Hello and welcome everyone! We will use this thread to talk about characters, their connections, etc.
Feel free to post to get the ball rolling: your thoughts on what would you like to play or anything related!

Here is the Rulebook for those who need it. Please let me know once you all have it - I prefer not to leave these things hanging for too long.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I bought a PDF the moment I read the interest check, so uhm... I have my copy! :')

(To be fair it was lingering on my wishlist for ages - I just needed an excuse to get it once and for all!)

I have some loose ideas in my brain after reading it. I really like the fact that we involve the other players in the creation of our character, linking them to our backstory and so on. Really neat idea!

Ahh yes, I completely get what you are getting at! Especially with Heart, where every single class oozes with style!

I'm personally opting for the combo of Penitent + Vermissian Knight! I love the archetype of a knight being forced to fulfill an impossible quest to make amends.

The idea I have is that my character was part of a charity organisation running vital food and supply drops in the lower regions of Spire and the City Beneath, since I imagine food is scarce for drow, even moreso in a nightmare realm. My character was an escort for food runners for a long time, working all the way up to a cozy administrator job... Before he got caught slipping extra foodstuffs to his own husband and adopted children. Having been caught out, he has two options:
1) Have his family fully cut off from any rations or food and see them starve to death.

2) Venture down into the depths beneath to solve the hunger down there by making connections and doing delves, or making discoveries that could truly help havens down there. Maybe even find a way to do farming down there or a magical, infinite food source?

I'm envisioning my character as someone who is deeply human in his failings, as why wouldn't you want to make sure your own family is fed enough rather than doling out scarce rations? So now he's paying the price for that and possibly perishing down in the depths.

Character Concept: An Aelfir Cleaver (Enlightenment Calling) who worships the Old Gods, delving deep into the Heart in hopes of finding a divine secret that can be used to overthrow the Solar Pantheon. Her repeated Hunts have left their mark, and she has become attuned to the Heart's pulse. Contrary to appearances, she's pretty light-hearted and cordial - if brutal - and returns to Derelictus often to enjoy the company of others and the occasional ice bath.

Eats-Kills-All is her name, and this Delve is a divine mission for her. She's used to not being understood and tends not to pry into the affairs of others - after all, they might not be as dedicated as she is in her personal Crusade.

Enlightenment Calling Questions

- Choose another player character. You know they’re hiding secrets from you – why do you suspect they’re doing this?

I'm currently conceptualizing a Penitent character as well, though paired with the Deep Apiarist class. That said, would anyone be uncomfortable with a backstory involving child abandonment and implied death? Not planning to make it gratuitous, but centered more around the character's grief and regret.

No issue on my end!

My hard lines would be child torture. Veils when it comes to sexual assault.

Sorry for a post so soon after, but I've just settled on a Drow Vermissian Knight Penitent known as Sylfast The Selfish.. So if anyone needs a tanky steam engine on legs (warning: don't 'choo choo' at him, he'll be very sad), I'm your guy! I'd like to play more of a gruff character so I might not be suited for social encounters all that much, so someone who's a Face of the party could complement my character well!

@jollycooperative Love your concept already! If I could make a suggestion for the questions of your Calling - what if your character suspects Sylfast to know some train networks leading into shrines and temples of the Old Gods, but he keeps it secret since he looks like he doesn't trust you yet? Could be an interesting dynamic to begin the game with, if you'd be up for it!

In turn, maybe your character saw mine flogging some hungry inhabitants of Derelictus to get them away from their rations, claiming that it's 'not for them' but obviously seeing that it's a bald-faced lie?

That sounds like a cool idea to me! After all, the Heart and the Vermissian line contain so many terminals, who's to say that one of them might not contain the secrets of the Old Gods?

Eats-Kills-All is a very discerning person who sees the truth of matters fairly quickly, so whatever Sylfast was trying to hide might have been discovered... I'm willing to take that if it's alright with you.

Edit: I forgot to say, I personally don't need Veils or Lines, but am willing to accommodate any.

I checked the rules a bit. For the Skald, is it a class from a supplement to this game rules? If, so, might I see it?

I don't have any exact lines or veils. I'll have the others specify them.
I don't mind body horror and "corruption of personality". I'm used to horror rp games, but not sure if anyone is irl uncomfortable with certain "worse scenario" type of events.

Background

1. Wesser sold one child to raise another. Brave Dorian he traded for a fistful of coin – a pittance, a fortune, a month’s scrapings to feed and shelter two. Sweet Tobias he pressed hard against his breast, nails biting skin as he made now-only-son turn away from daughter-no-more.

2. Wesser walked into an empty home. The door left ajar, the pantry plundered. Pinned above the cold dead hearth was a note, a brother’s vow to save his sister. He knew before starting how his search would end. The desert was not kind, and swallowed bones as easily as water.

3. Wesser saw the caravan again. He crossed a nomad who had his eyes. A stranger stared back and shouted at him in a foreign tongue. He moved to embrace her. She had him beaten but refused him death. He fled stumbling, gibbering, sobbing into the city beneath.

4. Wesser wandered unseeing through tunnels and halls, blinded by grief and guilt. He ate what he found, slept where he tired, lived as an animal in the dirt. Then he found the Hive, or It found him, and It moulded him back into a man. Not whole, broken, but a man. The drone in his ears could almost drown out guilt, the crawling in his chest could fill up its hollow shell, and the bees could in their own way be as children to him again.

@jollycooperative, I think my character could have some relation with yours.

I am also an Aelfir, though I was a member of the upper-class until I'm banished. I might have some knowledge that may interest your Cleaver.

One of my trinket/keepsake is a holy symbol of the old gods. That could have some connection with you too.

I could potentially be either the PC that helps you, or someone that hides a secret from you.

@seifi, can I select from the list my ancestry trinkets instead of rolling for it? Or maybe decide it myself?

Edit: I think I could add what is reasonable enough as background Misc equipment. It's ok I think.
