I am male, 55 years old, and live in south Mississippi with my beautiful wife and three fur children named Wingnut, Lunar, and Salem. I have been gaming for 42 years, most of it as a GM. I started with the Holmes "blue book" edition and then graduated to the Molday basic set and AD&D thereafter. I have played every version of D&D and dozens (dare I say hundreds?) of other games besides. My current faves are Savage Worlds and Pathfinder 1E, but I can and do play just about everything under the sun.

Looking at south mississippi, I found a city called Hattiesburg which has a park called Optimist Park. Is that where the portal is? ;-)

For lack of a better thought (and because it really won't matter much once we get underway), I've placed the portal in New York City's Central Park. Hattiesburg is a good guess, however, and is actually about 80 miles from where I live. I live as far south as you can go without getting your feet wet.

Hello all. Late comer joining the party. 50 yo Male from Ca USA.
I have mostly played D&D from the original on up but skipped 4th. I did a bunch of other games in high school but missed a couple decades for college and family. Started D&D5e a couple years ago and branched or to PbP last year and picked up Fate, and Tiny d6. Still getting through the swade system online as I don't have any of the books so am open to character an play tips

I'm 41yo, male, wife and toddler. Started with DnD 2e and 3.5 in high school, moved on the Rifts and Deadlands Classic in college, took a 20 year break adulting, just got back into TTRPGs right before the pandemic with DnD 5e and SWADE, discovered PbP as an alternative, and have been on GamersPlane since.

So with a couple old school D&D players I have to ask, who would jumb into a gelatenous cube to get away from a diplacer beast? I laugh everytime I see the trailer for the new D&D movie with that sceen

The thing that frightens me the most about that movie right now is the poster that just came out.

With the acting and directing behind it, and it's seems like they're fans of the game itself, hope this turns out better then the disaster from the early aughts.

dunno. 5e displacer beasts are well nasty. don't remember them being quite so bad in previous editions. but then the new GM was super experienced in maximising the deadliness of monsters.....

I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, but yes, it does seem rather odd to jump into a new danger to escape a present one.

Edit: Actually, because it popped into my head just after, imagine going into a dungeon, everything is super clean, and instead of smelly must and mold, there's the lingering scent of lemon everywhere.

Speaking of slime, has anyone heard of "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime"?

Heard of it, yeah. Haven't seen/read any of it though.

The beginning is fun and interesting but it gets heavier towards the end. Life as a slime has challenges. 😁 He has a growth ability so later on is not all about being a slime.

What. The. What!?

A average guy dies and reincarnates in another world (transmigrates) as a slime. I read the webnovel, it then went into manhwa (comic), and is now an anime. Before I found PbP I read a lot of online content and got into translated webnovels.
He starts out very limited because he is used to seeing with eyes, hearing with ears, and moving his skeletal structure. As a slime he has none of that so he has to figure it all out. After a while he figures out he has a growth ability that lets him gain other power as he ranks up. Some suspense, drama, humor, and adventure.

Though the posting may be erratic till after the holidays I thought I might as well kick it off.

A raw attribute is used when no skill is appropriate. Largely they are used for resisting spell effects, poisons, etc.

There is no way to enter the portal from this side. Indeed, it does not even seem to exist from this side, necessitating finding a way home, if that is the route you wish to go. Staying here to explore is also an option. The adventure is very sandboxy, so I'll run with it whichever way you want to go.

This game seems to have lost momentum, so I'm going to close it off. Too bad, really, because I had some really interesting worlds planned for you to visit, once you figured out why the "Summer" of this world had disappeared (and dealt with the repercussions of having someone who is identical to her in your midst).

That's unfortunate, as I really was enjoying it.

I think we were just struggling to figure out the next steps.

Regardless, if you decide to give it another try down the road I'd love to be a part of it.
