Mission 1.3: Black Party Clean Up

Sep 14, 2022 3:17 am
Oddball sits alone about to have his meal. He heard rumours from others that the team that was sent out about a day ago is finally back. Something about needing to be decontaminated because The Face is full of fungus, or something. As a group of people enter the place, everyone seem to watch them as they recognise who they are...

OOC:
Matsuki will surely want to sleep and recover. Can we assume that it's the next day?
Also she will buy a medkit and a reinforced vacsuit. She will also get her sniper rifle repaired. She will pocket the rest of the money for now
Sep 15, 2022 3:33 am
OOC:
Sure, can say it's a new day for you guys. The skies on planet Mersk is full of smog clouds, and the sun is at most a white disk in the dark sky. I could have made it harder to drive at night, but I'll not be that mean for now.

So when you have a long rest, you gain back all lost HP. If HP was full, then restore 1d6 of an attribute. If you want to recover everything, then it shall be a full week of rest. You all can decide to rest for a week then meet with Oddball just in time. But note that something might happen during that time.
Sep 17, 2022 10:37 am
OOC:
In the rules it states that willpower is recovered if you rest and engage with your personal item. Does that mean that willpower is full again after a day of rest?
For now I'd be for resting just a night. How about you @FlyingSucculent ?
Sep 17, 2022 10:48 am
OOC:
Just waiting for you to decide on the timing before posting next action.
Sep 19, 2022 11:56 am
OOC:
Sorry for the delay! I temporarily can't check the book, so I hope it's alright if I do some shopping later.
And I'd also like to rest only for a night for now - with personal item heal, if possible. My current Willpower is 2. :'D
As Nikolai enters the canteen, he offers a warning glare to the hall at large and then instinctively pulls on his collar, making the synthetic fur on it bristle. This sudden attention caused by the quickly spreading rumours about the expedition is deeply unwelcome by Wolf, and he already had to deal with the decontamination crew and way too many of his own colleagues eager to hear about their venture. He knew the station life was uneventful, so of course people would jump on the opportunity - but he'd much rather go back to his peaceful, non-socially-demanding job of an electrician.

He probably didn't help the situation by sticking with Matsuki, but she seemed like a pleasant - and not too talkative, - person, and he was interested in perhaps working with her further. Unfortunately this also meant giving up his preferred dining routine of enjoying his meals alone, since they agreed to catch up here later; but hopefully his demeanor will at least discourage anyone from pestering them.

"Is there a soda machine anywhere?" Nikolai looks around the dining hall with mild interest, having avoided visiting it most of the time. Doesn't seem like it changed much, but who knows, maybe they finally have something to his taste...
Sep 19, 2022 5:37 pm
I think they have a fountain with this Brawndo-stuff over there. Matsuki says in a bored tone and points at a bright green soda dispenser. In fact she's not bored but rather extremely tired. The expedition strained her both physically and mentally.
She takes a portion of today's menu, some strange yellow dessert creme and sits down at the least crowded table. Only one man is sitting there. He seems to be very... relaxed you guess and smells of.... herbs?
Sep 19, 2022 7:22 pm
Oddball finds amusing how people react to celebrities, actually, he finds amusing the fact that celebrities exist! For him, we are all people, some of the good and gentle, others hard working, and a few others not very good people... But well, these new ones sitting seem nice.
"Hi y'all, you look like you haven't slept in a week, haha, do you want some apples? They are good for that you know?"
He takes a couple of the four apples he has on his tray and give one to each.
"Yeah, these are niiiice. Better to sleep, but they'll do the trick until you get needed rest."
Then, he notices he hasn't introduce himself yet..
"Oh, by the way... I'm professor Oddball" says with a grin.
Sep 19, 2022 8:38 pm
Thank you Matsuki manages to smile a bit even though she feels like falling asleep right on the spot. I am Matsuki Magumi. And indeed I am tired. Had a troubling few encounters these days.
In fact Matsuki just wants to silently eat her meal but she has the feeling that the professor will just keep talking whether she says something or not. So she decides to keep up with the small talk, if for no other reason than to steer the flow of conversation
So you're a professor? What's your field of expertise? And what brings you here?
Sep 20, 2022 1:50 am
Acceptable. I'll rejoin you in a moment," Nikolai replies to Matsuki and then proceeds to head towards the soda dispenser she pointed out, intending to soothe his being with some fizzling, refreshing drinks. Sue him for having an odd preference, but there are few things better than having a nice glass of soda after a hard day - and he is not above using intimidation to skip the queue. Not that soda is usually the thing to spawn queues, even if it is a good brand, much less Brawndo.

He returns from the dispenser with a haul of three bottles and drops onto a seat opposite Oddball. "Understatement," he comments at the man's remark on their visible lack of sleep and picks up the offered apple with a nod of thanks, biting into it while simultaneously opening his soda. After he succeeds in this, he adds an introduction, as an afterthought: "Wolf."
OOC:
No shade on Brawndo, I never actually had one. XD But *The Thirst Mutilator* sounds appropriately ridiculous for this space station, I must say.

"Konnichiwa Magumi-san. Ogenkideska?" he replies after hearing her name, almost mindlessly, as if an old custom took over for a moment. But nonetheless, he continued paying attention to her reply. And nodded to Wolf when heard his one-word very-meaningful comment.
"Oh, I'm an engineer, I build and fix staff, you know? Like, all kinds of machines! " He smiles openly as he clearly enjoys talking about it "Like I once designed a space station for a different star system. Another time, I built an escape pod from scratch, that was crazy man! They had old rubble and sheets of metal and old computers, and needed to leave in a month.. hahaha... The ride was NOT fun, I can tell you that, but they landed alive!"
"What bring me here... You mean WHO, right? Haha, the bosses brought me here. They seem to have plenty of things to fix here. That's cooool for me, plenty of fun project to work in... But just arrived today, so haven't started yet. How about you? Who brought you here? And what encounters were you on? I thought this was a peaceful place"
Sep 22, 2022 1:36 am
There is a visible rise of interest in Wolf's expression when Oddball says that he is an engineer, and the man even briefly puts down the bottle of soda he's been quietly destroying to offer another succinct comment: "A colleague of mine, huh. I am an electrician." Nikolai snorts, flexing his fingers and making the claws on his gauntlets briefly pop up. "...Most of the time. Seems like this station has less need of electricians and engineers than of alien vanquishers. Have you heard of The Face?"

Sorry for not replying for awhile.
@Scrol you can choose to recover 1d6 Will for a day of rest. 1 week rest is full recovery. However, your HP must recover first before your Attributes.

1 day rest/long rest requires 6 hours of eating, drinking and sleeping. I'll make it cost 1 credit to buy food, and another 1 credit for a day of renting a room, if you want to. You can also choose to share a room, but you may not have enough beds(I won't make it mechanically different, so I guess that won't matter), or find a corner of the base to sleep in, which have some risk.

Edit: wait, did Nikolai lose hp that time in your fight?
No you did not. Alright then. Roll 1d6 to recover your Wills, and let me know how you will go about sleeping.
Sep 22, 2022 6:52 am
Oddball nods as he acknowledge a colleague, he does enjoy electricity a lot. "Alright! you work with sparks, that's cool man!" Says with a smile.
Then he sees the gauntlet pulling on and off its claws... "That's so cool man!Wait, are you using the movement of the fingers, or servoes to control the claws? How do you power them?"

But his curiosity about the gauntlets was cut short with the mention of The Face.
"A face? Sure man, we all got one. I mean humans, right? I don't know about, like, beings from other worlds... maybe they got more? Or less? Or, well, I haven't met any non-human so I wouldn't know. So many possibilities man!

But did you say about aliens and vanquishers"
Sep 22, 2022 11:22 pm
Not a human face. Rather a monument in the shape of a face. It seems to be an alien structure and we were there. And faces were coming out of... well... I don't know whether I'm allowed to tell you any details. Matsuki says slowly and calmy while eating here menu. After a small pause without any talking Matsuki continues
What I can or rather should tell you is that you have to be very careful around here. It seems that some people here are... let's say loosing their mind. Like in a cult if you understand

OOC:
I did, actually! It was 1/2 by the end of previous chapter, and I restored it when this one started. This means I can't recover Will now, right?
Nikolai seems pleased at Oddball's interest in his gauntlets, a tiny smile briefly appearing on his usually impassive face as he flexes his fingers again. "It is fully mechanical. It didn't feel safe to use high tech when you run the chance of being electrocuted daily."

He then leans back on his chair, listening to Matsuki and their new acquaintance discussing the Face and their eventful expedition. He nods in support when the former mentions being careful, and supplies his own advice once she grows silent: "Avoid skulls as well, if by chance you encounter one." Nikolai pauses, then clarifies as an afterthought: "Exposed skulls, that is."

"EleKtroCUted, Cults, Skulls... lots of dangerous words with the same sounds... Definitely not cool."
He thinks for a moment, trying to read behind lines... Before answering.
"Too many advises to be careful, right? But something tells me you will go back to danger soon... and see more skulls... and you may need help, right?"
Then to Wolf...
"Oh, and I love you going old-school, full mechanical for an electrician, I'd love to check them closer if it is ok with you, and we have time".
And so he finishes his meal, and draw a bit of chewing magic.

OOC:
Oh yeah, so that means you don't recover Will yet. Which is fair to make time matters. So also decide after your meet up if you will attempt to have further rests at risk of further cult activity since they would be aware that "troublemakers" are now back, or get to work with dealing with the cult quickly at risk of incomplete recovery.

Matsuki takes a bite of her apple, chews it slowly and looks at the talkactive professor. She's inclined to send Oddball off because he talks too much but on the other hands only Zakk, Wolf and herself are left.
If Professor Oddball just recently arrived she can at least be sure that he isn't compromised by the cult or the aliens.
Okay. I think we could use someone who is able to repair stuff. Or circumvent... barriers. I don't know what our next mission will be but I'll encourage our boss that you can come with us
Oct 14, 2022 5:03 am
Oddball will also explain back that he is also given a side job to help the boss, Samantha. And that very likely, she intended for you all to work together as well.

The current side job is to continue to investigate the cult. Or if the party doesn't think that's important, they can choose to fully recover first then find a local job to pass the time until something more urgent comes up.
OOC:

Locations: (Each of these places have people, and some may be unauthorised for the party to enter yet. But sneaking in is posible.)
- Spaceship hangar
- Vehicle garage
- Laboratories and clinics
- Cafeteria/Lunch room(you are here)
- Technician's maze
- Indoor park and market
- Offices
- Mining test site
- Construction site

Options to investigate:
- The thugs that beat up the priest that was with you is still in the clinic.
- Nikolai can recall that Sabe Ruth, his talkative gauntlet-design stealer, is said to be a member of the cult.

Any another questions, do ask.
Oct 19, 2022 9:14 pm
Yes indeed, Oddball shares this information and invites them to start with the investigation of the cult. And asks if you know something about it.
Oct 22, 2022 5:56 pm
Given that the rest of the team is unsure of what to do next...
"We may go to the indoor park, and check the market. We could probably get some clues. Shall we?"
Oct 22, 2022 10:09 pm
Matsuki carefully listens to Oddballs' results of his investigations. It's worrysome that the cult seems to have spread in her absence

Well, any start is better than none. So let's check out the market
Let's pose as "People who are seeking a way in their life". Maybe we'll get approached by some strange cult leader and get some informations...?
Lead the way,.... Professor

"I like that idea... I just arrived, and you also finished a mission, makes sense to be looking for a job."
Oddball finishes him meal and leads them out of the canteen and into the park. While walking he asks about the the local climate... and pays attention to everyone they cross path with.
Oct 25, 2022 10:50 am
The journey to the indoor park is a brisk one. The few people they passed seems busy with whatever they are doing or heading to. The usual technician or scientist can be seen, with one or two folks in office clothes passing by.

If Oddball wants to know the weather climate of the planet, it is the usual drab grey of clouds, but the sun seems to shine through better than usual, so the scenery of black and grey stones and dirt is visible out the windows with minimal shadows cast by the hills.

If its social climate, the people are quiet, with some looking even depressed. Collectively, everyone seems to have some level of fear and nervousness. A clear lack of friendly warmth is present in this place.

At the park, the glass roof shows the starry sky peeking through thick clouds. A variety of plants and trees are decorating the few patches of soil here, with benches running along the paths. Stalls selling "street" food and assorted equipment line the walls of this enclosed structure. The owners of the shops looking bored as no customers are presently queuing.

Here, 3 groups of people can be seen. A pair of players in casual clothes having a focused match of a classical board game on stone table and benches. A trio of workers maintaining the underground drainage system at a section of the park. And a group of four individuals sitting around a table talking with one another, with the topic of sleep and dreams.
Oct 26, 2022 4:04 pm
Well professor. I guess the people talking about 'dreams and sleep' are most likely to help us I think. Time to let your... extrovert talents shine. Matsuki says, supressing a yawn. She's still very exhausted from their previous mission
Oct 28, 2022 11:47 pm
Oddball nods at Magumi-san, not so much to the reference to talents, but to the idea of talking to those guys.
He approaches the group with confident step and... "You too had strange dreams? Oh my, you won't believe what I had to endure!" He approaches even more, almost to the point of sitting with them "It was like a dungeon, you know? And black shadows, like veeery dark shadows would walk around with silver mouthes and eyes, but they just laughed at someone, didn't say nothing really. Quite scary if you ask me! Then they would open their mouths as to eat her, but didn't. Then a skull appeared in the middle and started vomiting blood... but it was like old blood, you know? Like, very dark and smelling terrible. I tried to wake up, but the shadows wouldn't want me to." Oddball takes a handkerchief and dries his forehead... "Only later the skull laughed and I could wake up... I'm glad I have had no more of those..."
Oddball, while telling the tale, looked carefully at each of the four persons. He wanted to know who could be a good source of information, but also who were more easily scared.

OOC:
Sorry for a week of absence.
The group of them seemed slightly surprised and offended that Oddball just comes in and interrupts their conversation. However, what the professors then says causes them to silently listen in with full attention.

The 30 year old man in a blue shirt and jeans listen with wide eyes and a slightly opened mouth.
The 40 year old man in a red shirt with glasses and shorts furrows his eyes with a downturned mouth.
The 30 year old lady in a casual green dress, has a similar expression as the red man, but she taps her finger lightly on the table.
The 50 year old man in a grey jacket listens with an opened eyed look that might be amusement or surprise.

The red man speaks first. "That's it? You stopped having those dreams? Sounds like baloney. Yours is the worst sounding one, but doesn't seem like you're as badly affected as us."

The grey man counters. "Now, now, Damien, you know you shouldn't judge other's dreams. Let's all trust that each one that we shared is real and that we coped with it in our own ways."

The green woman now comments. "I think it is true. I mean, compared to some rumours I hear, the shadows and skulls imagery are a huge coincidence lately. I think there may be some connections..."

The blue man lastly comments too. "I... um... think I need to go now. I think your nightmares are going to be shared with me tonight. I better take my pills..."

The grey man gently puts his hand out. "Woah, calm down there, Barry. We haven't fully sought out your issues yet, so sit with us a little longer, please."

Barry was about leave his seat, but then reluctantly settles back down.
OOC:
Blue man/Barry seems to be most afraid. But does Oddball or anyone else have questions for the others?
Nov 8, 2022 8:07 am
Oddball follows their conversation in detail, but doesn't wait for further reply to comment more...
To the red man.. "Damien, right? You know man? You are right, it has been once since I arrived a couple of days ago, and have been taking my medicine, I'm not planning on having them daily! Hahaha" He laughed, but it was clearly a nervous laugh.. not so much as entretaining but as hoping it won't happen again.
Then he continues more to the green lady and the gray man "I take it you also shared similar dreams? Do you know what this could mean? You also mentioned connections..." His face clearly puzzled as what those connections could be.
Nov 9, 2022 2:06 am
Damien remarks back, but in a way more as to talk to himself than directly to Oddball. "Newcomer, eh? Could have been faking his symptoms of suffering like that very early..."

The gray man hand waves Damien's comment before answering Oddball. "Yes sir, we have a belief that our dreams, or rather nightmares, have some similarities and may have a connection. Of course, our collected data is very limited, but I feel a few of us has made our theories on this. Linda, why don't you share yours first."

Then Linda, the green dressed woman, next speaks. "Thanks Gabrien. I have been gathering stories from my close co-workers and from chatter made by the maintainence folks. Their dreams always end the same. They see some scene that should be normal for them, but they feel like their surroundings gets uncomfortably darker and then either white eyes or faces or skulls can be seen or felt watching them in the darkness or shadows. Sounds like too much of a coincidence to me, so I went to ask around a little more. Turns out Gabrien is also well aware of the strange coincidences. So we decide we could have casual small gatherings like this to both understand this mystery better and give therapy to others.

For me, I believe there is nothing supernatural about this. We got to stop spreading the rumours that there was something spiritual about this, otherwise irrationality and further distress may grow and further multiply this effect. Which leads to my firm belief that all this is hysteria. And this hysteria is caused by two factors. One is that the supernatural interpretation of the "face" site photograph have made people grow paranoid, and theories about an alien god being present by some of our less rational employees have made it worse.

Another factor I believe is not well confirmed yet, but I think it should be the air that we are now breathing. We don't get a lot of details on the mechanics of how the filtration system works for our dome interiors, but I heard experimental cheap chemicals are used. Could be that a side effect of this method is causing slight brain poisoning to some of our staff. Mostly the maintainence crew and sanitary workers. They seem to experience the effects the worst. The researchers and department managers have either no such nightmares or its very minimal. Now, I will not make a complaint this, because as I said, its just a theory so far."

Gabrien, the grey clothed man, nods. "Yes, that sounds right. Our poor co-workers are suffering from nightmares of a watching darkness. But what I disagree with is the rejection of a spiritual perspective. You see, working and living here is honestly no joy. The sky is always black, and the ground is always grey. This can affect the mind of a man, and their soul too. I am no priest, but I feel that I need to do my part to step in to help with a wiser touch. The maintainence, the sanitary, and all other roles that requires one to work under the pyramidal leadership of an uncaring super organisation, to be faced with the hardest and dirtiest of labours. I believe the Face's discovery is now causing an awakening of the devils inside. Devils, that could be eased out with careful enlightenment..."

"Ah, no offense, but I am not the religious type. But that might work for some affected. Speaking of which, Lenny, which of us do you think sounds more right to you?" Linda asks to the blue man, Lenny. He simply looks back and forth from Linda and Gabrien and whimpers a "I-I don't really know..."
Dec 7, 2022 12:06 am
While Oddball is conversing with the four individuals about dreams, skulls and - apparently - spiritual health, Nikolai stays back, almost automatically drifting towards the shadows cast by the park trees. At one point he eyes a nearby stall with some interest, mostly because they are selling lemonade, but unfortunately it is highly unlikely that a vendor would be able to help their investigation in any way. Although if these weird dreams are already as widespread to be discussed by groups of people, perhaps there is merit in talking with more uninvolved parties.

Regardless, talking is not what Wolf does, so instead he remains content watching - watching the maintenance workers, specifically. Just in case there is anything of note in what they are doing; sewers are, after all, a favorite access point of malicious aliens in sci-fi movies.
Dec 12, 2022 9:07 pm
Matsuki yawns with her arms crossed in front of her chest.
Well Ms. Linda. I think your theory is quite appealing. I also heard that there are places that emit black spores in the wilderness surrounding us. If the air filtration isn't working that good I think these spores could affect people. Just like you know.... those mushroom drugs some people used to take in those old movies...
She looks around.
Maybe we can convince the authorities that a stricter air filtration protocol is needed she remarks with her eyebrows furrowed
OOC:
Sorry for taking that long to post. After Cathamber hasn't posted in a while I thought that the game isn't running any more.
Welcome back FlyingSucculent. Hope you're better now ^^

OOC:
I am, thank you! :D
Hearing the last comment, Nikolai turns away from watching the workers and looks back at the company around the table. "Can't be too careful when it comes to airborne viruses, even if they aren't the only source of these dreams," he concurs with Matsuki, then frowns slightly. "Does any of you know of someone who might have been acting differently in the recent days? Aside from having weird dreams? As the rumor mill goes, there seems to be some sort of a new," Wolf wiggles his fingers in the air, "spiritual movement gaining influence at the station, and my companions were interested in exploring new opportunities. Alas, they seem to be hard to get a hold of."

I am now on vaction now, so I may be absent for weeks. I'll make a post now.
Ms Linda looks somewhat relieved that another person has agreed that the current air filter is a health risk. She collects herself before speaking again. "I am glad that you are also willing to help me in solving the air issue. Maybe with our numbers we can now press for the authorities to investigate this."

As Nikolai implies that he wish to speak with the new spiritual movement to join them, Gabrien, the man in grey shirt, answers amused.
"Oh?... You're interested in the Visage Conversation Club?"
He glances at his surroundings for a moment before continuing.
"Conveniently for you, I am actually a member of it. I only joined quite recently, but I am already allowed to look for new members. Why it is very secretive and hard to find is because the management views it as too much of a distraction from work. Plus, the discussions that goes on in their meetings are very unconventional, but if true, would undermine everything that we know. But you folks look open-minded enough and curious about our nightmares, so I will invite you to our next meeting. It will happen in about an hour, right at that sitting area over there."

As Gabrien shares this, Linda can be seen rolling her eyes and shaking her head.
OOC:
So, what will you guys persue first?
Jan 3, 2023 10:20 pm
"Visage Conversation Club?" Nikolai repeats with a raised eyebrow, then snickers: "They need to work on their branding, it sounds like a weird mix of pretentious and mundane. But that aside, we'll gladly visit the meeting, so thank you for the invitation. I am sure my friends will find it enlightening in one way or another. Now if you'll excuse us..." He nods to the entire group in goodbyes, then strolls away towards the flowerbed he's been standing by before and waits here for the others.

Once Matsuki and Oddball rejoin him, Wolf gestures towards the workers examining the vent. "If it's an hour to the meeting, we might as well ask around about the spore situation in the meantime. If this alien creature is doing the same here as it did at The Face, we better prevent it as soon as possible." He pauses, thinking. "Do you remember the communicator the alien mentioned? The one which is now with "a human woman"? We can try to find it later as well, once we're done here."
Jan 7, 2023 10:40 am
Ah yes. 'The communicator'. Nearly forgot about him. Well he could be amongst this Visage Conversation Club members. Better keep our eyes open. Matsuki says while observing the Gabrien from the corner of her eyes.
Well I'm all with you in regards of looking into the spore situation. I can do without another spore zombie apocalypse
Jan 9, 2023 4:27 am
"Another? I don't think an abandoned lab filled with zombies constitutes an apocalypse. Unless there is something you're not telling me, and your past is secretly full of world-ending mysteries..." Wolf chuckles, then sighs. "Let's go talk with the workers then. I'm part of the electrical crew, so hopefully they won't be too cagey if something is amiss. Oddball, are you coming with us?"
OOC:
Since Cathamber is inactive, perhaps Oddball can leave to ruminate on the information about dreams until the player returns?

FlyingSucculent says:
[ +- ] I thought communicator was a skull?...
OOC:
I saw it as a metaphor. So that the being resides in the skull but actually it's a whole person. But there is amiguity to that. I think we will find out when we meet the communicator
Jan 16, 2023 1:44 am
Gabrien chuckles at Nikolai's comment. "Oh ho ho! The branding... You're quite right about that. I heard the Club used to keep changing its name, but right now, our Club works best as you say, 'pretentious and mundane'. Anyways, see you soon!"
OOC:
Alright, Oddball can leave to be in background for now. (Or follow along as a "cardboard puppet".)

As the group approach the three workers, one of them take notice and asks aloud in a gruff voice. "What do you guys want? We are busy repairing this drain. Apparently someone dumped damaged batteries in here and now we have to replace the pipes all day."
Jan 18, 2023 7:34 pm
"No one ever reads instructions for utilization, do they?" Nikolai nods seriously, fully empathizing with the worker. He might not be dealing with piping in his line of work, but plenty of electrical devices also suffer from user-side ignorance: even in the age of fully digital manuals some people are just too lazy to read safety warnings. "We won't take up much of your time, just have a few questions. Word on the street is that there are some problems with the ventilation system. Poisoning cases, specifically. You know anything about it?"
Jan 19, 2023 5:21 pm
Matsuki stands a bit behind Nikolai, yawning occasionally.
Yeah. The filters seem to be malfunctioning I've heard. Someone should really do something about that but as always the ones up there... Matsuki points in the direction of the administration offices ...as usual don't care about us. So we, the common people, have to fix their shit. Right, yeah?
Jan 27, 2023 5:04 am
The man that greeted was confused for a moment, until another worker in the drain poked his head out and spoke.

"The air filters for our base? Yeah, I heard a buddy of mine mentioned something about it before. He was responsible for installing a few of them. They had new experimental components, and the scientists were anxious to ensure that the machines were handled carefully. From what I heard, the science folks had conflicts with it being used, but the issue was settled in that it works and is safe. Beyond that, I haven't heard of complaints about the air being poisonous. If that is the case, then our doctors should be aware of that problem too. Sure, we can look into it, but upper management or the developers of the filter system may be unhappy if we start an unauthorised maintainence inspection."
Feb 3, 2023 4:32 pm
"You haven't heard any complaints about the air? Curious, as there were allegedly a lot - then again, perhaps it's localized. No strange dreams for any of you, either?" Wolf grins at the group of workers, in his usual "I don't mean to be threatening but I accidentally am" manner, his eyes narrowing in what seems like suspicion but is actually just him squinting. It's not always practical to wear neon-green glasses indoors. "If there is anything unusual you know of, perhaps we can let the upper management know for you. Got some favor with them recently, so it's not a problem if we get heat for it. Of course, if everything is fine, then we can leave you to your job."
Feb 5, 2023 9:00 pm
Do you by any chance have one of those filters? Or know where to find one?
I'd love to have a look at them
Feb 12, 2023 5:09 am
To Nikolai: "Um... Ok. We have heard of nightmares being a frequent thing among our colleagues. But for the air, nothing seems to be bad enough to complain about. In fact, we are grateful for technology to be developed enough to allow for breathing Darst's air without coughing, or needing to use up oxygen tanks. Anyone who starts coughing is probably not doing so because of the particles in the air outside.

But I do have something else that is unusual. A buddy of mine occasionally complains of sleeplessness and having hallucinations while at work. But recently that issue changed when he went to a group called the Visage Conversation Club. He now not only says he is cured but he is now protected by someone called the Watcher. He kept smiling the whole day, a sharp contrast to a fortnight ago. Whatever is going on, that does sound unusual to you right? Though if there is something I want upper management to help with, is giving us more pay, or at least more psychological support. If things grow worse around here... then I guess a revolution may happen. And not by people who are stable, if you get what I am saying."

To Matsuki: "I don't have one with me, but I know if you really want to find any, it could be troublesome. Each dome and corridor have at least one installed. If we help you... it might cost you to make it worth our trouble. But if you want to try to look at one yourself, I know a section of the place that unlikely to have people passing by to catch you messing with the equipment. To the north, the base extension is still under construction, but some completed chambers, such as the utility room, are there with machines installed but not in use. I believe there, you can have a peek, but don't get caught by any of the workers or they will ask for your authorisation and kick you out.

Another option is to look at the science labs. The prototype locker room should have some filters and parts the creator of the filter still keeps. The question is, how will you get the keys to it? Good luck convincing him to let you study his prized project."
Feb 28, 2023 10:17 pm
"Sounds either like a cult, or like someone getting way too familiar with hallucinogenic alien flora," Wolf shrugs. "Perhaps both. I'm sure I don't need to advise you not to follow in his footsteps and join this "conversation club". And as for upper management's support, we'll see what we can do. If nothing else, perhaps they'll be scared enough for their positions of power and actually do something more than sending random volunteers to fight toxic mold." He nods at the workers and steps back. "In any case, thank you for the information. Take care, and good luck with the drain."

Nikolai then looks at Matsuki, silently waiting to see if there is anything else she wants to ask before they leave.

Thank you, very much. I'll bring you a Nuka Cola the next time I'm around Matsuki responds

She brings a bit of distance between herself and the works and then says to Nikolai.
Well. Let's have a look at the northern construction size. Someone seems to be way too keen on hiding those filters.... Agreed?
Mar 8, 2023 4:17 am
"Right now?" Nikolai glances around in search of any screen or display in their vicinity which might be conveniently displaying time. "I'm not sure we'll manage to sneak in and out in under an hour, at least not if we're trying to do it quietly. But if you're willing to risk it..." He grins. "I'm in. It's been a while since I was in trouble with the authorities, I'm almost starting to miss it."

He looks back at the group of people sitting around the table, presumably still discussing their weird dreams and their respective theories about said dreams' origins. "Or we can wait until the club picnic happens and go after the filters later. Not sure if it'll make much difference, but we might miss the meeting if we go breaking-and-entering now."
OOC:
Is there a period of lower security activity at the station? Can we guess the best time to steal the filters?

Yeah you're probably right... I'm gonna get one of those caffeine drinks and then we'll go to the meeting. We can still look for a filter afterwards. I'm too tired for a quick break-in followed by a, probably very boring, meeting Matsuki says with a big yawn
Mar 13, 2023 1:22 pm
"Didn't have a good sleep? Understandable, considering recent events. Hey, at least it might serve as a cover for why we're interested in their little secret club. The more you yawn, the more it holds..." Wolf stretches and flexes his arms, then nods towards the cafeteria. "Go grab some coffee, then? I'll wait here, to keep an eye in case they show up earlier."

Na! Dreamt of black fungus zombies and rock concerts. Not sure why I dreamt of the last one.
She lets out a big yawn.
Thanks. I'll make it quick
Matsuki hurries to the cantina...
Mar 15, 2023 11:27 pm
OOC:
@FlyingSucculent as of right now, you guys aren't too familiar with the workings and schedules of the facilities. But if you hazard a guess, there are common periods for sleeping and eating etc, but there are also rotational shifts for certain jobs, and may make certain areas just as busy throughout the day.
Matsuki goes to look for a hot cup of coffee. She chooses one with a strong name from the drinks stall costing 1 Credit, drinks it down, and hurries back to the park hub with new energy.
OOC:
Custom rule: Hot Coffee: You ignore the Exhaustion condition for (6 - X) Watches, where X is the number of days without sleep. And you can't rest until next Watch.
Note: 1 Watch = 6 hours.
I will assume you will stay for the meeting time.
Mar 16, 2023 2:05 pm
A small procession comes into the park. The leader of this group of 9 people wears a dirty hoodie and sunglasses as if trying to hide his face. His hands are very wrinkled as they swayed about as he walked with confidence. The 8 others are dressed in either work or casual clothes. Those in uniform seem to be technicians and construction workers. Gabrien, the man in grey, stands up and shakes the hand of the hooded man.

"Greetings, Mister Petrov! I have some poor colleagues in need of the enlightenment that you offer. It is the usual; nightmares of darkness or watching eyes. I hope they too can be a member of your club."

Petrov offers a filthy grin as his head slowly turns to face everyone that is new. When he speaks, his voice is coarse but has a presence of power too.
"I am glad. I am glad for more sheep to come into my fold. Our Watcher blesses us with more lost souls to salvage. Come, help me up to allow my voice to reach all who will listen..."

Gabrien and another member support Petrov as he climbs onto a table facing the wide pathway of the park...
OOC:
Do you want to introduce yourselves or ask questions first before he may preach?
Mar 23, 2023 2:41 pm
Nikolai leans over to Matsuki, whispering to her as they watch the group: "They really don't like subtlety, do they? If this doesn't sound like a cult, then I'm a fluffy sheep." He follows Petrov and his two improvised human supports with his eyes as the older man climbs the table. "No respect for tables, either. Do you want to talk with him? I don't think I'm good at schmoozing with religious figures, but I can play a stoic bodyguard if needed."
OOC:
I have 2 Willpower, I'm not the man to deal with cults. :'D
Mar 25, 2023 2:47 pm
Even though the coffee reinvigorated her a bit Matsuki is still pretty shaken.
I'm not the religious type either Matsuki whispers. I say we let him talk and then we'll see how the crowd reacts. Better not cause any waves now...
OOC:
I only have 2 Willpower too ^^ I imagine Matsuki and Nikolai just standing in the corner with dark rings around their eyes XD
Mar 30, 2023 2:47 pm
As Petrov begins to speak, a few security guards approach the gathering. They kept their distance as a couple of the fitter-looking members act like bodyguards by sternly glaring at the officers and forming a circle around the makeshift stage. Seeing how the officers remain at the corners of the park shows that they are powerless to stop this event from happening.

"Greetings, my dear children. I am excited to share good news of our recent developments, but first things first, allow me to introduce myself to our new listeners. I know I just called you children, even if some of you may be about my age or even older too. But I consider myself as a father figure, considering that I am the creator of this blossoming club. Now, you may have heard all sorts of rumours about what this club is, but the truth is that it have never strayed from its original mission; to create a welcoming space to discuss the true nature of The Face. Unfortunately, our club activities are not welcomed, but now that we are well-grown, we too have grown unafraid of hiding our voice. We mean no harm to the status quo, but just to share the news that the secrets our overlords have been hiding from us may not remain as secrets much longer."
He says this last point while looking directly at the displeased guards.

The hooded prophet continues.
"I shall share of my humble beginnings again. I was once Petrov, a nobody janitor that hopes for a better pay by being stranded in this glass cage on a dark and dusty rock. One day, I received news that my wife passed away back on Darst, and I fell into a terrible grief. I had nightmares of my wife coming to visit me on this station, complaining to me that I have failed to be with her for the past decade. One night, when I have burnt my salary on the over-charged alcohol, I think I was about to take my life, but I was saved at the last minute by a vision. I saw the ghost of a man in a vacsuit, and he told me he have chosen me for an important mission. He told me that aliens exist, and that they are like that of benevolent angels. Their only desire for Mankind is to ascend us, to make us join them in their heavenly choirs amongst the stars. He appointed me to be the speaker for these aliens, a prophet for the angels, if you will. He then gave me proof that what he say is true because he himself have ascended, and now offers me a part of his mortal body that he no longer needs so that we may continue to be in contact.

Children. This is a miracle that I had been forced to keep a secret about for a month now, and it is now revealed for you listeners to know. With this knowledge, I too can explain why you have been having nightmares. They are the divine visions sent to you by the aliens. Ones that show hints of their glorious forms. Be not afraid of the darkness, or the eyes, or the skulls, for they are the faces the Watchers present to us mortals. They are a simplified form of the bigger truth of what they are..."

A wave of fear creeps out amongst the listeners, hallucinations start to form at the corners of their eyes. Nikolai and Matsuki sensed it too. Unfortunately for the electrician, he also saw the shapes of unnatural smiles.
OOC:
Roll for me WIL save. Nikolai will be at disadvantage.
Apr 1, 2023 8:29 pm
Nikolai startles at the visions of eyes and smiles creeping in his peripheral vision, then shuts his eyes and furiously wishes himself to focus and stop hallucinating. Probably not how it works, especially if this self-proclaimed cult leader possesses any of the abilities of the black mold back at the Face and whatever aliens are responsible for it, but he can wish.

"We should leave," he grits through his teeth to Matsuki, instinctively taking a step back as the feeling of being watched - of being smiled at - slowly grows more unbearable. "Pretty sure if we want to stay sane, we better to avoid talking with this man. I vote breaking-and-entering over listening to this any longer. Also, security might be distracted now..." He takes a deep, slightly shaky breath. "I can't stay here."
OOC:
I seriously hope it's 1 damage, not 1d4, because they both are going to have a breakdown at this rate. XD

Edit: whoops, did disadvantage wrong, it should've been h1.

Rolls

Apr 2, 2023 2:38 am
OOC:
I will say that due to the hallucinations not being direct, but still unnatural, it will count as "gasps inducing unsettling" 1d4.
If you hit 0 again, you get the chance of growth. Since I stopped doing the compensation growths.

I will roll for Matsuki too.

Result:
Your will is 0 now. Help me track your number of crisis events. By now, I believe you should have 2.
Nikolai is now unfocused, getting disadvantage to saves for 6 turns.
Matsuki now have ran away, will recover in 5 turns.

With the 2nd crisis event, you get to roll 2d6 for HP and d20 for 2 attributes each. If rolled higher, it is your new max value for HP or +1 for the attribute.
As Nikolai asks this, he will notice that Matsuki is already moving. By now the hallucinations should die down as Petrov transitions his topic.

"The Watchers is what we call them, for they watch everything we do. Their eyes are upon all, and their touch is felt through our sleep visions. I see some of you are starting to see them too. Isn't it amazing? They are not physically here, but they communicate their will through our minds in this way for the uninitiated. If you want to stop seeing their basic forms, we can train you to understand their truth more privately..."

A few listeners seem to be having a breakdown, while others including the security personnel, just fidget in their place, clearly uncomfortable but trying to remain cool. As for Matsuki walking away, she seems to have witnessed something from her memory. Something that she wants to take a moment to reflect on by leaving the indoor park section.
OOC:
I assume that Nikolai will accompany her and not listen to what Petrov says next. Whatever that Matsuki is troubled by, I leave it to the player.

Rolls

Nikolai Will damage - (1d4)

Matsuki WIL save - (1d20)

OOC:
Oh fantastic, now Nikolai has even more chances to go insane! I am enjoying this. :P
Nikolai is glad to be leaving the area, so he follows Matsuki immediately and enthusiastically, watching that they aren't followed but otherwise mostly concerned about putting some distance between himself and the faces - even if he knows they are hallucinations and thus aren't tied down to physical places in any way. He is worried about his companion as well, but isn't sure if it's a good time to talk; Matsuki seems not exactly herself for the moment, so Wolf just follows at some distance, deciding to wait until she speaks first.
OOC:
Edit: that's two failed growths and an improvement to HP (previous was 2).
Also, I believe this is the second crisis event. Might be wrong though, it's hard to count because of the compensation growths. I'll check later!

Matsuki runs away. She sees it again in front of of her mind's eye.
Her employer saying Loyalty is everything. Don't you worry. We'll never let you go to prison.
Running away after law enforcement breaches her living quarters.
Realizing that she's been played
Crying in the prison, abandoned by her employer

And this Petrov is another man just like this. Be loyal. Follow me! I'll take care of you. But as soon as things become difficult he'll drop you like a hot potato

Never again. Never again. Never again. Matsuki is constantly murmuring while fleeing the room. Running through corridors, changing directions at each intersection at random.

Matsuki goes through her memories of her betrayal, and how very similar this "speaker for the aliens" is to her employer. The promise of a loyal family that is united through the cunning defiance of the oversized society that forgot about the common man. However, despite how much it had been preached that each individual is special and valued, upon any mistake in the field, the leader will cut all ties to save themselves and the cause. And for the case of Petrov, the follower's fate for failure might be even worse than being thrown to rot in jail...

With that grim understanding, what might be the next course of action now?
Apr 9, 2023 6:30 pm
Matsuki stops at a random intersection, breathing heavily.
Concentrate, Matsuki. You can panic later, for now you need to keep yourself together she thinks to herself

Well... she says with a slightly shaking voice ...we do know now that this guy is probably "the skull" that this being in the ruins mentioned. What do we do now? Have look at the filters?
Apr 20, 2023 7:35 pm
Seeing Matsuki stop, Nikolai cautiously approaches, not entirely sure if his presence is welcome amidst what seems to be a bit of a crisis for his companion. He can't say he himself isn't still shaken either, the images of hallucinations from before still swirling somewhere in the back of his mind. But he would be a bad mercenary if he couldn't internalize his problems until he could address them properly, so he pushes the doubt away - plus Matsuki starts speaking, and his mind is soon back at the more tangible things.

"We might as well. If the commotion in the square attracts security's attention, it will only be easier to sneak in - and if we're caught, we can appeal to being sent on a mission. We already have results to show for it, so that's leverage." Wolf looks around, frowns and sighs. "...I have no idea where we are, haven't worked in this sector before. Let's go find an evacuation plan and figure out how to get to the under construction section."

You're right. There'll probably be a lower security presence. Now seems to be the best time to have a look at the filters.
Matsuki follows Wolf's advice and looks for a map of the area...
Apr 26, 2023 11:23 pm
Looking for a map, Matsuki finds one for emergency evacuation. The North and West have zones labelled as "under development". Seems that the park, cafeteria and working and living spaces are in the middle of the base while the hangers for land and space vehicles are to the East.
It appears that the North will link with the nearby mining operations, while the West will have more residences and other facilities.
OOC:
Will you go North or West to find an air filtering machine? And do you want any further preparations?
Apr 27, 2023 6:03 pm
Matsuki taps her chin while reading the map. Focusing on it helps her calm down a bit. You know what? We could go through the living compartment in the center, grab a few construction worker's clothes, disguise ourselves and then slip into the construction area either to the north or the west. I don't have any preference in that regard. What do you say?
Apr 27, 2023 8:40 pm
Wolf stares at Matsuki, then wordlessly looks down at his coat and his gauntlets. There is a short pause as he examines his attire, considering. "I suck at disguises, and my scars are too recognizable when people pay attention," he says finally, flexing his fingers and making the claws pop up. "But I am still technically an employed electrician here, and no one ever checks permissions for routine maintenance checks. If I stroll in and say I need to look at the wiring or change a lightbulb, who's going to question it?" Wolf grins. "You can be my assistant, and if there is anyone in the area with the filters, I can always do an obnoxious safety inspector routine while you sweep them. Probably will work better if it's residential area, since mining ones might actually care about who goes there."

OOC:
I'll take it that Matsuki agrees too.
The group now heads towards the residential area that is under construction. With Nikolai taking the lead, it seems that everything will go well.

At the border, there isn't any guards, perhaps they are all busy handling the potential commotion at the park, or even that they doubt anyone would want to illegally intrude.

As the Spacers make their way worming around the stacks of materials and scaffolding, they can hear a set of boots making their way towards them...
OOC:
If the group wants to hide or find another way, one person can make a Dex save at advantage. If Nikolai attempts to convince that he is allowed in, he can try to confront the worker and make his excuse.
May 22, 2023 8:13 pm
Wolf glances at Matsuki, then steps forward so that his coat blocks her from view for the first few moments - giving her an opportunity to slip away if she wants to. He isn't particularly concerned about being discovered himself as he's perfectly ready to bluff and threaten, but offering the option feels like a thing to do in the moment - he might not be a team player, but he knows value of having multiple plans ready to go. Perhaps she's already spotted the filters and can go for them while he's being a distraction, or perhaps she is willing to make it a heist in plain sight and play the role of Nikolai's assistant; either way, they'll adjust on the go.
OOC:
I tried to leave it up to Scrol for what Matsuki will do. :D
Whatever Matsuki does, Nikolai straightens his coat, pulls out a multimeter from his bag and makes his best expression of an inspector who just discovered multiple safety violations and is ready to tear a new one to whoever is the poor soul in charge. He even makes a show of leaning towards a stack of materials and examining it as if it were an affront to the very notion of workplace regulations.

Rolls

Dex save - (2d20kl1)

(813) + 1 = 22

May 24, 2023 11:06 pm
Matsuki climbs the pile of white tilings and finds a space to easily hide behind. Meanwhile, Nikolai finds himself ready as the worker walks into view, half distracted by a clipboard he is reading in hand.

Nikolai's acting as a safety inspector is really convincing, as the worker, looking to be aged about 30, gets anxious trying to answer the unhappy inspector's questions and accusations. Apparently, the safety regulations for the facility construction here are indeed lax, as the worker only apologised and asked what he can do for Nikolai. The worker is trying to keep Nikolai from entering deeper by saying that there is no need to. Whether he doesn't want to trouble his boss, or he is a member of the cult hiding inside, is difficult to tell right now.
OOC:
You can choose to still post what Nikolai says and asks if there is something you want to know.
Matsuki can choose to move ahead within the hidden narrow path as the worker is fully distracted.
May 27, 2023 6:19 pm
Matsuki bets on Wolf to keep the worker distracted and as swiftly and quietly as a cat she rushes deeper into the construction area, hoping to find a filter somewhere.
She keeps her ears open in case the worker pushes past Wolf
Jun 3, 2023 7:59 pm
The worker's blatant attempts to lead Nikolai away from the deeper sections of the construction site are quite suspicious, but during his years as a mercenary Wolf always followed the principle of staying laser-focused on his current goal - and their current goal are filters, not whatever mysterious operation is run beyond the scenes. So he allows the man to steer him away, hopefully giving Matsuki more of an opportunity to look around in the process, and continues pressing about the lack of fire safety and proper utilization containers on site.

When the worker pauses in his apologies and asks what he can do for him, Nikolai makes a show of looking through his bag, frowning slightly. "Hmm, I suppose there is something else I'd like to ask. It's not particularly in *my* job description, but some of my colleagues from mental health department mentioned that a lot of personnel in nearby sections has been complaining about insomnia and auditory hallucinations lately. Have you encountered anything similar on this site? Perhaps more workers than usual calling in sick?"

Matsuki will move forwards through the poorly placed barriers and stacks of containers. It seems no one is here, perhaps its also break time their, or that the construction efforts is purposely slow. In any case, the residential units can be easily found by their rows of doorless rooms stacked on top of each other accessible by stairs for each level. Large tubes seem to connect to one small storage room. Another such room has bundles of cable leading to it. Another thing to note is that one of the residential rooms have a spray paint on the wall that reads "DO NOT DISTURB".
Meanwhile, Nikolai will get a response from the scrawny worker.

"Ah? Oh, yes. I do hear about quite a number of my colleagues feeling awful. I personally don't get it, but it seems to affect people badly enough to change their personalities. Some more depressed than usual, or maybe more scared. Some have become more confident in a... strange way. I think it is because of some club activity they are joining. So far, they are not willing to call in sick, since they act as if it is nothing. But those that are concerned talk about some kind of repeating nightmare.

But between you and me, I recommend that you don't ask anyone else about this issue. Some will start looking at you like a ghost, or maybe they will ask you to join a secret meeting with their friends. I don't care for club activities that involve topics unrelated to me."
Jun 18, 2023 2:39 pm
"Depression? Nightmares? Now, we can't have that in a productive work environment," Nikolai makes a show of scribbling into his pretend inspection notes. "Then again, we can hardly ban a club either - recreation is just as important, wouldn't you say? Although it is quite interesting that it seems to be so popular among the people, and yet there is little concrete information on what this club is about. But hey!" He slaps the worker's shoulder. "Not my job, and I'm sure glad for it after all these rumors; don't want to touch all this with a ten foot pole."

Hopefully, if there is some connection between the Visage Conversation Club and this worker, then at least Wolf has convinced him that he - and the station superiors - don't care about the issue more than to meet the requirements. Always important to downplay an investigation.

"Now, what can you tell me about the conditions of work in here? Any specific complaints about ventilation, safety, shift time? Don't worry, it's all anonymous - if there is anything you'd like to change, we'll do our best to accommodate."

Large tubes to a storage room? This could be where the filters are Matsuki thinks. She swiftly and silently walks to the storage room where the tubes go and carefully opens the door.
Jun 28, 2023 6:09 am
The worker thinks about Nikolai's question before answering."Yeah, I do hear some complaints about the pay gradually lowering or being stagnant. Our company all the way back home have decided that sending more workers to expanding colonies will make us less important somehow over time and chose to subtly lower our salaries. I know my older construction team members feel resentment to new comers, especially the scientists as each new invention meant less of us are needed.

Those who complained about this the most seem to join this club. They already have their own circle of friends, but they seem to be more... unfriendly than usual. I mean that they collectively choose to do less work and making us young ones handle more of the work. If you do do something about this, please don't mention me, or else... they will make me take a week off."

He gave quick winks before continuing.

"Anything else? As for the ventilation, we had to handle working with the outside air when installing the new sections. So we had to get used to the unfiltered air. I am still not fully used to it, so I mainly work in installing the electrical systems. Even if I do this, I am not told everything about the new machines. Especially the machine responsible for filtering the air. That is top secret, so I can't touch such things. Only the architectural higher ups get to understand how they all work.

As for safety, we are pretty lax. So I am kind of surprised to see an inspector like you here too. I guess our standards will have to return to being strictor, huh? And our shift time is decent. Because we are not in a rush to complete our project, our seniors get to push their work onto us without suspicions from the management. Oh well, such is life on the frontier..."

Meanwhile, Matsuki goes to the room with tubes connecting it. Peeking inside, it is lit up by a dim light bulb. Along the walls, the tubes go through a series of bulky and boxy devices. The one that stands out the most is smaller than the others, with ribbons of black and yellow stripes, and warning signs not to touch the equipment otherwise the worker can be fired.

Before she fully step in, Matsuki the corporate spy manages to spot a figure slumped against one of the bulky machines. The man is wearing the construction clothes, and a bottle is held in his hand. He seems to be asleep, his snores hidden under the motor noise.

Dammit Matsuki whispers. She shortly thinks about her options. She doesn't want to kill the guy who's just doing his job. She also doesn't have anything to bind him on her.
Eventually she decides to try to open the filter container as silently as possible.
OOC:
If Matsuki is allowed to carry her rifle along her on the station
Matsuki leans her rifle to the wall right next to her in order to be able to grab it immediately should the worker awaken. She won't shoot him but threaten to do so.

Nice roll! Flawless execution :P

Nikolai files the information in his mind, remembering what the worker shared for a slim chance that it might be useful later. Disgruntled low salary employees unionizing into an alien-following nightmare club? This sounds straight like something from his past in the Union, the sort of rumours his family would be snickering about at a fancy dinner party. Ugh, what sweet memories it brings. Not to say that the mercenaries were any less likely to believe in such stories... And after the hallucinations at the plaza and the black mold? He certainly believes in *something*.

"No problem - as I said, this is all anonymous." He nods in response to the worker's wink, then looks up at the closest ventilation vent thoughtfully. "Glad to hear the air isn't causing any abnormal problems here. After the whole situation with the last expedition, some of the doctors are concerned about fungi spores and the like - I hope I don't need to remind you to take proper sanitary precautions when dealing with the planetary atmosphere, so I'll spare you the usual lecture. Way your hands, clean your equipment, all that. Also maybe avoid the weird club." He leans closer to the man, conspiratorially lowering his voice. "Between you and me, I am mostly here as a token effort from the superiors, so they probably won't press on it too hard, if at all - but between spending money on better equipment or calling a club the root of all evil, we both know what they'll choose."

Wolf straightens up, looking around to note how far away they are from the direction Matsuki went in at this point. Should he try to go after her? If she is in trouble, maybe he can pull the "I'm the authority, give the perpetrator to me" play. But on the other hand, giving her more time might be a better idea... "Alright, I think I'm done with almost everything here. Although..." He makes a show of glancing up and down the man. "You said that you install electrical systems? I am a little bit of an electrician myself, you know. Want to grab a cup of coffee and discuss how bad electrical equipment on this station is? We can call it an extended interview, so our superiors don't get all bothered." Wolf tries to be suave. Keyword, tries.

Matsuki managed to successfully stealthed her way through. She makes sure she is completely silent, that every step and tampering with the filtering machine is quieter than the snores of the napping worker. Gentle yet quick, she easily removes the outer casing that reveals the rows of multicoloured large wafers. They have an odd chemical scent, but nothing too strong so as to irritate one to cough or awake.

A writing on the side of the filter frame is made in marker: "Property of Dr Wu Kehui. Please do not steal my design. I can send you to jail back home."

There are also various tubes carrying liquids that connects into or out of a few of the framed sections. Further labeling done in cursive marker writing can be seen on opaque scotch tapes.
While the device is new to her, she is able to tell that one of the wafers are missing due to an empty slot.
The worker, whose name is Conor McCarthy, as seen on his tilted name tag, agrees to follow with the friendly inspector for the coffee and interview.

This sounds like one bizarre filtering machine. And a funny way to do a copyright. XD

I don't particularly have anything specific in mind for Conor - mostly just distracting him from the construction site, maybe flirt a bit to support the cover. Do you want me to play it out, RoAries, or should I just wait until Matsuki is out? I'm fine with both (although I can't write flirting to save my life).

Strange... Matsuki thinks. This doesn't look like any filter she has ever seen before. She makes a mental note to inquire about Dr Wu Kehui later.
She looks around the room and at the worker whether she can find the missing filter wafer. She also investigates the notes on the wafers. Maybe she can deduce which of the wafers is missing

I guess we can skip the flirting rp. Though you can say you will attempt that. The characther's personal info and preference I allow you to make up. I have taken his name from the Irish list, so he is an irish-ish young man.
Matsuki looks around the room for anything that looks like those filters. She manages to still avoid waking up the worker, but her examination did not reveal any of the wafer-things. However, Matsuki now notices that the sleeping worker's name is "Ingo Schultz" from his name tag, and he have a tattoo on his arm, which is mostly covered by his uniform sleeves. The lower half of the image is that of lines converging into a knot at the base...
OOC:
If you want to search the worker, either to find if he has that piece of the filter, or what the tattoo fully looks like, you will make another Dex save. The filter piece could also not be here, and is in another room/place.

Oh, I'm absolutely saying that an attempt was made. :P Although considering that Wolf's most friendly attitude still often looks like he is trying to subtly threaten you, Conor better be into scary mercenaries.
I have to say, it would be interesting if something actually come out of it and Wolf got a little bit of a weak spot. I am not directly saying that it would be fun if the Visage Conversation Club kidnapped an Irishman, but...

Nikolai and Connor hit it off pretty well. Any trace of discomfort by the sudden inspector have faded. In fact, the air about Nikolai reminds him of a wolf. One that is not a frightening predator, but instead, is a fiercely loyal companion. And if there is any thing that Nikolai needs, Connor is willing to help within his abilities and risk.

While having the chat in the corner(or at the cafeteria), it seems that the club's leader's preaching have ended, and now the gathered members old and new start to make their way pass them. They seem to be heading to the direction of the north, where the base expansion sites are. That could be a coincidence, or maybe not...

Matsuki sighs slightly. She decides to leave the worker alone for now and to search the area for the filter wafer or at least any trace of it like packaging or installation instructions.
Jul 12, 2023 5:32 am
Matsuki finds nothing of the sort in the air filtering room. She takes a step outside and after a brief search, it doesn't reveal anything along the corridor or in the doorless rooms. The next option could be to open the door to search either the electrical room, or the utilities room with the graffitied message to "keep out". Or she can continue deeper into the construction site, and potentially exit into the unsheltered areas.
Jul 12, 2023 6:35 pm
It's been quite a while since Wolf had any success in relationships. The kind of people who didn't mind his intimidating appearance or gruff demeanor usually weren't the same kind of people who were looking for stability, and so most of his dalliances were interesting, but ultimately meaningless one night stands. Actually chatting with someone over a cup of coffee was admittedly pretty nice, more so than he expected it to be.

...Not nice enough to completely distract him from his mission, however. As he notices in his peripheral vision that the cultists start moving out, he excuses himself for a moment - claiming he wants to go buy a can of soda from a vending machine, - and once out of the earshot, taps his communicator on. "Matsuki," he whispers into the device while operating the vending machine. "The skull followers are moving towards the construction site. You might want to leave before they get there, or hide and spy on them. Where do you want me?"

Small hint. If you think you are about to face a fight or threat that is too much for a few Spacers, you could try to convince or pay people to help you as cannon fodder. But if the risking the lives of others is not your character's style, it is also fine to become a hero.
Jul 17, 2023 12:11 am
Crap! Matsuki whispers into her communicator. Can you hold them off for just a few minutes? Do a distraction? One of the filters is missing and I want to find it.
While she waits for an answer she sneaks to the utilities room and peers inside.
Jul 17, 2023 2:01 pm
Matsuki tries to open the door to the utilities room, but it seems to be locked. It is a regular door, not the ones intended to have electronic locks and card sensors the doors for the residential rooms seem to have. Matsuki have some tools to pick through the door's lock, so the question is is she ready to see what is inside?
Jul 18, 2023 2:35 am
"I can try." Wolf offers a laconic reply as the vending machine spits out his soda, and quickly makes his way back towards Connor. He doesn't sit back down, instead opting to lean in closer to the man, half in an attempt at being seductive and half so he can lower his voice. "I'm afraid my superior just called demanding results of the survey, so I have to go and bother some more people with pointless questions. But this was lovely, and I wouldn't mind a repeat outing, if you're free-" and I am alive, he adds in his head, "tomorrow. Call me, we can talk more about air filtration." Wolf winks, which doesn't come naturally but is hopefully nevertheless convincing, and after a brief hesitation adds: "And stay away from the conversation club, alright? Just trust me here."

After he says his goodbyes to Connor, Nikolai follows after the cultists into the corridors, waiting until they reach a slightly less populated area so that there is less risk of anyone interrupting, and then looks around for the closest electrical panel. He has no desire to cause a massive disruption on the station, but simply sabotaging doors and lights locally can go a long way...
OOC:
Is this a viable plan, to mess with the electrics in a small section? Maybe overload it so everything fries and the cultists get stuck behind automatic doors or something?
Jul 18, 2023 4:51 am
OOC:
Yes, I'll allow you to do that. However, would he try his luck to lock down specifically the path the cultists may take towards the construction site, or would he try to lock down an area to be more sure the group is blocked, but risk disrupting some services?
Jul 18, 2023 6:55 am
OOC:
That depends on whether one of the two is easier to do. I don't think Nikolai is in the best of conditions even after the rest (6 Dex, ahem), so he'd probably try to do something he has more confidence in successfully achieving. In other words, if I can do something without a roll or with advantage, it's the preference. XD

If mechanically it's the same, then he would try to avoid disrupting the services and just derail the cultists for a bit.
Jul 19, 2023 5:17 am
OOC:
I'll not make it be a saving roll. I'll do d6 luck roll to decide the level of the outcome for both actions.
RoAries sent a note to RoAries
As the lights in the corridor are shut off, shouts of surprise and confusion can be heard. Nikolai can't immediately tell how effective he is, but the sounds of yelling can be a good indication.

"Mister Petrov!"

"Sir, are you here? He is still with us!"

"What is going on?"

"Must be a short circuit."

"Quick, either solve it or find us another path."

"I have a torchlight!"

"Hey, I think Nickson made it to the other side of the door."

Nikolai's tampered electrical panel is at a unseen angle from the position of where the cult group is. He will have a brief moment to decide on what to do before someone makes their way to him. Also, no-one was immediately around to witness what Nikolai did.

Wolf grins as the darkness descends and with a quiet whishing sound unsheathes his claws. Yes, he is about to cause illegal property damage he'll probably have to fix later himself, but in its own way the small act of vandalism delights him, reminding Nikolai of his mercenary days. As the cultists murmur in confusion, he uses this time to strike right at the panel, the metal blades - isolated from his own skin, he's not that careless, - sinking through it like butter. If the cultists want to fix it now, they'll need to do more than just flip a couple switches. After all, he can't say for sure that there aren't any electricians among the club, so it's better to be sure.

His mission successful, Wolf then quickly backs away from the ruined panel and into the closest branching corridor, his coat helping him to merge with the shadows. He doesn't want to leave too far away, in case the cultists deal with the situation faster than expected... And if needed, he can always repeat his earlier performance as an inspector. The best way to cover a sabotage? Pretend that you're here to fix it.

OOC:
I'll say this lock is very simple so no risk to require rolling.
The door squeaks open. What Matsuki saw first is the red painted circle on the ground. Scribblings that look like words surround this circle. Words that strangely irritate the eyes to look at.
"... make connection to Watchers that live in Web of Balloons tied to the whispering shadows and the preparation of mankind's invitation to the Black Party..."

Other than the nonsense on the floor, the room seems to have shelves and lockers along the walls, with images of balloons randomly drawn about. There is the 1st and second lockers locked, while the 3rd is open and empty. The shelves are mainly bare, except for what looks like a red paint bucket and brush, and a notebook.
OOC:
Attempting to pick the locker locks will require a roll now as the tools could become broken with use on it.

Nikolai

The electrician mercenary hides away into another corridor that has its lights shut off too. The beam of light from a cultist's torchlight soon crept its way over to the electrical panel, it's revealed state of being shredded causing further confusion and alarm.

"How did this happen?"

"Damn it! This must be a sabotage by one of our enemies!"

"You think it is one of Samantha's helpers?"

"That bitch is probably a few steps ahead of us. We need to skip our club initiation."

"We are not joining your group today?"

"No, you six to need wait first. We have an emergency to solve."

Nikolai will see a group of 4 men and two women walking away in the dark towards the cafeteria that is still lit up. They notice him. Then the aged leader Petrov and three of his bodyguards can be seen alone with the electrical panel. One of the bodyguards he now notice is actually Sabe Ruth, his creepy electrician colleague.

Matsuki Looks around. She's somehow reminded to her trip to the ruins. An uneasy feeling spreads in her stomach. She wants to sit down but no.... There's no time to ponder. She doesn't know how long Wolf can hold off the cultists. She has to act quickly
She snatches the notebook and puts it in her pocket. She'll read it later.

Wolf carefully listens to everything the cultists say, filing away in his mind anything they mention, just in case it can be used later. Initiation, huh; sounds delightful. But the fact that they know about Samantha's plan to bring the cult down complicates matters, as they surely will recognize him - considering how people were staring at him and Matsuki in the cafeteria, everyone on the station know about who they are. But Wolf is one of the station's electricians, so he has a reason to be here... He is about to tap his communicator to check on Matsuki when the group of six - future initiates, apparently, - spot him. Well then, time to improvise.

"Shoddy maintenance, am I right?" He grumbles towards the cultists, just loud enough for them to hear, but hopefully not loud enough for Petrov and company. "Love me some blackouts while I'm trying to have a break in peace." He shakes his head and closes his eyes, going for complete nonchalance and - for extra caution, - hiding his hands behind his back as he leans against the wall and scowls. It is honestly a gamble whether the initiates buy it, but there is always a chance they'd be too intimidated to press. And if not... He is fully prepared to dash to the cafeteria. Spilling actual blood right here would be awkward.

Matsuki wastes no time to grab the notebook without looking at it too much before putting it into her inventory. She then starts to work on the lock. The lock is more complicated than the earlier one, and it broke a few lock picks finally opening up to reveal...

A large dufflebag. It seems to contain something quite big judging from the way it bulges. That is when it starts moving slightly...
Nikolai commentary distracts the group for the moment.

"Yes, this place is getting on my nerves. Having blackouts now might be the last straw for me working here."
A lady in casual clothes says.

"Well, you did say that your hallucinations are triggered by darkness. Did you see anything wierd there?"
A guy asked.

"Hey, that's not funny to ask that. We all had our own issues, and I don't think you enjoy your nightmares."
The other lady scolded.

"Well, I actually do find my nightmares fun. Eh, funny. The creatures like to say wierd shit like-"

The first guy is then interrupted by another in red shirt, who you recognise as Barry.
"Hey, could you just quickly fix the electrical problems? My break time is running out and I want to see what this Petrov guy have to tell us in his club room."

Barry the grumpy man, Gabrien the existing club member, and Damien the nervous dude are here. There is also the annoying guy and the two other women who are new to Nikolai.
Jul 26, 2023 7:36 pm
A hissed Fuck! escapes Matsuki's mouth. She hastily grabs her rifle and points it at the dufflebag.
She turns around to see whether anyone entered the room. Then she slowly pulls the dufflebag out of the locker and slowly opens it, with her rifle pointed at the bag as well as her position allows...
Jul 26, 2023 10:18 pm
While the cultists - or rather future cultists, he supposes, - are chatting, Nikolai quietly flexes his fingers behind his back, making the claws fold back. It probably wouldn't help to stay unrecognized, but at least the sabotage connection would be a little less obvious to an unwitting eye.

As Barry addresses him, Wolf reciprocates with a long deadpan look. "Didn't I just say that I'm not working right now?" He clicks his tongue in exasperation and pushes himself off the wall. "I'll report it for you so it gets fixed quicker, but I can't repair it without the go-ahead in my off hours. And these types of faults mean possibly needing to depower the entire section for safety, which needs prior permissions from the higher instances. In other words, it'll take at least an hour." He shrugs. "Afraid your club will have to postpone its meeting. But on the plus side, you can go to the cafeteria and grab a drink with your friends."

He pauses for a moment, eyeing the group thoughtfully. "Though maybe don't pick coffee, I heard it worsens sleep. Albeit rich it would be for me to give health advice..." Nikolai chuckles light-heartedly.
OOC:

Matsuki checks that noone have sneaked behind her. As she opens up the bag, perhaps anticipating a zombie inside, her rifle is pointed just enough at it. Such awkward holding of her gun in one hand at a close range target would not be effective, but its better than nothing.

Fortunately, it is not a zombie. Unfortunately, it turns out to be Samantha herself! She is gagged and blindfolded, and her hair is a mess over her face. Sensing as the bag she is inside is open, she starts to give muffled yells and squirm harder.

Just as Matsuki relaxes, distant voices can be heard. Sounds like two or more men are approaching, talking aloud with each other.
OOC:
I forgot to mention, that your Invasion Tools have lost 1 point of Durability. So its 2 / 3 Durability now.

Nikolai will see that the group relunctantly accepts that whatever meeting they were hoping to have is postponed. As they walk away, Gabrien continues to talk about how his experience with the club is like, albeit carefully avoiding too much details about what he says he can't share yet.

Meanwhile, peeking back to the cult leader and gang, Nikolai can tell that Sabe Ruth is trying to to use his similarly-designed gauntlets to poke at the sparking panel. He quickly draw his hand away as another spark shot out of a shard of the controls.

"Yeesh... Sorry boss, but I can't return the power in time with the state of this electrical panel." Sabe says in defeat.

"We don't have time. If this is an attack against us, we need to make sure all our assets are safe." Another cultist says.

"My children, we don't need to panic. There are other ways to reach our destination. I have been a janitor here for years, and I know a path that won't require electricity to pass through..." Petrov says in his weak but sage-like voice.

The group takes a moment to agree before Petrov starts leading the way, towards the direction of Nikolai, but the group doesn't seem to see him yet.

Wolf frowns at Matsuki's emotional response, correctly guessing that she must have discovered something more implicating than mere filters, and thus might have more trouble getting out than they counted on. Thus, he gives one last glance in the direction of the cultists - he can't see them behind the corner, but he hears their muted chatter, - and speeds up his pace. By now he is more or less certain that they are heading towards the site Matsuki is at by the shortest route possible, and so it won't be a problem for him to outspeed them.

He turns into a maintenance passageway he knows is parallel to the way the cultists are taking and starts running. It is thankfully abandoned by any workers - most of them must still be in the cafeteria, blissfully unaware of all the nonsense, - and it doesn't take him long to reach the end without any obstacles. He jumps out of the tunnel in one of the half-residential, half-storage areas, not that far from construction site, and takes a quick stock of his surroundings.

There is a small break room before him, directly in the direction of the site, and Nikolai takes a second to consider the downsides of taking it as a shortcut. The downsides aren't too concerning, and so he slips into the room, simultaneously unsheathing his claws - just in case there is anyone inside who might want to question him; usually the claws are enough to dissuade people at a glance.

Nikolai can see that the group is about to take the maintainence route. With the group taking a leisurely walking pace, he manage to outrun them out of sight.

[note="The Maintenance Tunnels/Engineer's Maze"]
While everyone who works here is a working staff of the space program, the design of the base intentionally hides away sections for electrical and pipe maintenance from the main public routes where motor carts and forklifts can be driven on. Perhaps it is in preparation for when the base expands from a town to a city and the need to make the uglier parts of the complex unseen for important guests.
[/note]

As he sprints through the narrow maze, he enters into a break room he didn't get to use often. And it seems that some kind of business was interrupted whe he bursts in...

Matsuki frees Samatha's bindings, who had calmed down upon hearing who is rescuing her. The office lady quietly pulls herself fully free while Matsuki peeks to see out the door. By now, the conversation of the group can be heard coming near now. Up the stairs to the second level row of units, a buff worker leading the way can be seen talking with two other gentlemen. Fortunately, they don't notice that she is looking at them yet.

"I still don't understand why you guys are afraid of giving us more information. I thought we are a just a private forum for discussing our issues, Nickson sir."

"We are more special than that. But I assure you it is definitely important that we continue to talk back at our club room."

Matsuki's fight or flight reflex nearly kicks in but this is not Matsuki's first rodeo. She takes a few deep breaths. Fighting the workers is no option. She doesn't know whether they are armed and how many are there. This is not a situation she controls right now.
Let's get out of here Matsuki hisses and pulls Samantha after her, running in the opposite direction from the approaching workers, as silently as a possible

Nicky was looking at the dice games. He himself did not like to gamble, but watching other do was something he enjoyed. At the man gesture of smoking he stiffened. When was his last fix? The thought of a joint relxing in his tiny room sounded tempting at the moment. So much he barely noticed someone entering with claws in hand.
Aug 15, 2023 1:20 pm
Wolf strolls into the room like he owns it, giving a quick calculating look to the people present. Dice and joints, lovely; significantly better than skulls and hallucinations. Not as good as security, though - he might need some backup if concern in Matsuki's voice was any indication, and Nikolai isn't prideful enough to refuse outnumbering the opponent out of principle. But the three men gathered around the table do look more or less capable - maybe not combat material per se, but in this station it is a given.

Deciding that he might as well, Nikolai changes his trajectory and steps up to the trio. "Gentlemen," he nods in greeting. "Pop quiz in the name of the administration: any one of you interested in earning some money, fame or good faith with our employers? I need some physical backup in a potential disturbance not far from here, security business. Might involve some light skull-bashing, probably not. Any takers?" His claws swish as he sheathes and unsheathes them - it's not intended as a threat, but it sure looks like one.
Aug 15, 2023 2:41 pm
OOC:
Does everyone, know everyone on this station? Would Grant know who Nikolai is?
Hmmm... his could be the leverage I need to get me that promotion and but my boss in his place. And a chance to hurt someone, out in the open... sign me up.The medium sized but athletically built pimple faced man, Grant, raises his hand. A grin spreads across his lips, but doesn't reach his eyes.

"I'll help, I guess. What's going on? And how much money?"
Aug 15, 2023 6:04 pm
OOC:
I don't think so? But since Grant is a welder and Nikolai is an electrician, they might have met before in passing. I'm up for it if you want them to be acquainted.
Nikolai squints at the man, slightly concerned by his enthusiastic grin - but vices can be virtues when applied correctly, so if this guy really wants to beat some cultists up, Wolf isn't going to protest too much. "Some troublemakers on a construction site stirring trouble. Nothing too major to involve a full-on security team, just a few noise complaints, so to speak. We'll swing by, check that there isn't any," he eyes the joint with a raised eyebrow, "illegal activity going on, issue a warning, spook them a bit. Probably won't pay too much, but extra cash is extra cash."
Aug 15, 2023 10:22 pm
Sh$#, did I stash something there recently? Oh, I can't remember, I better go with them just to make sure. Thought Hui, as the offer was given to the others.

"Hey, mind if I join? I could use the money, and it never hurts to have more bodies with you when you want to make sure that your point is getting across." Hui said as he entered the conversation.

"I'm not afraid to bonk on some heads if need be." He then also added.

This was the kind of excitement he was looking for. Different than what he was used to.
A little side money was also a good incentive.
"Alright let's do this" He says cheerfully
"We let you do the talking and we'll stay behind you looking intimidating" He add trying to look convincing in his thug role.
Aug 17, 2023 4:02 pm
"The invitation extends to all of you, and strength in numbers is always a weighty argument," Wolf replies to Hui, then grins at all three of them. "Thanks for the enthusiasm. I'm obliged to request that you try not to provoke them too much, but between all of us: don't be afraid to knock some skulls if they end up being a problem. Let's go." He nods to the trio, then crosses the break room and walks back into the web of corridors, leading the newly acquired backup towards the construction site.
Aug 17, 2023 4:43 pm
Grant follows. He has his welding gear with him. He doesn’t want his pay docked if it gets stolen. And an incandescent flame can be pretty intimidating in the right hands
Aug 21, 2023 7:22 pm
Accepted into the group, Hui pulls out his bong and has it at his side, the thick glass should be able to handle some whacks, he thought. But hoped that we would not have to use it and risk breaking it.

"Alright, lead the way Wolf." He said.

Wolf raises an eyebrow at the bong guy calling him by name, but spares the comment. Maybe he's more infamous than he expected - which admittedly might be a problem, although for now there are more urgent things to consider, - or maybe the vaguely familiar man with a welder is to blame for this. In any case, proper introductions can wait.

He leads the group at a brisk pace, heading straight for the construction site while keeping an ear out for any sound of a commotion. There is no real point to delay the cultists behind them - and it will contradict the lie he's just told to the trio from the break room, - so he isn't too concerned with them, instead wanting to intercept whoever might already be at the site. "Matsuki," he hisses in the communicator as they cross yet another corridor, approaching the same place where they've met Connor half an hour or so ago. "What's your situation?"
Aug 24, 2023 5:07 am
OOC:
Wolf's group and Matsuki will now take the same turn.
Wolf and his new friends stepped through the temporary passage into the construction site. Half-built walls and towering scaffolding fill the place, creating convenient spots to hide in or take cover. A nearby worker on a smoke break leaning on a wall quickly put out his cigarette as the group passes by him. He soon relaxes as he find that they are not his boss.

From here, Nikolai have 3 options. Head left, forwards, or right. If he is confident, he can run ahead and cover more ground. Or he can check with the surprised worker or his new companions or with Matsuki about how to reach her.
Aug 25, 2023 11:29 am
Grant keeps up with the group, taking it all in. He’s been in these sections before a few times for his welding jobs, but it never made much of an impression until now.
Aug 25, 2023 6:04 pm
Wolf tilts his head, trying to listen for any sounds around them that do not belong, then turns on his heels and strolls confidently towards the worker. Poor man was way too quick to relax. "You!" Nikolai gets straight into the man's space, his claws glinting dangerously as he slowly unsheathes them for an intimidation factor. "We've got a report about a commotion down in these parts. Sure hope you're not a part of it, and are a law-abiding citizen who is going to answer if he's seen anyone around in these past ten minutes. Otherwise, I'm afraid," he gives a meaningful look towards his three companion, "we will have a problem."
Aug 27, 2023 9:28 am
A numbing pain spreads across the side of Matsuki's face. But there's no time to ponder. She mentally puts the pain aside and runs to the Central Construction maze. Matsuki continues running pulling Samantha along by her hand.
We need backup! She calls out after they continued to run through the construction area
She pulls out her communicator, chooses her latest contact, Wolf, and sends a voice message.
Wolf! We are.... Matsuki begins but she doesn't exactly know where she is. She looks around in order to spot any hi TS on where she is exactly. She sees a crane and some markings. Hopefully that's enough of a clue for Wolf
...in a part of the construction area marked as 'B-52'. There is a black and yellow striped crane as well as rolls of pink insulation foam standing around. We need backup. The cultists have found us and are pursuing...

Wolf scowls at the corridor to the left, then points his claws at the construction worker. "Listen to my colleague's good advice and make yourself scarce, get plausible deniability. And stay away from the discussion club."

He then steps away from the man, leaving him to ponder next actions on his own, and nods to his three companions: "Let's follow the ruckus. And if you have weapons, make sure they're loaded - although try to avoid causing serious damage unless there is a high threat. And-" His communicator beeps and Wolf pauses, frowning down at the screen as he listens to the message. "...Right. If you see a black-haired woman wearing glasses, protect her. Hey, you!" Grant pulls out the canister for the welding torch, getting it ready to swing at someone's crotch or knee cap. The more pain and more debilitating the better. He locates his firestarter in his pocket and goes through the motions mentally for activating the flame on the welder, so he can do it quickly and dangerously if needed.

Alright, so i'll step back behind Hui to buy me another second or two. Then, attach the canister to my pants, grab the wand with my right and the starter with my left. Click and fwoosh. Step back behind... his thoughts repeat as he readies himself.

Wolf and gang

Upon being told to leave, the worker that was questioned didn't waste his opportunity to quickly escape the intimidating group of 4 men. He disappears behind the doors into the maintenance corridors before he heard of the question regarding the B-52 area.

The group swiftly cuts a corner towards their left direction. As they do so, they heard the running coming from their right. Now at their present location, they can see the half-built space leading towards a large hallway of residential units. A pair of men in overalls was running and stopped infront of Wolf's group.

"Hey! Get the hell out of the way! The one with the name tag "Nickson" yells. "Who are you guys even?"
The one named "Ingo Schultz" is carrying a wrench in hand. The scent of alcohol is strong on him.

Behind Wolf's group, one of the members manage to spot the crane and the numbers "B-52" in the distance.
Matsuki

Matsuki managed to continue on, slowing a bit to take note of her surroundings. As she does so, she can hear the distant commotion again behind her. Somehow the two chasing her have been blocked by another group.
OOC:
Your turns again!
Sep 20, 2023 10:47 am
Wolf doesn't take being ordered around well in general, and even less so when combined with the stench of alcohol in his face. "How about you calm down first, instead? Running around a construction site is against safety regulations, to your information." Nikolai squints aggressively at the man and raises his hand to not-so-subtly show that he's armed. "This is your message from the administration: cease causing a disturbance right now, before noise complaints turn into an administrative charge, or we will do it for you. Both the ceasing and the charge." His tone doesn't leave doubts that the workers won't like said process.

Seeing as the 4 men won't back away, the 2 "workers" grew even more frustrated.

The one named Nickson speaks. "Oh? You think you scare me? Those bitches at the top have lost their grip on us. If they think the threat of firing us or even robbing us of our money will stop us, think again. We now serve a higher purpose..."

As he speaks, he walks over a nearby pile of pipes, and pulls one out. Turning around, he begins to beat his other palm rhythmically with it.
"One that you administration dogs will not live to see the fruits of. Get them!"

The two thugs now rush over to fight their obstacle, but the 4 men are prepared for it...

Attacking with weapons requires only 1 dice, so that means you automatically hit, but rolling 1s as damage will also reduce durability. Once all durability lost, you can't use it for any purpose until you repair/restock it. You will still count as having the item if it is not something like a bomb. If your item is fragile, rolling 1s will not reduce more points. Realistically, tools and instruments shouldn't be used as weapons, but still are usable if needed.

Wolf snarls at the attackers - wholeheartedly leaning into his moniker in this moment, - and slashes with his claws at the first man who happens to rush him. He aims for the arms, even though a part of him, a vicious hidden part remaining from his mercenary days, fully wants to skewer the brute on the blades. But he can't be fighting lethally here, and he doesn't even want to for the most part, so he pulls his strikes just enough to bleed, but not seriously injure.

"Maybe you should reconsider your higher purpose, gentlemen!" He growls as he tries to dodge the next incoming strike. "Wouldn't want yourselves to start sprouting black mold all over, would you?"
Oct 11, 2023 5:48 am
Hui Zhili macks Nickson in the face with his bong, causing teeth to fly out. Just as his furious face turns back, Wolf clawed at him, causing him to stumble back. Turns out, his wounds now is enough for him to fall to the ground defeated.

Meanwhile, the other attacker is getting assaulted by the blowtorch by Grant Traft. This guy manages to jump back, though his work clothes is slightly singed.

"Mmh! Arhh... Brhsterds..." Nickson says as he squirms on the floor.

"Black mold? What are you all... You mean you also saw the rotten birthday room in your dreams? Then why are you not wanting to join us to help the Watchers?"

Ok, so failing it means you're now Incapacitated. It takes being stabilised by someone and resting to recover.
Grant falls from the blow, similarly to the attacking Nickson. His welding torch continue to blow fire, turning the floor red with heat.

He crumples onto the ground, groaning in pain from the injuries. The bullet narrowly misses the legs of Wolf, and it came so suddenly, such that noone knows where it came from. But such an attack is likely from a sniper rifle.

"This is... not the end... My brothers will stop you..." The thug with the pipe spits out.
OOC:
If you have failed to shoot the enemy's leg, you could have shot Wolf since he is in the way.

Also, right now all your enemis are down. But you know more will come. Will you prepare to fight, or start to escape with Matsuki?

Wolf jumps backwards from the man and glares in the direction the shot came from, but doesn't look too alarmed by the sudden intervention - theorising that it is either Matsuki and her sniper talents, or someone else with a grudge against the cultists; either way, an ally. There is also a possibility that they were aiming for him but missed, but Nikolai is more concerned by three bodies on the ground.

"Your brothers better know first aid," he scoffs at the wrench man, quickly looking over his injury from afar. "Stop moving and control your breathing, and you'll be fine until they find you - or until we send guards to pick you up. Could've been faster if someone didn't knock our associate out..." Wolf walks over to examine Grant's passed out body, frowning at his prone form before tapping his communicator: "Matsuki, was this you just now?"

Wolf narrows his eyes upon seeing Samantha, turning to look at Matsuki after a moment of starting at their employer's frazzled appearance. "I'm not sure I want to know how miss O'Reilly happened to be here, but I'll wait for an explanation later." He shakes his head and leans down so he can haul unconscious Grant up, wrapping the man's arm across his shoulders. "Bong guy, help me carry him. Question: if Wolf attacks the cultists, will he be able to prevent them from going after his companions? There are three of them, but maybe there is an appropriate chokepoint somewhere? I was thinking someone who is the squishiest (Hui or Matsuki, probably) can get Grant and Samantha into maintenance tunnels while others block the way.
Oct 19, 2023 7:14 am
OOC:
Wolf can try to attack them to block them, but you're right, a chokepoint would be better as they would still try to run after the rest. The only known chokepoint is the doors to the maintainence tunnels, the construction site have many openings to allow alternate passages.

I'll say that each individual can be "engaged in melee" with an enemy to prevent them from moving without consequence. Or if you choose to stand at a chokepoint, it takes only 1 individual to prevent all enemies from passing through without consequence.
You can choose to stop all enemies from moving away with 1 individual, but it will require a saving throw to not mess up.

Wolf quietly sighs, already predicing the amount of trouble in their near future - mostly from the administration, as he's not too concerned about the cultists. Maybe O'Reilly would at least put in a good word so they don't all get arrested.

"Bring it on, bootlegger!" He snarls back at Sabe Ruth, dropping Grant off onto Hui and then whispering to the others: "Try to get to the maintenance tunnels and find the closest guard patrol - and first aid to resuscitate our friend here. I'll try to distract them, but hurry anyway."

Come on Samantha... We're gonna bring you out of here. Matsuki motivates Samatha and pulls her along trying to find a way back to the station's populated areas
Oct 30, 2023 10:33 pm
Wolf laughs in response, an amused grin stretching on his lips. "You know you didn't have to antagonize me to fight me, right?" He swings at the man with his claws, metal clashing with a scattering of sparks. "If you would have just asked, I would've been happy to fight every day! Besides, it's hardly your victory if you are having hallucination-inducing aliens on your side, is it?"

As Sabe retaliates, Nikolai dodges and jumps away, just in time to catch movement in his peripheral vision. "Here, see!" He points his claws accusingly at Petrov's twitching body. "Are you sure you don't want to ditch the aliens and have some fun crushing the upcoming undead apocalypse instead?"
OOC:
Can I block the back of the group, or would I need to disengage Sabo somehow? I'd like to do it, if possible.

OOC:
I'll say you have to disengage to protect the group's back. I'll make you not attack if so.
The group carries on through the doors into the maintenance tunnels at last. Wolf distracts Sabe with his twitching leader, where he catches up behind the the group. As he stands at the exit, the other cultist slows to a stop as the new obstacle comes between him and the escapees.

Enemy turn:

"I had no reason to fight you. During my time of ignorance, I believed I would always lose to you in a competition of technical wits or physical brawl. But now, as a student of the mysteries of the Void, I now know the potential of greatness is within my grasp, and the proof of the aliens' support shall be your fall!"
The electrician cultist spits back in glee.
"Master?" Sabe Ruth asks aloud once his opponent have ran away. He ignores his rival's jests to approach and kneel down to his bleeding Prophet.
"Petrov, are you... are you ascending? Are you finally joining your consciousness with the Watchers of the Void?"

Noone except Sabe can see this now. Petrov is twitching harder, the blood pouring from his head is turning from red to black, and black stalks start to emerge from the opened mouth of the corpse.
"Ggyes... I see... them all..." A brutally damaged voice comes out.

Seeing Wolf in the way, the bald-headed unnamed cultist pulls out a switchblade from his trouser pocket. While clearly not as deadly as the clawed gauntlets, he still charges into the human barrier, attempting to stab at any opening he sees.
OOC:
Wolf takes 1 damage.
This will be 3 rounds since Grant is KOed. 3 rounds left.
Your turns!

Within the tunnel, you will see that the unfinished section is to your right. Then to your left, the tunnel leads past the entrance to the break room, the one where Grant, Zhili and Nicky were at. You remember that there is an emergency first aid kit within one of the cabinets, and a wall device to call for emergency services, whether it is for the local doctor or the security guards.
(The Break Room is 1 Area away from the group's current Area.)

Wolf is observing Sabe Ruth and Petrov from his position at the tunnel entrance, genuinely intrigued by the interaction - but the interruption by their bald colleague forces him to pay more attention to dodging than whatever is happening with the cultist leader. He scoffs at the bald man and swings at him lightly, mostly focused on keeping him from following after Matsuki, Samantha and Hui. "You all really should reconsider your priorities," Nikolai says - without much hope for positive response - to the man. "Look, just back off before security gets here. No one's gonna care about arresting you if you lay low for a week."
OOC:
Stabby stab-stab. (You all better actually find security, I'm at 4 HP. :'D)

OOC:
Yup, 1 durability point less.
I'll also move the narrative along.
The group moves on, entering into the break room. There, no one else is immediately present. But with all the space and options to resolve the situation, the current crisis is almost over.

Enemy turn:

The bald dude scowls at the suggestion by Wolf. However, there is some hesitation underneath the determination by the cultist, as the end result of the confrontation is growing clear the further the escapees went.

"Grr... Crap..." He goes for another swing with his knife.
It manages to miss, but the back swing with the knife's butt clocks Wolf in the head. Everything seems somewhat blurring and pained.

Meanwhile, the awakening corpse starts to find its strength. Petrov pushes himself off the ground, with the help of Sabe. Looking towards the exit to the maintenance tunnels and the fighting with Wolf, Sabe speaks.
"Master, we have failed to stop them. We are now running out of time before our next work shift starts. Plus, you have... you have become..." He losts his words to describe what he is now seeing.

Petrov, with his eyes and mouth leaking black fluids, speaks.
"I have ascended, as you said boy. My body is now the gateway to our voidly supporters. Our plans must skip to the end. Humanity will never accept our dream goals... Eh... Cough cough!" Black spit fly onto the face of Sabe, who flinched from it but decides not to complain.

Players' turn!:
OOC:
It is now 4 rounds since Grant's KO.
Who wants to use the medkit, and who wants to call security?
etc etc.

As for Wolf, he is now at 0 hp, and gets a scar. It is:
Hit in the head, spitting bloody teeth and looking a mess until someone treats you. Disadvantage on conversational WIL saves until then.

Wolf is not KOed yet.

Wolf grunts, rubbing at his brow with the back of his gauntlet as his vision swims slightly from the force of the blow. The hand comes back with a bloody smudge, and he scoffs at it contemplatively. There is a rush of adrenaline accompanying the sensation of pain, prompting him to continue fighting, and he's still standing and in combat condition. But his companions seem to have made it out okay, so mission is essentially accomplished - and dying to some moldy aliens is not the way Wolf would prefer to go. Speaking of...

He leans slightly to look around the knife-wielding man at Ruth and Petrov, grimaces at the new state of the cultist leader, and calls to the other electrician: "Sabe, are you seriously alright with becoming a mindless body possessed by an alien parasite?! I made some bad life choices myself, but this is beyond ridiculous! Also, rain check on that fight." He waves at the man, ducks under the knife of the other cultist, and dashes into the maintenance tunnels.
OOC:
Disengage and retreat before I actually end up KO'd.

Matsuki points at the cabinet with the med kit.
There's some emergency medicine in there. Quick! Stabilize your friend! I'm gonna call back up.
She props Samantha up against the wall and the proceeds to the emergency phone. She takes it and starts to speak
This is Matsuki Magumi. We are in the construction area. A gang of about five thugs is trying to kill us. Officer Samantha is with us and injured. We request immediate and urgent backup
Nov 9, 2023 5:22 am
Wolf jumps back from the fight and runs through the doors into the tunnels. The last thing he can atleast see from the cultists is that they are no longer mad, but anxious at the understanding that they are defeated today. What happens next, Wolf won't know.
Battle is over!

Wolf enters into the breakroom, seeing the rest of his gang safely either making calls to security or patching up injured allies. He may try to stand on guard in case the cultists may try to follow after him, but after a good while, nobody have come into the tunnel.

Just as Grant Traft regains consciousness and can stand on his own, though still in pain, two security officers burst into the break room. Pointing their tasers around, they see that no threat is present and calms down.

"Madam, what is the situation now?"
A male black officer asks Matsuki.

Samantha goes ahead to speak too, towards the female officer
"I am currently alright, thanks to these heroes. But the thugs that tried to kindap me are still out there. Hurry and look for them, they have a secret meeting place in one of the residential units in the construction site. Don't worry, I am protected by these brave workers here..."

The female officer nods and leaves into the maintenance tunnels towards the site while calling on her fellow officers on her radio. The black officer remains on standby.

Samantha then turns to her heroes.
"I want to properly thank you for rescuing me. I know I promised payment for helping with investigating the cult, but I now wish to add on an additional bonus for making sure I wasn't sacrificed or tortured in time. I underestimated the audacity of the cult to go after me, but I will be sure that won't happen again with having security accompanying me at all times from now on."

The payment for Matsuki and Wolf will be 200 credits each for the original work.
Then 200 credits to each member of the new party as reward for the rescue. There will be additional local support of free items or service for each member too, roughly worth 100 credits.
OOC:
You can RP a bit, then let me know when you're ready to move on.
I'll also give you options, you can choose to try to help the guards with hunting down the surviving cultists, or rest to full recovery to start the next chapter.

Nikolai lingers by the tunnel for a few more moments to ensure that none of the cultists followed them, then rejoins the others. He finds the closest free horizontal space - which happens to be a table, - and sits there, examining his gauntlets and half-listening to Samantha communicating with the security guards. He only lifts his head when she addresses the group, nodding in acknowledgement. "This is all very nice and I'm not going to turn down extra credits, but," Wolf gestures towards the tunnel, "I believe your priority should be not personal security, but stopping the cult as quick as possible. After you all retreated, Petrov - the cult leader my colleague shot, - regenerated and reanimated." He grimaces. "If you can call it that. All black mold, but conscious and seemingly sane, much more so than the ones we have reported after the expedition. They're not going to stop spreading this... thing."

He pauses thoughtfully, moving the gauntlets so the claws scrape against each other - a sound calming to him, but likely not so much to others; not that Wolf particularly cares. "I would advice you to actually let people know about what's happening. Too many times organizations fall because they refuse to declare an emergency on time, and we don't know how quickly this mold can spread. At the very least officially ban the club and make it known that it is dangerous to associate with it, nightmares or not."

Wolf doesn't wait for acknowledgement of his offer and leaves Samantha to think it over, sliding off the table to head to where Matsuki, Grant, Hui and Nicky are. He inclines his head towards the last three. "I do apologize for the slight deception about my position as a security officer, but I'm sure you see why I wanted to recruit help against these opponents." Nikolai doesn't sound too sorry, instead he sounds almost amused as he winks at the trio. "Didn't lie about the reward though, so hopefully it makes us even. Thanks for the help either way, gentlemen."

Satisfied with his communications for today, Wolf then says his goodbyes to everyone - offering to reconvene later with whoever is willing to continue working together, - and heads for the station's workshops, intending to repair his equipment and then probably sleep for a day. Maybe even find Connor, if the man isn't to put off by the fact that his workplace is now going to be swarming with security for a while thanks to Wolf and his companions. A can of soda would be nice too...
OOC:
I'm resting. Does full recovery include stats, or just HP?

And can you let me know how much would it be to heal my scar? RAW Medic costs 600, but does just healing a scar cost the same?

I'd also like to buy these! I don't know which are possible on this station, so just let me know if something isn't, please.
- Repair my gauntlets for 40 credits (20 per mark).
- Tactical Armor for 150 credits.
- Modify my gauntlets with Penetrating "ammo" for 160 (if it's possible to have not ammo, but a penetrating effect for claws) and/or Smart weapon for 160.
- Thermal goggles for 100. Can I make my glasses into them, maybe? So they are both Thermal and a Personal item?
- Pain Reliever for 100. (Is it one use, or more?)
- Electronic Tool Kit for 300. (I noticed that I don't have it despite being an electrician.)

The total is 1010. With -100 for our freebie, it's 910. If Medic costs 600, I'll probably drop some of these...

Well spoken Wolf. This club is dangerous and has to be stopped NOW. Matsuki says while slowly sliding down the wall she's leaning against.
She presses her palms against her forehead.
I nearly wish to be back in pris... back at home. she sighs.

After a few minutes of silence she stands up and follows Wolf out of the room. The security guards seem to have everything under control. So no reason for her to stand in the way. Especially in her weakened state.
OOC:

Matsuki will buy:

Repair Invasion tools - 20 credits
Flashbang grenade - 100 credits

So minus 20 credits with the 100 credits equipment bonus

Grant can finally focus again. He’s felt a lot of pain and jostling for the last bit but it’s all a fugue. He can’t remember anything that happened after the attack.

He clutched his head and says "What’d I miss?"

Samantha eyes widens with horror at Wolf's explanation of the urgency of the situation. She turns to the remaining guard, and barks out to him.

"Shit! You there! Call for an emergency lockdown! Call for more back up, whatever! We now have a biohzard leak on our hands in additional to this cult... terrorist group running about. Please tell your security friends of this danger of alien mold contamination in the residential development site. Meanwhile, I need to have a meeting with the old man. This time, he should be unable to deny the severity of our threat. But first... we need sanitisation."

Samantha called up a sanitisation crew. It took awhile for them to arrive, and it took more time for them to do tests and on the spot cleaning. After confirming that everyone is safe, they move on to sterilising the work place. A quick report by the security guards revealed that the thugs are yet to be found, but a trail of black spots leads out into the exterior of the colony base. From there, the dusty earth makes finding their path difficult. Also, onsite medics have carted the bodies of the injured brutes to their clinics.

In the meantime, everyone has the freedom to do whatever they like for the moment. Except that now the guards are more active, doing checks on everyone while selected staff help with doing additional safety health checks. This have cause some frustration with delays of doing work, but the seemingly absent presence of club recruitment and The Face-induced nightmares have made everyone slightly calmer.
OOC:
The 600 credits is for a week of hired work. One day is then 85 credits. Then I'll say one time treatment is about 30 credits.

I have decided that the treatment will be free.
And resting for 1 week will fully recover both HP and Attributes.

For Wolf:
1) Repairing is correct, it will be 40 credits
2) Modifications I will consider how it works more. I think I will do Penetrating and Smart modifications to cost 80 credits each, but stacking will make it 80x2x2-80=240 credits. Wolf can do the modifications himself, so the additional cost is this way. Though roll Dex save to make it without problems. Or pay total 320 credits to avoid this risk.
(Note laser weapons are experimental here, and so have risks to over heat.)
3) Tactical Armour: 150. ok
4) Electronic Tool Kit: 300. ok
5) Thermal goggles: 100. I'll accept you modifying it on your personal item.
6) Pain Reliever: 100. You can use it multiple times. Though I will decide how it get depleted. Likely not as fast as 3 times.
Likely Total: 930 credits
Other people may choose to share the cost. Or Wolf may acquire debt or remove items.

For Matsuki:
Your list is fine.

During your rest, you will be told about the recent research discoveries on the mold. This mold was collected off your vacsuits when your team returned from the exploration of The Face.

OOC:
I actually have the credits to cover all the costs myself (I have 1230 cr.), but I'm tempted to do the check just because it's a risky - and thus fun - option. Odds might not be in my favor, but at least if Wolf burns himself it'll make him more intimidating. XD

Also to my teammates: if I may, I suggest someone buys a medical scanner to detect the mold. It doesn't really fit Wolf and my inventory is already too full to use it effectively, but it might be worth to have in case we ever need to check if someone is infected?
