Rovan's Boatride (IDLE)

The boat is like any other designed to move cargo on a larger river. Low, wide, and filled with boxes, bundles, and people both crew and passenger. You happen to be one of the latter though the crew tend to treat you more like cargo. You have been aboard for three days now and should reach port sometime tomorrow. The captain of the boat, a rough no nonsense though fair man, has told you to rest up as the boat will pass into inhospitable waters later today. There are a couple of other adventurers onboard and are expected to take turns on watch starting tonight and throughout the morrow till you reach your destination.

The boat is manned by the captain and 4 large and burly men. One appears to be an have orc blood but doesn't talk much so you are not sure. The two other adventurers are Garic, a goblin warrior who has dream, and an ego, much larger than himself but is a easy going and likable fellow. The other is Sellene, and elf mage of some sorts. She is very private and does not seem to fit the mold of a typical adventurer but has been lumped in with Garic and yourself by captain Helgar.
The river, never small since you got on the boat, is getting wider and slower which is part of the problem. Captain Helgar says that some of the troubles come from the unusual wildlife which can be quite large, even larger than the boat according to the captain. This is only his 2nd run so he is not too familiar with all the eddies and currents of the river so has been putting in every night. However according to Helgar the river is so simple and the danger on shore greater that he does not plan to stop this night. He says the other boat captains have said this is safe as long as there is some moonlight to steer by.

The river at this point varies is width but has been getting steadily wider and slower with the crew spending more effort speeding it along than pushing off of rocks and steering. Now well over 50' wide at its narrowest and getting over 100' by tomorrow it takes little for ever one of the crew to keep it safe and in the main current.

Here is a basic "map" of the boat. These are quick and simple enough to edit that they are used for in game mapping.

Roll Tests

As dusk settles over the land the crew stow their oar/poles and settle down to eat a meal of stew prepared by the captain over a small boat stove. You are given a portion of the stew as well and soon after the captain and all but the half orc settle themselves down to rest. Garic and Sellene both find their usual sleeping spots and all becomes still save the lapping of the river water against the hull. Knowing the orc to be extremely untalkative from the days spent on the river already you find ways to keep yourself awake and alert.

The first hour passes with little of note save more starts coming out from behind the thin and high cloud cover. About half way though your second hour of watch you note several large, low, and sleek figures heading up stream pas you tens of feet away from you in the center of the river. Suddenly you hear a loud noise from the closer shoreline. Turning to look you see something heading your way through the sky!

The object begins to get larger then you realize it is going to strike to boat and there is not time to move the boat out of the way.

The object strikes the front of the boat, barely missing the sleeping boatmen, and explodes splashing a large area with a foul smelling substance that glows slightly. (Red circle)
The rest of the boat startles to action and your eyes trace the trajectory back to its origin. There you see forms moving on the river bank pushing some boats into the river upstream of you.
A splash brings your attention back to the boat where the captain has two of the men throwing buckets of water onto the boat and cargo to wash off the substance while the one covered with it bails it out. The other men have locked their oars and stayed rowing.

Old fashioned speech for "sound the alarm!" though I see now I used it wrongly. Don't think people actually shouted that lol, but it describes a cry of alarm. Anyway, I try and sound overly archaic with him.

The boats will take time to reach you. You might have time depending on how fast they are. Their boats are smaller and likely faster but you are no boatman. Make a Test with disadvantage if you want to estimate on how long.
