Lets do this.
Mar 6, 2023 2:02 am
Anything that you want to remove from you starting stuff is just gone. Not fooling around with sale. May be require for encumbrance. Anything without an encumbrance starting then use common thought or ask your handy DM. Do not add anything that is not in your starting stuff. You will get a chance/time to add stuff.

Once we have all characters to this level. Then we will add bonus spending $$$. ( Anticipation) This is where a lot of misc. stuff is added. Some of such is free like scabbards and/or holder as well as weapon belts and such to personalize out your character's gear.

Smiles. As a DM, I always suffer when I allow starting magics, but you are level 7. My thoughts here is to make a list of what is available for starting. I will take suggestions and then edit this post with a list. First, I will take your suggestions then add mine.

List:
Potion of Healing
Mar 7, 2023 6:09 pm
We have: Basil, DunnHD, MaJunior, Mathfuric, and szemely as selected players. So, unless the creation for characters doesn't get too long I will not be creating individual spot for each. Everything is fairly much posted here. Goal is to get all five you with characters done and then we will go on to get BONUS $$$ and Magics. As surely you feel your characters are a bit lean for level 7. I'm also sure that during the creation process you find that the packs are not great and tend to encumber out your backpacks. Never used 10 torches in fairly much all my years of gaming combined. Excuse me for not giving you gold for your removals. You can use the PC race languages for any extra learned languages you get. Mounts will not be needed to buy.

Edit: Edit if your missing gear like kits and such. Don't sweat it. BONUS $$$ will solve that as any missing gear you want.
Mar 7, 2023 6:13 pm
Yippie! Thanks Gene!

So does everone have an "idea" of what they plan on playing? I think Im going for something simple with personality. Good ole Fighter. Of course that could change.

I should have something later today. I have a char with another very very slow campaign that I think I will just port over here.
Mar 7, 2023 6:18 pm
Fighters are always cool. Looking forward to see it. You can apply incomplete characters as it does let me PEAK at them. NPC's can be added to cover any needed class. Feel free to pick what you want to play.
Mar 7, 2023 6:57 pm
Keeping it PHB, probably going to multiclass Assassin Rogue with a little Barbarian.

I may ask about taking a feat from another book, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Mar 7, 2023 7:17 pm
Well aware that 5e isn't so feat heavy as previous editions, but that is it. So, selection of feat is limited as such. Excited to see your character MaJunior.
Mar 7, 2023 7:26 pm
The feat I'm looking at is from Tasha's. This is it:

SKILL EXPERT
You have honed your proficiency with particular skills, granting you the following benefits:
• Increase one ability score of your choice by 1, to a maximum of 20.
• You gain proficiency in one skill of your choice.
• Choose one skill in which you have proficiency. You gain expertise with that skill, which means your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make with it. The skill you choose must be one that isn't already benefiting from a feature, such as Expertise, that doubles your profi- ciency bonus.
Mar 7, 2023 11:14 pm
Well hello everyone :)

First up thanks for the invite Gene, secondly I am happy to take up the magic mantle for the party.

Thinking either Druid Or Sorcerer. Will probably play them plain as I have little experience with both.
Mar 7, 2023 11:49 pm
Good to see you again, Mathfuric! :-)

Rethinking things here, I think I'll go Cleric, War Domain - follower of Bane Tempus, perhaps. I'll give it a some time to simmer...

That is a negative MaJunior on the Skill Expert Feat.

"SKILL EXPERT

• Increase one ability score of your choice by 1, to a maximum of 20.
• You gain proficiency in one skill of your choice.

."

Be nice to see what you have Mathfuric. Ooo cool there. Szemely. Cleric is good. Winks. So are Druids Mathfuric.

Hope DunnHD takes the invite and is with us soon. Seems you four are coming along. :)
Mar 8, 2023 12:20 am
Any idea's about races and gender? Smiles. So far I haven't seen a mention of any race or gender yet. Although quite a bit for Class. So far looks that MaJunior is the only one going for multiclass. Looks to be a bit early for backgrounds.
Mar 8, 2023 12:21 am
Damn. I like skill proficiencies. Lol

Guessing "Skilled" from Xanathar's is also a no-go.
Mar 8, 2023 12:29 am
In 5e, proficiency is really just a bonus on the roll. It really doesn't imply anything else. Not even skill. Proficiency in earlier editions had more meaning.

Yes the "SKILL EXPERT" is a no go. Most likely Skilled in Xanathar's will get the same thought. You must have dug well as I have Xanathears and really can't find that. There is a PHB version of skills that might be looked over.

I understand one of the books likes to change the racial stat bonus, I would ignore that. So, if it says +2 CHA then that isn't +2 to anything. I feel that really unstates the racial by allowing the change. Like what's the point in even saying what it goes to.

There are things in the later books that I'm not happy with and the above is one of them. There are so many it is hard to remember them so I let you all find them if needed. I really go heavy on the PHB. I like your personality and play to define your character and not the stats. 5e has a way of making everyone about equal.

With accords to 5e verses skills. A fighter with no proficiency in arcane knows about much as the Wizard with proficiency. Wizard just probably has a better roll to beat some harder DC's.
Mar 8, 2023 12:52 am
Sorry, the one in Xanathar's is "Prodigy."

Proficiency (and expertise) do reflect your ability with a given skill though... by making you more likely to succeed, or to have the potential to succeed at higher DC checks. A nat 20 on a skill check can still fail, so those extra points can make all the difference. It also isn't unrealistic to say a character simply can't attempt a skill check without proficiency. (Most often see that with Arcana and Religion.)
Mar 8, 2023 1:08 am
LOL. I did find Prodigy on the net but failed to find it in the hard bound book. That is also a no-go for Prodigy too.

All characters regardless of the of their background, class, race or gender can attempt a skill check. It is the same for all. Once again proficiency bonus and expertise even are just a bonus on the roll to defeat DC. Just because you don't have proficiency or expertise never disallows you to try on a skill check. DC are set without the concerns of proficiency and expertise. And yes, a "1" or "20" has no other meaning in a skill check roll.

The above is how 5e treats skills.
Mar 8, 2023 1:11 am
If I go druid, due to lack of real experience with them I will stay plain and go Wood Elf.

More of a warrior protector type than pure spellcaster, this may mean a Ranger level or two (need to do a little reading).

Gender will be male.
Mar 8, 2023 1:15 am
Elf is not an allowed race in this particular game. So, Wood Elf is not allowed. Half-Wood Elf is allowed. No problem on Multiclassing. Just make sure you have the correct stats for it is all. That usually isn't a problem but sometimes it is overlooked. When multiclassing, the first class listed on your character sheet is you starting class so I can tell with doing any hunting.

In this game, Elf and Tiefling which normally are common PC are NPC races.
Mar 8, 2023 1:39 am
Cool no elves :)
Mar 8, 2023 3:51 am
So had a think and looking to make a field medic.

Druid/Ranger, Human (variant), male with Healer Feat.

Grew up in a small village, Druid father and Ranger Mother. Joined local militia at a young age as scout, wanting to use his skills to keep mates safe.

Eventually was asked to join the local Baron’s larger forces, through which he experienced wars and adventures. Finally being sick of being told what to do and fuelled on stories from old adventures he left the army seeking his own fortunes.

Dwarven Barbarian/Rogue Grappler!
Mar 8, 2023 4:02 am
Hey Basil, don’t know if Gene will allow it but have you looked into Path of Battlerager?
Mar 8, 2023 4:11 am
Have not looked. Never played a barbarian so keeping it pretty phb vanilla.
Mar 8, 2023 4:38 am
Out of Sword Coast
[ +- ] Path of Battlerager
Mar 8, 2023 5:16 am
I'm not looking for a lot on back history. Just as long as it includes something about your race, background, and class then I'm happy.
Mar 8, 2023 5:48 am
Sweet my history is done then :)
Mar 8, 2023 3:50 pm
Work in progress:

Jeurgen has always been quick to anger. His therapist reccomended breaking rocks, or maybe taking up a sport like wrestling to vent. That worked for a while, but the anger always came back. Not that bright, but not so stupid to know that one day his anger wouldn't cause problems for his clan Jerugen took to adventuring and found that slaughtering monsters was great therapy.
Mar 8, 2023 5:56 pm
Jeurgen is looking good. Thanx for the peak. Discord is available Basil.
Mar 8, 2023 6:11 pm
yuppers, Im actually working from home and on the phone with clients alot. Ill pop in when I get the chance though!
Mar 8, 2023 9:33 pm
Submitted Roland Nasmith - Human War Cleric in service to Tempus, the God of War.

He's still very much a work in progress, but thought I'd throw out what I have so far for your perusal, GC. I'll continue with updates through the next day or two.
Mar 8, 2023 10:25 pm
Looks like Roland is coming along. :) Alter your Discord name to indicate your character name.
Mar 9, 2023 4:22 am
Wow. We do have some really nice pictures of characters.
Mar 9, 2023 5:01 am
How are we doing HP? Fixed or Manual?

Rolled just in case :)

Rolls

HP - (8+4d8+2d10)

(1474) + (58) + 8 = 37

Mar 9, 2023 6:48 am
I edited the posting a while back. Max 1st and average for all the rest of the levels. No dice rolling.
Mar 9, 2023 3:43 pm
DunnHD wishes to take the invite when DunnHD has the character completed. So, it will be a mystery what DunnHD plans to bring in.
Mathfuric (Irwin ‘Doc’ Wade) Male Human -- Druid/Ranger, Human (variant), male with Healer Feat.
Basil (Jeurgen Hammerhand) Male Mountain Dwarf -- Jeurgen has always been quick to anger. His therapist recommended breaking rocks, or maybe taking up a sport like wrestling to vent. That worked for a while, but the anger always came back. Not that bright, but not so stupid to know that one day his anger wouldn't cause problems for his clan Jerugen took to adventuring and found that slaughtering monsters was great therapy.
Szemely (Roland Nasmith) Male Human -- Cleric, War Domain - follower of Bane Tempus
MaJunior -- Unknown.

MaJunior are you planning on joining us on Discord?

Mathfuric, Basil, & Szemely have all applied incomplete characters that I can peak at. Hopefully we can get all done soon. :)
Mar 9, 2023 3:53 pm
Probably won't be on Discord. Although I should have my character submitted here in a bit.
Mar 9, 2023 3:56 pm
I don't expect a lot of Discord action. MaJunior. But there will some action there.
Mar 9, 2023 3:57 pm
Im pretty much done, just proof reading etc...
Mar 9, 2023 4:06 pm
Looking Good Basil. Could use some gear: Background, Class & Trinket. Musical Instrument probably should be defined but you probably were waiting for the gear to do that. Personal Characteristics are missing as well as Height and Weight. Of course, other Physical Characteristics would be nice.
Mar 9, 2023 4:27 pm
Missing Class and Background? I got that in there. As far a gear goes purposely kept that blank until you came up with that
Mar 9, 2023 5:07 pm
Is it possible to allow custom sheets?
Mar 9, 2023 5:42 pm
MaJunior. I don't wish to have to hunt character sheets for info. That is why it is set at standard 5e sheets but thanks for asking.

Basil. You should have all the starting gear on your character sheet. That is Class, Background, & your free Trinket before go to the stage of BONUS $$$ and Magic. That is to say you have a completed character before BONUS $$$ and Magic.
Mar 9, 2023 5:56 pm
Gotcha understood!
Mar 9, 2023 5:58 pm
I think I have Roland ready to roll. He's at #79.2/#85 as far as encumbrance goes after gutting the contents of his Priest's Pack. I'll adjust as needed.
Mar 9, 2023 6:08 pm
Szemely. I understand that about the Priest Pack.. LOL...Did you gut the trinket too. Are you going to go with that Alignment?
Mar 9, 2023 6:29 pm
GeneCortess says:
Szemely. I understand that about the Priest Pack.. LOL...Did you gut the trinket too. Are you going to go with that Alignment?
Yep, gutted the trinket as well (just a spoil from battle object of some sort). Yes, going to stick with pure Neutral as it corresponds with Tempus' alignment.
Mar 9, 2023 6:32 pm
All Cool Szemely. Just can't tell from default or not.

Battle Object is fine for Trinket. Don't have to use the table. I sometimes don't either. Pends on the character. But I always take my free trinket.
Mar 9, 2023 6:56 pm
How are we tracking encumberance? Not really an issue for my build generally speaking but was curious. Str * 15?
Mar 9, 2023 6:58 pm
Basil Using the standard PHB version (Not the harder breakdown version). Mostly likely you backpack limit of 30# will be the culprit problem. Starting pack break that encumbrance limit. I tend to use all the PHB. Starting packs probably were meant to be reduced.
Mar 9, 2023 7:04 pm
Fun fact - my carrying capacity is 510, push pull lift is with 1020! Its a barbarian bear thing!
Mar 9, 2023 7:07 pm
Smile. Above said about encumbrance. All packs get broken down. Jeurgen with his STR and no armor will not be worried about encumbrance. Just the backpack and pouch limits.
Mar 9, 2023 7:13 pm
Alright, as much as I hate the standard sheets, I guess I'll convert over to one.
Mar 9, 2023 7:49 pm
Smiles. Well, when you took the application, it was marked Standard Sheets only. I have DM several times before and well acquainted with the settings.
Mar 9, 2023 8:09 pm
GeneCortess says:
Battle Object is fine for Trinket.
Here we go then: The little finger from an armored glove - with the now decayed finger still inside.
Mar 9, 2023 8:10 pm
"Here we go then: The little finger from an armored glove - with the now decayed finger still inside." Woot
Mar 9, 2023 8:34 pm
So I think im done? Did a few updates let me know if there is anything missing.
Mar 10, 2023 1:42 am
Basil: As warned. Backpack only holds 30#. Looks like you have 59# listed with it. I can't tell how much is attached. Probably need a new sub spot for that.
Mar 10, 2023 2:22 am
MaJunior: Thanx for the peak. Just some off the top stuff that you might not have noticed. Hard to say as you're not done and all.

You have 6 skills listed. Human Variant gives 1. Outlander gives 2. Barbarian gives 2. Rogue gives 0.
You have 4 tools listed. Human Variant gives 0. Outlander gives 1. Barbarian gives 0. Rogue gives 0.
You have 4 languages listed. Human Variant gives 1. Outlander gives 1, Barbarian gives 0. Rogue gives 1.
Expertise works with skills that you already have or/and Thieves' tools. So, it doesn't add to the number of skills listed.
Missing Personal Characteristics.
Mar 10, 2023 2:30 am
The only equipment I have is bare bones starting equipment nothing more. Are you saying toss Everything i cant carry?
Mar 10, 2023 2:30 am
There is a table on p. 164 that shows what you get from a class when you multiclass into that class.

Rogue gives 1 skill from the class list.
Rogue also gives you proficiency with Thieves' Tools, and the subclass (Assassin) gives you proficiency with Disguise Kit and Poisoner's kit when you take it at level 3.
I should have four languages -- Common, 1 from Human Variant, one from Outlander, and Thieve's Cant from Rogue lvl 1.

Expertise and all personal info is listed under notes, since the sheet doesn't have a check box for expertise.

Yeppers Majunior. Your much better at it than my fast looksie. LOL. Then again you did build the character. Smile. I need to stop relying on my faulty memory. At least I did get Missing Personal Characteristics but you're not done with the character.

Some have edited the skill name and included the correct plus amount there. Example "Stealth +9 double proficiency" instead of just "Stealth"

Yeppers Basil. You end up dropping a lot of cheap stuff. I have no idea why they actually didn't set the packs up right.
Mar 10, 2023 3:03 am
What personal characteristics are missing?
Mar 10, 2023 3:10 am
If you put a + and a number I have found the dice roller will calculate. I did that for my expertise skills.
Mar 10, 2023 3:10 am
MaJunior: Personal Characteristics from PHB 123pg & 124pg to get Inspiration 125pg. I didn't see them listed on your character sheet. Usually, the background lists some examples for you.

2x Personality Traits
1x Ideals
1x Bonds
1x Flaws.
Mar 10, 2023 3:29 am
Oh those. Alright.
Mar 10, 2023 6:31 pm
Greeting to all! Glad to be here! And I apologize for my delay. Traveling for my work and connectivity and time were both hard to come by at the same moment. My guy;

Human male fighter - finesse battlemaster with rapier. Think of a down on his luck Innigo Montoya and Han Solo crammed together.

Tracking the encumbrance discussion. Nothing he has for equipment on his sheet matters except his rapier so it can all go if needed.

What I owe is his encumbrance, personality characteristics (in the hotel room), and background (love me a good backstory). Should do those tonight.
Mar 10, 2023 6:32 pm
Also I don't recall how to make my character available for viewing. If I need to do anything, GM, please let me know.
Mar 10, 2023 8:14 pm
Up top click on "Characters" Select All Characters. You should see all your characters there. Find your character and to far right Select the "Add to Library" symbol between the pencil and an "X". This will make your character viewable by everyone, not just the DM
Mar 10, 2023 8:24 pm
I think im finally done. DM take a looksee and let me know if im missing anything. Ready for some Cool $$tuff!
Mar 10, 2023 9:43 pm
I think I am done with character building
Mar 11, 2023 4:12 am
Musical instrument updated to Drum

I have Rage listed under the Feats/Ability’s section. Just need to Expand Totem Barbarian 6 field to see it.

I updated "Wealth" to read Coin Pouch. Not sure how much a pouch holds. The odd coinage reflects 10gp equivalent. I can change it back to 10gp if you prefer

Outlander skills are Athletics & Survival. That would overlap with Athletics chosen under Barbarian.

PHB pg 124 under proficiencies "If a character would gain the same proficiency from two different sources, he or she can choose a different proficiency of the same kind (skill or tool) instead".

I opted to take Medicine Skill. Let me know if you are interpreting this differently and ill adjust.
Mar 11, 2023 4:27 am
Okay. I try to go character sheets but experience has told me I usually miss stuff. Is Nara done?

Basil. Jeurgen Hammerhand. Male Mountain Dwarf. Outlander. Barbarian 6 (Path of the Totem Warrior -- Bear)/Rogue 1.

Woot. All good.

Mathfuric: Irwin ‘Doc’ Wade. Male Human. Outlander. Druid 5 (Circle of the land (Grasslands))/Ranger 2.

Needs a second Personal Trait. You need to have two. Missing fighting style?

LOL. Wasted 30 minutes to an hour to find out your spells are perfect.

Gear Correction: This is really to say your gear is just started at level 1 and going out the door. Suggestion is to copy, explode Explorer's pack, toss out any gear that exceeds the 30# backpack limit and/or don't care to really have. Mark anything that is attached to backpack such as Rope.

Background: A staff, a hunting trap, a trophy from an animal you killed, a set of traveler's clothes, and a pouch containing 10gp.
Class: Leather armor, an explorer's pack, and a druidic focus.
• (a) a wooden shield or (b) any simple weapon
• (a) a scimitar or (b) any simple melee weapon
Trinket: Trinket

Flor: Fior Delatan. Male Human Fighter. Soldier. Fighter 7 (Battle Master).

Missing human language bonus.

Fior: How do you get a Rapier & two daggers out of:

(a) a martial weapon and a shield or (b) two martial weapons
(a) a light crossbow and 20 bolts or (b) two handaxes

How do you have 15 gp:

Background: A staff, a hunting trap, a trophy from an animal you killed, a set of traveler's clothes, and a pouch containing 10gp.

You're not encumbered unless you exceed 210#. This is the simple encumbrance system.

There is no mention of your background soldier tools:

One type of gaming set, vehicles (land)
Mar 11, 2023 9:17 pm
Irwin ‘Doc’ Wade looks good.
Mar 11, 2023 9:22 pm
Nara Remere: Are you giving up your 10gp from outlander background?
Mar 11, 2023 9:24 pm
Nope, that 10gp is where the shield listed under gear came from since it's even money.
Mar 11, 2023 9:46 pm
Oh. I see now. You spent your starting gold instead of keeping the character at Background, class, & trinket. That is what was confusing me. Changes in your gear and such was to come when we do Bonus Coins $$$ and Magic. It is all cool. I just had to be told. I didn't catch the shield not being in your starting gear.
Mar 11, 2023 11:10 pm
Rapier is martial. Don't want a shield. Two daggers instead of hand axes. If this game is starting strict RAW as written, I also have studded leather. Not chain.

The gold doesn't matter to me but the 5gp difference came from the chain to studded leather conversion. Didn't follow the Do I have no flexibility in my purchases?

Cribbage is a game. Just jammed it together with my trophy.

Ditched the brewing kit because I thought you were using the more strict encumbrance.

Forgot I get a proficiency with a land vehicle. I'll take horse.
Mar 12, 2023 1:02 am
Fior: Okay. There is no return on the exchanges. So set your gold 10gp and all is good.
Mar 12, 2023 1:06 am
So far no one has given me any ideas for magic items. So now is a good time to injects some thoughts in. Everyone has 600gp to spend. I'm thinking in the area of uncommon magic items for the start. Obviously betters for play will happen.
Mar 12, 2023 2:00 am
Not technically magic but I'm thinking an admantine axe
Mar 12, 2023 2:30 am
A +1 rapier (or shortsword) is really all I feel I "need" for magic. At least to start. Even then, I'm more interested in armor and thieves' tools, so... the weapon will depend on price.

Gonna tweak my character a bit switching out feat I think. Kept it simple with stat increase.

What was the previous feat and what is the new feat you want? And an explanation of why the change.

Trinket roll for Irwin

I think for Irwin there are three options at uncommon:
1. Moon Sickle +1,
2. Bracers of Archery,
or,
3. Quiver of Ehlonna.

though I would really love an Animated Shield!

My prior feat was grappler. Instead of a feat I just took stat increase str and dex. Figured I could still accomplish the same thing without the feat.

Well the Grappler Sucked so sure I will allow the change.
Mar 12, 2023 3:16 pm
Let me know when you have spent your dear 600gp.. :)
Mar 12, 2023 4:01 pm
Is that 600 in addition to an uncommon item?
Mar 12, 2023 4:21 pm
Possible magic items for Roland (in order of preference):

1. Mithral Armor
2. Sentinel Shield
3. Javelin of Lightning
4. Mace +1
5. Headband of Intellect

Still figuring out how to spend the 600GP, will have something this evening worked out.
Mar 12, 2023 8:05 pm
Have heard the following magic items from Basil, MaJunior, Mathfuric, & szemely. DunnHD seem rather quiet.

Adamantine Axe (Added Periapt of wound closure)

+1 Rapier (or Shortsword), (added Heward's Handy Haversack), (added Decanter of Endless Water, Goggles of Night, Driftglobe, or maybe Gem of Brightness are probably all worth mentioning too)

Moon Sickle +1, Bracers of Archery, Quiver of Ehlonna. (added Lantern Of Revealing)

Mithril Armor, Sentinel Shield, Javelin of Lightning, Mace +1, Headband of Intellect
Mar 12, 2023 8:40 pm
Oh, I only suggested the +1 weapon(s), and was noting that most of my money would go towards (mundane) armor and thieves' tools.

Although I guess Heward's Handy Haversack is always worth mentioning.

Right now, all that we are doing is before the start. Start is when you leave this town together on the adventure. So, there are still a few hoops.

Oh. Correct MaJunior. All the 600gp is for mundane (Non magical) gear. 600gp is also not for special metal gear.

Understanding that you are going to be going at least 4 days out from town in the wilds of the forest should tell that you are going to need supplies for such. You know food, water, shelter... There are many steams and such around so having a water skin is enough and no need to haul water in barrel. Being that most of the party does not have darkvision it is best to think about that. Your hope is to obtain some goodies, and such so carry devices are useful.

Being that each party member is not allowed pets or anything else of the like. That also at this time includes mounts. You all are walkers. In the future this all might change.

All the gear you're getting with your dear 600gp is considered to be bought before you actually arrived in this town. So once again encumbrance is important. There is a high likeliness that you arrived to this town by wagon. You been on the road per say for weeks. There are many wagons that come here. So much nicer than the very long walk. All money matters before the adventure starts is considered paid for.

Fior has the Special "Artifact" sack that is needed later.

Hook: Party gathered for ruins exploration. All players should expect to be doing this with other players with like mind. At start party is gathered together in a room. Party member have had less than 5 minutes of previous interaction experience. Each player has had an advance interview and knows the score. All players are wanting to explore the ruins for one person reason or another and not concerned that the pay per say which is exceptionally low. Treasure beside the artifact hunted for are fully the parties. DM likes to give out TOYS.
Mar 12, 2023 9:02 pm
Decanter of Endless Water, Goggles of Night, Driftglobe, or maybe Gem of Brightness are probably all worth mentioning too.
Mar 12, 2023 9:13 pm
The admantine axe non magical but cost +500. Periapt of wound closure would be on my magical wish list.
Mar 12, 2023 9:16 pm
Party: 4 Male Humans & a Male Mountain Dwarf. All are about the same height and weight. Dwarf does move a touch faster. Of course, Irwin does wildshape. Jeurgen is the only one with Darkvision.

Roland Nasmith. Male Human. Move 30'. Age: 22, Height: 5'8", Weight: 195#, Muscular build - unkempt, shoulder lengthen hair, looks rough for his age.
Jeurgen Hammerhand. Male Mountain Dwarf. Move 35. Age 100, Ht 5’5, Wt 175, Hair Red Eyes, Steel Blue Gray, Darkvision 60'
Nara Remere. Male Human. Move 30'. Age 29, Height: 6' 1", Weight: 175 lbs., Hair: Black, Eyes: Blue
Irwin ‘Doc’ Wade. Male Human. Move 30'. Age: 20, Height: 5’8", Weight: 170lb., Hair: Light blonde, Skin: Pale
Mar 12, 2023 9:35 pm
Note: At times during the adventure, your dear DM will roll dice for you at times. This is only done to speed up the play. Example. DM calls for a combat and rolls each person's INIT. You can see the rolls to make sure I don't goof up. Group Perception check is another example.
Mar 12, 2023 9:40 pm
Age fixed
Mar 12, 2023 10:13 pm
Hmm...

Rolls

Age - (1d8+25)

(4) + 25 = 29

Mar 12, 2023 10:44 pm
I just made up some arbitrary numbers for my height weight age. Should i be rolling RAW?
Mar 12, 2023 11:32 pm
Basil says:

Your good.
Mar 12, 2023 11:47 pm
Oh one other magic item :)

- Lantern Of Revealing
Mar 13, 2023 9:36 am
Dunnhd is quiet because I run events/exercises for the military 3 times a year and I’m in one now so 12-15 hour days .

I’m starting to think I over committed on this. My ability to post does not match the frequency the rest of the group and I’m just slowing things down. Unfortunately these next two weeks for me just get slower.

Genecortess, I apologize to do this so late in the creation stage but I’m going to bow out of your campaign. I appreciate the invite and the welcoming attitude of the group. Good luck on the adventure and have fun.

Mar 13, 2023 8:50 pm
I have sent a new invite for a player so hopefully we will not have much of a delay. I want to get to the killing!
Mar 13, 2023 8:52 pm
GeneCortess says:

I kind of figured anything on the list of "Adventuring Gear" was fair game. :-)
Mar 13, 2023 8:55 pm
Yeah. Not that I liked to give magic before hand and all but as you say and I know its true. "Adventuring Gear". So, I'm going to let that pass. You're so SNEAKY....
Mar 13, 2023 9:14 pm
Hello all, looking forward to joining you. Working my character now-- looking like no one went the arcane casting tree from what I can see, so I am going for a Gnome Wizard named Joran the Giant.

Will have more briefly, just spinning back up on 5th Ed and reading through this thread to catch up.

Average hit points is half the die size, right? so 3.5 for Wizard?

Yippee get the enlarge spell please!
Mar 13, 2023 9:30 pm
Alordis. Since you're catching up. Your first step is to make a level 7 character, but you are to have only the starting gear. Class, Background, & a trinket. Note that encumbrance is active. Especially note it for backpacks. Please note personality characteristics, Age, Height, and Weight. Your history should have your race, class, and background mentioned.

Early applying your character even if incomplete is nice as it gives me a peak at it.

When you have succeed that then we go to next step which everyone else is on, to add 600gp of gear.
Mar 13, 2023 9:39 pm
@GeneCortess I suppose, if I had to pick between the Periapt of Wound Closure or Admantine Axe....In my position as a brawler.... the Periapt is probably the wiser choice... 1st Choice Periapt, 2nd Choice Axe
Mar 13, 2023 9:49 pm
Are we doing the 600gp of mundane gear before we do anything in terms of magical gear, or should both be done at the same time?

Mostly asking because some of the mundane gear I take will depend on what magical gear I do or don't have. I just don't want to waste gold.
Mar 13, 2023 9:53 pm
600 is a lot for mundane gear, unless your getting some hvy armor, Im having a hard time figureing out what to spend mine on... My char doesnt really need much.
Mar 13, 2023 9:59 pm
@Alordis Hps for wiz would be a d6 in 5e Lv 1 max hps, then average would be 4 hps/lv afterwards so 6+24 = 30 + con bonus for a 7th level wiz.
Mar 13, 2023 9:59 pm
MaJunior 600gp will be done before we do magic.
Basil. Then I would suggest taking what is left and investing in gems. Lighter to carry,

Currently waiting for Alordis to say that the starting character done. And waiting to hear that all the players have spent there 600gp and/or have left over. Starting area has limited availability.

Then we do magic. Enjoying my Green Drink. Hic.
Mar 13, 2023 10:01 pm
Roland is done spending.
Mar 13, 2023 11:16 pm
Jeran the Giant is finished in his basic form.

600 gold to spend?

So- do the spells I add (two per level) to my spell book have to be paid for the page count out of that?
Mar 13, 2023 11:44 pm
Welcome aboard Alordis

Nice to have a pure magic character, and Gnome too. (Nice choice)
Mar 14, 2023 12:39 am
600 gp

Weights will be updated on the character sheet, but I think I'm done spending.
Mar 14, 2023 12:50 am
Alordis: Personality Characteristics are missing (2x personality, idea, bond, fault). Explorer pack needs to broken down. Missing a trinket. Artison tools (tinker?) need to be picked. Languages aren't marked. Missing Arcane Recovery.
Mar 14, 2023 2:30 am
Weights are updated, sheet should have everything accounted for now.
Mar 14, 2023 2:53 am
Cool. Nara Remere is going for armor instead of Unarmored Defense. Looks good to me. Gotta love the rapier, dagger and three pouches hanging off him. Guess you don't need rations or tent? Your character has been accepted. Soon we will do magic.
Mar 14, 2023 2:59 am
Okay. Roland Nasmith Looks good. Soon to do magic. Your character is accepted.
Mar 14, 2023 3:01 am
Yeah. Basil. I see 'Adamantine Battleaxe *Pending DM Approval' not happening short of magic time. Let me know when your ready.
Mar 14, 2023 3:03 am
So, Mathfuric. Are you close to killing off that 600gp?
Mar 14, 2023 3:06 am
DM's monsters are lining up. Have to execute a few for line jumping. Party gets no exp. for that.
Mar 14, 2023 3:09 am

Majunior, Goodberry is sweet. Keeps you thin. Yeah. Nothing like good ole bedroll toss on the rocks & roots for sleep as the rain comes in. You hear the song, 'Rain drops keep falling on my head.' Don't worry you will out in the wilds for at least 8 days.
Mar 14, 2023 3:24 am
That's when you use a bigger branch, then stack it with a bunch of branches on each side. Works a bit better with evergreen trees, but solid either way. You also make a bed of ferns, small branches, or certain folliages to keep yourself off the actual ground while your branch canopy keeps you dry.

Lived like that for almost a week IRL. Surprisingly comfy.

Mathfuric You should take a glance at your 30# encumbrance for a backpack and realize the Hunters Trap alone is 25#. Waterskins can be shoulder mounted to save you 5#. Just a thought. A healer kit has 10 uses before it is useless.

Lol I thought # was number of items not lbs. struggling with conversion to your imperial system ;)

Will check it over and rethink it, may drop torches due to produce flame skills.
Mar 14, 2023 1:05 pm
Equipment updated including noting which of the stuff I'm going to have to leave behind due to encumbrance risk, which I'm sure will have to change as I add more gear.

Was there a number of days people were tooling around being away from town at a time for rations sake and such?
Mar 14, 2023 1:53 pm
@GeneCortess Gold and equipment has been updated.
@Alordis No idea how many rations your going to need - I took 4 days. I think a couple of us have Outlander backgrounds so foraging for the party should be easy....Should

Mathfuric Smiles. When you get your charactered updated. Let me know. That way I can see what is what.
Mar 14, 2023 2:55 pm
Alordis Well. Looks like your up to now adding on 600gp of gear. I wouldn't worry about the dropped gear. Time you get your 600gp spent. You should look like a seventh level character. Magic time will be soon.
Mar 14, 2023 3:04 pm
@GeneCortess- first thing I need to know for spending that is if I have to account for the spells added to my spellbook for the 2 per level for scribing costs since that will be a big switch in what I have to use.
Mar 14, 2023 3:08 pm
Basil Yeah you have a regular battleaxe. Smiles. You have Javelin x4, Shield, 100' Silk Rope, Bedroll, Tent & Miners Pick attached to your backpack? Battleaxe & Handaxe x2 are hanging on your side with 3 pouches. No idea where the other two empty pouches go.
Mar 14, 2023 3:09 pm
The two spells per level that you add to your spellbook don't cost time, gold, or ink, as they're specifically tied to the leveling mechanic.

It's only the spells you add "in game," from copying scrolls or other spellbooks, that have a cost.
Mar 14, 2023 3:13 pm
Alordis All your current spells are paid for. You may not purchase scrolls with your 600gp.
Mar 14, 2023 3:19 pm
@GeneCortess- do I need to account for the scribing costs of my 2 per level spells in this?

Follow up question is if I can purchase access to additional spells to scribe into the spellbook at some cost.

I know there's a lot of table variance on those two issues for wizards.
Mar 14, 2023 3:20 pm
yup attached to backpack unless you think thats unrealistic... I was tempted to get a chest (300lb + 12 cubic feet) and say it was strapped to my back!

I figured one pouch hangs around my neck under my shirt, or I could put it somewhere even a determined thief would opt against checking...even on an unconscious Dwarf... and the other 4 pouches on a belt... 2 on each side. But let me know if I need to make an adustments.
Mar 14, 2023 3:25 pm
Party: 3 Male Humans, Male Mountain Dwarf & Male Rock Gnome. All are about the same height and weight. Although the Gnome is on the shorter side. Dwarf does move a touch faster where the Gnome is a touch slow. Of course, Irwin does wildshape. Jeurgen & Joran both have darkvision.

Roland Nasmith. Male Human. Move 30'. Age: 22, Height: 5'8", Weight: 195#, Muscular build - unkempt, shoulder lengthen hair, looks rough for his age.
Jeurgen Hammerhand. Male Mountain Dwarf. Move 35. Age 100, Ht 5’5, Wt 175, Hair Red Eyes, Steel Blue Gray, Darkvision 60'
Nara Remere. Male Human. Move 30'. Age 29, Height: 6' 1", Weight: 175 lbs., Hair: Black, Eyes: Blue
Irwin ‘Doc’ Wade. Male Human. Move 30'. Age: 20, Height: 5’8", Weight: 170lb., Hair: Light blonde, Skin: Pale
Joran. Male Rock Gnome. Move 25'. Age- 45, 4' + a skosh, weight 40 lbs, Blue eyes, blond hair

Note: Joran doesn't have a last name.
Mar 14, 2023 3:29 pm
Basil Me thinks you're a walking backpack with all that stuff arranged on it. I will charge you more than an interaction to remove stuff off the backpack due to the items being packed on it. Otherwise, it is all cool. Your character has been approved.
Mar 14, 2023 3:40 pm
NP... I figured as much - nothing uber imporant in the pack I would need asap anyhow...or so I hope!
Mar 14, 2023 3:55 pm
We are now awaiting Joran & Irwin to finish up their 600gp.

Suggested Magic Items: Adamantine Axe, Periapt of wound closure, +1 Finesse Weapon, +1 Moon Sickle +1, Bracers of Archery, Quiver of Ehlonna, Lantern Of Revealing, Mithril Armor, Sentinel Shield, Javelin of Lightning, Mace +1, Headband of Intellect
Mar 14, 2023 6:42 pm
Gear will be--
[ +- ] Cost
[ +- ] Location & Weight
Mar 15, 2023 1:04 am
Alordis Looks good. I admit that I had to look up what 'bangles' were. Even though you're a Gnome with half encumbrance carry ability. Your no where near the 105# limit. Your character is accepted.

Just waiting on Irwin to say all is good.
Mar 15, 2023 1:13 am
Yeah I just kind of put gold into jewelry of a listed value for a decorative way to store wealth in some places since I can't use armor or weapons or tote much heavy gear.
Mar 15, 2023 1:30 am
Alordis I will have to remember to take them off your dead body (Opsie. Did I type that!)
Mar 15, 2023 7:42 am

Mar 15, 2023 2:59 pm
Mathfuric Cool. Accepted. Lets move on.

Last thing to do before magic. Alordis Do you have any suggestions for uncommon magics to add to the list?

Suggested Magic Items: Adamantine Axe, Periapt of wound closure, +1 Finesse Weapon, +1 Moon Sickle +1, Bracers of Archery, Quiver of Ehlonna, Lantern Of Revealing, Mithril Armor, Sentinel Shield, Javelin of Lightning, Mace +1, Headband of Intellect
Mar 15, 2023 3:13 pm
Party: What people see in armor and weapons. Dangerous bunch.
Roland A man in chainmail & shield with warhammer.
Jeurgen A dwarf in traveler's clothes & shield with battleaxe, handaxe, & 4 javelins
Nara A man in breastplate & shield over traveler's clothes with rapier & dagger
Irwin A man in breastplate over traveler’s clothes with scimitar & longbow
Joran A gnome in traveler's clothes with quarterstaff
Mar 15, 2023 4:57 pm
I know there were a few other magic items suggested that didn't make your list. If they were intentionally left off, so be it -- I just wasn't sure if they'd been seen.
MaJunior says:
Decanter of Endless Water, Goggles of Night, Driftglobe, or maybe Gem of Brightness are probably all worth mentioning too.
Majunior says:
Heward's Handy Haversack
Mar 15, 2023 6:34 pm
Never played a pure martial character - Sooo looking forward to going all beast mode on someone or something!
Mar 15, 2023 7:16 pm
Basil Do have fun with it.

MaJunior when you mentioned one that wasn't uncommon (Heward's Handy Haversack), I dropped all of it. Edited and add the ones that were right now.

Suggested Magic Items: Adamantine Axe, Periapt of wound closure, +1 Finesse Weapon, +1 Moon Sickle +1, Bracers of Archery, Quiver of Ehlonna, Lantern Of Revealing, Mithril Armor, Sentinel Shield, Javelin of Lightning, Mace +1, Headband of Intellect, Goggles of the Night, Driftglobe, Gem of Brightness, Decanter of Endless Water, Bag of Holding, Wand of the War Mage (+1 is uncommon), Wand of Magic Missiles
Mar 15, 2023 7:36 pm
Checking the items list now.

Bag of Holding
Wand of the War Mage (+1 is uncommon)
Wand of Magic Missiles

Those three look tasty.

I thought Heward's was uncommon and Bag of Holding (which is on the list) was rare? Did I get them backwards?

That'll teach me to trust my memory. Lol

Party Magics: On my final thoughts, I gave uncommon but also only considered Wonderous Items. Due to that I gave two items instead of one.

Roland Boots of Elvenkind, Keoghtom's Ointment
Jeurgen Periapt of Health, Rope of Climbing
Nara Elemental Gem (Red Corundum), Mask of the Beast
Irwin Quiver of Ehlonna, Cloak of the Manta Ray
Joran Pipes of Haunting, Eyes of Minute Seeing
