The Free City of Dyvers Situated on the delta where the Velverdyva River enters the Nyr Dyv, Dyvers has grown rich on trade from the lands to west. Few rivermen want to brave the lake and so Dyvers make a comfortable living as middle men between them and the other countries that border the Nyr Dyv. They have a strong naval presence at the mouth of the river but they stay close to port and rarely patrol the lake.

The Free City of Greyhawk, The Gem of the Flanaess Greyhawk is the first major city on the Selintan River, one of two outlets from the Nyr Dyv. It is famous for the grand wealth on display in the High Quarter, and infamous for the goings on in the Low Quarter. Between them, merchants, scholars and artisans ply their trade, propped up by the boom of adventurer's gold found in the ruins of Castle Greyhawk or the tombs out in the Cairn Hills. The Guild of Wizardry does a brisk trade in any ancient magics a bold explorer might come across. Like Dyvers, it has a strong navy but it too stays close to home and mostly patrols the area of midbay near the Selintan.

Kingdom of Furyondy It is clear that the rulers of Furyondy remember the days when they owned Dyvers and had a tighter control over the western part of the Nyr Dyv. However with the armies of the Horned Society to the north always looking for weakness, Furyondy cannot afford to risk losing the support of the Free Cities. Their main port on the lake is Willip and is known for being the main base of Furyondy's navy and for their local breed of goose which is envy of any dinner table. The River Veng, the inlet river to the northwest of the Nyr Dyv, forms the border between Furyondy and both the Shield Lands and the Horned Society.

The Shield Lands The Shield Lands began as a mutual protection pact between several minor lords on the north shore of the lake. They combined their military forces under the Earl of Walworth to be called upon in times of danger. However, with the Horned Society and Bandit Kingdoms to the north and east, this settled into a permanent arrangement with the Earl becoming Knight Commander of the Knights of the Holy Shielding, dedicating to protecting their lands and the wider world from the evils to the north. The capital of Amundfort is on the largest island in the Nyr Dyv and the Shield Land navy vigorously patrols the northern part of the lake for pirates, thieves and spies. Most trade goes through Critwall settled along the Veng River.

The County of Urnst The capital of the County, Radigast City lies on the delta of the Artonsamay River, the inlet river to the northeast of the Nyr Dyv. It is well known for the mutton and wool that are two of the county's main exports. Though of lesser stature than its neighbors, its stout army and navy reminds them all that their independence was hard won in the past and will be defended.

Stoink Stoink is a city of twisted streets and similar morals set on the Artonsamay River. It is one of the few cities of the Bandit Kingdoms or "The Collection of Free Lords" as they prefer to be known. When even the Low Quarter of Greyhawk won't touch that kind of business, Stoink is where you can buy or sell anything with no questions asked.

The Duchy of Urnst Unlike the more provincial county, the Duchy is known for the gold, platinum and gems that flow from their mines. Much of it is spent on its armies and navy to protect all of that wealth of course but you won't find better jewelers or whitesmiths that the artisans of the Duchy. The Duke is constantly trying to unify the two Urnsts into one country but the Countess is quite skilled at turning him down without offending him. The capital of Leukish is near the Nesser river which exits the Nyr Dyv in the southeast.

The Rhennee The Rhennee make their home on the waters of the Nyr Dyv and all the waterways their barges can reach from it. They travel in large family groups linking their barges into small floating towns in protected coves along the lakes. They are skilled traders and barterers and know the lake better than any. Many distrust them as thieves and pirates due to the their insular nature but the truth is that the Rhennee give back what they are given and if you can earn their trust or respect, you'll have a family on the water looking out for you.

Lake Travel

Most travel occurs along the coasts of the lake where there is ample shelter from a fast coming storm or rampaging beast. Many a noble has offered large bonuses for sailors willing to take the quick route across the center but only the foolish or the desperate will take them. Even the Rhennee bargefolk shun the center of the lake, save for the deep lake fishers hoping to catch the giant trout and crayfish before what feeds on them finds them.

The time to travel between major ports along normal routes is given below. These times assume use of sailing ship and good weather. A hex is 30 miles across so with average winds you can travel 3 hexes a day.

Dyvers to Greyhawk: 5 days
Dyvers to Willip: 2 days
Willip to Critwall or Amundfort: 2 days
Amundfort to Radigast City: 2 days
Radigast City to Leukish: 2 days
Leukish to Greyhawk: 6 days
