While I'm finishing getting things set up, it's a chance to do the game of 20 questions. I encourage you to add your character's responses here while building your character sheet! I was thinking we'd go for enough xp for school rank 2, which should be around 45xp, but I can modify that a bit if people prefer.

I'll start. I'm going to make a Dragon named Agasha Min, a shugenja of the Agasha Mystic School. She's the overshadowed little sister to Agasha Tsoe, a protege sword master and darling of her generation. Min is a metalurgist by passion. Is that brought on by her sister's choices? Of course.

TWENTY QUESTIONS

1: Clan: Dragon: +1 Fire, +1 Meditation, 30 Status
2: Family: Agasha: +1 Fire, +1 Medicine, +1 Smithing, 40 Glory, 4 Koku
3: School: Agasha Mystics: +1 Earth, +1 Water, +1 Martial Arts (Unarmed), +1 Meditation, +1 Smithing, 40 Honor, Invocations (Tetsubo of Earth, Path to Inner Peace, Jurojin's Balm), Rituals (Cleanings Rite, Commune with the Spirits), School ability (Elemental Transmutation), Starting Outfit (Sanctified Robes, wakazashi, bo, knife, traveling pack, scroll satchel, set of glass vials, journal)
4. How do you stand out in the school? Insightful (+1 Void)
5. Lord and Duty: Shiro Chiyu is the ancestral home of the Chiyu daimyo, but the large town surrounding it is governed by Chiyu Mitsunori, her uncle (mother's sister's husband). In exchange for her service as shugenja advisor to the Chiyu Daimyo on matters of weaponry and smithing, she allowed freedom to research on her own.
6. Longing vs Duty: ninjo: to earn praise for her own accomplishments, not as Tsoe's sister.
7. Relationship to the Dragon: She follows the main tenets. +5 Glory
8. Bushido: Orthodox. +10 Honor
9. Greatest accomplishment: She has created a new alloy of steel that is more flexible than regular steel. Distinction: Famously Successful (Fire)
10. What holds her back? Ebisu's Curse (Earth) page 120
11. Peaceful activity: Armament (Earth)
12. Anxieties: Jealousy (Air) - she feels overshadowed and doesn't like that at all.
13. Mentor: Her mentor was a Miromoto tutor, whom she learned the bladework from. The man died to protect her, and haunts her still. Haunting(Void) and Martial Arts (Melee).
14. What do people notice about her? She is small, but wiry and strong. Her eyes flash with suspicion or defiance despite her words. Her hands are rough from the smith's forge.
15. Reacts in stressful situations: She physically moves to the side, or deflects, as if to avoid the conflict.
16. Prexisting relationships: The Agasha and Chiyu holdings border the Phoenix lands, and she has strong ties to the Isawa family. Most of her matrimonial interests have been expressed from across the border.
17. Parents describe her as: Small, quiet, bookish. She would be prettier if she stayed away from the forges.
18. Her name honors: Agasha Mumin, a reknowned swordmaster of the Miromoto school. Stolen Knowledge -5 Honor, free Ritual: Threshold Barrier
19. Personal name: Min
20. How should she die? She will likely be executed by her lords enemies without a trial.

TWENTY QUESTIONS
Daidoji Haru
1: Clan: Crane: +1 Air, +1 Culture, 35 Status
2: Family: Daidoji: +1 Earth, +1 Fitness, +1 Tactics, 40 Glory, 7 Koku

4. How do you stand out in the school? Grace (+1 Water)
5. Lord and Duty: Daidoji yojimbo had secured the elite houses of the Crane for generations. Ira's slaughter of the Clan Champion brought outrage to the courts--and shame to the Daidoji for failing in their duty. As such, the Daidoji daimyo has commissioned Haru to bring Ira to justice.
6. Longing vs Duty: ninjo: Haru would much prefer to sip sake while admiring Asahina Yumi's scintillating ikebana displays and indulging in her conversation.

8. Bushido: Orthodox. +10 Honor
9. Greatest accomplishment: Haru dreads neither samurai nor gaki. Indomitable Will (Earth)
10. What holds her back? Daikoku's Curse (Water)
11. Peaceful activity: Sake (Water)
12. Anxieties: Materialism (Void)
13. Spouse: His spouse Asahina Yumi's delight in their marriage only pales in her delight in the teachings of peace. She would find no greater joy than for Haru to retire from his position to help her host tea ceremonies for family, friends, and strangers. Until then, she labors hard and prays fervently for his warlike heart to change. Bitter Betrothal (Water) and increase Martial Arts (Melee).
14. What do people notice about him? Haru possesses a swimmer's fluid grace and strength, which his height accents further. He wears a star-studded obi as a gift from his spouse to remind him of her prayers.
15. Reacts in stressful situations: Haru's jaw clenches and his fingers twitch as though seeking to grip a weapon.
16. Preexisting relationships: During a Winter Court, Haru competed in warrior's duels as displays of skill. He earned Shiba Nariuji's respect for their parity on the dueling grounds with hafted weapons. Nariuji gifted Haru an ornate Ji of the Shiba Guardians to commemorate the experience.
17. Parents describe her as: Haru's parents considered him dedicated to honing his profession, expanding even into Kyūdō. (+1 Martial Arts [Ranged])

Hida Shingenhide
TWENTY QUESTIONS
1: Clan: Crab: +1 Earth, +1 Fitness, 30 Status
2: Family: Hida: Fire ring +1, Command and Tactics skills +1, Glory 44
3: School: Hida Defender (Bushi): +1 Earth, +1 Water; +1 Fitness, +1 Martial Arts (Melee), +1 Martial Arts (Ranged), +1 Survival, +1 Tactics; 40 Honor, Kata (Lord Hida's Grip, Striking as Earth), School ability (Way of the Crab), Lacquered armor, traveling clothes, daishō (katana and wakizashi), tetsubō, crossbow, knife, traveling pack, 3 koku.
4. How do you stand out in the school? Thoroughness (Earth ring +1)
5. Lord and Duty: Shingenhide since a young age was recognized as a gifted swordsman by his liege lord and assigned to study at the feet of Hida Takeno to focus on martial arts. It is his giri to earn honor for the Hida Defender school, not only by doing his part in fighting to hold Crab territory against dark threats, but in competitions and duels against other schools' and clans' swordsmen.
6. Longing vs Duty: ninjo: Shigenhide longs for the Crab clan to be recognized as equal or superior to the other clans, instead of only grudgingly accepted and scoffed at behind their backs, due to their lack of courtly skill and politics. He sees the only path to this through becoming undeniably stronger as he can devise no way to being tricked by their deceptions and flowery language.
7. Relationship to the Crab: He follows the main tenets. +5 Glory
8. Bushido: Combat is not a game and Shingenhide is not above losing honor for a quick and decisive victory. +1 Survival
9. Greatest accomplishment: Shingenhide was victor of the most recent dueling competition held by the Hida Defender school and singlehandedly defeated other school's champions though the Crane champion defeated in the final duel questioned whether he followed good sportsmanship. (Quick Reflexes - Fire)
10. What holds him back? Bluntness (Air). His rudeness and loose following of bushido would likely have already had far greater consequences if not for his drop of imperial heritage which causes people to treat him more favorably.
11. Peaceful activity: Stories (Earth)
12. Anxieties: Cynicism (Fire)
13. Mentor: Hida Takeno--having spent more time with the schoolmaster than anyone else since his teens, Takeno is closer than a father to Shigenhide than a teacher. Most of what he does is rooted in what he believes will bring Takeno and their school honor, or would meet with Takeno's approval. However, it is from Takeno that Shigenhide gleaned the lesson of victory above all else.
14. What do people notice about him? Shigenhide is large and thickset like the stereotypical Hida samurai, but he moves much faster than expected, at times with sudden explosiveness.
15. Reacts in stressful situations: Shingenhide will unconsciously start to fall into the breathing and stretching exercises that begin his training kata as if preparing for combat. When he catches himself doing so, he will then mentally scold himself and stiffen.
16. Preexisting relationships: Having defeated champions from other clans that came to challenge his school, Shingenhide has accrued some honor with his lord, clanmates, and peers. He has also been a valuable warrior when he has taken up arms to defend Crab territory. However, he lacks very close friends because those he has competed with both inside and outside of his clan sense that he is willing to take any advantage for victory. There are several who will feel he did not show good sportsmanship during duels and won dishonorably.
17. Parents describe him as: Devoted in his martial studies, very thorough in nature--following instructions to the letter and making sure every step is completed--but not very free thinking. Very curt and direct in his speech, but this is simply his nature.
18. His name honors: Kakita Shigenhide, distant uncle of Shingehide's mother who died young during the political turmoil of Iweko I's reign. (Imperial Heritage: +10 Status, Blessed Linegage).
19. Personal name: Shingen
20. How should he die? By those revolting against his crude attempts to brute force others into accepting the Crab's superiority.
