The shadow demons roar and surround Tereze. The left one swings a lazy swing, just enough to her Tereze's attention so that the right one can sneak in and deliver a draining claw that passes right through her armor like a ghost and slashes her skin below it. It laughs and retorts, "NOT WITHOUT A TASTE OF YOUR SOUL, DELICIOUSSSS...."

Sha manages to shake it off rather ungracefully, then overcomes a sudden urge to heave and feels a surge of heat all over. Kailani thinks of the ocean and her guardian spirit and braces herself with the coolness of a deep water trench, thus managing to expell the foul poison from her body.

From the corner of her eye, Kailani sees energy surging towards her - she is in the way of her friends' attacks! However clumsy she freed herself earlier - the young woman slides into a motion almost liquid and disappears in time to avoid the hit - only to reappear on the other side of the encounter. Tereze swings her warhammer at the single remaining shadow demon, intending to banish it into oblivion.

However, the beast is too quick and moves out of the way. Tereze's hammer smashes into the ground dislodging a huge chunk of earth.

"The next one won't miss demon!"

The quasits and the injured shadow demon are easily cut down in a round of efficient and effective attacks by the party. The shadow demon's face morphs from hunger-driven demonic howling to... slightly offended? at Veliath's mockery. "WHAT? NO! IT IS YOU WHO ARE ALREADY DEAD!"

Rather than play this out til the end (cuz let's face it, he has disadvantage on all attacks now so isn't much of a threat, but has a healthy sack of 62 hit points left), go ahead and describe in flavor how each of you adds to the fight as you come together to defeat this demon :)

Shadow Demon Attack on Tereze - (1d20)

After his blade tasted the blood of the demons, there is no holding back for Faelan. His Shadow and he himself come at the shining shadow creature from two sides and the noble's rapier bites like an enraged snake into the centre of their foe. Drawing a feeble attack from the outsider, Faelan raises his shield and quickly deflects the blow to the side, while making good use of the opening and plunges his steel in once more.

Finally as the group stands amidst the fallen demons, the half-drow smiles a satisfied smile and asks: "Is everybody okay?" Looking at his friends he makes sure all of them got through the encounter without lasting injuries.

Cleaning his blade wit a piece of cloth before sheating it, the Rosohnian takes a look around. Is this a patrol of the Aurora Watch that lies slain in between the demon corpses? And the big one? What is that? Trying to find some clues on what happened here. And why?

Faelen assesses the scene and comes to the conclusion that, because of the mix of corpses adorning heavy armor and regular traveling clothes, this seems to have been an attack on a traveling merchant or important shipment that was being escorted by a small force of the Aurora Watch. There are tracks similar in size and gait as the dead monster leading away from the scene, implying that there were more at the attack, and the Aurora's Watch was only able to slay one before the last of their ranks fell. But, whatever that thing is, all Faelen knows is that it sure is ugly.

Each of the Aurora's Watch members wears heavy armor and wields shields and longswords, as well as some kind of faintly-magic necklace around their neck, like some kind of identification. Inside the shattered wagon, Faelen finds the remains of broken wooden crates and a metallic lockbox, but all of their contents have been taken, presumably by the attacking demons.

"I feel the distance to the ocean." Kailani stares into the direction of the water for a moment, before she helps looking for clues. As she has grown up among pirates, looking more closely at the fallen, checking for valuable or personal items, comes natural. Waste not, want not. "We should really be more careful and aware of our surroundings." The woman does not talk to anybody in particular, as she plops down and starts drawing lines into the sand. "This might take a breath."

Tereze stomps about on the demons, making damn sure they're dead and not coming back.

"These folk did not deserve to die like this" She says sullenly as she moves to tidy up the bodies, making them seem as if they were intentionally at everlasting rest, not carelessly strewn around the ground by the demons.

She says a few quiet words for each of them.
Oct 11, 2022 1:03 pm
Helping Tereze to arrange the bodies, Faelan collects the small medallions and puts them in a small satchel. "Light be with you." he honors the dead a last time in hope of a frictionless rebirth through the light of the Luxon.

As there seems nothing else to be done or collected, the fighter proposes a hour of rest before they contiune their journey.
Oct 12, 2022 10:50 pm
Kailani takes a look at the large, demonic corpse, and realizes what it was. A hezrou. Hezrous serve as foot soldiers in the demonic hordes of the Abyss. Although physically powerful, they are weak-minded and hezrous can easily be duped into sacrificing themselves by more powerful demons.
[ +- ] Hezrou
From the sky, Kailani's familiar, a jolly-looking, deep-sea-blue manta ray that flies through the air as if gliding through water, can spot the tracks of the other demons lumbering off into the not-so-far-off distance. Once the tracks leave the chaotic scene, it's clear to see why they won this scuffle: there were at least 4 of them, and something larger than them, that survived.

The group respectfully gathers the bodies of the fallen Aurora Watch soldiers and the travelers accompanying them, and performs a funeral rite. Tereze can feel that though they were killed in chaos by beings of pure chaos, their souls are now at rest. Faelen collects the Aurora Watch soldiers' identification necklaces and notiies the magic within them: when a member of the Kryn Dysnaty holds it, the names on the chain reveals itself to the holder, likely a defense tactic against demons and devils, and the Dwendalian Empire.

The group takes an hour or so to catch their breath, then continues on.
Oct 12, 2022 11:01 pm
The group continues their trek southwest toward Bazzoxan into the evening. Dodging the shadows of birds above and the grumblings of something in the dirt below, it is an otherwise uneventful couple of hours. The sun begins to set on the dry, cloudless horizon. The sky refuses to offer any beauty as it jumps straight from a dull, dust-tinted blue to nighttime black.

The group finds a safe-ish spot to hunker down for the night, a small crevice or cave that offers protection and where a small fire wouldn't be spotted. The wastelands allow you to bed down, but at some point in the night, you are all awakened by the quiet, hollow, distanced thudding of drums, and guttural chanting in tongues that defy the label 'language'.
OOC:

Coming up from his resting position, Faealan asks his friends if anybody knows anything about this. As nobody seems to, the half-drow puts his rapier back into its sheet and asks: "Do we wanna know what this is, or do we keep quiet and hope for the best?" Both ways have their merits and flaws. He himself would be interested to find out, even if it is the more dangerous route.
Oct 14, 2022 11:01 am
Tereze wakes up from her snoring with a start. "Ugh... I've been having the worst dreams... Like something was thumping on my head... I can still hear it.. She holds her head for a moment to collect herself, then realises her companions are all looking towards the noise. It wasn't in her head at all!

"I vote we check it out. Won't be able to go back to sleep otherwise. For what's left of the night anyway"
Oct 14, 2022 5:52 pm
Kailani sends out a bit of her unworldly energy and finds a small resonance that is somehow connected to herself. She imagines a string connecting her to the other presence and gives it a good mental tug. This she has not done often before and it does not yet feel wholly natural to the sea-faring woman, but the presence answers her call and soon after, when she looks up into the night sky, some of the stars seem to flicker. Only it is not their light that is unsteady, it is the manta's shadow obscuring them as it flies by. It circles once, twice then darts off into the direction of the rhythmic sounds. Whether war meeting or desert dance off - soon they would know what they are dealing with.

"I have send Mizu. Maybe she can help us make sense of this without us having to provoke another fight. Not that I would mind, but there are other tasks at hand, don't you think?"

Mizu the Flying Manta Ray ascends out of the cave to a chilling sight. The sky is still dark, but illuminating the area are spider web-like patterns of bright, pulsing purple light shining up from the ground which, when seen from above, form into some kind of ritualistic runes. There is a small altar placed at the mouth of the cave, soaked and dripping in some kind of thick substance. The outsides of the cave have shifted: the tall barbs of rock and stone that dotted the landscape outside have moved and shuffled, as if they had played a game of duck duck goose, or as if the cave decided to find a new place to burrow itself in. The drums and chanting seem to be coming from the altar, but there are no figures, whether humanoid, demonic, or otherwise, anywhere in sight. Besides the flaring inscriptions in the stone and dirt of the ground outside, there is no movement.
Oct 21, 2022 6:14 am
After Kailani told them what Mizu had seen, Faelan looks clueless at his friends. Moving caves? Shifted landscape? Had he ever heard of this phaenomenon before?

As nobody seems to find the interest or strength in her heart, the fighter sighs and gingerly sneaks to the entrance to look at the still chanting altar.

Faelen and Kailani, with Mizu in tow, head up to the surface of the cave, where the altar still sits menacingly, though the chanting begins to subside. From a distance, they study the altar and the runic lines illuminating the ground. The altar appears to be a small wooden table covered in a thick, matted cloth dripping with a dark red blood-like liquid and covered in cobwebs. Below the altar are some slowly fading magic circles, as if it were put here using a summoning circle. On top of the altar lies, still twitching, an enormous dying spider. The lack of tracks or nearby movement leads them to believe that it was not any kind of creature that did this. But rather that the scrambling of the landscape is some kind of curse upon the region. And furthermore, the web-like patterns of the lines in the ground and the details of the altar lend to the idea that this is all some form of threat or show of power from a powerful entity, and leans heavily on the motifs of Lolth, the Spider Queen.

Not liking what the have found, Faelan trades an unhappy glance with Kailani. This is all so strange to him. The vision after he took up the magic jewel in Jigow, the darkening of the moon and now this. The Luxon may grant him the wisdom of his ancestors he sends a silent prayer into Exandria. Taking away his hand of the pomel of his sword, the Rhosanian rubs the bridge of his nose and lets out a sigh that speaks of weariness.

If his is just a message it is an ostentatious one. Not to be missed. Looking up at the mouth of the cave the half-drow looks for the other two women. What would be their conclusions of this "warning" he ponders for a heartbeat. They seem to have enjoyed different kinds of learning about the cosmos, the gods and history.

As nothing seems to indicate an immediate attack, the noble climbs back up to his resting place and hopes that it will stay this way until the sun kisses the horizon. Then he will be on his way. Leaving this place as fast as possible.

The last words of the demon to Veliath as it was slain seem to have affected at least the drowp perrsona, if not the changling that bore her face, and as he fell they shifted back to Ardeth, falling into reflective thought. It wass probably trying to just be clever but the changling had found some of their pasts did not like to be reminded they had in fact died before. Veliath in particular was often quite grumpy she was closer to a memory or a spirit brought on by the changelings powers than a true person.

-------

As the others awake to drums the changeling shifts to the goliath seen at the arm wrestling, and other moments the group is aware of danger. As Kailani and Faelen venture to investigate she stays with Kailani, unless the cleric also moves forward. Leaving one by themselves here was dangerous.

What is it, do we need to leave?' She asks in a gravley voice as the pair come back, already ready t start packing to leave.
Oct 26, 2022 6:24 pm
Kailani tells of what she and Faelen have seen and of what she thinks it means. It is a warning and an attempt to sway them to abandon their quest. "I do not think we are in immediate danger here, so we could stay the rest of the night and leave after breakfast. I left Mizu to guard the entrance of the cave. She should warn us of any trouble coming our way." The woman stands firmly with her arms crossed in front of her. Kailani seems worried.
"We could leave now, if you prefer. But I am not certain what the night might have in store at a place such as this."
She waits for the others to state their opinion.
Oct 30, 2022 4:43 pm
"Bah! Warnings like that are for cowards who can't tell you themselves!" Tereze claims confidently. "We should keep watch for any sneaky attempts to catch us off guard, but we're much more of a challenge than the average traveler"
Nov 1, 2022 10:03 am
"Alright, then it's settled. Let us try and find some rest now. We'll leave at first light." Kailani leaves Mizu near the cave entrance to guard their sleep. Should anybody or anything unwanted try to enter, she trusts the elegant flyer to warn them in time.
Nov 5, 2022 6:31 pm
The group keeps a wary eye on the entrance to the cave as they attempt to sleep through the rest of the night. The chanting can occasionally be heard here and there, but it never rises to more than a whisper, enough to remind you of its presence just to dissipate again.

Morning arrives, signaled by the intense rays beaming into the cave entrance. The party packs up their belongings and leaves the cave. The shrine is still there in the morning, though the thick red liquid coating it has mostly dried, the large spider upon it has shriveled and decayed, and the lines in the surrounding ground are no more than pencil traces.

The group continues on in the direction of their destination: the Dynasty outpost of Bazzoxan. The land continues just as it was the day before: harsh and full of disparate life, though calling some of the things moving around this wasteland "alive" was generous. But eventually, the group comes across a faint but established path in the sandstone and dirt ground, leading in the direction you mean to be going.

You follow the path for a while, and a short time later see up ahead of you some figure, huddled around a small campfire just off the path...
OOC:
I believe introductions are in order... :)
Nov 5, 2022 10:00 pm
The figure was named Auras a noble human woman who stood just shy of 6 feet. tall even among her clan and home. she was just beginning to stand casting a spell known commonly as thaumaturgy as music started playing in the air with no discernable source. as she began dancing and spining around her fire, her blue hair a mix of sky blue and deep dark ocean blue shaking and twirling with her movements. the song she started singing seemed sad yet hopeful about a friend who was gone without goodbyes being said and how they longed to see them again. how they came up from darkness but without them every day since has been in shadow.

it was after the dancing was coming to a close that auras saw she had a small audience stopping mid twirl and stumbled a little as she stopped suddenly . "oh I uh didn't know I had company." she said as she looked beyond embarrassed. as she looked down. "I suppose I looked strange and a little funny." she said sheepishly "i am auras and who might you find folks be?"

After a night not as restful as one might hope, Faelan leads the party further down south through the barbed fields. The patrol from the day before is still fresh in his mind and so he stays even more vigilant and cautious for this part of their journey than the Rhosonian normally does.

As they reach the campsite of the blue haired woman, he stops a about ten meters before reaching her fire and shows his empty hands as a sign of peace and readiness to talk. With a smile on his dark lips, the half-drow puts a strand of loose white hair behind his slightly pointed ear as he replies: "We didn't know that we would meet someone dancing around a nice fire. So" and his smile broadens a bit: "we are a equally surprised."

Raising his hand in a formal greeting he continues: "My name is Faelan Hythenos. Pleased to make your acquaintance - Auras ... of?" Watching out if the woman reacts to the name of one of the few noble houses ruling this realm all of them are at the moment, the Kryn Dynasty, the fighter is a bit suspicious to find a lonely human in this empty, dangerous lands. Maybe a spy from the Dwendalian Empire?
Nov 6, 2022 2:18 pm
"Hythenos? you are of den Hythenos of the kryn dynasty?" auras then started rambling quoting dates and some well known important historical events of the dynasty as if she answering a pop quiz. before snapping out of it. "sorry about the rambling my mother had a thing for what she called pop quiz and would test my historical knowledge and i slip into that mode when I get nervous or embarrassed...." auras started gathering her things. on closer inspection, you notice she has feathers and all manner of trinkets and worthless baubles in her hair and on her walking stick as well as on some of her clothes. "you may be aware of my mother she is a great historian and sage on matters of history. our allies at the cobalt soul have been a boon to us in that endeavor." when a package slipped from her pack as she was lifting it up, that looked like it was wrapped by a young child. tho auras were obviously barely not a day older than 20 years old. the look on auras face was fear "oh no oh no..." as she grabbed it and started inspecting the package "please please still work" as she gently opened the wrapping propping open a lid before a music box started playing auras breathed a sigh of relief "oh thank luxon." before rewrapping it exactly as it was before and gently putting the package back. "sorry that is a gift for a friend. I was supposed t give it to her some time ago. never got the chance she left my hometown suddenly the year before my adulthood.

Auras's solid white eyes started watering "I had beautiful blue eyes then but she was a light shining in the darkness. auras then pulled out a piece of paper showing a realistic drawing her and her friend her first love a half orc and water genasi. "this picture was done by old mr clocks. he really was an artist. but if you saw her right now you could see how kind and wonderful she was. one day we will meet again." auras then put the picture away "I'm actually supposed to go to this temple for a man named Alyxian he requires my aid though i know not what i am supposed to do. still, I can not ignore a cry for help. he asked from the heart so I will answer from the heart. and do all I can to aid him." auras then was ready to leave putting out her fire last. "shall we travel together? there is strength in numbers and I have been horribly delayed so far."
Nov 6, 2022 4:49 pm
Kailani finds the tall, slender figure a welcome interruption of the dreary landscape they have been wandering since morning. Her movements seem so unburdened and light, it does not seem to quite fit in here.

The air has been heated by the sun's unforgiving rays and the seafaring woman has been chewing on a root not unlike ginger to rid herself from a pulsating headache. The group has been silent for most of the time, some of the companions focused on their immediate surroundings, some seem lost in their own thoughts. The wasteland is hard to cross and without many vistas to inspire hope. It is almost as if this land does not want any visitors.

Faelan is the first to greet the stranger. He does so in a formal manner, Kailani hasn't seen from him in a while. She peeks around his shoulders and gives the woman a once-over. She likes how the ornaments make the girl's blue hair sparkle. Kailani closes the distance and crouches down close to the fire. While inspecting the camp site, she looks for indications of magic. After last night anything might be possible. The girl - Auras - starts babbling and Kailani wonders...The music box is rescued and inspected while Kailani gets up and stands close to Auras side. She then lifts an index finger and pokes her in the shoulder twice. "Just making sure." she says and winks.

She turns on one heel and walks closer to her friends, while Auras invites herself to their group. "Who then tells you what you are supposed to do and to what end?" Kailani looks at her with a cheeky grin. "I do not think you are another mirage. Hm. How can one ask you from the heart? Are you a demon , or a spy, maybe?" Her demeanor is friendly and curious.

Grana

After the ambush and the night in the cave it was clear the changeling was on guard. Rather than the cheerful Ardeth Dancing around and chatting everyone's ear off and occasionally shifting forms for others to give their insight, the bards form was static for their walk as the Goliath woman. Grana she'd have said her name was while like this, and whie she offered the group a couple of surprisingly soft smiles it was clear she was edge and watching out for danger.

As the others introduce themselves to the stranger she hangs back, still wary for another attack. When she starts talking about historians and the colbalt soul briefly the changeling's form wavers shrinking to the Ardeth, eager to talk about facts and stories, before snapping back to the cautious goliath.

'A pleasure to meet another person out here Auras. You can call me Grana right now. I have other names at times, they'll probably be happy to explain later. ' Her words are curt as she looks the stranger over looking for weaponry or any sign of deception.
Nov 7, 2022 4:48 pm
Tereze cautiously introduces herself. She's on guard and her demeanour doesn't hide it. Her pauldroned shoulders are tense and she stands wide-legged as if to assert dominance on the situation.

"It isn't safe to be out here alone" she says bluntly, a small fang glinting from the side of her mouth. She looks up at the sky, which had changed colour all along their day's walk. "You're either brave or stupid, but by the two moons I won't turn down a genuine request for guidance, especially as we're headed that direction anyway"

"Tereze" She introduces herself and her shoulder appear to lower as she assesses this person wasn't an immediate threat. Then, bluntly again adds, "Can you fight?". The dancing they had walked in on hadn't set Tereze's expectations very high, but appearances could be deceiving. Would this 'Auras' be dragging them down, or helping them out if they met trouble on the road?
Nov 7, 2022 5:35 pm
Auras cocked her head at the pokeing "not sure if I should be offended at being considered a mirage or not." she then looks at grana and tereze "im sure the pleasure is all mine. looks like you folks have been through a rough journey if it not too bold to say." at the question of fighting arose Auras again cocked her head to the side. "what an interesting question. tho I'm sure i haven't put on the best impression of my fighting skills I wouldn't be out here if I couldn't but i prefer to avoid fighting when possible it only leads to misery." auras pulled out her diary and opened it taking pencil from her hair and started jotting everyone names down plus her observations of them as a group and her first impression of them as individuals. for Faelan Hythenos she jotted down his name and noted he seemed polite and nice.

Kailani seems care free and a little lacking in seriousness also thinks i am a demon or spy. must find out what gives them this impression. i stick out like a sour thumb. note i would be a terrible person for spying

Grana seems nice though on the cautious side of things. says she has other names and personalities. looking forward to meeting them she sounds fascinating note must try not be a bother to her. looks like she and her friends have been through hell

tereze seems to also be cautious and very blunt has a small fang looks cute. must show her my fighting skills if possible tho i detest fighting bodies lead to problems that more trouble than they are worth. the group looks like it has been through hell and worse. hopefully, I can provide assistance and not be dead weight. Final note i keep hoping to meet my old friend i know she is out there somewhere. luxon please keep her safe. i hope she has not forgotten me for I keep dreaming of her." auras finished her writing "right then best not linger here, shall we go?"

oh right sorry, well to be perfectly honest I'm not sure. I can only hope i can get more information when I get there. as for the asking and answering from the heart it a little more philosophical or metaphorical saying. to me if you ask with sincerity you will be answered with sincerity. leats that be my interpretation of it. though yours may be different than mine. auras smiled then said an inquisitive mind is a healthy mind. as my mother would say.

Inclining his head for a second in recognition that this is correct, Faelan lifts an eyebrow in surprise as Auras doesn't stop speaking and rambles on about the history of his house. The smile on his face changes from surprised to flattered and then to bemused. "Very good." he commends the blue haired woman and even claps in his empty hands as a gesture of appreciation.

"Your mother is in the Cobalt Soul as well?" he asks curiously after a moment. The Order of learned monks is famous beyound the borders of the empire. "And you?" the half-drow inquires, again a bit suspicious, because he had never imagined meeting someone of them inside the Dynasty.

Noticing for the first time the solid white eyes of their interlocutor, the noble closes a few steps in to gain a better look, as the strange woman seems occupied with her wrapped music box. But he stops abruptly as she mentions Alyxian.

"Yes. Maybe we should travel a bit together..." Faelan muses aloud, while seeming in deep thoughts. Looking at the newcomer for a moment longer than fashionable before performing an inviting gesture back to the road in the direction of Bazzoxan.

All of this couldn't be a coincidence.

auras half smiles. I was on my way getting prepared to join their ranks when this request came in so it is on pause for the moment. auras was no simpleton, she noticed faelan's reaction to the name. he and possibly his group knew more than they let on and put on a smile. "it would certainly be nice to have someone to talk to on the road at least.

Tereze nods in approval and chuckles "You'll fit right in then. We are not tavern brawlers here.".

Tereze had no doubts that there would be talking on the road, Auras could probably manage that single handedly. She still felt a little wary though, not for sake of ill intent, but the distinct feeling that Auras may not be the best at keeping secrets.

"Let's open a bottle of red at out next camp, to welcome our new traveling companion" She suggests, a sign of good faith.
Nov 9, 2022 7:10 pm
"oh, a red sounds lovely. let us go then so we may enjoy each other company" Auras smiled as he made sure she was all ready to hit the road. "let us be off on our greatest adventure!" she cheered and started humming a tune as they walked.
