If that doesn't work, Barley will turn to his side and push the pattern.
Finally if all else fails, Barley will flick his finger creating a little flame and hold it up to the center gem. Hoping to refract the light into all the other gems on the wall. Perhaps, if he can refract the light into all of the gems, the door will unlatch.

However, that's not what you asked.
Why the pipes? We are not the only creatures that sing, nor are we the only creatures that have a tale to tell. The pipes could recreate the grand traditions of the sky with their bird song.
How does one recount those tales if one does not have an tool on which to translate them?"
He sits down beside the Elven bard. Malachi appears at his side and starts to weave around both their feet. Periodically rubbing his head on their legs.

She leads you down a short hall to a private bedchamber where you rest well for the night. In the morning you have another chat before she sends you out to find a great tale in need of a witness and helping hand. The cavern tunnel ascends to what looks like a sewer. The first grate you pass lets you overhear several people chatting about the conditions of the town and the hardship they must suffer due to their new lord. One voice seems oddly out of place. The voice is male and sounds younge though much more refined than the others he talks with. You pause to listen but soon the discussion is disrupted by the arrival of a patrol and to speakers all scatter. You soon find a way up from the sewers and use a nearby pump to clean you unfortunate boots a bit. Luckily the passage was spacious enough that they were the only thing to truly suffer the indignities of you subterranean path.
"This mud is terrible", growls one of the men.
"At least it stop raining.",says the other.
"Aye. Thanks to our good lord, we didn't have to be out in it.", says the third as Barley begins to move away from the grate.
A short distance later, he sees light coming from a rusty gate door. Barley pushes it open and steps through…
Brilliant sunlight makes him squint and he raises his hand to block it. When his eyes adjust he finds himself in a shallow ditch. A stream of putrid water flows down its center, lapping lazily against filthy brickwork. To his left, a dodgy ladder leads to the street above.
Cautiously, he climbs the ladder and finds himself on a cobblestone street.
"Cobblestone? Interesting.", thinks Barley,"Too bad the buildings are in such disrepair."
The street runs North to South and is lined with once grand buildings. However, the stone work is.crumbled either due to neglect or age. In front of him is a narrow alley, and he takes it, being careful not to touch the soot stained walls.
Soon, he hears voices ahead, one of them doesn't match the other. It.is young and has a noble voice.
Barley listens closely to the conversation…
I'm going to roll to.see if the guards notice and follow me for whatever reason, because that might be fun, and I'm going to roll to listen in unnoticed. Try to figure out if the young noble is altruistic or not.

Location: A patio outside a bustling tavern in a small city.
Characters:
Commoner 1 (C1): A weary, middle-aged man with a mug of ale.
Commoner 2 (C2): A woman in her thirties tired from a day's work.
Commoner 3 (C3): A young man with a defiant tone, a bit rough around the edges.
Noble Youth (NY): A sympathetic young noble with a reputation for wanting to help the common folk.
Conversation:
C1: (speaking in hushed tones) Have you heard 'bout that young noble, Lord Alaric?
C2: (nodding) Aye, heard he's been tryin' to make changes in the city. Wants to cleanse the city of the dark priest , they say.
C3: (scoffs) Don't believe it for a second. Nobles like him, they don't care 'bout the likes of us.
NY: (approaching their table, kindly) Good evening, my friends. I couldn't help but overhear your conversation. I assure you, I'm genuinely concerned about the troubles plaguing our city.
C1: (cautiously) Well, I heard Alaric's been speakin' up against the tax hikes at court and some of the darker practices taken up by the Dark Temples.
C2: (raising an eyebrow) That's a strange move for a noble. What's his aim?
LA: (smiling) I cant say for sure but I am familiar with his son. He seem concerned about the suffering in our city, and wants to make a difference. But he can't do it alone. Alaric need our trust and support.
C3: (grinning) Maybe he's finally seen the light and wants to make amends for all the gold they've taken from us!
C1: (shaking his head) I wouldn't trust him too quickly. Nobles have a way of changin' their tune when it suits 'em.
Barley spits on the ground and gives an easy smile. "Looking for work, the kind that needs a hard man. You wouldn't happen to know anyone hiring? Maybe those priests?"
He looks at the noble youth and thinks, "Ok son, I'd like to help you if I can. If you give me permission, we can talk like this."
"Who's this one here, all done up in his finest?" he says with a snear.

One of the older men sneers at your comment. Work for the dark priest at your risk. Many people who go looking for trouble find it elf.
Another growls at you Honest men don't tollerate your kind for long and vagrancy is aginst the law. Off with you before we call the watch.
The simplehonest radesmen don't seem to appreciate this brash elven ruffian swagering into their midsts. The youth gives you an odd look but keeps his head. Those who need to know my name do. You do not. I suggest you find work or lodgings before dark lest you be mistaken for trouble and taken to the mines. You sence caution and vigilance as he looks you over then casually lookig around. You gain a vague sence of the youths mind, discipline and reason with a dash of passion burining under it all but under contrl, but no comunication is forthcoming.
The street is simple and clean and if not for the overheard conversation you would think this a happy and prosperous town. The patio the men sit at ajoins a tavern that serves a simple stew and ale lunch. Cups and bowls are scattered around the men but none is near the youth. Across the way are smal merchant shops and down the street you can see a wharehouse with wide doors and a brisk trafic of men goind in and out laden with various goods.
You succeed in your tough guy rutine but none of these men seem to appreciate it or want to talk with a stranger seeking after dark priests.
Then to himself,"Well, I didn't handle that well"
Barley stops in front of the warehouse amd watches the men for a minute.
"Good day, what are you hauling? Is the Fore man around? Looking for work myself."
Making your way into the dim interior and find the foreman shouting, not that anyone seems to be listening, at the wor crews moving freigh on and off wagons that sit out in the street. The foreman is a broad framed man, one of the largest in the warehouse you guess, but with an eaually expansive gut. Totally ignoring you he continues ordering the aparent chaos while ocasionaly lookig as a stack of papers in his hand that he make marks on from time to time.
Barley nods his head towards the covenants papers. "Not opposed to a little book keeping or manual labor."
Heading out back you find a large open are with several wagons and more men. These look more ragged and based on the smell of the yard andcontents they are handling you may want to set aside yor cloths of burn them when you are done. Several men are working animal pens to one side next to what you assume to be a slaughter house as animals go in and men haul carcases out. Another section has buld materials, lumber, clay, straw, thatch, jars of tar, etc. and the last section has several wagons that are full of rough rock and coal. A large smelting shop takes up that side of the yard.
You easily locate Tom from the mutters of passing men and he turns out to be the nastiest looking man not working. Not the largest but definitely the one with the most scars. Walking up while dodging trafic you tell him you were sent to get work from him. The man grunt Slaughterhouse.
New guy get to muck it out without even looking at you. Having helped dress animals hunted for food in the woods by the elves you look around and suspect the job to be the lowest nastiest one around. At the rate they are slaughering, skinning, and quatering the beast you assume they ammas quite a bit of materials and not all of it can be pocessed to sausage.
Walking over your fears are confirmed.
Tell me the plan add a few situational interactions with rolls and we can get to the meat of the story :)
Here's what I was hoping to do. I want to gain as much information as possible about the underbelly of this town from the warehouse workers.
1. Who really controls this city. Is it the nobles, criminals, or dark priests? Are they in cahoots? I figure the rougher the person I ask, the more honest the answer, well honest to a point.
2. I would like to know more about the mines. Is there a way out of them in case I have severely bad luck? Someone in this terrible warehouse has to have done time, right?
3. Does anyone have ties to a criminal organization that I can leverage to gain access to the dark priests or whoever really controls their organization?
I'd be willing to bargain - I have 1 gold piece, and 97 copper after our initial trip to the shop when we gained new traits. I'd be willing to part with 20 copper.
After that happens, I want to return to the tavern and post up in the bar. Hopefully the young noble shows up.
I'll decide on further actions after I talk to the noble or not, OR I have an in with the dark priests. Either way, I need more information before I go storming the castle (or church).

Amid the foul working conditions and loss of apatite, vegitarianism is sounding good now, you learn a few thing as "the new guy" ask about his new/future home.
Baron Toridel rules this city and as far as the eye can see. After the shatering the dark temples rose in prominance as they added the Barons father fight of the mosters left by the war. They also seem to have stronger spells and magic than the few priest of the light. Though the dark priest never do anything outright against the people or the Barony their preaching makes many nervous.
Escaping from the mines does not seem that hard. The trouble is staying free. With the Baron in control of the entire county ther is no place to hide. Or shouldn't be Tales have circulated with a few to many details about the mines for any to not believe a few have found friends and refuge. Not that any of the workers know anything about how that might be.
Any time the dark priests are brought up everyone denys knowing any but they all know some one who knows some one.
After a long days work, for 5 copperr, you have a cold dunk under a spout from a rain barrel. Weary you make your way back to the tavern you were at before but are turned away and sent to a reputable bath house. As you enter the steam and faint smells of lavender instanly parts you with all 5 of your new coin for a bath, your cloths washed, and a meal. The mens bath is full of steam and you rince again, at an attendants instanace and he hands you some harsh soap, before slipping into the large tiled bath. As you setle back and glance around you spot the noble youth slide into the bath several yards away. Though acting casual you can tell he is a bit nervous and his one guarded glance at you informs you he is curious but warry.
I know this isn't the same kind of bathhouse, but have you ever seen Maverick? There's a scene where the main characters are taking a bath, smoking cigars and drinking.
I'd like to think maybe these are roman style baths and Barley or whoever can get that kind of service? You did say meal :)
I don't know how many people are in these baths, but I'm going to order everyone drinks. I'm hoping it's not like too many people. I'm trying to put everyone at ease and show the noble that Barley isn't the ruffian that he pretended to be and does in fact have money (well sort of)
He then turns to the room and exclaims, "Lovely day today, isn't? A DRINK ON ME!", and sinks further down into his bath, closing his eyes.
Thinking, he reaches out to the noble,"Ready to talk about your Dark Priest problem? We can talk like this, if you give me permission, but I'd rather discuss business over a good meal."
After that the the lad get to work cleaning himself for a bit before availing himself of a masseuse in a side stall. About 20 minutes after your little drink shenanigans the youth leaves and his "guard" leaves the baths to dress. You move to follow the instructions, though unsure about these arrangements. Following the man proves easy and after several minutes he takes a turn down a smaller more dimly lit street. Taking the cue you move in for the "attack" only to find the man is just as adept at barehanded fighting as your are. A silent exchange of pointer passes before the man suddenly suges with a power unknown to you. A pale nimbus suffuses his skin and his movements double, as does his strength, and you are left gasping for air as he removes his hand from your abdomen. Breath slow, well faught he murmurs to your bent over form before a blow to the back of your head turns the world black.
A dim light and relaxing waves of energy wake you to the touch of the old man. There, good as new. he says taking his hand away. The young lord will see you in a minute. But before that . .
Out of the shadows behind the old warrior steps a truly ancient woman. Raising a staff with a large crystal set into its top she murmurs a few words and you feel a pressure in your head. You feel fingers in inquiry slide into your mind searching for truth and memory.
Do you resist? Set up your reaction up to this point and attitude going forward when you meet the young lord
A sudden flash of light fills his vision and everything goes dark as the warrior's blow crashes down upon his head.
What feels like only a moment later, he wakes staring up at the old man. "How long was I out?", he thinks followed by, "What have I gotten myself into too?"
The old man speaks and Barley barely has time to register the old man's words before he feels something prying at his mind.
In a knee jerk reaction, Barley panics and attempts to resist. This lasts only a moment. Once he sees the ancient woman, he relaxes. She has to be a mind breaker, a truly powerful psychic or mage. The young noble must be a lord to employ such powerful companions.
"You need not apply force old mother, I will not resist. I understand the caution, but I would have opened up willing if you have but asked."
Barley feels it is better to take caution when approaching the noble in future conversation, and is taking a gamble he is not actually in the priests employ. The noble appears to be more than he seems...
How much money for the drinks?
Jason Rose
The man glances at you, fingering a small amulet about his own neck, before nodding thanks to the lady who moves back and leaves by a door. You follow with the man who guides you to a small room nearby before leaving, locking you inside, for a moment to inform the lord you are ready to talk. After a couple of minutes in the small but comfortable room, which has a small table and several chars, you hear the door unlock. The old warrior returns with the youth and an older man that must be he father as well.

My name is Jason Rose. Who are you and what do you wish to discuss? The man contains the comfortable assurance of one used to command, a keen eye, and the easy grace of someone who is familiar with combat. He is calmer than his son and studies you casually as he awaits your reply.
Jason Rose

The man looks you over thinking for a moment. Though the the temples openly admit to serving dark powers their strength can not be denied and the Shattering scared the people so bad that sacrificing a few malcontents to save the rest seemed a good deal at the time. Many still view them as the saviors of the city. By time the new generation arose, who don't realy know what was paid and what was saved, the temples had become too strong to to easily remove. They are careful to not cause enough trouble to stir up the masses into open revolt. So while people grumble their power continues to grow.
What we need is to know what the temples are doing and have proof that will force the other nobles to act. Many work with or are fervent members of the temples but most of them believe in wealth and prestige more than gods. If we can prove that the dark temples are harming the people or planning something truly sinister the will of the people will force them to act. And we will need their strength to overthrow the temples power in the area.
My boy said you are a stranger and were stirring up trouble. Elprekt also tells me you are a mind mage. The biggest obstacle with the temples is their secrecy. If you want to help I can arrange things while you act independently. If you can find where and when something diabolical is going to happen my boy can arrange it so that Alaric will witness it. So that means you will need to infiltrate the temples or their people somehow. I have information but am too well known to have my people act effectively in this regard. Elprekt has said that she can craft a masking charm to paint on you that should, with the aid of your own magic, allow you to hide any hostile intent against the temples. That should get you past any divining they can do in a short time. Beyond that it will be up to your wits and words.
Tell me what you need and I can help, to a point, before my people dump you back in the streets.
If so, release me onto the street and spread a rumor that your man was injured by my parculiar talents and is on bed rest. That, along with my brash antics from earlier today should help cement my reputation as dangerous.
I could use that reputation to get the attention of the priests. Possibly I could use that to get an invite to their temple.
If that is not enough or seems foolish, is there a corrupt merchant in town that deals business with the priests?
If we had a bauble or some arcana they would be interested in, I could use that along with the reputation I have garnished to broker a meeting.
Once inside, I will ask to join their priesthood and will use that as a cover to investigate their mechanations.
As far as Alaric witnessing them, we need to find a secure area that we can sneak him into. Without knowing the exact nature of their crimes, it will be hard to know where to lay the trap."
Jason Rose

After we return you to the street "properly chastised" for attempting to attack my man we can arrange a situation that will put one of my more vocal supported into conflict with the priests. We can arrange for it to escalate to near violence at which point you swoop in to save the priest. The priest Akannathi is known to be arrogant beyond his abilities due to his relations. It will be easy to arrange for him to be alone and you can save him.
Then after helping rescuing him reveal you only sought out a priest as you have information you wish to sell the temple. You can not seem too eager to join them but they will trust greed.
The key will be that you will need to create the intense desire that you wish to profit from the temple. Only if you truly feel this will you be able to fool their spells. The will think it is greed when in fact it will be your wish for their downfall to promote your own interest. If you keep your thought focused on gaining from the temple, no details, and not about the city it should work.
Once inside you can arrange the sale of a book we found. We found it while trying to prevent the priest from obtaining it themselves only to learn it is a forgery. We have prepared an altered copy of the fogery, just in case. It should be close enough to what they seek that they will not be able to determine it is not what they are truly after for some time. And it is close enough that your sale of it will appear to be in earnest.
While in the temple if you can read the memories of some of the priest, place a few charms that we can help you conceal till they are placed, or find any flaws in their organization or security then this should be enough of a boon to us.
What say you?
The only issue is reading memories without permission. In that, I am not skilled. Also, It hurts the person when you try to force memories out if them. Your mind mage can attest to that.
Emotions and feelings are easy and the recipient need not be aware.
Do you something I can borrow that can temporarily boost my power? If not, don't worry. I have other ways to gain information. Malachi!", says Barley and a little black cat appears on the floor next to him and starts grooming itself.
"Malachi, my spirit friend.", he says to Rose.
Then he turns to Malachi saying, "Go ahead friend."
Malachi fades away to almost nothing and purs.
Also, Malachi is totally in predator mode at the moment.
Jason Rose

You work out a few other details and are dragged limp and bruised from a "beating" to a dark ally. Luckily the beating was mostly for show. A simple potion allowed you to bruise and bleed rather easily so only a few light taps and slaps were enough for the disguise. Unfortunately though the potions affects were short the resulting bruises and cuts still hurt.
As arranges you "wake" after being dumped back on the street and find a room for the night to recover. In the morning you eat, clean up and wander ther city, getting familiar with it and loitering at key points to be seen spying on the temples and their people. At the arranged time in the evening you make your way to a particular restaurant where Akannathi is known to frequent. Just as planned he is baited then dragged into a nearby alley and beset upon by a couple or lord Rose's men out of uniform. Making you way quickly you catch sight of the two of them dragging the priest into an adjoining alley while getting in a few more kicks and punches. These men do not seem to be acting or if they are they are not holding back.
The main alley is a tiny lane between a coule buildings but the guards just went around the corner into what looks to be a much smaller and secluded track.
Barley closes his eyes focusing on the task at hand.
His opens his eyes and with determine mind he enters the tinier alley way.

Barley fixes the lead guard with a focused stare.
Akannathi

Though slow, due to injured ribs and a limp, you begin making your wat to the temple with the priest who introduces himself as Akannathi. The priest seems nice enough at first but the longer you chat the more you realize he just does not see any but himself and his friends as more than beast, tools, or things to kill. Often these seem to overlap as any minor inconvenience to him or the temple is worthy of slaying the perpetrator of the obvious crime. You lean his grandfather is a high priest of Baal and his uncle is the chief inqitor. Akannathi himself has no role but feels duty bound to ensure his uncle learns of any minor misconduct an his grandfathers will is interpreted by Akannathi for all other who clearly are stupid and must be commanded in all things.

Akannathi quickly recounts the entire thing, telling no lies though his words put him in a better light than other might have. Durring the entire description the inquisitor stares at you coldly. After the story is recounted Akannathi mentions you offer of a possible business deal.
As the younger priest finishes talking Bjornhild addresses you I thank you in the name of our god and his high priest for assisting us in this. How is it that you happened to be so conveniently placed as to see this unfold and why is it you choose to intervene?
Give me a test on you ability to act cool under the scrutiny and to tell your story convincingly. You can roll with focus as you have planned this in advance.
"Well, it wasn't for altruism or whatever rewards he offers, which I expect to be paid. It was for an audience with the temple. As, I discussed briefly with Akannathi, I have something you want and a business proposition."
He focuses on his hands holding a greasy tome. Candlelight dancing on it's foul cover. He reaches out creating a minor telepathic suggestion for all keen enough to see it. Not an invasive suggestion, just an image for any that might try to snoop.

He thinks to Malachi, Wait until they have a small lead and then follow as far as you can and listen in. Hopefully they allow me to wonder. If not and they go out of your range, find a good spot close at the end of it and gather what information you can from the other priests.
Malachi unfortunately it's unable to follow the book but does find a few nooks and crannies so ends up placing the talismans into better hiding spots than you are able to under the attentive gaze of the novice. You and Malachi make a game if it. You draw attention to yourself and Malachi moves around the rooms quickly and quietly.
After several minutes you are brought to another room where Bjornhild and the book await. You examine the book, verifying it is the one you lent them, and negotiations over the book price begin. Luckily Lord Rose gave you a price range to with with. Partially based on what it took to get the original and partially based on what the temple could afford.
As soon as he leaves the temple, Barley makes for the alleys, taking a long and winding route back towards the tavern, trying to confuse anyone who would tail him.

After getting some distance Barley begins to try and dodge any trailing sneaks. Though none was seen he feels sure the temple, Bjornhild to be specific, likely sent one or more. After some time apasserby bumps you as you both round a corner and between a curse and appology you catch a suggestion that the Rose suggests a specific tavern. You make your way toward the place, you had seen it in your earlier city wandering, an dtake a table in one of the dark corners.
Several minuts pass and a few patrons enter and leave then a figure joins you. As the figure approatches a few other get up to leave. As they pass a table there is a brief scuffle before it former occupant dissapears into the midst of the three leaving but none of the other patrons react and in a hearbeat the four are gone.

"The inquisitor was suspicious, but took the bate. It was easier than I thought, maybe a little too easy.", he says to Rose.
Jason Rose

You chat for a bit and retire to a room for the night. Over the next several days you maintain contact and learn that the temple is acting on what they gained form the book. It turns out that the book you sold the temple has a part of a summoning ritual. Specifically it contained key information needed to contact another plane so that the summons would be able to call on a specific entity. What they did was to replace key pieces of the information with bits that were handed down in the wizards line that serves the Rose family.
If they try and contact the plane they will reach a known entity who owes the wizard a favor. They have agreed to impersonate the entity the temple is seeking. But should the temple actually try to summon them then what they will get instead will be what the wizard calls a "Dream Smith"
He explains that the wizards line has been studying dreams and the power of the mind and soul. The Dream Smith is powerful enough to fool everyone in the temple and will play along with the temple until it has learned what they are trying to do. The Dream Smith has relayed the temples plans and Rose has ensured that key bit of this have been leaked to House Alaric. They should be acting on the information tonight.
Would you care to accompany us to view the fruits of your labors?
Barley hears a mental chirrup and Malachi takes form looking for all the world like he's caught the biggest canary.
Barley nods to his spirit friend. He turns to Rose, "I think he's in. Lead the way, Jason."

Down in the valley bellow torches have been seen moving around but the begin clustering just before midnight and much larger firs are lit. At the old crone says something to Lord Rose and he begins issuing command that set the allied forces moving on the valley.
So give me a rough plan on what you intend to do should combat or parley break out
If the parties parlay, Barley will stay quiet and follow Roses lead. If some pressure needs put on, he'd probably use a small display of psychic power, like a force choke or an illusion targeted at one of the weaker acolytes.
Should the talk turn into a fight, Barley will take the inquisitor out with psychic blasts and then concentrate on crowd control as Rose does what he needs to do.
Should combat ensue before they get to the head priest, Barley would be part of the team going for the old man. First, he would use his telekinetic blasts to keep Attackers at bay until the reach the priest. Then, he would tag team the inquisition using a combination of telekinetic pull and blast to keep bring him down.
Hopefully, they would be able to take the head priest without killing him. Barley would help Rose's mind mage, the old lady, to bind him physically while she binds his mind.
If things turn desperate and reinforcements arrive for the priests. Barley will use his telekinesis firestorm to try to heat up the opponents armor without actually setting anything on fire (we are in a fir tree forest after all.) If this is not possible mechanically, I don't want to do this part I would like to run and punch instead.

As you advance upon the temple priest and acolytes lord Alaric loudly proclaims their presence and demands the priests either allow the assembled lords to watch and learn or halt the ritual. The priests, all dressed in dark hooded robes continue their chanting in unison. They encircle a central stone altar where ritual lines have been drawn by some means that glow in the dark.
The dark priests intensify their chanting. None of the clergy act but several of their guard step from the shadows to block the mounted nobles parties advance. Meanwhile the ritual continues causing the skies to darken further as a menacing energies bather in the center of the valley. The ground trembles, and an eerie wind stirs. Alaric and Rose try to push past the guards but several of the other nobles are hesitant to draw sword against the temple. Though the ritual had a sinister feel many mutter that is is known that the Dark Temple employs great dark power, but it has always been for the people.
Barley watches all of this from the back keeping an eye and ear on what transpires. Suddenly Barley sees that as Alaric loose his temper and try to push past the guard one of the guards in back raises a crossbow to fire on him. As the guard readies his bow Barley crushes the bow, causing it to explode in his face and draw everyone's attention to the figure. Several of the lords become enrages at this and move to support Alaric but a couple still hold back.

Barely casts a psychic blast at Bjornhild, disrupting his spell and freeing Alaric to lead the charge. Chaos ensues. Barley and Rodney move with Lord Rose to try and close the gap to Alaric to support him. Rodney moves to keep any from engaging Barley in combat, freeing Barley to support the fight in general. Barley conjures illusions of additional men, uses his telekinesis to give the lord's men openings, heating enemy armor and weapons, but mostly he focuses on the ritual to find the high priest to disrupt the ritual.

Barley is close enough to cast spells on the transformed priest and watch the fight but there it too much interference to get closer at this time. You can either summarize as you just did or enter and use combat rules till the end of the conflict... whatever that may be

The fighting had stilled at the flaming eruption and as he staggered to his feet Alaric called out.
Hold men!
Priests of the temple lay down your arms and your lives will be spared. Only to hear a priest retort that they would surely be slain should they do so. Alaric proclaimed that any dark pries who surrendered would be under his protection and any who harmed on under his protection would answer in kind. A speech followed in which Alaric proclaimed himself to be a paladin for a god of light, only choosing to reveal himself when the dark gods overstepped themselves and sought to take dominion over these lands of the Mortal Realm. He proposed to the assembled lords that the law be changed so that the gods of light be allowed temples in the land as well. The dark temple was to remain as it was the savior of the land during the Shattering but that without the balance of the gods of light they would fall to twisted paths that would only lead to the nations downfall. Just as love, peace, and prosperity in excess lead to idleness, sloth, and weakness so to does anger, greed, and envy in excess lead to internal strife, discention, and collapse. It would only be through the balance of the two forces, and perhaps a grey god or two, that the constant pull of forces would drive the nation to greatness.
What followed was mostly politics with a bit of theology. While the armsmen set about securing prisoners the lords took lead representatives of the dark temple along with Alaric to go see the city administrator. Barley knew the following weeks would be important to the future, but not to the story. Thanking Rodney and telling him to relay his thanks to lord Rose, Barley quietly slipped away, retracing his steps and soon found his way back to the Bards abode.

I will introduce Barley after Vaun posts and you can post after that.
