Fabled Wandering

Feb 8, 2023 1:54 pm
Fable looks at the walled city before him. From what he knows Gamulur was just another small dwarven comunity with its only intersting point being that the dwarves built it by a river on the surface. Something about harvesting timber. Though it still ships wood to the other dwarven cities further north it has grown more into a trade center for the dwarves and other races nearby. Hopefully it will provide Fable the oportunity she seeks, or at least prove not to be a mistake.
OOC:
@Yunera Start Fable off with a bit of why he is traveling and his plans as he heads into the city.
Feb 8, 2023 7:31 pm
Fable is walking towards the city having barely escape the last one where they got into trouble for breaking into a warehouse and "redistributing" food again and being caught by the guard. Fable hopes to lay low for a while and maybe find some adventuring work or opportunities for shady business.

I don't know a lot about dwarves, but I heard they stick together in clans. Better stay human for now, otherwise they might ask some hard to answer questions.

Fable currently looks like an medium sized human male in his 30s, with thin black hair and a spotty beard and wears a long dark cloak but has the hood down as to not raise to much suspicion, but still keeps the rapier visible to show that they are not easy prey for bandits.
OOC:
Do Changelings have a "real" form or do they start imitating right away? I imagined them being rather featureless or not having a defined form, that's why I picked a gender-neutral name.

OOC:
I am familiar with several variants but have not used them in my world so feel free to make changelings what you want
Feb 9, 2023 1:56 pm
OOC:
Okay, so I just assume Fable does not have an original form.

"Well, nothing to do then to go and search for an inn and see what's what."

Fable proceeds towards the city and if unhindered will try find an inn or tavern to see if there is work available or at least find a place to stay.
Feb 10, 2023 7:31 pm
The port city Gate is manned by a mix of human and dwarven guards who let your through with only a casual look. You get directions to a a couple of inns and have your choice of seedy, rough, reputable, and push.
The bustle sends a bit high for this size of city, likely due to its role as a year hub. You note that most merchants travel with a guard even though the civic guard appears neat and patrols regularly. You hear a recent commotion has brought an increase in adventurers and other less savory types. Your asparagus keeps you free of unwanted underworld fingers but several sets of eyes are felt gauging you as you pass by.
Reaching your choice of the inns you make arrangements for a meal and room then find a quiet corner to sit in and eat before heading back out.
OOC:
Fable has a "natural" appearance at birth. You can pick one or i will. Most changelings learn to maintain their assumed form even while asleep or unconscious. Though there are ways it can slip or be forced out.
Feb 10, 2023 7:56 pm
With a good meal and lodging secured Fable heads out to get a feel for the town. The town has wide regular main streets with neatly fitted stones making them the preferred paths of carts and caravans. These streets are maintained often and cleaned regularly. The building that front them are all two stories tall and seem to be the more respectable upscale establishments. Down the side streets with cobblestone or simple dirt roads the buildings become shabbier and the guards patrol less frequent and in larger numbers. The docks are busier than the roads in and out of town with warehoused towards the north and taverns to the south with the dock administration building dividing things.
You stop into a couple different taverns just to check the atmosphere and local gossip finally finding one with the right crowd you are looking for. Alert gazes are mixed with drunken banter and a smiling, though massive and scarred barkeep set just the right condition to pick up whatever you might be looking to learn.
OOC:
Let me know if you want to do anything in particular otherwise I will find a thread to tangle you up in :)

OOC:
Tangle away :D
I thought about their original form, I think it should be something recognizable. Like a women with bright red hair.
"Hey barkeep. Would you be so kind as to bring me one of those dwarven ale?"

Fable takes a good look around trying to see if there is something interesting going on.

"You look like just the person who knows where a dashing adventurer like me might find well paying work" says Fable with a wink.

OOC:
I can work with that and am thinking the default changeling can have accentuated features, overly large eyes and larger pointed ears, with vivid hair coloring but it inly grows on top of their head, and long fingers and toes that lack cuticles, but a dull brown/grey skin tone.

The barkeep looks Fable over and replies with a grin The caravans always need guards but if you are looking for something a bit more challenging and out of the way you should head to the docks and ask around for Corwin. He's recruiting for something big down river. There's is also a small mercenary guild that you can join or take advantage of their freelance out contracts, for a fee of course. and he chuckles at the thought of the double meaning in the mercenary life's "cut throat business"
Feb 13, 2023 10:11 am
Fable grins.

Just what I needed now and outside the city no less.

"Well, that was certainly helpful, thank you".

Fable bows and flips a coin to the barkeep as tip. After finishing the ale they head down to the docks to find Corwin.

Lets hear what the "something big" is and then I can ask Joe for advice.
Feb 13, 2023 1:49 pm
Having learned that only those holding Joe can hear his voice and though magic is common, walking around talking to a chess piece has never gone well so you decide to wake him up and talk with him later. The docks are easy enough to find and it only takes a few minutes to find this Corwin.
Corwin
An older human male, Corwin sits in a little office with a window writing something out on papers and placing these in dispatch pouches or into slots on a cupboard behind himself. In asking about for directions you learn a bit more about the the job. Mercenaries, usually in small groups, have been hired as guards while others have signed on as scouts to explore some ruins down river. They have hired an assortment of other basic laborers as well as a few basic service and craft specialist. The pay is good but anyone they take is required to sign a magic pact of secrecy so can say noting about the expedition.
Feb 14, 2023 10:28 am
"Mr Corwin?", Fable ask while entering.

"I am looking for work and people started pointing me your way. Fable, adventurer and expert for acquisition and reposition at your service."

Fable bows with a grin, pretty satisfied with their overdramatic entrance.

Looking you over he nod I am recruiting for a acheological expedition. Your skills may come in handy and he chuckles or get you in trouble. The pay is good but the stipulation is that all employees sign this here contract

He hands over a small writing tabled with a scroll attached. It has both high, used by mages and priests, and low, made with simplistic ideograms, scripts. The magic of the contract ensures you understand the contents to say that you are bound for a minimum of 1 month and will never reveal any expedition secrets, including its location or activities, without their consent. In return you will be paid, fed, and sheltered.

I have a boat heading out tomorrow. Sign and I will see you get on board. Any questions?
Feb 15, 2023 12:37 pm
Fable takes the contract and tries to read Corwin.

I wonder if he is hiding something. This seams way to easy. I wonder if Corwin is hiding something.
OOC:
Can I "sense motive" to see if anything odd is going on with Corwin?
Feb 15, 2023 1:56 pm
OOC:
Sense motive is fine. This system is open to almost anything if it is something you do in life or another game feel free to do it here
Fable gets a definite underworld vibe from Corwin. He doesn't seem to be lying right now, more like he is working the long con and sees a new piece he might be able to use
OOC:
FYI Another character may join you in a bit or on the boat ride

"Everything looks in order, sign here you say?"

Fable signs the document. "Anything else I should know?"
OOC:
Looking forward to it :D
Feb 16, 2023 1:36 am
A flurry of chaos sounds outside of the door before Meep's small form bursts into the room. With a mix of walking, hopping and fluttering he gets in front of the desk and peeks over it to Corwin. "Is there still work? I have never hunted items before but it sounds fun! Can Meep work for you and go on boat?"
OOC:
Hello! Excited to be here :D

Anyway all you have to do is read this and sign it. Then like I told this man I will get you on the boat first thing in the morning. and he pulls out another wooden plate with scroll handing it over to Meep

Looking back to Fable he answers Not much more too it. Details and specific work assignments can be had at the expedition base It will take about 5 days for the boat to get there. While on the boat you will be expoected to listen to the captain and serve as guards should the ned arrise.

Oh and once you sign you get your first tenday week pay in advance

"That sounds wonderful. A pleasure doing business with you Mr. Corwin."

Fable turns around to face Meep.

"Looks like we share a boat. Pleasure to meet you. I am Fable. Dashing adventurer and expert for acquisition and reposition at your service."

Fable bows deeply and then puts out their hand.

Sounds even fancier if I add the 'dashing'. Fable thinks smirking a bit.

If Meep had lips and not a beak, he would have been smiling. As it is, his face still somehow conveys the joy he feels. "Meep is my name. Looking forward to it!" He glances at the scroll and signs without reading it very closely.

He looks over to Fable and attempts to mimic the bow. It doesn't go very well and he gives up after having to flutter to save from face planting. So he settles for shaking Fable's hand with both of his. "I am much pleased to meet you! You sound very experienced Fable sir, Meep just hunts. Do you like rabbits? I do." The words come out in a bustle of chirps and he keeps shaking Fable's hands.
