As I think I mentioned din the recruitment thread, this is a huge mega campaign with everything Icewind Dale (post second sundering for those lore savyy).
This mostly includes adapting the Legacy of the Crystal Shard, The Frostmaiden Rime and the Adventure League campaigns.

We are testing a narrative rules-light system that you can find under Home brew system. Basically, you just have to roll 2d6, but the way success is determined is a bit unorthodox.

The previous scenes are kept in the Archives, though I should be working on updating the Story so far xD

Let me know if you have any type of character in mind. There are a number of suggested character secrets for the Frostmaiden Rime campaign which we are using so we can check if anything fits :D

Fizel Axebreaker, a greedy and not very empathic dwarf, was the character that was dropped so let me know if any of you are interested in such a character (his secrets make him very flexible though...)

Hello, happy to be here! I know a decent amount about the Forgotten Realms setting from earlier editions, but haven't kept up with everything post the Sundering in 4E. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story goes.

So, we have a dwarf and an orc? I may make either an elf or halfling. It will likely me take me a few days to come up with a concept.

I have some suggestions on the character sheet instructions but feel free to suggest other concepts. As it was mentioned somewhere (I think the recruitment thread) this system should be able to accommodate even the most exotic D&D character 😁

So after reading the winter is coming story so far I think my basic concept is going to be a mama bear type that is the sweetest and takes care of everyone, but when crap hits the fan and you see her act you know she has some secrets in her past. Sound like a fitting concept?

Well... that's a bit out of date... I'll get to it soon. Basically, for scene 1 everyone met in the streets of Luskan and, for one reason or another, enlisted with the Luskar Deliverers (post office) to get on the ship north. Rumour is this is the last delivery as winter is early this year. They had to fetch a few packages from famous 5e characters as the Deliverers were understaffed. The scene 2 was the traveling at sea where they found an unregistered ship and decided to check it. The only thing they found was strange sea creatures and a hag that fixated on Agna the orc. The whole thing went to hell the bottom of the ocean when a giant octopus returned to finish what it had started. We will start scene 3 landing in Fireshear where Agna is going to meet a dwarven caravan to take them to Icewind Dale... she hopes 😈

You can have been already part of the ship crew as bodyguards, sailors, merchants, the elven cook, the captain, etc. or you can be in or around Fireshear already.
I bet Agna will love meeting her xD

Ok those sound cool :D The one think we sort of need is to get some character secrets sorted out.
This is part of the flavour for the Rime of the Frost Maiden campaign for the PC backgrounds which I'm using for the entire mega adventure :D

I tried 3 secrets per character before (some can be tied together) but that was mostly to make it more likely that they would come up at some point.

Well, you know what they say. Every good story needs a healthy dose of conflict...

I can only imagine Agna being stuck with the captain for the rest of the story. Lol

@RAAMtentacles,@testlum it probably won’t come to this but since I tried to give away almost all the secrets, would it be ok if we sort of review some details of the backgrounds so the new players have a bit more freedom of choice? This will only be minor details like modifying some NPC that my tie things up in different ways…

Hi All, thanks for the invite.

Looking through the rules, story so far etc. I think I would like to make an Elven scholar (possibly having bought passage on the Icebreaker to study/investigate this early winter). She's friendly and helpful enough - but the cold does not agree with her and nor she the cold.

If this sounds okay - I can start to flesh it out and put together a character sheet.

Pretty much the same thing that happens between Agna and anyone who disagrees with her. They're obviously crazy lol. Captain Harkin has just repeatedly doubled down on her insanity.

Sure, what do you have in mind? Are we going to "pass on" some secrets for the others to use?

Not exactly pass on secrets, but since they were adapted to the characters, maybe it's possible to "share" the other parts of the secrets that weren't used. I'll review the character creation thread to check if there are any clashes, but it should be ok. asking just in case :D

For spells the suggesting is to think about a D&D spell base effect, instead of the details. For example, Hallucinatory Terrain is fundamentally an illusion. This effect (create an illusion) would be your base spell and then you can use it narrative as you wish. The catch is that affecting more targets make it more difficult to cast, so a fire thread is simple but a fireball will have a high penalty.
You're not limited to 5 items, we can just modify the sheet as needed to add more slots. There's a post in the session 0 where some of these questions were mentioned I think.

You don't need much detail for the inventory as if it makes sense for you to have it you can claim to have it. I'm not sure RPing shopping is much use in PbP when it is just about buying stuff, so you can always say you bought it during your preparations and roll wealth to check if you got it or not. No need to worry about having items for every possible situation, though this can be interesting roleplay sometimes :D

Honestly, I checked Agna's inventory two, three times max during the first two chapters.

ahah yes, I'm a bit late on that xD as far as I can tell, all backgrounds look ok so we can roll with that. I'm working out the details and will write them all at the same time today or tomorrow all things going well :D

I looked the the character sheets that were submitted and will check them properly tomorrow, but I noticed Alora Bellflower (finally answering your question @Dmbrainiac xD) is missing magic/abilities. These are sort of a way you can boost your skills or do something slightly different, further customize your character. For example, for a spy, you could reflavour pass without trace as a mundane ability tie to the stealth skill, if you don't want magic. Instead of magically hiding all traces, you're just a "super ninja" and actually leave no traces.

Talking about reflavoring things, @RAAMtentacles,@testlum feel free to take the opportunity to update anything in your character you thing is not working as intended now that you have a bit of experience with the system :D

ah right, there's a "little" naming issue there where you have abilities twice 😅 The idea is that every character can have a little bit of magic (unlike D&D). If you want a full non-caster, you can think of "magic" as special moves that can affect multiple targets (not strictly necessary) and "abilities" as more of demanding advanced skill (there's an offset like pushing or fatigue). This is all very flexible but, taking the example of a barbarian:

* you could think that Reckless Attack is an ability since you push yourself further to get a bonus. It could work like "you can raise your roll to add +1 to your melee skill, but you will suffer a wound if you fail both rolls."

* On the other hand, extra attack could fit "magic" and be reflavored as supernatural speed: "You can strike faster allowing you to attack multiple times, each additional attack giving you a -1 penalty".

@RAAMtentacles,@testlum I updated the sheets now. Fell free to modify the magic/abilities change.

ok I think that's all the sheets updated to the latest format :D All looks ok, it's just finalizing the details like magic, avatars and items I think.

I also added private subforums which you can use to take notes and write down your thoughts for later if you want. PbP is particularly slow so its inevitable things will be forgotten :D You should only be able to see you forum but for that one you should have the rights to make and delete any thread there

Little background on Momma in case anyone wants to know. She has lived in Tentown most of her life, works as a fishermen and hunter to sell fish and furs. Eventually she was able to open up a little stand and sales these items. She is a motherly figure who takes care of everyone, although has never had kids as far as anyone knows. When you see her she is about as average as you can get, with some natural beauty from the love and care you see on her face. She carries a modified spear with a hook to the fish can't get off once stabbed. She has a way with her words and attitude that most people cannot resist talking to her about anything and everything *wink* foreshadowing

I can see easily see Alora showing up at a later point in Fireshear (perhaps she is by the pub's window checking the newcomers or actually investigation the elemental troubles on her own? ) so no pressure there :D
