Out of Character posts.

Feb 11, 2015 10:21 pm
Hello everyone.

I'm going to be out of town from Thursday morning until Sunday night and I doubt I will have an opportunity to post while I am away with my family.

I'll check back in and update sometime Monday morning.

Here is a link to the maps I will draw out for this game. We are not playing "on the grid" but I will use them to help keep everyone thinking along the same lines for general player/enemy locations.

Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Had a little back and forth with admin over the fact that I can't view anybody else's character sheets. Apparently that's by design. Could everybody share a little pertinent info (whatever you're okay with the rest of the group knowing) about your characters?

Ewan is a level 2 tiefling fighter (eldritch knight), high strength, low wisdom. He uses a glaive, a short sword, scale mail, and a shield.

Kicsi Leszúr is a second level Lightfoot Halfling Monk. Her main weapon is a sword that she has named Kard, which she received as a gift from one of her fellow monks at the monastery. Typical attributes that you'd expect a halfling monk to have I suppose.

Her name roughly translates to "Little Stab" in Hungarian.

I do love me some maps. Thanks, Arjen!

Mac is a second level human evocation wizard. He is dressed rather plainly and doesn't really use any weapons besides his wand. He has good Int, of course, and also decent Con and Dex.

Hey there, I have a couple questions, I just want to make sure that I understand everything. If I don't prepare Detect Magic I can cast it from my spellbook, but it would take 10 minutes and wouldn't expend a spell slot, right? Also, can I cast Mage Armor on myself?

For tomorrow I'm going to prepare:
Mage Armor
Shield
Sleep
Burning Hands
Disguise Self

If I'm understanding rituals totally wrong and I need to prepare Detect Magic to cast it then swap it with Disguise Self.

Ghelin is a lvl 2 Hill Dwarf Cleric of the Trickery Domain, he is a Folk Hero and was blessed by a celestial/fey creature. Uses a Warhammer passed down from his Grandfather. Very wise, and moderate Con and Str as well.

I have yet to play a spell caster but from my reading of the Mage Armor spell I don't think you can cast it on yourself. I thought I had read someplace that in order to cast a spell on yourself that the spell had to specifically allow for it. But what do I know, I'm just a halfling monk. :-)

EDIT: Please disregard the above as I just remembered where I read about having a spell allow for a self cast. It was the 13th Age rule book. :-/

Do we get experience from the battle? Or will we just level up at the DM's discretion?
Mar 21, 2015 4:44 pm
I think I'd prefer to use the DM's discretion approach, but will be happy with whatever Arjen decides.
Mar 24, 2015 5:32 pm
Yes, I'll use story point level gains to keep the flow consistent.
Mar 24, 2015 5:38 pm
And yes, Mac's detect magic is still active.

May 26, 2015 9:20 pm
Maybe Ewan can help a brother out...
May 27, 2015 3:11 am
Yes. Here's hoping Ewan and Mac can sort things out!
May 27, 2015 3:14 am
Haven't seen Mac in a while. You still around?
May 27, 2015 3:19 am
Good point. Mac?! I hope you are still interested!
Jun 3, 2015 7:03 pm
Round 2

1. Kicsi
2. Ghelin
3. Ewan
4. Mac
5. Stirge 4

I'll continue to NPC Mac and try to contact him again and see what is the situation.
Jun 9, 2015 5:51 pm
Checking in everyone. It's been five days without a post!
Jun 9, 2015 10:05 pm
Kicsi is still her. I think Ghelin is up, yes?
Jun 10, 2015 1:01 am
The last stirge is dead but still hanging on to Kicsi. We are now out of combat
Jun 26, 2015 2:30 am
It would seem that both Ghelin and Mac are officially MIA.

Would you prefer I put out requests for replacements or tailor the adventure for the two of you? I don't mind NPCing Mac and Ghelin a bit in the interim.
Jun 26, 2015 4:19 pm
Up to you! I just phased the MIA players out of my game and that seemed to work okay.
Jul 1, 2015 2:33 am
I actually enjoy games with only 2-3 players. It makes the interactions that much more interesting and memorable.
Jul 21, 2015 1:02 am
Checking in with everyone to see how the leveling up is going!
Jul 21, 2015 1:36 am
Balls! I totally forget to do that. I'll have Kicsi all caught up later tonight or tomorrow. Sorry.

We started at Level 2, yes? Moving to 3 now?

Kicsi is ready to roll. Took the "Way of Shadow" Monastic Tradition, sounded like fun.
Jul 21, 2015 2:21 am
Sorry, having a crazy month. I'll be leveled soon!
Jul 21, 2015 2:53 pm
Yeah, that sounds right. I may have said to level 2 when I meant level 3.
Jul 24, 2015 1:52 am
I'm going with the Eldritch Knight archetype available to Ewan at level 3. Updated sheet on its way.

Very cool! Time for me to read up on your upgrades!

Hello everyone!

I'm leaving tonight with my wife and son to vacation in Alaska for a week with her family! As you may expect, my availability to post most likely will be nonexistent. We return late in the evening on 4 August and will be looking forward to update the next day.

See everyone in a week!
Jul 27, 2015 10:12 pm
Have fun!!
Jul 29, 2015 9:34 pm
Watch out for moose!
Aug 5, 2015 3:14 pm
Saw a lot of moose! A dozen bears as well. And most impressive, Mt. Denali was visible for us!.

I'm obviously back. If everyone has their characters leveled I will move us forward!
Aug 7, 2015 7:02 pm
I haven't finished updating my sheet yet, but if you want to get things rolling I'll have it posted by Sunday!
Aug 7, 2015 8:13 pm
Okay. I'll look to get us running again on Monday then. Will that work for the other two of you?
Aug 8, 2015 3:59 pm
Kicsi is ready to roll!
Aug 9, 2015 1:00 am
Terrific!
Aug 11, 2015 6:33 pm
OK, I think Ewan is all updated for 3rd level now.
Aug 11, 2015 7:22 pm
Riznof has been inactive for over two months now. We may be down to just the two of you!

I'll move the story forward and see what happens.

They are about ten feet by ten feet and hung by chains at the top. The bars are spaced less than five inches apart. Your intuition tells you they are traps that can be used to crash down on those walking through this corridor.
Sep 1, 2015 1:43 am
No. The entire corridor is covered by the traps. Well, there is a small gap in between one cage and the next, but it is very small; not much more than 10 inches.
Sep 3, 2015 1:52 am
Okay Szemely, that was a seriously cool idea! Well played!
Sep 3, 2015 1:58 am
Thank you! I was just looking for an excuse to have Kicsi use one of her newly learned tricks. :-)
Sep 14, 2015 2:31 am
Are we in another room now? What's it look like?
Sep 15, 2015 8:58 pm
Not yet. You're still standing in the doorway.
Oct 9, 2015 12:48 pm
Hello all,

I'm afraid that issues with my family will require that I withdraw from running this game. I simply do not have the time necessary to provide a worthwhile game experience for you. I apologize and feel badly that it needs to end abrupt as this but I see no other option. I will continue to run the Call of Cthulhu game as that will be much more manageable.

Thank you very much for playing. Hopefully we can game again some day in the future.

Thanks for running the game, Kicsi certainly had a good time. :-) Hope the issues are nothing major and that everything works out for you.

Nothing too bad, I just don't have the time to be running multiple games. Looking forward to keeping up with our CoC game!
