Mission 1.3: Black Party Clean Up
Be sure to read and follow the guidelines for our forums.
Also she will buy a medkit and a reinforced vacsuit. She will also get her sniper rifle repaired. She will pocket the rest of the money for now
So when you have a long rest, you gain back all lost HP. If HP was full, then restore 1d6 of an attribute. If you want to recover everything, then it shall be a full week of rest. You all can decide to rest for a week then meet with Oddball just in time. But note that something might happen during that time.
For now I'd be for resting just a night. How about you @FlyingSucculent ?
And I'd also like to rest only for a night for now - with personal item heal, if possible. My current Willpower is 2. :'D
He probably didn't help the situation by sticking with Matsuki, but she seemed like a pleasant - and not too talkative, - person, and he was interested in perhaps working with her further. Unfortunately this also meant giving up his preferred dining routine of enjoying his meals alone, since they agreed to catch up here later; but hopefully his demeanor will at least discourage anyone from pestering them.
"Is there a soda machine anywhere?" Nikolai looks around the dining hall with mild interest, having avoided visiting it most of the time. Doesn't seem like it changed much, but who knows, maybe they finally have something to his taste...
She takes a portion of today's menu, some strange yellow dessert creme and sits down at the least crowded table. Only one man is sitting there. He seems to be very... relaxed you guess and smells of.... herbs?
"Hi y'all, you look like you haven't slept in a week, haha, do you want some apples? They are good for that you know?"
He takes a couple of the four apples he has on his tray and give one to each.
"Yeah, these are niiiice. Better to sleep, but they'll do the trick until you get needed rest."
Then, he notices he hasn't introduce himself yet..
"Oh, by the way... I'm professor Oddball" says with a grin.
In fact Matsuki just wants to silently eat her meal but she has the feeling that the professor will just keep talking whether she says something or not. So she decides to keep up with the small talk, if for no other reason than to steer the flow of conversation
So you're a professor? What's your field of expertise? And what brings you here?
He returns from the dispenser with a haul of three bottles and drops onto a seat opposite Oddball. "Understatement," he comments at the man's remark on their visible lack of sleep and picks up the offered apple with a nod of thanks, biting into it while simultaneously opening his soda. After he succeeds in this, he adds an introduction, as an afterthought: "Wolf."
"Oh, I'm an engineer, I build and fix staff, you know? Like, all kinds of machines! " He smiles openly as he clearly enjoys talking about it "Like I once designed a space station for a different star system. Another time, I built an escape pod from scratch, that was crazy man! They had old rubble and sheets of metal and old computers, and needed to leave in a month.. hahaha... The ride was NOT fun, I can tell you that, but they landed alive!"
"What bring me here... You mean WHO, right? Haha, the bosses brought me here. They seem to have plenty of things to fix here. That's cooool for me, plenty of fun project to work in... But just arrived today, so haven't started yet. How about you? Who brought you here? And what encounters were you on? I thought this was a peaceful place"
@Scrol you can choose to recover 1d6 Will for a day of rest. 1 week rest is full recovery. However, your HP must recover first before your Attributes.
1 day rest/long rest requires 6 hours of eating, drinking and sleeping. I'll make it cost 1 credit to buy food, and another 1 credit for a day of renting a room, if you want to. You can also choose to share a room, but you may not have enough beds(I won't make it mechanically different, so I guess that won't matter), or find a corner of the base to sleep in, which have some risk.
Edit: wait, did Nikolai lose hp that time in your fight?
No you did not. Alright then. Roll 1d6 to recover your Wills, and let me know how you will go about sleeping.
Then he sees the gauntlet pulling on and off its claws... "That's so cool man!Wait, are you using the movement of the fingers, or servoes to control the claws? How do you power them?"
But his curiosity about the gauntlets was cut short with the mention of The Face.
"A face? Sure man, we all got one. I mean humans, right? I don't know about, like, beings from other worlds... maybe they got more? Or less? Or, well, I haven't met any non-human so I wouldn't know. So many possibilities man!
But did you say about aliens and vanquishers"
What I can or rather should tell you is that you have to be very careful around here. It seems that some people here are... let's say loosing their mind. Like in a cult if you understand
Rolls
Regen WIL - (1d6)

No you did not. Alright then. Roll 1d6 to recover your Wills, and let me know how you will go about sleeping.
He then leans back on his chair, listening to Matsuki and their new acquaintance discussing the Face and their eventful expedition. He nods in support when the former mentions being careful, and supplies his own advice once she grows silent: "Avoid skulls as well, if by chance you encounter one." Nikolai pauses, then clarifies as an afterthought: "Exposed skulls, that is."
He thinks for a moment, trying to read behind lines... Before answering.
"Too many advises to be careful, right? But something tells me you will go back to danger soon... and see more skulls... and you may need help, right?"
Then to Wolf...
"Oh, and I love you going old-school, full mechanical for an electrician, I'd love to check them closer if it is ok with you, and we have time".
And so he finishes his meal, and draw a bit of chewing magic.
If Professor Oddball just recently arrived she can at least be sure that he isn't compromised by the cult or the aliens.
Okay. I think we could use someone who is able to repair stuff. Or circumvent... barriers. I don't know what our next mission will be but I'll encourage our boss that you can come with us
The current side job is to continue to investigate the cult. Or if the party doesn't think that's important, they can choose to fully recover first then find a local job to pass the time until something more urgent comes up.
Locations: (Each of these places have people, and some may be unauthorised for the party to enter yet. But sneaking in is posible.)
- Spaceship hangar
- Vehicle garage
- Laboratories and clinics
- Cafeteria/Lunch room(you are here)
- Technician's maze
- Indoor park and market
- Offices
- Mining test site
- Construction site
Options to investigate:
- The thugs that beat up the priest that was with you is still in the clinic.
- Nikolai can recall that Sabe Ruth, his talkative gauntlet-design stealer, is said to be a member of the cult.
Any another questions, do ask.
"We may go to the indoor park, and check the market. We could probably get some clues. Shall we?"
Well, any start is better than none. So let's check out the market
Let's pose as "People who are seeking a way in their life". Maybe we'll get approached by some strange cult leader and get some informations...?
Lead the way,.... Professor
Oddball finishes him meal and leads them out of the canteen and into the park. While walking he asks about the the local climate... and pays attention to everyone they cross path with.
If Oddball wants to know the weather climate of the planet, it is the usual drab grey of clouds, but the sun seems to shine through better than usual, so the scenery of black and grey stones and dirt is visible out the windows with minimal shadows cast by the hills.
If its social climate, the people are quiet, with some looking even depressed. Collectively, everyone seems to have some level of fear and nervousness. A clear lack of friendly warmth is present in this place.
At the park, the glass roof shows the starry sky peeking through thick clouds. A variety of plants and trees are decorating the few patches of soil here, with benches running along the paths. Stalls selling "street" food and assorted equipment line the walls of this enclosed structure. The owners of the shops looking bored as no customers are presently queuing.
Here, 3 groups of people can be seen. A pair of players in casual clothes having a focused match of a classical board game on stone table and benches. A trio of workers maintaining the underground drainage system at a section of the park. And a group of four individuals sitting around a table talking with one another, with the topic of sleep and dreams.
He approaches the group with confident step and... "You too had strange dreams? Oh my, you won't believe what I had to endure!" He approaches even more, almost to the point of sitting with them "It was like a dungeon, you know? And black shadows, like veeery dark shadows would walk around with silver mouthes and eyes, but they just laughed at someone, didn't say nothing really. Quite scary if you ask me! Then they would open their mouths as to eat her, but didn't. Then a skull appeared in the middle and started vomiting blood... but it was like old blood, you know? Like, very dark and smelling terrible. I tried to wake up, but the shadows wouldn't want me to." Oddball takes a handkerchief and dries his forehead... "Only later the skull laughed and I could wake up... I'm glad I have had no more of those..."
Oddball, while telling the tale, looked carefully at each of the four persons. He wanted to know who could be a good source of information, but also who were more easily scared.
The 30 year old man in a blue shirt and jeans listen with wide eyes and a slightly opened mouth.
The 40 year old man in a red shirt with glasses and shorts furrows his eyes with a downturned mouth.
The 30 year old lady in a casual green dress, has a similar expression as the red man, but she taps her finger lightly on the table.
The 50 year old man in a grey jacket listens with an opened eyed look that might be amusement or surprise.
The red man speaks first. "That's it? You stopped having those dreams? Sounds like baloney. Yours is the worst sounding one, but doesn't seem like you're as badly affected as us."
The grey man counters. "Now, now, Damien, you know you shouldn't judge other's dreams. Let's all trust that each one that we shared is real and that we coped with it in our own ways."
The green woman now comments. "I think it is true. I mean, compared to some rumours I hear, the shadows and skulls imagery are a huge coincidence lately. I think there may be some connections..."
The blue man lastly comments too. "I... um... think I need to go now. I think your nightmares are going to be shared with me tonight. I better take my pills..."
The grey man gently puts his hand out. "Woah, calm down there, Barry. We haven't fully sought out your issues yet, so sit with us a little longer, please."
Barry was about leave his seat, but then reluctantly settles back down.
To the red man.. "Damien, right? You know man? You are right, it has been once since I arrived a couple of days ago, and have been taking my medicine, I'm not planning on having them daily! Hahaha" He laughed, but it was clearly a nervous laugh.. not so much as entretaining but as hoping it won't happen again.
Then he continues more to the green lady and the gray man "I take it you also shared similar dreams? Do you know what this could mean? You also mentioned connections..." His face clearly puzzled as what those connections could be.
The gray man hand waves Damien's comment before answering Oddball. "Yes sir, we have a belief that our dreams, or rather nightmares, have some similarities and may have a connection. Of course, our collected data is very limited, but I feel a few of us has made our theories on this. Linda, why don't you share yours first."
Then Linda, the green dressed woman, next speaks. "Thanks Gabrien. I have been gathering stories from my close co-workers and from chatter made by the maintainence folks. Their dreams always end the same. They see some scene that should be normal for them, but they feel like their surroundings gets uncomfortably darker and then either white eyes or faces or skulls can be seen or felt watching them in the darkness or shadows. Sounds like too much of a coincidence to me, so I went to ask around a little more. Turns out Gabrien is also well aware of the strange coincidences. So we decide we could have casual small gatherings like this to both understand this mystery better and give therapy to others.
For me, I believe there is nothing supernatural about this. We got to stop spreading the rumours that there was something spiritual about this, otherwise irrationality and further distress may grow and further multiply this effect. Which leads to my firm belief that all this is hysteria. And this hysteria is caused by two factors. One is that the supernatural interpretation of the "face" site photograph have made people grow paranoid, and theories about an alien god being present by some of our less rational employees have made it worse.
Another factor I believe is not well confirmed yet, but I think it should be the air that we are now breathing. We don't get a lot of details on the mechanics of how the filtration system works for our dome interiors, but I heard experimental cheap chemicals are used. Could be that a side effect of this method is causing slight brain poisoning to some of our staff. Mostly the maintainence crew and sanitary workers. They seem to experience the effects the worst. The researchers and department managers have either no such nightmares or its very minimal. Now, I will not make a complaint this, because as I said, its just a theory so far."
Gabrien, the grey clothed man, nods. "Yes, that sounds right. Our poor co-workers are suffering from nightmares of a watching darkness. But what I disagree with is the rejection of a spiritual perspective. You see, working and living here is honestly no joy. The sky is always black, and the ground is always grey. This can affect the mind of a man, and their soul too. I am no priest, but I feel that I need to do my part to step in to help with a wiser touch. The maintainence, the sanitary, and all other roles that requires one to work under the pyramidal leadership of an uncaring super organisation, to be faced with the hardest and dirtiest of labours. I believe the Face's discovery is now causing an awakening of the devils inside. Devils, that could be eased out with careful enlightenment..."
"Ah, no offense, but I am not the religious type. But that might work for some affected. Speaking of which, Lenny, which of us do you think sounds more right to you?" Linda asks to the blue man, Lenny. He simply looks back and forth from Linda and Gabrien and whimpers a "I-I don't really know..."
Regardless, talking is not what Wolf does, so instead he remains content watching - watching the maintenance workers, specifically. Just in case there is anything of note in what they are doing; sewers are, after all, a favorite access point of malicious aliens in sci-fi movies.
Well Ms. Linda. I think your theory is quite appealing. I also heard that there are places that emit black spores in the wilderness surrounding us. If the air filtration isn't working that good I think these spores could affect people. Just like you know.... those mushroom drugs some people used to take in those old movies...
She looks around.
Maybe we can convince the authorities that a stricter air filtration protocol is needed she remarks with her eyebrows furrowed
Welcome back FlyingSucculent. Hope you're better now ^^
As Nikolai implies that he wish to speak with the new spiritual movement to join them, Gabrien, the man in grey shirt, answers amused.
"Oh?... You're interested in the Visage Conversation Club?"
He glances at his surroundings for a moment before continuing.
"Conveniently for you, I am actually a member of it. I only joined quite recently, but I am already allowed to look for new members. Why it is very secretive and hard to find is because the management views it as too much of a distraction from work. Plus, the discussions that goes on in their meetings are very unconventional, but if true, would undermine everything that we know. But you folks look open-minded enough and curious about our nightmares, so I will invite you to our next meeting. It will happen in about an hour, right at that sitting area over there."
As Gabrien shares this, Linda can be seen rolling her eyes and shaking her head.
Once Matsuki and Oddball rejoin him, Wolf gestures towards the workers examining the vent. "If it's an hour to the meeting, we might as well ask around about the spore situation in the meantime. If this alien creature is doing the same here as it did at The Face, we better prevent it as soon as possible." He pauses, thinking. "Do you remember the communicator the alien mentioned? The one which is now with "a human woman"? We can try to find it later as well, once we're done here."
Well I'm all with you in regards of looking into the spore situation. I can do without another spore zombie apocalypse
As the group approach the three workers, one of them take notice and asks aloud in a gruff voice. "What do you guys want? We are busy repairing this drain. Apparently someone dumped damaged batteries in here and now we have to replace the pipes all day."
Yeah. The filters seem to be malfunctioning I've heard. Someone should really do something about that but as always the ones up there... Matsuki points in the direction of the administration offices ...as usual don't care about us. So we, the common people, have to fix their shit. Right, yeah?
"The air filters for our base? Yeah, I heard a buddy of mine mentioned something about it before. He was responsible for installing a few of them. They had new experimental components, and the scientists were anxious to ensure that the machines were handled carefully. From what I heard, the science folks had conflicts with it being used, but the issue was settled in that it works and is safe. Beyond that, I haven't heard of complaints about the air being poisonous. If that is the case, then our doctors should be aware of that problem too. Sure, we can look into it, but upper management or the developers of the filter system may be unhappy if we start an unauthorised maintainence inspection."
I'd love to have a look at them
But I do have something else that is unusual. A buddy of mine occasionally complains of sleeplessness and having hallucinations while at work. But recently that issue changed when he went to a group called the Visage Conversation Club. He now not only says he is cured but he is now protected by someone called the Watcher. He kept smiling the whole day, a sharp contrast to a fortnight ago. Whatever is going on, that does sound unusual to you right? Though if there is something I want upper management to help with, is giving us more pay, or at least more psychological support. If things grow worse around here... then I guess a revolution may happen. And not by people who are stable, if you get what I am saying."
To Matsuki: "I don't have one with me, but I know if you really want to find any, it could be troublesome. Each dome and corridor have at least one installed. If we help you... it might cost you to make it worth our trouble. But if you want to try to look at one yourself, I know a section of the place that unlikely to have people passing by to catch you messing with the equipment. To the north, the base extension is still under construction, but some completed chambers, such as the utility room, are there with machines installed but not in use. I believe there, you can have a peek, but don't get caught by any of the workers or they will ask for your authorisation and kick you out.
Another option is to look at the science labs. The prototype locker room should have some filters and parts the creator of the filter still keeps. The question is, how will you get the keys to it? Good luck convincing him to let you study his prized project."
Nikolai then looks at Matsuki, silently waiting to see if there is anything else she wants to ask before they leave.
She brings a bit of distance between herself and the works and then says to Nikolai.
Well. Let's have a look at the northern construction size. Someone seems to be way too keen on hiding those filters.... Agreed?
He looks back at the group of people sitting around the table, presumably still discussing their weird dreams and their respective theories about said dreams' origins. "Or we can wait until the club picnic happens and go after the filters later. Not sure if it'll make much difference, but we might miss the meeting if we go breaking-and-entering now."
She lets out a big yawn.
Thanks. I'll make it quick
Matsuki hurries to the cantina...
Note: 1 Watch = 6 hours.
I will assume you will stay for the meeting time.
"Greetings, Mister Petrov! I have some poor colleagues in need of the enlightenment that you offer. It is the usual; nightmares of darkness or watching eyes. I hope they too can be a member of your club."
Petrov offers a filthy grin as his head slowly turns to face everyone that is new. When he speaks, his voice is coarse but has a presence of power too.
"I am glad. I am glad for more sheep to come into my fold. Our Watcher blesses us with more lost souls to salvage. Come, help me up to allow my voice to reach all who will listen..."
Gabrien and another member support Petrov as he climbs onto a table facing the wide pathway of the park...
I'm not the religious type either Matsuki whispers. I say we let him talk and then we'll see how the crowd reacts. Better not cause any waves now...
"Greetings, my dear children. I am excited to share good news of our recent developments, but first things first, allow me to introduce myself to our new listeners. I know I just called you children, even if some of you may be about my age or even older too. But I consider myself as a father figure, considering that I am the creator of this blossoming club. Now, you may have heard all sorts of rumours about what this club is, but the truth is that it have never strayed from its original mission; to create a welcoming space to discuss the true nature of The Face. Unfortunately, our club activities are not welcomed, but now that we are well-grown, we too have grown unafraid of hiding our voice. We mean no harm to the status quo, but just to share the news that the secrets our overlords have been hiding from us may not remain as secrets much longer."
He says this last point while looking directly at the displeased guards.
The hooded prophet continues.
"I shall share of my humble beginnings again. I was once Petrov, a nobody janitor that hopes for a better pay by being stranded in this glass cage on a dark and dusty rock. One day, I received news that my wife passed away back on Darst, and I fell into a terrible grief. I had nightmares of my wife coming to visit me on this station, complaining to me that I have failed to be with her for the past decade. One night, when I have burnt my salary on the over-charged alcohol, I think I was about to take my life, but I was saved at the last minute by a vision. I saw the ghost of a man in a vacsuit, and he told me he have chosen me for an important mission. He told me that aliens exist, and that they are like that of benevolent angels. Their only desire for Mankind is to ascend us, to make us join them in their heavenly choirs amongst the stars. He appointed me to be the speaker for these aliens, a prophet for the angels, if you will. He then gave me proof that what he say is true because he himself have ascended, and now offers me a part of his mortal body that he no longer needs so that we may continue to be in contact.
Children. This is a miracle that I had been forced to keep a secret about for a month now, and it is now revealed for you listeners to know. With this knowledge, I too can explain why you have been having nightmares. They are the divine visions sent to you by the aliens. Ones that show hints of their glorious forms. Be not afraid of the darkness, or the eyes, or the skulls, for they are the faces the Watchers present to us mortals. They are a simplified form of the bigger truth of what they are..."
A wave of fear creeps out amongst the listeners, hallucinations start to form at the corners of their eyes. Nikolai and Matsuki sensed it too. Unfortunately for the electrician, he also saw the shapes of unnatural smiles.
"We should leave," he grits through his teeth to Matsuki, instinctively taking a step back as the feeling of being watched - of being smiled at - slowly grows more unbearable. "Pretty sure if we want to stay sane, we better to avoid talking with this man. I vote breaking-and-entering over listening to this any longer. Also, security might be distracted now..." He takes a deep, slightly shaky breath. "I can't stay here."
Edit: whoops, did disadvantage wrong, it should've been h1.

Nikolai is now unfocused, getting disadvantage to saves for 6 turns.
Matsuki now have ran away, will recover in 5 turns.
With the 2nd crisis event, you get to roll 2d6 for HP and d20 for 2 attributes each. If rolled higher, it is your new max value for HP or +1 for the attribute.
"The Watchers is what we call them, for they watch everything we do. Their eyes are upon all, and their touch is felt through our sleep visions. I see some of you are starting to see them too. Isn't it amazing? They are not physically here, but they communicate their will through our minds in this way for the uninitiated. If you want to stop seeing their basic forms, we can train you to understand their truth more privately..."
A few listeners seem to be having a breakdown, while others including the security personnel, just fidget in their place, clearly uncomfortable but trying to remain cool. As for Matsuki walking away, she seems to have witnessed something from her memory. Something that she wants to take a moment to reflect on by leaving the indoor park section.

With that grim understanding, what might be the next course of action now?
Concentrate, Matsuki. You can panic later, for now you need to keep yourself together she thinks to herself
Well... she says with a slightly shaking voice ...we do know now that this guy is probably "the skull" that this being in the ruins mentioned. What do we do now? Have look at the filters?
"We might as well. If the commotion in the square attracts security's attention, it will only be easier to sneak in - and if we're caught, we can appeal to being sent on a mission. We already have results to show for it, so that's leverage." Wolf looks around, frowns and sighs. "...I have no idea where we are, haven't worked in this sector before. Let's go find an evacuation plan and figure out how to get to the under construction section."
Matsuki follows Wolf's advice and looks for a map of the area...
It appears that the North will link with the nearby mining operations, while the West will have more residences and other facilities.
At the border, there isn't any guards, perhaps they are all busy handling the potential commotion at the park, or even that they doubt anyone would want to illegally intrude.
As the Spacers make their way worming around the stacks of materials and scaffolding, they can hear a set of boots making their way towards them...

Nikolai's acting as a safety inspector is really convincing, as the worker, looking to be aged about 30, gets anxious trying to answer the unhappy inspector's questions and accusations. Apparently, the safety regulations for the facility construction here are indeed lax, as the worker only apologised and asked what he can do for Nikolai. The worker is trying to keep Nikolai from entering deeper by saying that there is no need to. Whether he doesn't want to trouble his boss, or he is a member of the cult hiding inside, is difficult to tell right now.
Matsuki can choose to move ahead within the hidden narrow path as the worker is fully distracted.
She keeps her ears open in case the worker pushes past Wolf
When the worker pauses in his apologies and asks what he can do for him, Nikolai makes a show of looking through his bag, frowning slightly. "Hmm, I suppose there is something else I'd like to ask. It's not particularly in *my* job description, but some of my colleagues from mental health department mentioned that a lot of personnel in nearby sections has been complaining about insomnia and auditory hallucinations lately. Have you encountered anything similar on this site? Perhaps more workers than usual calling in sick?"
Meanwhile, Nikolai will get a response from the scrawny worker.
"Ah? Oh, yes. I do hear about quite a number of my colleagues feeling awful. I personally don't get it, but it seems to affect people badly enough to change their personalities. Some more depressed than usual, or maybe more scared. Some have become more confident in a... strange way. I think it is because of some club activity they are joining. So far, they are not willing to call in sick, since they act as if it is nothing. But those that are concerned talk about some kind of repeating nightmare.
But between you and me, I recommend that you don't ask anyone else about this issue. Some will start looking at you like a ghost, or maybe they will ask you to join a secret meeting with their friends. I don't care for club activities that involve topics unrelated to me."
Hopefully, if there is some connection between the Visage Conversation Club and this worker, then at least Wolf has convinced him that he - and the station superiors - don't care about the issue more than to meet the requirements. Always important to downplay an investigation.
"Now, what can you tell me about the conditions of work in here? Any specific complaints about ventilation, safety, shift time? Don't worry, it's all anonymous - if there is anything you'd like to change, we'll do our best to accommodate."
Those who complained about this the most seem to join this club. They already have their own circle of friends, but they seem to be more... unfriendly than usual. I mean that they collectively choose to do less work and making us young ones handle more of the work. If you do do something about this, please don't mention me, or else... they will make me take a week off."
He gave quick winks before continuing.
"Anything else? As for the ventilation, we had to handle working with the outside air when installing the new sections. So we had to get used to the unfiltered air. I am still not fully used to it, so I mainly work in installing the electrical systems. Even if I do this, I am not told everything about the new machines. Especially the machine responsible for filtering the air. That is top secret, so I can't touch such things. Only the architectural higher ups get to understand how they all work.
As for safety, we are pretty lax. So I am kind of surprised to see an inspector like you here too. I guess our standards will have to return to being strictor, huh? And our shift time is decent. Because we are not in a rush to complete our project, our seniors get to push their work onto us without suspicions from the management. Oh well, such is life on the frontier..."
Meanwhile, Matsuki goes to the room with tubes connecting it. Peeking inside, it is lit up by a dim light bulb. Along the walls, the tubes go through a series of bulky and boxy devices. The one that stands out the most is smaller than the others, with ribbons of black and yellow stripes, and warning signs not to touch the equipment otherwise the worker can be fired.
Before she fully step in, Matsuki the corporate spy manages to spot a figure slumped against one of the bulky machines. The man is wearing the construction clothes, and a bottle is held in his hand. He seems to be asleep, his snores hidden under the motor noise.
Eventually she decides to try to open the filter container as silently as possible.

"No problem - as I said, this is all anonymous." He nods in response to the worker's wink, then looks up at the closest ventilation vent thoughtfully. "Glad to hear the air isn't causing any abnormal problems here. After the whole situation with the last expedition, some of the doctors are concerned about fungi spores and the like - I hope I don't need to remind you to take proper sanitary precautions when dealing with the planetary atmosphere, so I'll spare you the usual lecture. Way your hands, clean your equipment, all that. Also maybe avoid the weird club." He leans closer to the man, conspiratorially lowering his voice. "Between you and me, I am mostly here as a token effort from the superiors, so they probably won't press on it too hard, if at all - but between spending money on better equipment or calling a club the root of all evil, we both know what they'll choose."
Wolf straightens up, looking around to note how far away they are from the direction Matsuki went in at this point. Should he try to go after her? If she is in trouble, maybe he can pull the "I'm the authority, give the perpetrator to me" play. But on the other hand, giving her more time might be a better idea... "Alright, I think I'm done with almost everything here. Although..." He makes a show of glancing up and down the man. "You said that you install electrical systems? I am a little bit of an electrician myself, you know. Want to grab a cup of coffee and discuss how bad electrical equipment on this station is? We can call it an extended interview, so our superiors don't get all bothered." Wolf tries to be suave. Keyword, tries.
A writing on the side of the filter frame is made in marker: "Property of Dr Wu Kehui. Please do not steal my design. I can send you to jail back home."
There are also various tubes carrying liquids that connects into or out of a few of the framed sections. Further labeling done in cursive marker writing can be seen on opaque scotch tapes.
While the device is new to her, she is able to tell that one of the wafers are missing due to an empty slot.
The worker, whose name is Conor McCarthy, as seen on his tilted name tag, agrees to follow with the friendly inspector for the coffee and interview.
I don't particularly have anything specific in mind for Conor - mostly just distracting him from the construction site, maybe flirt a bit to support the cover. Do you want me to play it out, RoAries, or should I just wait until Matsuki is out? I'm fine with both (although I can't write flirting to save my life).
She looks around the room and at the worker whether she can find the missing filter wafer. She also investigates the notes on the wafers. Maybe she can deduce which of the wafers is missing

But I guess there probably isn't much more to see if there isn't a surprise filter wafer somewhere in the room
I have to say, it would be interesting if something actually come out of it and Wolf got a little bit of a weak spot. I am not directly saying that it would be fun if the Visage Conversation Club kidnapped an Irishman, but...
While having the chat in the corner(or at the cafeteria), it seems that the club's leader's preaching have ended, and now the gathered members old and new start to make their way pass them. They seem to be heading to the direction of the north, where the base expansion sites are. That could be a coincidence, or maybe not...

...Not nice enough to completely distract him from his mission, however. As he notices in his peripheral vision that the cultists start moving out, he excuses himself for a moment - claiming he wants to go buy a can of soda from a vending machine, - and once out of the earshot, taps his communicator on. "Matsuki," he whispers into the device while operating the vending machine. "The skull followers are moving towards the construction site. You might want to leave before they get there, or hide and spy on them. Where do you want me?"
While she waits for an answer she sneaks to the utilities room and peers inside.
After he says his goodbyes to Connor, Nikolai follows after the cultists into the corridors, waiting until they reach a slightly less populated area so that there is less risk of anyone interrupting, and then looks around for the closest electrical panel. He has no desire to cause a massive disruption on the station, but simply sabotaging doors and lights locally can go a long way...
If mechanically it's the same, then he would try to avoid disrupting the services and just derail the cultists for a bit.
"Mister Petrov!"
"Sir, are you here? He is still with us!"
"What is going on?"
"Must be a short circuit."
"Quick, either solve it or find us another path."
"I have a torchlight!"
"Hey, I think Nickson made it to the other side of the door."
Nikolai's tampered electrical panel is at a unseen angle from the position of where the cult group is. He will have a brief moment to decide on what to do before someone makes their way to him. Also, no-one was immediately around to witness what Nikolai did.

Trusting on you Wolf. Hope you have some smart idea she mutters to herself while droplets of sweat begin to appear on her forehead while she works on the lock
His mission successful, Wolf then quickly backs away from the ruined panel and into the closest branching corridor, his coat helping him to merge with the shadows. He doesn't want to leave too far away, in case the cultists deal with the situation faster than expected... And if needed, he can always repeat his earlier performance as an inspector. The best way to cover a sabotage? Pretend that you're here to fix it.
"... make connection to Watchers that live in Web of Balloons tied to the whispering shadows and the preparation of mankind's invitation to the Black Party..."
Other than the nonsense on the floor, the room seems to have shelves and lockers along the walls, with images of balloons randomly drawn about. There is the 1st and second lockers locked, while the 3rd is open and empty. The shelves are mainly bare, except for what looks like a red paint bucket and brush, and a notebook.
The electrician mercenary hides away into another corridor that has its lights shut off too. The beam of light from a cultist's torchlight soon crept its way over to the electrical panel, it's revealed state of being shredded causing further confusion and alarm.
"How did this happen?"
"Damn it! This must be a sabotage by one of our enemies!"
"You think it is one of Samantha's helpers?"
"That bitch is probably a few steps ahead of us. We need to skip our club initiation."
"We are not joining your group today?"
"No, you six to need wait first. We have an emergency to solve."
Nikolai will see a group of 4 men and two women walking away in the dark towards the cafeteria that is still lit up. They notice him. Then the aged leader Petrov and three of his bodyguards can be seen alone with the electrical panel. One of the bodyguards he now notice is actually Sabe Ruth, his creepy electrician colleague.
She snatches the notebook and puts it in her pocket. She'll read it later.
Then she goes to work opening the lockers, starting with the first one

"Shoddy maintenance, am I right?" He grumbles towards the cultists, just loud enough for them to hear, but hopefully not loud enough for Petrov and company. "Love me some blackouts while I'm trying to have a break in peace." He shakes his head and closes his eyes, going for complete nonchalance and - for extra caution, - hiding his hands behind his back as he leans against the wall and scowls. It is honestly a gamble whether the initiates buy it, but there is always a chance they'd be too intimidated to press. And if not... He is fully prepared to dash to the cafeteria. Spilling actual blood right here would be awkward.
A large dufflebag. It seems to contain something quite big judging from the way it bulges. That is when it starts moving slightly...
Nikolai commentary distracts the group for the moment.
"Yes, this place is getting on my nerves. Having blackouts now might be the last straw for me working here."
A lady in casual clothes says.
"Well, you did say that your hallucinations are triggered by darkness. Did you see anything wierd there?"
A guy asked.
"Hey, that's not funny to ask that. We all had our own issues, and I don't think you enjoy your nightmares."
The other lady scolded.
"Well, I actually do find my nightmares fun. Eh, funny. The creatures like to say wierd shit like-"
The first guy is then interrupted by another in red shirt, who you recognise as Barry.
"Hey, could you just quickly fix the electrical problems? My break time is running out and I want to see what this Petrov guy have to tell us in his club room."
Barry the grumpy man, Gabrien the existing club member, and Damien the nervous dude are here. There is also the annoying guy and the two other women who are new to Nikolai.
She turns around to see whether anyone entered the room. Then she slowly pulls the dufflebag out of the locker and slowly opens it, with her rifle pointed at the bag as well as her position allows...
As Barry addresses him, Wolf reciprocates with a long deadpan look. "Didn't I just say that I'm not working right now?" He clicks his tongue in exasperation and pushes himself off the wall. "I'll report it for you so it gets fixed quicker, but I can't repair it without the go-ahead in my off hours. And these types of faults mean possibly needing to depower the entire section for safety, which needs prior permissions from the higher instances. In other words, it'll take at least an hour." He shrugs. "Afraid your club will have to postpone its meeting. But on the plus side, you can go to the cafeteria and grab a drink with your friends."
He pauses for a moment, eyeing the group thoughtfully. "Though maybe don't pick coffee, I heard it worsens sleep. Albeit rich it would be for me to give health advice..." Nikolai chuckles light-heartedly.
Fortunately, it is not a zombie. Unfortunately, it turns out to be Samantha herself! She is gagged and blindfolded, and her hair is a mess over her face. Sensing as the bag she is inside is open, she starts to give muffled yells and squirm harder.
Just as Matsuki relaxes, distant voices can be heard. Sounds like two or more men are approaching, talking aloud with each other.
Nikolai will see that the group relunctantly accepts that whatever meeting they were hoping to have is postponed. As they walk away, Gabrien continues to talk about how his experience with the club is like, albeit carefully avoiding too much details about what he says he can't share yet.
Meanwhile, peeking back to the cult leader and gang, Nikolai can tell that Sabe Ruth is trying to to use his similarly-designed gauntlets to poke at the sparking panel. He quickly draw his hand away as another spark shot out of a shard of the controls.
"Yeesh... Sorry boss, but I can't return the power in time with the state of this electrical panel." Sabe says in defeat.
"We don't have time. If this is an attack against us, we need to make sure all our assets are safe." Another cultist says.
"My children, we don't need to panic. There are other ways to reach our destination. I have been a janitor here for years, and I know a path that won't require electricity to pass through..." Petrov says in his weak but sage-like voice.
The group takes a moment to agree before Petrov starts leading the way, towards the direction of Nikolai, but the group doesn't seem to see him yet.

She puts her rifle on her back and removes the blindfold and gag from Samantha Shhhh be silent. It's me Matsuki, I'm freeing you. Get up and let us get out of here she whispers.
Then she opens the door a bit and makes sure that the way is clear
Is the plan to follow behind the main cult group? From that path you may find the new recruits?
He turns into a maintenance passageway he knows is parallel to the way the cultists are taking and starts running. It is thankfully abandoned by any workers - most of them must still be in the cafeteria, blissfully unaware of all the nonsense, - and it doesn't take him long to reach the end without any obstacles. He jumps out of the tunnel in one of the half-residential, half-storage areas, not that far from construction site, and takes a quick stock of his surroundings.
There is a small break room before him, directly in the direction of the site, and Nikolai takes a second to consider the downsides of taking it as a shortcut. The downsides aren't too concerning, and so he slips into the room, simultaneously unsheathing his claws - just in case there is anyone inside who might want to question him; usually the claws are enough to dissuade people at a glance.
[note="The Maintenance Tunnels/Engineer's Maze"]
While everyone who works here is a working staff of the space program, the design of the base intentionally hides away sections for electrical and pipe maintenance from the main public routes where motor carts and forklifts can be driven on. Perhaps it is in preparation for when the base expands from a town to a city and the need to make the uglier parts of the complex unseen for important guests.
[/note]
As he sprints through the narrow maze, he enters into a break room he didn't get to use often. And it seems that some kind of business was interrupted whe he bursts in...
Here is when you guys get to enter!
Matsuki frees Samatha's bindings, who had calmed down upon hearing who is rescuing her. The office lady quietly pulls herself fully free while Matsuki peeks to see out the door. By now, the conversation of the group can be heard coming near now. Up the stairs to the second level row of units, a buff worker leading the way can be seen talking with two other gentlemen. Fortunately, they don't notice that she is looking at them yet.
"I still don't understand why you guys are afraid of giving us more information. I thought we are a just a private forum for discussing our issues, Nickson sir."
"We are more special than that. But I assure you it is definitely important that we continue to talk back at our club room."
Let's get out of here Matsuki hisses and pulls Samantha after her, running in the opposite direction from the approaching workers, as silently as a possible

"You know what is a guaranteed win my friend?" He said to Grant, lifting his left hand to his mouth as if he was holding a joint and smoking it.
"Who’s next?"
Deciding that he might as well, Nikolai changes his trajectory and steps up to the trio. "Gentlemen," he nods in greeting. "Pop quiz in the name of the administration: any one of you interested in earning some money, fame or good faith with our employers? I need some physical backup in a potential disturbance not far from here, security business. Might involve some light skull-bashing, probably not. Any takers?" His claws swish as he sheathes and unsheathes them - it's not intended as a threat, but it sure looks like one.
"I'll help, I guess. What's going on? And how much money?"
"Hey, mind if I join? I could use the money, and it never hurts to have more bodies with you when you want to make sure that your point is getting across." Hui said as he entered the conversation.
"I'm not afraid to bonk on some heads if need be." He then also added.
A little side money was also a good incentive.
"Alright let's do this" He says cheerfully
"We let you do the talking and we'll stay behind you looking intimidating" He add trying to look convincing in his thug role.
"Alright, lead the way Wolf." He said.
The big guy leading the way for his group is already tense from the blackout. So seeing two people running out from the utilities room is enough to kick him into an adrenaline rush.
"Hey! You! Get back here!"
He manages to charge up and throw a punch at Matsuki.

The two other followers of the thug just stood where they were, surprised by the scene in front of them.
Matsuki turn
Despite being hit, Matsuki and Samantha manages to run ahead of their assailant. They soon reach the stairs and climb their way down onto the ground floor.
Enemy turn.
The two pre-cultists now walked up to their cultist guide. The brute angrily brushed their help aside as he chooses to get up by himself.
"Fuck fuck fuck! Father is gonna be pissed!"
"Mister Nickson, what can we do to help?'
"Just guard the god damn door! Don't touch anything!"
He now runs ahead and starts his decent down the East stairs.
As he does so, the door of the ventilation machine room opens up, and the drunken worker peeks out. He rubs his head from his hang over. Seems that all the yelling have awoken him.
Matsuki's turn!
The chasing cultist is now 1 Area away. The drunk worker is in the same Area. You can now run 2 spaces across North Construction Maze and into Central Construction Maze. You could also move into West or East Construction Maze from North. Or you could move to North CM then attack your enemy with your rifle.
The four of you manage to form yourself like some gang as you make your way towards the construction site. It is not unusual for such occurrences, as it is known that rumours of violence happens in this complex, and so blue-collared workers tend to find safety in like-minded friends.
The group swiftly made it to the Incomplete Maintenance Tunnel(IMT). The IMT will connect to the Barricaded Maintenance Tunnel(BMT) and the Construction Site. The BMT will lead outside of the Base, so likely not that way.
The air here grows slightly bitter, as the unfiltered air from outside leaks in.
Meanwhile, Wolf will know that the group of cultists are roughly just behind his gang of 4, if they are also taking the same route. Would the electrician try to confront them here, or save his friend by entering the Construction Site?

He leads the group at a brisk pace, heading straight for the construction site while keeping an ear out for any sound of a commotion. There is no real point to delay the cultists behind them - and it will contradict the lie he's just told to the trio from the break room, - so he isn't too concerned with them, instead wanting to intercept whoever might already be at the site. "Matsuki," he hisses in the communicator as they cross yet another corridor, approaching the same place where they've met Connor half an hour or so ago. "What's your situation?"
From here, Nikolai have 3 options. Head left, forwards, or right. If he is confident, he can run ahead and cover more ground. Or he can check with the surprised worker or his new companions or with Matsuki about how to reach her.
Matsuki continues on the run with Samantha close behind. Passing by scattered barriers and scaffolding, the two of them enters into the maze of a construction site. It seems to be meant as a public connection space between the new living quarters and the rest of the base. Right now, it is full of construction materials that Matsuki had used to sneak through. But right now is definitely not the time for anything else but to run for her and Sam's life.
Behind them, Nickson the cult bodyguard have went down the stairs and found Ingo Schultz being stunned by what is going on.
"Hey, Schultz! Help me stop them! What are you, drunk? The bitch that had been trying to stop us is getting away!"
The worker puts up his hands as if in surrender.
"Woah woah, chill. Alright, I do have been aware of some people passing by earlier. It is none of my business, so I aint knowing too much details.
So there were three dudes coming up from the main entrance. Sounds like they were being angry about their introductory ceremony being interrupted. You know, I've heard a bit about how some folks of this "Discussing Club" will need us to not disturb their club activities. I'm not part of it, but if you guys are, you might want to hurry up to follow after them."
He gestures in the direction of the left of the groups' entry way.
Just as he does so, shouts can be heard in the distance, echoing down the half-built hallway. Running footsteps are approaching from the left towards the front. Whatever that is happening with Matsuki, she doesn't seem available to answer back Wolf's recent radio call.
This was getting fun. Almost as much as playing a crowd, but a different king of thrill.
"So which way boss?"
We need backup! She calls out after they continued to run through the construction area
She pulls out her communicator, chooses her latest contact, Wolf, and sends a voice message.
Wolf! We are.... Matsuki begins but she doesn't exactly know where she is. She looks around in order to spot any hi TS on where she is exactly. She sees a crane and some markings. Hopefully that's enough of a clue for Wolf
...in a part of the construction area marked as 'B-52'. There is a black and yellow striped crane as well as rolls of pink insulation foam standing around. We need backup. The cultists have found us and are pursuing...
He then steps away from the man, leaving him to ponder next actions on his own, and nods to his three companions: "Let's follow the ruckus. And if you have weapons, make sure they're loaded - although try to avoid causing serious damage unless there is a high threat. And-" His communicator beeps and Wolf pauses, frowning down at the screen as he listens to the message. "...Right. If you see a black-haired woman wearing glasses, protect her. Hey, you!" Nikolai looks back at the worker, if he's still around. "Is B-52 that way?"
Alright, so i'll step back behind Hui to buy me another second or two. Then, attach the canister to my pants, grab the wand with my right and the starter with my left. Click and fwoosh. Step back behind... his thoughts repeat as he readies himself.
He grabs his bong with his two hands and holds it up like a baseball player getting ready to go at bat.
Upon being told to leave, the worker that was questioned didn't waste his opportunity to quickly escape the intimidating group of 4 men. He disappears behind the doors into the maintenance corridors before he heard of the question regarding the B-52 area.
The group swiftly cuts a corner towards their left direction. As they do so, they heard the running coming from their right. Now at their present location, they can see the half-built space leading towards a large hallway of residential units. A pair of men in overalls was running and stopped infront of Wolf's group.
"Hey! Get the hell out of the way! The one with the name tag "Nickson" yells. "Who are you guys even?"
The one named "Ingo Schultz" is carrying a wrench in hand. The scent of alcohol is strong on him.
Behind Wolf's group, one of the members manage to spot the crane and the numbers "B-52" in the distance.
Matsuki
Matsuki managed to continue on, slowing a bit to take note of her surroundings. As she does so, she can hear the distant commotion again behind her. Somehow the two chasing her have been blocked by another group.
"Yeah. Calm yourselves!" he watches the two men who were running to see if they make a move.
Could I will count the rest of you guys as also preparing an action of attacking them if they turn aggressive or refuse to back down?

Question: if Wolf attacks the cultists, will he be able to prevent them from going after his companions? There are three of them, but maybe there is an appropriate chokepoint somewhere? I was thinking someone who is the squishiest (Hui or Matsuki, probably) can get Grant and Samantha into maintenance tunnels while others block the way.
I'll say that each individual can be "engaged in melee" with an enemy to prevent them from moving without consequence. Or if you choose to stand at a chokepoint, it takes only 1 individual to prevent all enemies from passing through without consequence.
You can choose to stop all enemies from moving away with 1 individual, but it will require a saving throw to not mess up.

Sabe Ruth returned the blows with swipes of his own. As he wrestles and dance with Wolf, he let out a laugh.
"Ah haha! I always... I wanted to fight you! Especially with these cool weapons! It's always unfair how you get to custom make your tools, but -ngh, when I do it I am called a copycat! But now, I can finally defeat you, put you down like the, -urgh, like the filthy dog you always are!"
Your turns again!

As Sabe retaliates, Nikolai dodges and jumps away, just in time to catch movement in his peripheral vision. "Here, see!" He points his claws accusingly at Petrov's twitching body. "Are you sure you don't want to ditch the aliens and have some fun crushing the upcoming undead apocalypse instead?"

Enemy turn:
"I had no reason to fight you. During my time of ignorance, I believed I would always lose to you in a competition of technical wits or physical brawl. But now, as a student of the mysteries of the Void, I now know the potential of greatness is within my grasp, and the proof of the aliens' support shall be your fall!"
The electrician cultist spits back in glee.
"Master?" Sabe Ruth asks aloud once his opponent have ran away. He ignores his rival's jests to approach and kneel down to his bleeding Prophet.
"Petrov, are you... are you ascending? Are you finally joining your consciousness with the Watchers of the Void?"
Noone except Sabe can see this now. Petrov is twitching harder, the blood pouring from his head is turning from red to black, and black stalks start to emerge from the opened mouth of the corpse.
"Ggyes... I see... them all..." A brutally damaged voice comes out.
Seeing Wolf in the way, the bald-headed unnamed cultist pulls out a switchblade from his trouser pocket. While clearly not as deadly as the clawed gauntlets, he still charges into the human barrier, attempting to stab at any opening he sees.
This will be 3 rounds since Grant is KOed. 3 rounds left.
Within the tunnel, you will see that the unfinished section is to your right. Then to your left, the tunnel leads past the entrance to the break room, the one where Grant, Zhili and Nicky were at. You remember that there is an emergency first aid kit within one of the cabinets, and a wall device to call for emergency services, whether it is for the local doctor or the security guards.
(The Break Room is 1 Area away from the group's current Area.)

I'll also move the narrative along.
Enemy turn:
The bald dude scowls at the suggestion by Wolf. However, there is some hesitation underneath the determination by the cultist, as the end result of the confrontation is growing clear the further the escapees went.
"Grr... Crap..." He goes for another swing with his knife.
It manages to miss, but the back swing with the knife's butt clocks Wolf in the head. Everything seems somewhat blurring and pained.
Meanwhile, the awakening corpse starts to find its strength. Petrov pushes himself off the ground, with the help of Sabe. Looking towards the exit to the maintenance tunnels and the fighting with Wolf, Sabe speaks.
"Master, we have failed to stop them. We are now running out of time before our next work shift starts. Plus, you have... you have become..." He losts his words to describe what he is now seeing.
Petrov, with his eyes and mouth leaking black fluids, speaks.
"I have ascended, as you said boy. My body is now the gateway to our voidly supporters. Our plans must skip to the end. Humanity will never accept our dream goals... Eh... Cough cough!" Black spit fly onto the face of Sabe, who flinched from it but decides not to complain.
Players' turn!:
Who wants to use the medkit, and who wants to call security?
etc etc.
As for Wolf, he is now at 0 hp, and gets a scar. It is:
Hit in the head, spitting bloody teeth and looking a mess until someone treats you. Disadvantage on conversational WIL saves until then.
Wolf is not KOed yet.

Knife - (1d4)

He leans slightly to look around the knife-wielding man at Ruth and Petrov, grimaces at the new state of the cultist leader, and calls to the other electrician: "Sabe, are you seriously alright with becoming a mindless body possessed by an alien parasite?! I made some bad life choices myself, but this is beyond ridiculous! Also, rain check on that fight." He waves at the man, ducks under the knife of the other cultist, and dashes into the maintenance tunnels.
There's some emergency medicine in there. Quick! Stabilize your friend! I'm gonna call back up.
She props Samantha up against the wall and the proceeds to the emergency phone. She takes it and starts to speak
This is Matsuki Magumi. We are in the construction area. A gang of about five thugs is trying to kill us. Officer Samantha is with us and injured. We request immediate and urgent backup
Battle is over!
Wolf enters into the breakroom, seeing the rest of his gang safely either making calls to security or patching up injured allies. He may try to stand on guard in case the cultists may try to follow after him, but after a good while, nobody have come into the tunnel.
Just as Grant Traft regains consciousness and can stand on his own, though still in pain, two security officers burst into the break room. Pointing their tasers around, they see that no threat is present and calms down.
"Madam, what is the situation now?"
A male black officer asks Matsuki.
Samantha goes ahead to speak too, towards the female officer
"I am currently alright, thanks to these heroes. But the thugs that tried to kindap me are still out there. Hurry and look for them, they have a secret meeting place in one of the residential units in the construction site. Don't worry, I am protected by these brave workers here..."
The female officer nods and leaves into the maintenance tunnels towards the site while calling on her fellow officers on her radio. The black officer remains on standby.
Samantha then turns to her heroes.
"I want to properly thank you for rescuing me. I know I promised payment for helping with investigating the cult, but I now wish to add on an additional bonus for making sure I wasn't sacrificed or tortured in time. I underestimated the audacity of the cult to go after me, but I will be sure that won't happen again with having security accompanying me at all times from now on."
The payment for Matsuki and Wolf will be 200 credits each for the original work.
Then 200 credits to each member of the new party as reward for the rescue. There will be additional local support of free items or service for each member too, roughly worth 100 credits.
I'll also give you options, you can choose to try to help the guards with hunting down the surviving cultists, or rest to full recovery to start the next chapter.
He pauses thoughtfully, moving the gauntlets so the claws scrape against each other - a sound calming to him, but likely not so much to others; not that Wolf particularly cares. "I would advice you to actually let people know about what's happening. Too many times organizations fall because they refuse to declare an emergency on time, and we don't know how quickly this mold can spread. At the very least officially ban the club and make it known that it is dangerous to associate with it, nightmares or not."
Wolf doesn't wait for acknowledgement of his offer and leaves Samantha to think it over, sliding off the table to head to where Matsuki, Grant, Hui and Nicky are. He inclines his head towards the last three. "I do apologize for the slight deception about my position as a security officer, but I'm sure you see why I wanted to recruit help against these opponents." Nikolai doesn't sound too sorry, instead he sounds almost amused as he winks at the trio. "Didn't lie about the reward though, so hopefully it makes us even. Thanks for the help either way, gentlemen."
Satisfied with his communications for today, Wolf then says his goodbyes to everyone - offering to reconvene later with whoever is willing to continue working together, - and heads for the station's workshops, intending to repair his equipment and then probably sleep for a day. Maybe even find Connor, if the man isn't to put off by the fact that his workplace is now going to be swarming with security for a while thanks to Wolf and his companions. A can of soda would be nice too...
And can you let me know how much would it be to heal my scar? RAW Medic costs 600, but does just healing a scar cost the same?
I'd also like to buy these! I don't know which are possible on this station, so just let me know if something isn't, please.
- Repair my gauntlets for 40 credits (20 per mark).
- Tactical Armor for 150 credits.
- Modify my gauntlets with Penetrating "ammo" for 160 (if it's possible to have not ammo, but a penetrating effect for claws) and/or Smart weapon for 160.
- Thermal goggles for 100. Can I make my glasses into them, maybe? So they are both Thermal and a Personal item?
- Pain Reliever for 100. (Is it one use, or more?)
- Electronic Tool Kit for 300. (I noticed that I don't have it despite being an electrician.)
The total is 1010. With -100 for our freebie, it's 910. If Medic costs 600, I'll probably drop some of these...
She presses her palms against her forehead.
I nearly wish to be back in pris... back at home. she sighs.
After a few minutes of silence she stands up and follows Wolf out of the room. The security guards seem to have everything under control. So no reason for her to stand in the way. Especially in her weakened state.
Matsuki will buy:
Repair Invasion tools - 20 credits
Flashbang grenade - 100 credits
So minus 20 credits with the 100 credits equipment bonus
He clutched his head and says "What’d I miss?"
"Shit! You there! Call for an emergency lockdown! Call for more back up, whatever! We now have a biohzard leak on our hands in additional to this cult... terrorist group running about. Please tell your security friends of this danger of alien mold contamination in the residential development site. Meanwhile, I need to have a meeting with the old man. This time, he should be unable to deny the severity of our threat. But first... we need sanitisation."
Samantha called up a sanitisation crew. It took awhile for them to arrive, and it took more time for them to do tests and on the spot cleaning. After confirming that everyone is safe, they move on to sterilising the work place. A quick report by the security guards revealed that the thugs are yet to be found, but a trail of black spots leads out into the exterior of the colony base. From there, the dusty earth makes finding their path difficult. Also, onsite medics have carted the bodies of the injured brutes to their clinics.
In the meantime, everyone has the freedom to do whatever they like for the moment. Except that now the guards are more active, doing checks on everyone while selected staff help with doing additional safety health checks. This have cause some frustration with delays of doing work, but the seemingly absent presence of club recruitment and The Face-induced nightmares have made everyone slightly calmer.
I have decided that the treatment will be free.
And resting for 1 week will fully recover both HP and Attributes.
For Wolf:
1) Repairing is correct, it will be 40 credits
2) Modifications I will consider how it works more. I think I will do Penetrating and Smart modifications to cost 80 credits each, but stacking will make it 80x2x2-80=240 credits. Wolf can do the modifications himself, so the additional cost is this way. Though roll Dex save to make it without problems. Or pay total 320 credits to avoid this risk.
(Note laser weapons are experimental here, and so have risks to over heat.)
3) Tactical Armour: 150. ok
4) Electronic Tool Kit: 300. ok
5) Thermal goggles: 100. I'll accept you modifying it on your personal item.
6) Pain Reliever: 100. You can use it multiple times. Though I will decide how it get depleted. Likely not as fast as 3 times.
Likely Total: 930 credits
Other people may choose to share the cost. Or Wolf may acquire debt or remove items.
For Matsuki:
Your list is fine.
The substance appears like a form of bacteria, however, the insides are pretty opaque, but tendrils can be seen reaching about for food and to connect with others.
It reacts to uniquely with blood cells. Instead of consuming its material, it "corrupts" them, turning the cells into another copy of the infector. This seems to be costly, as the infector bacteria can do this a few times before dying. Otherwise, it reproduces through bloating a tendril end that pinches off to become another individual.
It reacts the most bizarrely with nerve cells. The mold cells are drawn towards them, before linking up to mimic their connections. This phenomenon also causes the phenomenon of cell infection to occur continuously without death, reproducing the mold cells incredibly fast.
The fully infected petri dish is then given disinfectant, which seems to kill off the mold cells super efficiently. Due to risk of mutating resistance, tests are slowed.
Also to my teammates: if I may, I suggest someone buys a medical scanner to detect the mold. It doesn't really fit Wolf and my inventory is already too full to use it effectively, but it might be worth to have in case we ever need to check if someone is infected?
