Tripple F (Finch Flies Far)

Aug 28, 2023 12:46 pm
The sun is low on the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow over the sprawling Ruins of Eldergrove, the air is filled with the gentle rustle of leaves and the distant hum of unseen creatures. At the edge of this ancient city, now reclaimed by nature, Finch stands gazing over the city, once vibrant and alive with the laughter. Now lies forgotten and overgrown with plant and beast alike. Vines drape gracefully over time-worn buildings, and moss blankets the cobblestone streets. It's a place where time itself seems to have paused, preserving the beauty of the past.

In the distance, a soft, ethereal glow emanates from a towering tree, its roots coiled around an intricately carved archway. This, Finch knows, is the entrance to the Heartwood Chamber, the sanctuary where the Heartwood Crystal is rumored to rest. Standing there Finch feels a profound connection to the natural world around him. He can sense the presence of awakened plant guardians hidden within the ruins, watching and waiting. They are ancient protectors, bound to defend their city against intruders.

Finch takes a deep breath, his keen senses picking up the subtle scents of blooming flowers and damp earth. He knows that many have sought to reach the Heartwood Crystal and unlock its power. Few have discovered, and fewer still lived to return and warn other of the treacherous labyrinth of the Eldergrove ruins, the awakened guardians, and mysteries of this forgotten city.

With wings tucked tightly against his back, Finch Ponders contemplates his next move. To proceed forwards alone or search out other wiing to join him on the journey that will uncover the secrets of the past and determine the future of Eldergrove. Legends say that Eldergrove is a satellite city to the great city of Paphos which he has heard is being explored by many adventurers. Perhaps he might find others there willing to assist in delve into Eldergrove if he can find a few trinkets at the edge of this once great city to prove to and gain the interest of some fellow adventurous souls.

Welcome @Denzarki to finches story

Finch is a fairly skilled hunter and he knows not to rush in head first to any new territory. He does not know of the local wildlife in the area, prey or predator and he's even more uneasy at the sense of the guardians, he can somehow feel them even though he can't see them, is this ancient blood? Can other races feel this? Either way, he's determined to find something to intrigue local adventurers, he should expect resistance in the sanctuary and he's not confident in his ability to fight alone, he's skilled at taking prey out in one shot, he's not quite sure what to do if that one shot is not enough in a stronger more aggressive being.

Finch falls dead silent and attunes to his Echoing Earrings.
OOC:
Finch wants to listen to see if he can hear any creatures out of sight near the entrance to the sanctuary.

Go already and roll a test, 2d6, with Focus as your are taking your time, so any roll 4 or higher is a success
OOC:
Just as a note for clarification, beginning magic items confer no game mechanic advantage. However I is a clever idea so I am saying it works as follows : Some sounds are amplified and repeated, similar to being in a cathedral, cavern, or canyon. Some sounds are more easily heard but locating the source can be problematic. How about that?

OOC:
that sounds great thanks, sorry i didn't realise with it being my first game so i tried to fit it into my character origin 😁
Finch breathes slowly and looks towards the entrance.

Rolls

Finch: Test DC: 4 - Basic - (2d6)

(66) = 12

OOC:
No worries. It is something i gave to the plyers for the fun of it. I limit it from any mechanica benefits but many have found ways to make their items usefule or just add flair to the character

Any time you are trying something with a chance of failure or varried success you can go ahead and roll and I can expand on the results based on the roll.
Finch listens with and without the earling, ans the echos can sometimes give mixed results. This time he gets a clear sound from the earing, It sounds much like a snake slithering over stone but it comes from everywhere. A soft and slow sound. Never fast but never stoping. There is the ocasional sound of birdcall or the flash of a squirl so Finch knows that there are animals around be he notes that the creatures seemm to say at the edge of Eldergrove.

Living vines? Finch is thinking. Either way he thinks he knows now, what direction they are and what direction they aren't.

(I saw on the qa this is how i should tell you what my character is thinking is that right? )
Finch jumps off the branch where he′d been perched and silently glided down to a branch just above the branched archway into the sanctuary. There might be no coming back once he passed the threshold but he knew he needed to find something that might entice more people to adventure with him, more people to unravel the mystery of the sanctuary.

Satisfied that the sounds he heard were in the opposite direction Finch dropped down off his perch and cautiously peered through the archway into the sanctuarys entrance
OOC:
surely i dont have to go too far in alone to find something worth showing off to would be adventurers, he is thinking

Finch flies deeper into the crumbling city towards the center and the glow. As he nears the glow anominous silence permeates the air and soon he can not hear the creatures of the forrest or even the rutle of leaves. Soon reaching the archway he lands in front of it and conciders There may be something in the city to interest others without having to delve into the Heartwood itself.

The room beeyond the archway is expansive and has several tunnels leading down and away.

For a moment Finch considers going in, the excitement of the idea was almost enough to draw him in, almost as if something inside was beckoning him in.. alas he was able to snap out of it.

Don't be silly Finch, you're a hunter not an adventurer he muttered to himself. He needed help if he was to uncover this mystery.
OOC:
Finch would like to find adventurers to help him uncover the mysteries of this place, does he know where to find them?

Finch know there are tribes around to the north and west. However he also heard tales of travelers crossing the wilds heading east and had crossd a road not too long before finding Eldergrove. Those who delt with outsiders in his tribe had talked of an ancient city to the east and south that was being explored by adventurers. This is where the caravans were heading. It has stared small but was now a regular occurance and was partially the reason Finch had choosen to head this way when setting out beyond his normal hunting grouonds. The kingdoms to the east he was vaguely familiar with but to the east lay the Nations and freeholds. Pondering a moment he maps the land he knows and places the road on it in his mind. Yess he should be able to find the road and trace it to the city Paphos.

As he aranges things in his mind a small noise is caught by his earring and echos louder and louder from barely a noise at all to the most telling ofquiet sounds. Something is trying to move quetly above him in the tree.

Roll initiative, 2d6. If your total is higher than the one I roll (4) you may act first.

(61) = 7

He pounds his wings as hard as he can once to jump backwards and place distance from where he was standing, so he can get a better look at what was making the noise

Jumping back you barely manage to avoid the poune of a most interesting creature. All in shades of green and brown the creature resembles a vine trying hard to look like a snake, or a snake attempting to camoflage itself like a vine

The creature is very long with the body winding up the tree and out of sight. It pulls back before striking the grouns and rears it head above you..
[ +- ] Combat
Your turn. You have 2 actions. Minor activity and movement is free but if you wish to move outside the creatures attack zone you will need to use a movement actioon.Ranged weapons take 1 action to load and another to fire. We can assume you have good reflexes and are cautious so always start combat with an arrow knocked and ready to shoot (unless surprised) Let me knos if you have any questions

Finch, not wanting to be in melee range of this thing when it attacks takes another beat of his wings backwards but this time hangs in the air whilst aiming and loosing his bow at the serpents head
OOC:
He wants to go for the heart but who knows where the heart is on this thing, or if it even has one.

1 action to move
1 action to fire

The arrow strikes the serpentine plant which pulls back hissing at Finch. The creatures stretches out it's seemingly endless body from the branches high above to strike at Finch. The creature manages to sink its teeth into Finch's thigh as he tries to dodge out of it way.
OOC:
