Determine Characteristics

Roll 3D6 multiplied by 5 for the characteristics STR, CON, DEX, APP, and POW.
Roll 2D6+6 multiplied by 5 for SIZ,
INT, and EDU.
Oct 12, 2022 10:21 pm
Hoping I don't mess this up.

I guess you can't add a multiplier into the dice roller.

Those are some bad rolls. Lol

1. 45
2. 25 45
3. 35 40
4. 35
5. 55

A. 65
B. 45
C. 70

Weak but well educated, sounds like a professor type. How old are you thinking? The older, the higher chance of better education but reduced physical ability
Oct 12, 2022 10:46 pm
Sure , there's no physical loss in your thirties but you get one improvement check for EDU.

Make a 1d100 roll. If you fail (get over your stat) you gain 1d10
Oct 12, 2022 10:49 pm
str and siz combined is 110, meaning you have no damage bonus and a build of 0

Con + Siz is 70 110. that gives you 7 11 hit points

Your Move score is 7 (as str and dex are less than your Con)

Now to determine an occupation...

Rolls

EDU check - (1d100)

(99) = 99

Part 2 - (1d10)

(8) = 8

Oct 12, 2022 11:05 pm
cool, do that puts your EDU on 78, that's very nearly Masters degree level.

I'll let you have a think about the occupations. We have a parapsychologist on the team so any of those would work.

I need to hit the sack so I'll pick it up in the morning
Oct 13, 2022 12:12 am
I'll just run with a standard MD.

(Hopefully I'm smart enough and educated enough to justify such a field. Worst case, there's that old saying, "You know what they call the guy who graduated last in his class in medical school? Doctor."

Lol)

OOC:
Actually there’s an optional rule I’m going to throw you here. If you have three rolls under 10 you may have some extra points to add to your stats.roll d6 and distribute it among your lowest three rolls (before multiplying by 5)
Oct 13, 2022 12:34 am
So if I roll a four, do I add 4 to each of my lowest rolls or is it four points divided up between up to three skills?

Rolls

Mercy roll. - (1d6)

(5) = 5

Oct 13, 2022 12:50 am
That number divided among the skills. Not a massive boost, but something.
Oct 13, 2022 1:27 am
Probably a dumb question, but do I have to distribute it as evenly as possible? Or can I focus on mainly salvaging one stat?
Oct 13, 2022 8:28 am
No question too dumb! You can spread them however you like, the only caveat being there’s an initial cap of 75 on skills. Note that some skills have a base (not sure how they show on the GP sheet, so you’ll need to Google a character sheet, or see it in the free QuickStart ruled and add it manually) (Sorry, this was about skills not stats)
Oct 13, 2022 11:43 am
+4 to CON (which, after the x5 should bring me to 45)
+1 to DEX (bringing it to 40)

Not fantastic, but now it feels sort of like a guy who just doesn't work out as opposed to someone who is frail. Lol
Oct 13, 2022 11:48 am
Amended the stats at the top along with hit points which is now 11
Oct 13, 2022 11:50 am
Alright... skills are next?
Oct 13, 2022 11:54 am
Doctor of Medicine [Lovecraftian]
Most likely a general practitioner, surgeon, or other specialist, such as a psychiatrist or an independent medical researcher. Apart from personal goals, three aims—helping patients, gaining money and prestige, and promoting a more rational and wiser society—are common to the profession.
If a general practitioner, the doctor will be based in a rural or neighborhood practice in or near a small town or city. Many physicians are employed by large urban hospitals, allowing them to specialize in areas like pathology, toxicology, orthopedics, and brain surgery.
Doctors may also serve as part- or full-time medical examiners, conducting autopsies and signing death certificates for the city, county, or state.
In the U.S., physicians are licensed by individual states, most requiring a minimum of two years’ attendance at an accredited medical school. these requirements, however, are but a relatively recent development. During the 1920s, many older physicians first obtained their licenses long before such strict regulations were in effect, despite never attending medical school

Occupation Skill Points: EDU x 4
Credit Rating: 30–80
Suggested Contacts: Other physicians, medical workers, patients and ex-patients.
Skills: First Aid, Medicine, Other Language (Latin), Psychology, Science (Biology and Pharmacy), any two other skills as academic or personal specialties
Oct 13, 2022 11:57 am
So that's 312 points to spend over the listed skill. Credit rating needs to be included in that (and can be anywhere between 30 and 80) If you are poor and struggling, you'd go low but a highly paid specialist goes higher.

The cap is 75 on any skill and note you have starting values (I've posted list of the starting values in the "Skills" thread)
Oct 13, 2022 12:02 pm
In addition you get your Int x 2 (90 points) for personal interest skills. This can be anything except Cthulhu Mythos.
Oct 13, 2022 1:07 pm
Alright... 312 points / 90 points. Skill cap of 75%.

Doctor of Medicine -- 312 points total
Credit Rating: 60 (60 points)
Medicine: 70 (69 points)
First Aid: 70 (40 points)
Science (Biology): 30 (29 points)
Science (Pharmacy): 50 (49 points)
Psychology: 50 (40 points)
Language (Own): 78 (0 points)
Language (Latin): 26 (25 points)
* Persuade: 10 (0 points)
* Listen: 20 (0 points)
- (* are the "any two other skills as academic or personal specialties" which I assume are different from the two personal interest skills?)

Personal Interests -- 90 points
Handgun: 60 (40 points)
Library Use: 70 (50 points)

*****

I think I got it right, but please double check me.
Oct 13, 2022 1:19 pm
Totally unrelated note...

The GP dice roller absolutely hates me. 🤣
Oct 13, 2022 1:24 pm
Looks right. The two other skills might be something you specialise in at work, maybe something like pharmacy, or another science like Botany or even something like charm or accounting. Anything that you might associate with your job. Persuade and Listen fit well but feel free to fiddle your points around if you want to take something different. Note you have access to every skill at its default value.

Don't worry , it hates everyone most of the time!
Oct 13, 2022 1:31 pm
I'll roll with this as is. Seems to me (based on my absolute zero game knowledge 🤔) like a solid doctor build. I wouldn't mind bumping up listen and persuade (which I see as part of the job) but I don't want to take points away from any other skills. So I think this works.
Oct 13, 2022 1:43 pm
I agree, solid Doctor!
Oct 13, 2022 1:44 pm
Your max Sanity is 99, current sanity is equal to your POW
Magic Points are 1/5 of your POW
Roll 3d6 x5 for Luck
Oct 13, 2022 1:46 pm
Now roll for some background elements to help you flesh the character out:

Ideology 1d10
Significant People 1d10
Why significant? 1d10
Meaningful location 1d10
Treasured possession 1d10
Trait 1d10
Oct 13, 2022 2:01 pm
Alright... time to round out.

Rolls

Up all night... - (3d6)

(315) = 9

Ideology - (1d10)

(3) = 3

People. - (1d10)

(1) = 1

But why though? - (1d10)

(1) = 1

Location, location, location. - (1d10)

(2) = 2

9/10s of the law. - (1d10)

(9) = 9

I had nothing amusing for trait. - (1d10)

(8) = 8

Oct 13, 2022 8:22 pm
Idealogy: Science has all the answers. Pick a particular aspect of interest (e.g. evolution, cryogenics, space exploration).
People : Parent
Why? You are indebted to them. How did they help you? (e.g. financially, they protected you through hard times, got you your first job).
Location: Your hometown (e.g. rural village, market town, busy city).
Possession: A weapon (e.g. service revolver, your old hunting rifle, the hidden knife in your boot)
Trait: Loyal (e.g. stands by his or her friends, never breaks a promise, would die for his or her beliefs).

One of these you should pick as your key element, which you will use to keep you grounded between scenarios. Not needed for this one shot but good to know for longer campaigns.
Oct 13, 2022 9:46 pm
Clearly, we can understand everything about the human condition through medicine.

My father was an integral part of my life. He served many years in the Marines, retiring after WWI. Among so many other things, he spent everything he had saved to put me through medical school.

I'd probably pick my hometown as my grounding focus.

I wanted to be a doctor, to help my community. This is home, these are good people, and I want to do my best to take care of them.

My father left me his service pistol. A 1911, well-used but also well maintained. I learned to shoot on it, and now I carry it as my first line of self-defense. It served him through his time in the Marines, including during the World War, and now it serves me just as dutifully.
Oct 13, 2022 10:24 pm
Nice. Submit the character to the game
Oct 13, 2022 10:36 pm
Absolutely. I should be able to sit down tonight and actually input everything into the sheet.
Oct 14, 2022 4:46 pm
I've added stats for your 1911 and approved the character. Go ahead and add a portrait for the character. Most players grab a 1920s portrait, there are thousands online.

Got that saved as the character avatar. I think I'm ready to lose my mind!

(Thanks for the pistol stats, btw. It'll probably be important eventually. Lol)
Oct 15, 2022 2:19 pm
I'm giving bonus packages to some of you and as a Doctor over the age of 30, I'd like to offer you the Medical Experience Package

Deduct 1D10 from SAN.
Add a Phobia/Mania associated with medical experience to the investigator’s backstory.
Add 60 bonus skill points divided among any of the following skills: First Aid, Law, Listen, Medicine, Psychology, Spot Hidden, Science (any two).
Note on the investigator sheet: Immune to sanity losses resulting from viewing a corpse or gross injury.
Oct 16, 2022 12:57 am
Oohh, ok!
Any suggestions for the phobia/mania?

Rolls

Sanity loss - (1d10)

(3) = 3

Oct 16, 2022 12:10 pm
Manias are plentiful : You need to take a shot of bourbon before any stressful situation, or press a stress ball or pray or hold an object to give you courage, manipulate a coin in your hand ...

Not related to his medical background but he might compulsively clean his 1911, maybe something instilled by his father.

Actually, that's great! I think I'll run with that.
Oct 17, 2022 5:30 pm
Side note: Whatever car the Doc has, can he keep a surplus military issue field surgeons kit in it? Probably one at his home also?

Y'know... for emergencies.

Awesome. I envision him being the type to be prepared, so being able to respond immediately to a medical crisis even outside of the hospital.
Oct 17, 2022 7:24 pm
That's cool. Often something comes up that you might need but haven't thought of, so we'd make a Luck check on the spot if it's something you might carry.
Oct 17, 2022 7:33 pm
That works.
Although considering my luck isn't fantastic, I think I want to know he's prepared, at least from a medical standpoint.
