Does anyone really like checking and unchecking boxes to track resource depletion and recovery? Does anyone like the Dying Earth, Dancers at the End of Time, or the Book of the New Sun? Have I got a game for you! -
Alan Bahr (of Gallant Knight Games) has released an alpha of a new game on the GKG Patreon. It's called Shadows of a Dying Sun and hews closely to its inspirational material (including the aforementioned classic literature, and art by Perplexing Ruins). Here is an image of the cover.
The game is focused on resource management in an end-of-all-times sciencefantasy setting. There is a d20-roll-under-attribute mechanism, which tells you to mark off a resource when you fail. Most of the game play is in choosing what resources to attrite and recover.
There are ten very weird traditions of magic, standard fantasy equipment, and an inchoate world that can be formed collaboratively. The magic is ... potent.
I would like to run this for a few people.
