Having left Baldur's Gate a few days ago the trip thus far has been without incident. On Mogguth's suggestion you've been skirting the northern edge of The Wood of Sharp Teeth allowing for the ease of both hunting small game and navigation. It's roughly midday and you've been making good time since breaking camp this morning. In a few hours you should reach the eastern edge of the wood and turn south towards your destination; Greenest.

"Stop!" a loud voice coming from in front of your position yells. Before you can respond an orc climbs out of a small gulley about 20 feet ahead and slowly looks the group over. He gaze locks onto Do'urth and he casually throws out an old Orcish curse towards the "rotten, half-breed" before announcing that he expects payment to let you pass.

"Ten gold. Consider it a tax for walking on Orc land!"
Jul 27, 2016 11:45 pm
Tayleron hears the orc demand payment as well as cursing the half breed. Then throws back an equal insult questioning his mother's breeding habits as well as his parentage. Then fires an arrow at him.

Triana had spent the last few days observbing the group making mental notes and until now she had only a cursery view. She wasn't sure how this enterprise would go but so far it was intriguing. She watched Tayleron take not kindly to the Orc's jibe and strike.

"If we must fight. Then let it be so."

Triana reached for her sword.

None too pleased with the ranger's insult the big creature nimbly unhooks his axe from his belt and charges in towards Tayleron only to be struck in the shoulder with an incoming arrow. "Have to do better than that!" he yells as he raises his axe....

As far as Mogguth can tell, this Orc is all on his own.

Do'urth, having been a trained assassin, would be much more useful if he had a more stealthy approach to things. However, attacking without the element of surprise can keep his assassin identity at bay for now until he can trust his companions. Luckily, Do'urth is versatile, and he has no problem crossing blades as a front. Firmly grasping both of his shortswords, Do'urth smiles as he twirls the steel with speed and balance, and thrusts his dominant handed blade toward the Orcs jugular, quickly followed by the flash of his off handed blade piercing towards the orcs ribs.

Do'urth's blades sing as they whip through the air and slice into the orc's flesh. The first blade finds the beast's neck and before it can even react the second penetrates between ribs and into a lung. Obviously hurt, he slumps to his knees, and then falls backwards to the ground.

"Kill me!" he chokes, staring up at the sky.

Apparently the orc's tax ploy has been successful at least once before as Do'urth finds a small pouch which contains 10GP. There's also a small iron key on a string around his well bloodied neck.
Jul 30, 2016 1:03 am
Do'urth lifts the corpses head, and steadily retrieves the key, along with the pouch. I'm not a fan of giving away coin so easily, but I'm a fair man of course. He jingles the pouch of coins, and slings the key around his neck, the key resting next to Do'urths fang necklace. So how shall we split this?
Jul 30, 2016 1:09 am
" Why don't you hold on to it for all of us until it's needed. But be warned don't run off with it." Tayleron eyes the half Orc with a steady gaze.

Do'urth chuckles If anything, I'd go in search for the poor tax payer and return the gold. he returns the gaze, staring down at the elf. Do'urth then turns back to the corpse, kneels down, and rips out the orcs fangs. Now you're a bigger disgrace than even a halfbreed he chuckles again, and spits on the corpse. Shall we continue then?
Jul 30, 2016 1:43 am
"Yer A bloody crew, but no doubt this orc would've done the same to the next passerby." Mogguth invokes Sylvanus in a unhurried prayer for the dead.

Having dispatched the toll-taking orc in short order you move down into the gully where the beast was hiding. About eight feet deep and fully overgrown it was the perfect spot for the orc to watch for unwary travelers and it's obvious from just a quick investigation that he has spent quite some time at this location.

Within a few hours you make the turn to the south and your travels over the next few days are relatively uneventful; a minor run in with a few wayward goblins being the only real excitement along the way. As evening approaches on your eighth day of travel your destination is just a few short mile ahead and as you crest a small rise you can see Greenest off in the distance. But instead of the pleasant, welcoming town that you expected, you see columns of black smoke rising from burning buildings, running figures that are little more than dots at this distance, and a dark, winged shape wheeling low over the keep that rises above the center of town. Greenest is being attacked by a dragon!

Tayleron looks down at the burning town then up at the circling dragon. "I'm guessing the most resistance is still in the keep. Let's be off to at least assist." I start leading the rest of the group down towards Greenest using the most expedient way.
Aug 1, 2016 11:49 am
The many hours hat made up the continued walk after they had slayed the Orc. Triana played for a short while as they walked, evenually thiugh long after she had ceased playing the group reached the town of Greenest. The smell and site of rising smoke was the first thing they saw then as they reached within view Triana could only stare in horror at the site, no visions of music stirred in her mind at least not as strong as the horror. She nodded as the rouge was thr first to march forward then drawing her blade she followed afterwards. The words of her bardic spells throwing through her mind, songs that would inspire, whistling tunes that would reknit skin, mend bones. As she went down she began scanning the surroundings, "We have to help any locals their's a chance groups have been trapped in houses."

Well this wasnt included in the contract.. He looks over to the group starting to march towards the keep, and he tags alomg for a while.
Aug 1, 2016 10:13 pm
The half moon and numerous fires within the village provide just enough light to give you an idea of the carnage that has befallen the town. Groups of figures run about, some appear to be fleeing, while others seem to be going about their business without a care in the world. As you reach the outskirts of Greenest it's clear the most of the flames are coming from haystacks, wagons, and barns that have been set ablaze, most of the homes and shops appear to be untouched by fire, a small consolation.

Entering the village you get your first look at the invaders as six hooded figures stand over several corpses. They are methodically searching the recently deceased and don't even notice that they're being watched.

Triana, mixing it up close with one of the cultists, continues her attack and once again lands a solid strike. Cursing his attacker the cultists lashes back, catching the bard across her thigh with a deep cut. A slight grin of satisfaction crosses his face, not just because of the damage caused, but out of the corner of his eye he sees the other wounded man has come to help.

Before she can react, a second cultist joins in the fun, stabbing his sword forward, but missing by at least a foot. Sidestepping Tayleron's attack the robed man retorts "You certainly swing like a merchant!" Before he can retaliate, however, a loud crash of thunder stuns everyone involved...

With an almost earth shaking rumble Triana's attackers are thrown like rag dolls through the air, dead before the even hit the ground some distance away. Before the dust can even settle a lone arrow streaks through the air, swirling dust behind it, as it embeds itself in one of the already dead cultist's chest.

Clearing his head from the thunderous boom of Triana's spell, Tayleron's attacker strikes back, slashing the ranger across the shoulder [2HP to Tayleron]. An unmistakable smugness evident by the look on his face he says, "Merchant!", as if it were some sort of insult.

Heavily wounded, Mogguth's attacker takes a surprisingly strong slash, but is still unable to do any real damage as the dwarf readily absorbs the blow.

Tayleron's blade slashes deep into the stomach of the last surviving cultist who immediately drops his weapon. Clutching at his wounds he stares into Tayleron's eyes before falling dead to the ground. The fight over, the group quickly searches the six corpses recovering finely crafted jewelry from one, several small statuettes from another, and a small sack of coins from a third.

Suddenly five humans dash in front of you from out of the shadows. A limping man and three young children race across the street into more shadows, and a woman carrying a round shield and broken spear turns and faces back in the direction from which they came. Eight kobolds stream out of an alley on the family's heels and fan out around the woman, who looks determined to delay the creatures for as long as possible.

The creatures appear to be so intent on killing off the family they don't give you a second look even though you're only about twenty feet away.
OOC:
I'm just going to assume that the group will make quick searches of bodies after combat, just to save the trouble of having to post "We're going to search the bodies." If there is ever a situation where you don't think you want to do that after combat, just let me know.

Pocketing her share of the coins, Mogguth sees the wounds on her companions, and judges them to not be critical. Catching the little creature around the neck Mogguth's whip of thorns drags the kobold towards her. His tiny hands reach up above his head as he briefly struggles to break free, but before the whip has even dragged him five or six feet, his body goes limp.

The other kobolds watch in surprised horror as their companion is dragged to his death. The surrounded women takes advantage of the distraction to lash out at one of her attackers, stabbing one of them in the shoulder with her broken spear. "Help us!!" she yells towards the party, frantically jabbing with her spear, trying to hold off her attackers.

More than making up for his previous shot Do'urth's arrow screams through the air and into kobold flesh. Penetrating completely through one of the creature's torsos, it continues on, nicking one of his companions on the hip before finally sticking itself into the ground. Seeing that two of their kind have fallen so quickly the group decides to put an end to the new threat as quickly as possibly. Five of the six charge forward, focusing their rage on Do'urth, while the sixth, who has been wounded by Linan, looks to exact some revenge.

"That hurt, Lady! Now you die!" he yells, the light of the fires flickering off of his dagger as he charges at Linan and stabs her in the thigh. "Mutt!!!" she growls as she quickly retaliates with her spear, missing the nimble kobold as he ducks to the side.

Two of the ugly things rush in toward Do'urth blades in hand. The first takes a wild slash that throws the rogue off balance allowing the second to get a clean jab in the abdomen. [4HP to Do'urth]

Even heavily armored and braced the for attack the pair charging Mogguth are able to slip through the stout dwarf's defenses and find exposed flesh. "Not so tough, dwarf!" one of them taunts. [8HP to Mogguth]

Finally the fifth peels off from the others and approaches Tayleron, darts to his right, and runs right it leading with his dagger. After a few quick feints the kobold finds an opening and slashes Tayleron across the arm. [4HP to Tayleron]

Tayleron, Mogguth, and Triana are all up. Once they've gone Do'urth will get the first action of round 2

Triana can almost see the relief in Linan's face as she rushes in to assist the villager who noticeably cringes at the bard's ineffective attack. "We have this one outnumbered now if nothing else" Linan reassures as a look of determination flashes onto her face.

Maneuvering for position Mogguth takes a step away from her attackers while simultaneously lashing out at the closest creature. Her axe connects squarely on the creature's throat, cutting a main artery. As his blood spurts high into the air the kobold drops his weapon and reaches for his throat but it's too late and he bleeds out in a matter of seconds.

Quick to retaliate Tayleron slashes at the nimble kobold who quickly jumps back. "Missed!"

While not the ideal situation for the rogue to find himself in he manages quite well. With both swords out of their sheaths, he quickly strikes at the taller of the two kobolds, slashing it deeply across the chest. It looks down at its wound, looks back up to Do'urth in disbelief, and once again at its wound before crumpling to the ground. Do'urth's second blade also finds kobold flesh, but doesn't have near the effect as his first attack. In fact it just seems to have angered the little creature.

Cursing Do'urth and his entire family in its native tongue he strikes back only to have the rogue smack his dagger to the side with his off-hand blade. "I get you yet, Ugly!" the kobold snarls as he takes a step back.

Watching his partner drop to the ground just seconds before, Mogguth's attacker charges in hard and without subtlety. Try as he might, however, he just can't seem to get his dagger through the dwarf's shield.

With a quick look over its shoulder, the kobold that was so confident in his last attack has noticed that half of his group has fallen. Deciding running is a better option than dying it takes a half-hearted swipe at Tayleron before turning and running back in the direction from which it came.

The three of you, having each held off the latest attack, are feeling pretty good about the situation until you hear a loud scream from in front of you. Linan cries out in pain as a dagger slices into her abdomen, her knees buckle as she takes a step away from her attacker, but she manages to somehow stay on her feet.

Taking a futile swing as his opponent makes a run for it Tayleron reacts quickly as he reaches for his bow and gets a shot off just as the kobold is about to find cover behind some barrels. The arrow buries itself into the back of the creature's skull and throws it to the ground. He doesn't make a move.

Linan, barely conscious, strikes out with her broken spear and doesn't come close to causing any damage, but does manage to back the creature into the perfect position for the lunging Triana whose blade enters the doomed kobold's ear. With a loud shriek of pain it drops to the ground and curls into a fetal position, blood puddling about its head.

Skipping back just enough to avoid the sharp end of Mogguth's axe the creature gives the cleric a wicked smile and spins its dagger in his hand, readying for his next attack.

Grimacing in pain Linan looks up at Triana and shakes her head, "I don't know why we're being attacked, but some of the groups that we've seen wandering around appear to be more interested in looting than actually killing folk." She looks over between a few of the buildings and slowly starts limping in the direction that her family had run off. From the shadows a man and three children slowly emerge, faces clearly shocked when they see the state that their mother is in, but relieved at the same time.

"We're heading to the keep, rumor is it's still safe but we have to get there quickly!" she motions her family along and begins to follow them between two of the buildings before turning back. "Follow us if you'd like us to get you to the keep, but do try to keep to the shadows"

Linan's eyes widen as Mogguth's spell envelops her in healing warmth. A bit stunned she takes a quick look at her wounds and seeing that they have all been healed stands with mouth agape. "Th.. th.. thank you, stranger!" Quickly composing herself she leads the group slowly ahead, working her way through shadows and between buildings in a way only someone with intimate knowledge of the small village could.

Suddenly she signals the party to stop, "We'll need to be quiet here" she says, bringing her index finger to her lips. She points off to the right where you see a single cultist and two kobolds peeking into the window of a candle shop. She then motions her family forward across the narrow street, in hopes of finding cover in the alley across the way.

"Why is he provoking them?" Linan asks Triana. "We would have made it across undetected if not for him!"

Tayleron's arrow flies high, striking the side of the shop wall a good foot over the kobold's head. The three quickly turn and spot the attacker. "Get him!" the humans yells and as the two kobolds start to charge forward Mogguth's bolt strikes one of them in the shoulder. Yelping in pain he continues his charge.

The human spots the cleric and starts his run towards her position.

The kobold never sees Do'urth's arrow as it hits him square in the chest and passes clean through. The creature drops, his momentum carrying him forward in rag doll fashion as it slides along the ground.

The last kobold has closed on Tayleron and takes a swing with his blade, catching the ranger across the chest, slicing him to the bone. Before the kobold even gets a chance to celebrate Linan runs up to the beast and jams her broken spear into its side. It gasps for air as it falls dead on top of Tayleron.

"Why would he attack them? They never would have seen us go by." she asks the others, the frustration in her voice obvious. Kneeling down next to Tayleron she shoves the dead kobold from on top of him. "He doesn't look good..."

Having stabilized and moved Tayleron into hiding you can see, that while his wounds are pretty bad, he should recover enough strength in a few hours to continue. "We need to get to the keep!" Linan says, trying to sound as sympathetic as she can under the circumstances. "Perhaps if I help carry him..." she bends down and tries to lift the elf by the shoulders, but isn't strong enough to even get the fully geared ranger off the ground. "We need to get to the keep..." she repeats softly as she stares at the ground, "...they'll surely be locking the gates before too much longer."

Do'urth's quick looting doesn't turn up anything of value hidden on the corpses.

Expertly guiding you through her home village Linan has the party ducking through alley ways and quickly darting across the dirt roads without being detected. Occasionally you see far off figures running through the village, but at the distance it's unclear whether they're merely villagers attempting to escape, or attackers chasing down their next victims.

Finding yourself nestled between two small homes Linan motions the group to look forward. The Keep! It's finally in sight and there appears to be a clear route to its gates. Jumping ahead to start the final sprint to safety Linan suddenly comes to halt.

"Where do you think you're going?" a high pitched voice rings out from the distance. You've been spotted! Two hooded humans draw their blades and order their two kobold companions to provide cover before they rush in.

Tayleron's arrow strikes the kobold dead center and drops it straight back onto the ground. The last kobold takes a quick appraisal of the situation and decides that fleeing is its best option. Stowing his sling he turns about and runs as fast as his little legs will take him.

With the last of your obstacles fleeing into the night you notice that he has support not all that far off. From either side you can see the dark figures merging towards your position. "NOW!" Linan screams, abandoning any hopes of stealth, as her and her family break out into a near sprint towards the gate of the keep. You decide to do likewise and are quickly on her heels as she runs towards the gate. A few of the raiders yell out, and while a couple of kobolds manage to hurl some stones in your general direction you make it to the keep unharmed.

With the gate quickly shut and barred behind you one of the villagers approaches. "Your the last ones to make it" he says somberly, knowing that there are still others out there. Before you have a chance to respond your eyes are stung by a bright flash of light,. The screams of several men on the parapet confirm your fears, the dragon has once again attacked.

"I told everyone to stay off of the parapet when it attacks!" screams an elderly man. "It swoops in, attacks, and then leaves. If you stay off of the parapet you won't get hurt!" he adds, his tone almost scolding in nature. It's obvious from the way he carries himself and the way that others behave around him that this is the man in charge. As he walks by he notices Linan and her family. His tone a bit softer he approaches Linan. "Glad the you all made it, although it looks like you took a bit of a beating getting here."

"We wouldn't have made it at all if it wasn't for the strangers here" she responds, motioning to the four of you as she does. "Eight of them little scaly dog bastards had us cut off and surrounded when these four came to our rescue." The man gives you all an appreciative nod, "Your help is much appreciated, Strangers. I'm Governor Nighthill and I'm glad you all made it to the safety of the keep."

With a deep sigh he clasps his hands behind his back and stares up into the sky. "I'd give anything to know what we're up against and why. For that, we need prisoners. A commander, even a low ranking on, is best." He lowers his gaze and looks at the party. "You've down quite a bit already, helping Linan and her family to the keep. If we could figure out who's behind this and what their intentions are, we might be able to save some of the other villagers who are still out there. Would you be willing to help?"

At the sound of the beep it will be roughly 9PM *beep*
Aug 30, 2016 2:07 am
"Aye, for my part, I will. Seems a fetch to be a coincidence that the dragon and these kobolds and humans attack together." She nods at the others. "Though we're running low on energy at the moment. Mind if we catch our breath before you send us back out there?"
Aug 30, 2016 8:18 am
"Aye. I'll lend aid. But as my friend suggested we do need rest first." Tayleron looks out over the yard at the inside of the keep.
Aug 30, 2016 8:49 am
The combat ended quickly but even as the last Kobold of the group fled, it became apparent that they would be soon overwhelmed. As Linan called for the group to move they did. Triana ran forward stopping before entering the gate to see the oncoming group. Stepping back inside Triana sighs at the sight of so many foes, recalling stories of short odds and mighty deeds. Once clear of the gate Triana took in the the crowds of people all of them forced out of their homes.

As the towns Govener approached them and both Mogguth and Tayleron agreed to help Triana nodded. "If help is what you require then that is what you will receive."

With a slight look of disappointment on his face Governor Nighthill concedes that a bit of a rest is probably the best course of action. "As you wish. Once you're ready, please join my on the parapet." Triana took a moment to tend to any wounds leaning by a wall in the fort and observbing the various refugees. After a few minutes she fell asleep into a light sleep awakening an hour later. Not much had changed and she wasn't sure how much time had passed. How long was it until sunset she couldn't place it, she whistled a tune as quitely as possible, their was no tingling feeling ariund her lips. She knew her magic was spent for the moment but they could likely afford no extra time.

Standing once again she headed upwards, taking the same stairs the Govener had taken before.

After spending a little time tending to wounds, weapons maintenance, and other miscellaneous tasks, you head up to the parapet to talk with Governor Nighthill. "Look" he says, slowly swinging his arm across his body, motioning to scene in front of you. "It appears they have no intention of assaulting the keep directly. They're merely keeping us from leaving, allowing them to loot the town with minimum resistance." From what you can see Nighthill's conclusion seems sound. Raiders have the keep completely encircled but don't appear to be making any type of preparation for an assault.

Pacing slowly, hand on his chin, Nighthill continues, "I don't know what we're up against and we don't have the personnel to launch any type of attack from within the keep." He stops and leans against a railing, "We're at their mercy, but that doesn't mean we can't try and save some of the stragglers that haven't made it to the keep."

Relaying some information he's heard from others that have made it to the safety of the keep, he asks if you would be willing to mount a rescue attempt of those who have holed up in the Chauntea temple. "Apparently a group has locked themselves in tight and the attackers are trying to burn them out. Now, obviously, you can't leave through the front gate, but ol' Escobert may have another way to out."
He leads you down to the grounds of the keep and quickly finds Escobert, motioning him over to join you. The dwarf, with knotted and tangled bright red hair, quickly scurries over. "What is it, Nighthill? Needin' my time to getting defenses set up in case them bastards make a run at us" he says in a gruff tone.

"The tunnel exit! Can you show our friends here to the tunnel exit?"

"Aye" he says "Nothing out there but them bastard raiders, but if you're wanting out, I'll show you the way." He leads you to the cellar underneath the keep and points you at a stack of barrels and crates. "The door is behind that mess, clear it, and use these" he retrieves a huge ring of keys from his pocket and quickly searches through them, throwing two of them to Mogguth. "First one's for the door, second's for the grate at the end of the tunnel."

"I need to get back to defending this place. Try not to die out there." he says before turning and yelling out something in dwarfish as he walks away.
OOC:
You're all standing in front a pile of junk that needs to be cleared before you can get to the door. Nighthill is still by your side should you have any questions before proceeding.

Anyone that knows dwarfish hears Escobert say, "Good luck to you, Ma'am", referring obviously to Mogguth.

At the sound of the beep it will be roughly 10PM *beep*
Sep 6, 2016 7:51 pm
Well best be at it. These soft city folk won't be saving themselves. Tayleron begins to move the junk from the entrance.
Sep 6, 2016 10:00 pm
"Thank you, Escobert," she replies. "Do you know where the temple to Chauntea is from the grate?"
Sep 8, 2016 12:31 am
"Once out of the tunnel, head directly east, the temple is by far the largest building in town, you really can't miss it." Nighthill responds, helping the group clear the last of the debris from in front of the door. "Please do what you can for those trapped inside, and if an opportunity presents itself to learn what this is all about, take it!"

The lock to the gate appears to have rarely, if ever, been used and it takes some effort to get the key to catch properly before you can get the gate unlocked. The heavy gate squeaks and groans as it opens, rust from the hinges falling to the ground. The narrow tunnel provides little space and you form a single file line as you enter. Brushing away the webs as you move through the tunnel you make steady progress before running into a large swarm of rats.

Stomping, kicking, and occasionally slicing through the hoard, you make your way to the end of the tunnel. Just above your heads is the exit grate, disguised to look like a sewer outlet. Years of weathering and neglect appear to have taken their toll on the grate's lock, it will take a skillful attempt, even with the key, in order to get the grate open.

It takes several attempts just to get the key into the lock as it keeps catching upon insertion, but you are able to eventually get the lock undone. Slowly pushing the grate up, but before it you get it open completely you hear some rustling off to your left. A group of raiders, at least five of them from what you can see, appear to be searching the stream bank for any townsfolk that may be trying to hide. They are slowly moving in your direction.
Sep 9, 2016 6:51 am
The tunnel was disgusting much like any old cavern or tunnel, popping up beside Mogguth she spots the guards. "This seems like a grand opportunity to ambush these attackers." She looks at the rest of the group looking to see what the others thought. She guessed their rogueish Half Orc would be all to up for an ambish."
Sep 9, 2016 1:22 pm
Mogguth nods and looks at the others to see if they agree or object to Trianna's plan.
Sep 9, 2016 1:52 pm
Perhaps it's best to not alert them to this tunnel entrance. This leads directly into the keep. Remember what we have come out to do.
Sep 9, 2016 6:13 pm
As you discuss your plans, Mogguth gets a better look at the approaching raiders. Six smaller figures, most likely kobolds you figure based on recent encounters, being bossed about by two humans.

Mogguth lowers back into the tunnel, gently closing the grate above her and shooing the others back. She whispers "too exposed, wait till they pass."
Sep 14, 2016 11:53 pm
After a tense few moments the raider patrol passes by and Mogguth slowly lifts the gate and climbs out, covering the position as the others follow closely behind. To the east, roughly two hundred feet from your position, lies Chauntea's temple. A large building, just as Nighthill has stated, its silhouette stands out remarkably well against the night sky.

With plenty of brush along the bank of the stream you decide to move closer to investigate. There appear to be three groups of raiders (a mix of humans, kobolds, and rather large lizards) outside of the building. There is a group in the rear that is piling straw up against the rear door of the structure, a group out front that is battering against the main door, and finally the largest group appears to be nothing more than a strung out mob that is whooping and hollering as they continuously circle the building outside of the wall.
OOC:
The large building in the lower right corner is the temple. You can position yourselves anywhere in the brush along the stream, the loud group which is circling the outside of the walls is making more than enough noise to cover your movements as long as you're in the brush

Mogguth whispers: "If we could get closer, we could attack them from range then charge up."
Sep 20, 2016 12:21 pm
A sound plan. Best to do it now then. Tayleron readies an arrow and waits for the others to strike.
Sep 20, 2016 9:45 pm
Triana nods at the statement and unsheaths a knife that hung at her hip and raised it. She looked to Mogguth who seemed to have become their unofficial leader. "When ever you're ready."
Sep 21, 2016 2:00 am
Mogguth takes aim at a kobold near the hay, and slowly counts down. I got the one on the far left. "When I say fire, fire, then charge up. Three, Two, One, Fire!"

Hopefully in unison, Mogguth fires her crossbow, then charges up, drawing her melee weapon as she runs.

Mogguth's bolt hits the kobold dead center. It appears to be stunned, not sure of what happened, before seeing the bolt sticking from its ribs. "Attackers!!!" it yelps, warning the others.

As we haven't rolled initiative, I'd assume we're still on a suprise round?
Triana aimed at the same one Mogguth had hit, she aimed her knife and threw. Seeing it hit she she unsheaths her rapier and springs out of the bushes aiming to finish what a crossbow bolt and knife hadn't.

With a crossbow bolt still stuck in his chest the kobold starts to yell out once again, but can't even get a word out before a knife catches him in the gut, sending him reeling in pain on the ground. Triana, pleased with the result, she wields her rapier and joins Mogguth in rushing in.

Tayleron, aiming for the cultist on the far right, lets loose with his shot, which sticks itself into the back wall of the building. The cultist quickly turns and tries to determine where the shot came from, but his attention is quickly drawn to the two onrushing foes.

As the cultist rushes forward to meet his attackers an arrow penetrates his thin armor and lodges itself in the side his abdomen. In obvious pain he lashes out at Triana, missing badly, but causing the bard to sidestep right into the oncoming blade of one of the kobolds. Clutching her side, Triana falls to the ground, and the kobold lets out a triumph yelp.

Mogguth is rushed by two of the little creatures who manage to miss her multiple times as they swing their blades wildly to and fro.

Trying his best to fend of his attackers they none the less get their blades through his defenses, slashing him several times, before he falls backwards onto the ground.

Triana's eye's opened and she turned to her saviour "Thanks Mogguth" then her strength returning she stood gripping her sword and turned on the Kobolds. As Mogguth struggles with Tayleron a small slide in the door opens and someone peers out. "More townsfolk!" someone yells as the door is quickly opened. A few of the panicked villagers break to run, but a calm voice from within the building convinces them that it's safer inside. With some help Tayleron is dragged in and unceremoniously dropped to the floor as several of the villagers rush to close and bar the door.

Inside are dozens of panicked townsfolk, some or cowering in whatever cover they can find, while others stomp out torches that are being thrown through the windows. A single calm figure stands in the middle of the room and walks towards you.

"I am Eadyan Falconmoon, a priest of this temple" he looks down at the ranger sprawled along the floor and hands Mogguth a small vial of red liquid. "My last one. Hopefully it will provide your friend the strength needed to provide the help that you so kindly offered."

Just then a large crash comes from the front of the building as the large doors are rammed from the outside. Shaking his head Eadyan asks, "So what's the plan? And what can I do to help?"
Oct 5, 2016 12:34 am
"Thank you goodman, Eadyan Falconmoon." Mogguth unstoppers the vial and pours it down Tayleron's throat, massaging his throat to help him swallow.

"The keep is defended, we need to get you there, but the building is surrounded. Also, they were attempting to set a fire to this door, which is why we rushed in with so few numbers."

Eadyan looks about the church, doing a quick count, before turning his attention back to the group. "Appears that we have roughly thirty townspeople... Thirty three, now that you've joined us." he says as he watches Mogguth administer the potion to Tayleron.

"That ought to do him nicely. He should be fully conscious in moments."

"As far as getting to the keep, I'm afraid that the only people in this temple capable of handling weapons are the three of you. What these people do have in abundance, however, is fear."

A loud crack emanates throughout the structure as the front door is rammed a second time. "I don't think it will take much provoking to get them to run, should a clear path to the keep exist"
Oct 6, 2016 1:10 pm
Tayleron sits up slowly, shaking his head and coughing. He then notices the large group of people standing around.Oh hello. Ummm Mogguth what happened?
Oct 6, 2016 1:34 pm
"Well, since the cultist was trying to set the building on fire, I thought the best to be would be inside." She helps Tayleron to his feet.

"We don't have any trained fighters here, other than ourselves, and I'd like to try to get them all to the keep. Any ideas?"
Oct 8, 2016 5:16 pm
Triana spent a few minutes considering the answer she received, in her mind their was only one thign that they could do. "I say we try and make a run for it, we draw the cultists attention. Maybe open the back door then the front."
Oct 12, 2016 10:00 pm
"There are an awful lot of people here to try and make it all the way to the keep without being noticed. Do you three think you can keep everything that may be out there away from us as we run to the keep?"
Oct 13, 2016 7:04 am
Triana didn't hesitate "The only way to know is to try and since they aren't likely to let up. It's either wait here or go out there." She looked directly at the priest Eadyan as she said this.

Another loud crash rocks the building as the front door takes another heavy hit. The frame around the door has started to splinter and people are becoming even more panicked.

Eadyan nods to Triana. "I'll gather the others and await your signal. One question, however. Surely the keep has been secured by now, how are we all to get inside?"
Oct 14, 2016 11:28 pm
"We could rush the gates, but they may not be able to open them quickly. We do know another way, but I'm loathe to draw they enemies attention to it. Still, better it than nothing."
Oct 17, 2016 10:00 am
How about small groups at a time. We can keep them busy at the front while letting small groups out the back. Have them run to the gate then the next and so on?
Oct 17, 2016 11:38 pm
Desperate to do something and with little time to discuss options Eadyan starts to round up the others and move them into the back of the building. "When you're ready lead the way and I'll have everyone follow"
Oct 18, 2016 11:24 pm
"Well, we have to take a chance. Sooner or later they'll get in. Okay, Trianna, lead them to the tunnel. Here's the key. Tayleron and I will try and distract them or at least cover the rear. Let's everyone be extra sneaky, there are cultists about looking for easy pickings."
Oct 20, 2016 12:19 pm
Eadyan is there any way to see the front door from a second floor? If possible we could harry the foe from a vantage point while they slip out the back. Kind of keep their attention directed up and not at their own level.

"While the building is large, it is but a single story."
Oct 21, 2016 10:17 am
Triana turned to the others "If that is what we are doing I say we do it now. Eadyan I want you to quickly gather the villiagers into groups. I want each group to have one person who can assist any infirm people per group. Then I want them to gather with me and make sure they know we are going quitely, so make sure any children know this. Do it quickly and quitely." She turned to the others "I'll come back to join you once I've got the last group to the keep. Hold out as long as you can."
Nov 3, 2016 5:47 pm
Aye we shall hold as long as we are able Triana. Just do your part and get these people to safety. With that being said Tayleron pulls out his short sword and places it within arms reach and readies his bow.Come Mogguth let us dance with our friends outside! His grin is wide and manic.
Nov 3, 2016 7:35 pm
Mogguth nods to the archer. She grips her shield and hefts her axe.
Nov 4, 2016 7:44 pm
Eadyan ushers the first group of ten villagers towards the back entrance of the temple. "The first group is ready" he says quickly to Triana before running off and trying to organize another group. Pushing the back door just slightly ajar, Triana peeks out to ensure the coast is clear and then motions the first group to follow. Scared and panicked two of the villagers rush out the door and start to make a mad scramble towards the keep. Several of the others shout for them to come back but the two are quickly out of sight.

Triana skillfully leads the remaining eight villagers through the brush along the stream in order to conceal their movement. A couple of minutes later just as the group is running out of useful cover the Keep comes clearly into view. It is now completely encircled by raiders, most of whom are simply raising a ruckus and cheering on the blue dragon as it sweeps in for another attack.

Motioning the group to follow along the bank of the stream Triana locates the entrance to the tunnel but just as she about to open it a loud commotion can be heard rushing towards her. The two villages who broke from the group earlier are running full tilt towards the stream, with two kobolds close on their heels.
Shortly after Triana departs another loud crash at the front of the temple destroys the entrance way. Through the dust and debris a lone figure motions others forward and before any of the villagers can begin to react two humans and three kobolds rush in and start to attack anyone who happens to be close.

Missing badly with her axe, the two remaining kobolds brush by both Mogguth and Tayleron and head for the villagers cowered in the back of the temple and immediately start to attack. Try as they might to fend them off, two of the villagers are quickly left bleeding on the ground.

The two cultists move forward to engage, but before the first can get a strike in at Mogguth she steps forward, shield first and interrupts his attack. Tayleron's attacker, however, is more successful and catches the ranger in the ribs with his blade.
As the two villagers who had rushed out of the temple earlier run for the lives Triana sees an opportunity to intervene.

Those are the villagers who had initially rushed out and the kobolds chasing them are focused solely on them. The other bandits surrounding the keep are distracted with whatever it is they are doing. Triana is fairly sure the villagers she is leading will be safe if they keep to the brush.

While the kobolds in the temple continue their attack on the villagers, one of the groups that Eadyan had prepared rushes out the back door in a panic, not waiting for the kobolds to get to them. Meanwhile the cultists continue their attacks on Mogguth and Tayleron. While Mogguth knocks away her attacker's blade Tayleron isn't able to dodge the incoming attack and a deep gash on his shoulder starts to bleed.
Not wanting to draw unwanted attention the villagers huddle in the brush as Triana instructs.

Timing her attack to perfection she lets the lead kobold do most of the work as it runs itself through on her blade. Seeing his companion impaled the second kobold rushes forward to attack but his reckless swings don't come close to connecting.

I've been nerfing most of the groups to try and accommodate for the three person party and it's still going rough.

Emboldened by her swift kill Triana stepped around the poor swing done by the second Kobold. She cast the first corpse to ground and thrust. As her blade pierced the second Kobold she slid the blade out and turned towards the two running people. "Follow me quickly and quietly" sh me said moving back towards the others.

"The others!" the leader yells out to Tayleron's attacker. "Finish the others!" With that the man who was attacking Tayleron runs to join his kobold companions at the back of the temple to help with the continued slaughter of the villagers.

Mogguth swinging her axe wildly misses badly and is thrown a bit off balance as the leader joins in on the attack. Her shield manages to deflect most of the incoming blows, but the leader's sword finds a way through, catching the cleric on the arm. [9HP]
Having dealt with the kobolds and gathered her entire group together Triana leads the group to the tunnel and quietly ushers everyone inside. While still slightly panicked the villagers work their way through the dark tunnel until they arrive at the keep.

Nighthill, who is obviously thrilled to see the return, quickly realizes that not everyone has made the trip. "The others? Where are they?" he asks.

As she guides the survivors through the tunnel Triana, feels a moment of relief she knows she'll have to head out again, it wouldn't be right to abandon thecothers. Once in the chapel she waves to the oldman, "they are still at the temple I have to go back quickly. My companions are fighting still." Triana turns swiftly heading back through the gate.

Triana makes her way to the wall just south of the temple. While the door is still wide open, she sees no signs of activities inside the building. Just before she's about to make her move the roving mob of bandits starts around the corner from the right of the building.

I think that knocks Mogguth out of the fight as well. Please confirm and if so we'll see if Triana gets there in time to stabilize you.

Tayleron wakes, still in the temple, to find the room filled with corpses. Next him lies Mogguth's lifeless body.
Triana wakes to find that the bandits who had been surrounding the keep are starting to leave but does hear a deep voice calling out to those in the keep.
Ygritte and Kettyr, two adventurers who happened to make it to the keep and remained unscathed throughout the night, watch as a creature approaches out of the darkness and into the dim light of the dying fires around the keep. Although it is shaped roughly like a human, it is at least seven feet tall, its skin is covered in blue scales, its fingers bear wicked claws, and its face has the muzzle and reptilian eyes of a dragon.

The creature stops about eighty yards from the main gate of the keep and scans the walls. A line of kobolds fans out behind it. With their spears, they prod four human prisoners into the dim light. You can make out a woman, a teenaged boy in a blood soaked tunic, and two children. Then the creature hails the keep in a deep, raspy voice.

"Defenders of Greenest! This has been a successful night and I am feeling generous. Do you see these four pitiful, useless prisoners? We have no need for them, so I will trade them back to you. Send out you best warrior to fight me and you can have these four in exchange."

One of the defenders in the keep curses under his breath and grabs his weapon. As he starts to rush forward Escobert and a few others restrain the wounded main. Nighthill approaches Ygritte.

"I realize this is an awful burden to bear, but you have a better chance to defeat that horror than anyone hear. Will you step forward as Greenest's champion?"

Tayleron sits up groggy. He holds his head in his hand and then looks around. Oh no Mogguth. Go with Sylvanus my friend. May your journey be a peaceful one. Tayleron takes her holy symbol and places it around his neck. He then lays her axe across her chest. Seeing the bloodshed and carnage in the temple makes Tayleron ashamed that he couldn't do more to help these people. He gathers his belongings and slips to the back door.
OOC:
If the coast is clear Tayleron will slip down to the gully and back into the keep. Looking for anyone that may have survived.

She steps forward and nods at Nighthill. "My sword, my life, my faith, would be put to no greater use." She kisses her medallion to Bahamut and whispers. "Guide me this day, o great one. Our work continues."
Jan 7, 2017 5:32 pm
"The citizens of Greenest thank you" Nighthill says as Ygritte exits the keep and approaches the creature.

Obviously pleased that someone has offered themselves for the challenge the creature motions to his kobold minions who immediately release the three children. As they run towards the keep, one of the kobolds readies a spear, but before he is able to release it the large creature springs into action, rushes the kobold and cuts him down with a single swipe of his sword.

"Let that serve as a warning! This is to be one on one combat. Any interference from the citizens of Greenest will result in this women's death" he says, referring to the women who is still being held captive. He then turns to his minions and shouts what one can only assume is a similar warning in their native tongue.

"Ready yourself, warrior" he yells to Ygritte as he takes on a fighting stance, his greatsword still dripping with kobold blood.
OOC:
Ygritte should roll for initiative, if you beat the creature's roll go ahead and take your action.
Triana does NOT have her spells back, but this will soon be rectified.
Tayleron (and Triana) would have no problem sneaking into the tunnel and returning to the keep and watching the fight between Ygritte and the creature.

She tosses her hair and limbers her shield, drawing her sword as she leaves the keep. She considers attacking the creature from range, but ruefully smiles. She is on a different path, now.

As she approaches, she girds herself, rising onto the balls of her feet, crouching slightly, knees bent, shield raised, sword pointed at the creatures heart.

"Ready when you are."

"Very well!" the creature growls as what appears to be a slight smile appears on his long muzzle.

Kettyr clenches his fists as he watches the duel. He remembers a rainy night in the courtyard of the academy, when he was only a boy, but he pushes the memory from his mind. He turns once back toward the orange glow of the village, then watches the combat with two hands on his quarterstaff. Ygritte deserves his attention.
Jan 8, 2017 1:27 am
The creature cringes slightly as Ygritte's blade penetrates both his armor and scaly hide. "Impressive!" he says calmly, taking a single step back before returning the favor with a quick lunge of his own. He watches as Ygritte slumps to the ground. Tilting his head back he lets out a roar loud enough that his minions cover their ears in pain.

"The women is yours" he bellows as the kobolds release the last prisoner. As she runs to the safety of the keep, Nighthill and a few others rush out.

"Do you wish to die as well?" the creature asks, taking a guarded stance.

Nighthill stops dead in his tracks, "I do not, I merely wish to aid our fallen champion" he explains, throwing his arms in the air to show that he is unarmed.

"So be it then."

He turns and yells out a command to his minions, who watch as their leader turns and calmly walks away from the keep. They slowly fall in behind him barking and screaming their approval of the outcome of the fight.

Nighthill and the others reach Ygritte quickly afterwards. Forcing the red contents of several vials down her throat they wait with baited breath for any signs of life. Several long minutes pass before the Paladin lets out a raspy cough and slowly lifts her head.

"Get her to the keep and let her rest" Nighthill commands.

Confused and dazed Triana awoke upon the hard ground, the sounds of Battle had faded and some how she had not been killed. A whisper of a prayer or twhnk you left heft her cracked lips as she stood. One hand on her blood arm she willed what magic she had to warm the likb to little effect. Then collecting her sword she began her stumbling walk back to the keep.

Reaching the gate and the dark tunnel took some effort and by the time she entered, she h ard the sounds of discussion, people describing the valient efforts of a woman named Yrgritte fending off the attacks of the raiders leader. Triana felt her heart drop stumbling through the castle until someone caught her. "Yrgritte, take me to this Yrgritte" she said gasping out, the woman who caught Triana shook her head and lead Triana to a nearby cot. "Please rest you're far to fun injured to be caring about such a thing" as Trish was set onto the cot her boots removed and sword taken off her and set aside Triana only murmured "my cr...aft"
