Felix Van Kamp

Felix Van Kamp is a federal agent and paranormal investigator. Controversy surrounds the disappearance of Fox's twin sister, Dana, ten years ago. After graduating from university with a degree in psychology, Felix joined the FBI, where he eventually stumbled across case files relating to the paranormal. He studied these cases in his spare time, eventually becoming obsessed with them.

Ok, the main question before I go into the other stuff is whether Felix is eventually officially assigned these cases (like Mulder & Scully in X-Files) or if he does this secretly on the side (like Nick Burkhardt in Grimm).

Regardless, I imagine he comes across the case of Logan's missing dad, so he enlists the help of a contact, a certain social media personality who calls himself Max Danger...

If I take Class and Background equipment, I get:
• a uniform in the style of your unit and indicative of your rank,
• a horn with which to summon help,
• a set of manacles,
• a pouch containing 10 gp
• (a) a rapier or (b) a shortsword
• (a) a shortbow and quiver of 20 arrows or (b) a shortsword
• (a) a burglar’s pack, (b) a dungeoneer’s pack, or (c) an explorer’s pack
• Leather armor,
• two daggers,
• thieves’ tools

Could I just change the equipment pack to the Standard Adventurers Kit (2 battery flares, 5 chemical light sticks, compass, sleeping bag, lighter, canteen, one week of survival rations)?

Manacles the same as handcuffs, right?

Could "a horn with which to summon help" be a smartphone or two-way radio?

I was going to suggest you just be a Retired FBI agent. Then you wouldn't have to worry about getting cases to do.
If you take cases on like Nick from Grimm a problem might happen if you are gone for a few days.
If you still work for the FBI then you have to report to someone, get approval on cases, and have more rules to follow. BUT you also get some possible background help if needed. Not really Back up but you might be able to run plates or finger prints easier.
Standard Adventures Kit is ok just exchange it for one of the other packs or stuff from the other packs.

Manacles are the same as Handcuffs yes.

Max will already have a smart phone you can have one also if you want otherwise a Two-Way Radio is fine.
This was about my plan. Close but not completely.. I will get into it more once characters are done.

Your suggestion's perfect as I was also thinking along those lines. He's pretty unorthodox and a habitual rules-bender so I was also toying with the idea that he'd been kicked out (he's too young to be retired) or maybe suspended. Yeah suspended.

I'm keeping the shortsword and shortbow but they're in storage (I'm not walking around with them). I have my gun (but couldn't afford bullets LOL!—unless that comes with 1 mag?) and my tactical knives (daggers).

If getting suspended means surrendering your firearm and ID then this is not my service weapon and I'm probably carrying a fake FBI ID.

Hey can I change Felix's background to this one from Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft? Just seems to fit a little better.

Here's the City Watch/Investigator from SCAG and here's the Investigator from VRGtR.

I'm more interested in the flavor than the mechanics, TBH. I think if you let me change the Background Feature and maybe pick a more fitting Bond and Flaw I can do without any other changes.
