Team Chalice Character Generation

Aug 27, 2016 11:57 pm
You may discuss your character plans here. It may prove less distracting to discuss amongst yourselves rather than filter out the other team's choices.

I will honor any rolls made in the global Player Character thread.
Aug 28, 2016 12:41 am
Just to be sure if we haven't rolled we do it in this thread now, right?

To Kuroi, since you submitted it first, i'd figure i'd ask before just going through with it. I made a bard when I applied to the game, so i'll leave it up to you if I use him or not. Don't feel bad about saying no either, I wont hold any hard feeling against you.

To CancerMan, is there any backstory with the characters? Do they all already know each other or will the story begin with us meeting?
Aug 28, 2016 12:44 am
Yes, go ahead and roll here.

You are all part of the team so you would have met each other previously. Feel free to come up with a backstory for why you joined the Pale in the fight against Caer Tan, as well as any connection or bonds with other players.
Aug 28, 2016 12:50 am
Well if I roll or not depends on Kurois answer. I'm probably going to roll if I can be a bard but will choose the two feat option if not.
If I roll now will I be forced into using those stats, depending on the answer? Also, are custom backgrounds allowed (PHB. 126/7)?

You either roll 2d4+10 for each stat, or you take the standard array with free feat. There's obvious advantages to either, so pick one and stick with it.

You can customize your background using the material in the PHB.
Aug 28, 2016 1:33 am
Some of the classes I'm considering are UA. Mystic only goes up to 10th level. Spirit Ranger only goes to 5th. Would that be a problem?
Aug 28, 2016 1:47 am
HypCo, you can also be a bard :) There are different colledges and who said that there couldn't be characters with the same clase?
Aug 28, 2016 1:56 am
Awesome man, for backstory purpose we could of been band mates or something. Any idea what college/spells you're choosing? I'm most likely going lore. Haven't really set in my 1st level spells yet, cantrips most likely are going to be minor illusion and vicious mockery.

Rolls

Please be kind. - (2d4+10, 2d4+10, 2d4+10, 2d4+10, 2d4+10, 2d4+10)

2d4+10 : (44) + 10 = 18

2d4+10 : (33) + 10 = 16

2d4+10 : (33) + 10 = 16

2d4+10 : (34) + 10 = 17

2d4+10 : (41) + 10 = 15

2d4+10 : (14) + 10 = 15

Hm. The issue with these classes is that it feels like they were meant to cap at their respective levels. The Spirit Ranger, for example, seems really powerful in the initial stages, and if we homebrewed something beyond 5th-level it appears like it would get way out of hand (ie 40d6 HD by level 20). Same goes for the Mystic.

And if we considered a multi-class option once you reach the cap, it feels similar to allowing someone to gain levels after 20.

I could also consider that once you reach the cap, that's it. But that's no fun.

I think the simplest solution would be to disallow these specific classes or any others that have no level progression up to 20.
Aug 28, 2016 3:26 am
Any player want to switch from Team Chalice to Team Rose? Leviathan75 and Cmbrian know each other and it might be nice for them to be on the same team.
Aug 28, 2016 3:37 am
Do you know any of the classes over there?
Also would it be possible to combine my flute and dagger, to have some sort of flute with a sharp point at the end? It adds a little to the backstory so it isn't just a regular flute, up to you though.
Aug 28, 2016 3:44 am
No one has mentioned any particular classes.
Aug 28, 2016 3:45 am
Ask them if they want a bard, i'll switch if they'll take me.
Aug 28, 2016 4:02 am
I'll just switch you anyway. Each team has 6 characters, so there's enough room for duplicate classes.

As for the pointy flute, that's fine. It will have the same stats as a dagger.
Aug 28, 2016 3:27 pm
Thanks for the invite and accommodation CMan! I'm thinking of a DEX fighter or a rogue based on party needs.

Ok, no problem. I just want to do something I've never tried before. I'm sure I haven't exhausted the PHB yet! :-D

Hey guys! I'm happy to play a filler role... Meat shield, healer, damage or utility.
Aug 29, 2016 12:15 pm
Here we go!

Well, poop. Haven't rolled an 18 at first level since I fudged rolls in 4th grade.

So that's how many bards on this team? Play what you wanna play, I know, but I don't want to be a 3rd or 4th bard - this aint no boy band LOL!
Sep 1, 2016 6:33 pm
If allowed, I'm thinking about maybe a Scout Fighter from Kits of Old or maybe a Swashbuckler Rogue from Waterborne Adventures. Or how about a No-Magic Ranger?

I am not opposed to any. Thank you for linking the PDFs; that swashbuckler looks nasty at first glance.
Sep 1, 2016 7:01 pm
I have yet to play a rogue in 5e (played a rogue in a decade-long 3e campaign back in the 2000's). What sort of rogue are you playing, Cmbrian?

I was actually thinking swashbuckler -- a player in one of my campaigns plays one and the mechanic is cool. Particularly since we're from an island.

If you want it, I'll switch to something arcane; our party is a little light on the magic (no offense to the bard).
Sep 1, 2016 8:12 pm
No, don't switch on account of me. :-) I see that you've already submitted and you were first to call dibs on rogue anyway.
Sep 1, 2016 9:03 pm
If it helps then I will go Eldritch Knight path with my fighter...

That way we would have some magic

We've got 5 of the 6 players submitted and approved. If you haven't already, please post in the Team Chalice Roster thread with your character. It's a handy way to reference your team without having to search through the RP posts.

I'll start the game for your team now. As it is an introductory thread, it's simple enough to slide in the last person once they've finished character generation.
Sep 5, 2016 4:33 am
Sorry for the delay! It's been a hellish week. :-P Ok, I finally have some time to give this some attention.

So what I'm seeing is
Jinn24 : Haesh Rowen (Human Fighter)
Leviathan75 : Rhodrick (Human Dex Fighter)
navyericj : Sajib Shadowmender (Svirfneblin Ranger)
Cmbrian : Parallel Greenbottle (Halfling Swashbuckler Rogue)
Jabes.plays.RPG:
Who's our sixth?

Looks like we're a little lacking in the magic department. I've always preferred martial classes but if you guys want I can do a caster. CancerMan, is draconic bloodline sorc off-limits?
Sep 5, 2016 9:01 am
Kuroi is playing a half-elf bard, last I recall.

Draconic bloodline sorceror is perfectly acceptable. You just can't be dragonborn.
Sep 6, 2016 3:57 am
Any chances there is going to be a cleric on our team? :)
Sep 6, 2016 4:00 am
One other thing... I would not mind going Eldritch Knight fighter, but I'm not really sure how I can fit it in with my character/ character background. Do you guys have any thoughts?

Finally submitted my character: Naozar Casma, Half-Elf Sorcerer.

He's of noble birth from a proud family that boasts of draconic ancestry, and loyal to the empire. Naozar has joined the resistance in secret. He's very good at disguising himself, and when he's on-mission for the Pale Deva he is always incognito.

I have two empty language slots. I'd like to pick something that makes sense in the context of world history as well as the family's history. Any suggestions? Ignan could be one of them, maybe?

If you're interested in the language of the Fire Elemental, I'm treating such languages as Primordial, since it fits with the Genasi race.

As for context, what does your family do? Do they primarily delve into the arcane and contribute magical power to the empire? That could likely explain Primordial, especially if your ancestors dealt with elementals or elemental resources.

Your second language choice can be anything, as all standard languages are spoken throughout the empire. Perhaps your family has a connection with drow and duergar communities in the Underdark, so you could know Undercommon. Or your family dealt with more-sinister beings like beholders or mind flayers, so you could know Deep Speech.
Sep 7, 2016 8:07 am
I don't know why I put that question in a secret note. I've opened it up now. :-)

I don't see the Casma family as being magical. The magic in the draconic blood has lain dormant for generations but in Naozar's case with the infusion of fey blood it has been awakened. It's yet another secret he keeps from his family and the world in general.

He's Zorro in the sense that just like Diego dela Vega, to the world he's just a wastrel with a good family name but as his alter-ego he's fighting against the establishment. I guess I need an alias, eh? :-D

So I don't know if there's any good reason for him to learn exotic languages. Maybe his family is in mining? :-D

I also want to mention that generally tend not to play spellcasters, and among the sorcererous origins I'm more a fan of Storm than Draconic, but given the setting I thought a secret agent with draconic ancestry would be very interesting to roleplay. :-)

There's nothing wrong with learning the other standard languages such as dwarven, giant, goblin, or orc. While there are still pockets of traditional D&D monster groups in the wild, many cities also have goblins and orcs wandering about, a by-product of the "civilized" life Caer Tan has brought to the realm.
Sep 7, 2016 6:07 pm
Sticking to the old standards then, I guess: Dwarven and Goblin. :-)

Do halflings hail from any particular region? Parallel is a Stout.
Sep 8, 2016 10:57 pm
Not really. Aside from the Underdark and Caer Tan, races are widespread enough to be found anywhere.

Welcome Tsavo! You are a new member of Team Chalice, and this thread is for character generation.

As described in the game details, you may roll 2d4+10 for each attribute, or take the standard array with a free feat. You can select any race. However, you cannot be dragonborn, and your alignment cannot be evil.

You can select almost any class provided I am able to have a reference to it. I do not accept the Mystic class primarily because it only goes up to level 10, but I do accept the revised Ranger rules.

Your current team members include:
Haesh Rowan, Human Fighter
Naozar Casma, Half-Elf Sorcerer
Parallel Greenbottle, Halfling Rogue
Rhodrick Blackstone, Human Fighter
Oct 26, 2016 6:54 am
Welcome to the team, Tsavo!
Oct 26, 2016 9:59 am
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Excited to join the team!

I'll post my rolls and character when I get home from work tonight. I'll also finish reading up on everything I can so I don't ask too many stupid questions. In the meantime, here's one, am I rolling my character at level one?

Again, thanks for the welcome and letting me join late.
Oct 26, 2016 3:49 pm
Yes, your character will be level 1.
Oct 26, 2016 8:11 pm
Not to be high maintenance but I have one or two more quick questions before I submit a character. Does the group as a whole feel we could use more front line help or more crowd control? Would we benefit more from me going melted or ranged?

I have A couple of concepts drawn up, and this will help me decide which to go with.

Finally, this is my first time on here, is there a specific way on site that I roll? Or do I roll on my own at home? I'm assuming the later but i wanted to make sure first.
Oct 26, 2016 8:18 pm
GamersPlane has a built-in dice roller. In this thread, you can click on the Advanced button which takes you to a new screen. At the bottom, you'll see "Add a new roll: Basic" and you can click Add.

A new box will appear. Under Reason, you can enter whatever you'd like, such as "Attributes" or similar. Under Roll, you enter the dice and modifiers. Multiple dice can be added by separating them with commas.

Example: 1d20+1, 1d8-3. The dice results will appear once you hit Post.

For your character generation, you would enter "2d4+10, 2d4+10, 2d4+10, 2d4+10, 2d4+10, 2d4+10" if you were going to do the 2d4+10 attribute rolls.

Rolls

Example - (1d20+1, 1d8-3)

1d20+1 : (8) + 1 = 9

1d8-3 : (2) - 3 = -1

Oct 26, 2016 8:23 pm
In my opinion crowd control would be best... we have 2 fighters and a rogue already, so if you have a magic user character you would like to play then that would be great for our team. Up to you though.
Oct 26, 2016 8:27 pm
Here is what I've rolled for my character.

Rolls

Attributes - (2d4+10, 2d4+10, 2d4+10, 2d4+10, 2d4+10, 2d4+10)

2d4+10 : (11) + 10 = 12

2d4+10 : (23) + 10 = 15

2d4+10 : (43) + 10 = 17

2d4+10 : (43) + 10 = 17

2d4+10 : (31) + 10 = 14

2d4+10 : (24) + 10 = 16

Oct 26, 2016 8:29 pm

Yes. Whatever race you end up picking will add their racial bonuses to the attributes. And you can assign your rolls to the attributes.
