Chapter 1: An intriguing proposal

Jan 23, 2024 12:44 am
OOC:
Ok, there are still some things to check with Maya, Rogue didn't submit her sheet and Bitoris didn't accept the invitation. The remainder of the players are ready, though, so we can start the game and fix those things on the fly. The character generation thread will continue in parallel.
In the heart of Satton V's sprawling metropolis, towering skyscrapers, adorned with holographic billboards, cast long shadows over narrow alleyways. Neon lights reflected off rain-soaked surfaces and the air was thick with a cocktail of synthetic aromas, a blend of street food vendors and industrial exhaust that clung to the atmosphere.

People moved through the streets with rushed steps, their cybernetic enhancements catching the neon glow. Chrome limbs seamlessly blended with organics, and augmented eyes glowed with an eerie luminescence. Holographic projections danced above the crowded thoroughfares, advertising the latest cyber enhancements, illicit software, and corporate propaganda.

Street vendors peddled their wares from makeshift stalls, selling everything from junk food and black-market cyberware to virtual reality experiences that promised escape from the gritty reality. The distant hum of hover vehicles reverberated off the high-rises, creating a constant ambient soundtrack for the city's denizens.

Amidst the towering structures, the colossal shipyard stood as a testament to Satton V's technological prowess. Thousands of laborers and scientists toiled tirelessly, constructing sleek starships that would soon navigate the vast reaches of space.

The world was dominated by 15 megacorporations, each one far more important than the vestigial national remnants that encompass them. An over-council of representatives from those companies loomed in the background, ensuring that none of the megacorps stepped too far out of line.

In one of those streets, a figure emerged from the shadows, blending seamlessly with the neon-lit environment. Cloaked in darkness, she moved with purpose, navigating the crowded streets with the fluidity of a seasoned operative. She entered a dimly lit, tucked-away cyberpunk bar known as "The Null Nexus," where a diverse group of individuals were already gathered around a table, waiting for her amidst the pulsating beats of synthetic music. The air was thick with the scent of vaporized stimulants and the hum of concealed conversations. The bar's usual clientele included mercenaries, hackers, smugglers, pilots and rogues—individuals who thrived in the shadows of Satton V's towering corporate structures.

Her name was Lyra, and she was an information broker. Her attire blended seamlessly with the environment, a sleek trench coat adorned with luminescent circuit patterns. Strands of blue bioluminescent hair framed her face, adding a touch of ethereal charm to her appearance. Her eyes, enhanced with augmented lenses, glowed with intensity. A neural implant subtly visible on her temple hinted at her proficiency in navigating the intricate web of information that permeated Satton V.

Lyra's skills as an information broker were renowned throughout the metropolis. Her ability to unearth hidden secrets, decrypt data, connect people and navigate the dark corners of the net made her an invaluable asset in a city where knowledge was power.

Sitting at the table were Maya, Phantom, Ariel, Adeon and Nesta.
OOC:
Please introduce and describe your characters and how/why they knew each other. Lyra contacted you about a job, that we will roleplay after your introductions
Jan 24, 2024 11:55 pm
Sitting in the corner of the table, with her legs tucked in, her headphones on, and paying very close attention to her left forearm that emits a dull light, Nesta did not even notice when Lyra joined the group.

Wearing a big brown trench coat that contrasts its own plain appearance with a bright purple hair, that is well kept in a mohawk, gray eyes and a pale skin that reflects her many years with a lack of fondness for natural sunlight.

After years as a tech inside of a star freighter, she left this world behind when she discovered the rotten underbelly of the business, she will never forget that day, it was the day she lost her arm, the day she decided to become a hacker and earn her money in other ways, and the day she started her revenge plan.

That day was also the day when she met Maya, going after a rumor of a doctor that was able to fix almost anything, by very cheap and without asking many questions, Maya fixed her arm the best she could, and Nesta also added some modifications of her own. From them on, a great friendship flourished, fueled by a similar world view and a desperate need to make some money, with that came others who were in similar situations, and she is still learning how to cope with such a big group of friends.
OOC:
I left the way she met the others beside Maya kinda vague on purpose, as I am the first to post that leaves more liberty to everyone to come up with something on their own
Jan 25, 2024 10:41 pm
Wearing a dark green shirt, black pants, and a pair of worn-out vintage boots, Maya, the black-and-green-haired doctor, was standing beside the table, trying to convince Nesta to take her headphones out, even though she already knew that it was a lost battle she was trying to win.

She found it funny how odd that group was, and how it was peculiar how little she cared about those individuals' past. She helped Nesta with her arm, no questions asked - ok, maybe a few questions asked, she needed to know how bad was the situation. Nesta seemed fine, Nesta treated her fine, so that was all she cared about.

Something similar happened when she found herself in the middle of a skirmish situation in Lumensky, the city that never sleeps. She got a call to help some injured kids who unfortunately happened to be around when the peace-breakers started the chaos. As she entered the pub, she found herself face-to-face with a white-haired badass woman kicking a bunch of strong and tall cyborgs. They were skeptical of each other's intentions due to the situation they'd met, but Maya soon noticed the woman was trying to protect the injured kids, then she showed her the only 2 things she was carrying: a small laser pistol and a backpack full of healing kits. That was enough of a conversation for both of them to understand that even though they had very different approaches to how to deal with that situation, they had a sense of justice connecting them. After they both did what they had to do to keep those kids safe, they only shared two phrases that marked the beginning of that friendship: 'The name is Rogue', said the woman. 'Pleasure. The name is Maya', she said.

Right as she was getting lost in her thoughts, she saw the bioluminescent-haired woman and thought to herself: oh, she really came!

more less in the middle of the table, was Ariel, young 22 yo, with a classic blue pilot suit covering the safety (almost military)suit . Just like an angel (as his name sugests) pretty as always, with an enviable posture, slightly wavy brown hair, manly jaws and eye brows, inocen, kind and naught eyes and mounth, playing the new "Super Hyper Mega Ultra Blaster Mario Kart" in his Nintendo Avenir (just launched) that he brought with the money he was saving for a few months.

very confortable with presence of everyone, always complaining with losing again in the game, as some of you may be used to due to previous missions with him, when he notice lyra was there, he turn off the console and pokes maya to pay atention, that he may have some more afinity due to nerdiness, and because he knows that he may get lost in some chest passing by at some point (or not depend at the seriousness of the talk).

Lyra's eyes scanned the faces around the table, her gaze lingering on each member of the diverse group. The rhythmic pulse of music and the ambient buzz of the bar served as a backdrop to her words.

"Listen up, folks," she began, her voice cutting through the low hum of conversations. "I've got a lead on a lost ship, a nice one from the early days of Federation expansion. The kind of vessel that carries more secrets than its hull can contain."

Her fingers danced over a holographic interface, projecting an image of the ship onto the table. It flickered and shimmered, revealing a sleek, scout vessel.

"The catch? It's broken, unable to fly, and the powers that be want it back," Lyra continued, her bioluminescent hair casting a soft glow in the dimly lit bar. "Recovering it won't be a walk in the park. But there are factions willing to pay handsomely to have it restored, and I've got a feeling this isn't just about a lost ship—it's about what it carries in its databanks."

She paused, letting the gravity of the situation settle in before leaning towards the table, her augmented eyes gleaming. "Now, I'm not handing out charity missions. But for a small finder fee of 100 credits each, I'll share the planet's information, the ship intel, and the patron for this mission. You will be able to knock at his door and be hired. The rest is up to you."

What do you do?

Nesta eyes finally lift from her DataPad when she hear's about the possible rewards involved, she's excited but still apprehensive of why someone would give out that info out of the blue.

Not sure why she would trust us with such info, specially if we are not sure what the ship could hold

She gave a look to the other as to ask for re-assurace if they were also interested

"Do you have any idea what it would be holding in the databanks?"
OOC:
P.S.: could i roll a know test? to see if i could know it mysef?

"No, that would be something to ask your patron for this job. If you accept my fee, I will give you his contact. I'm just an intermediate." - she answers
OOC:
Nops. That's not public / common knowledge nor something you could have heard/read/learned before. ;)

Ariel, explicitly excited, trying to hide it, clear your throat, and asks "yeah, so it means you only have interest in the databanks? what gonna be our payment? when do we start? already opening an exchange transaction with his part of the money settled in, waiting for the others to agree, and the money is only tranfered when both sides are satisfied.

"Nah, my interest is just in you taking this job and paying my fee. The patron's interest may be in the ship, the databanks or both. I don't know, though. Some of those old scout ships have very valuable databases, but some don't. I'm just putting it at the table.

But I'm pretty sure your payment is gonna be 1,000 credits each for ‘incidental expenses’ up front, a couple of resources and legal access to the ship after you recover it, but I can't tell you exactly how that will happen before you sign our smart contract.

Here are my terms"
- Lyra says, transmitting the smart contract to your compads.

Sylonean Smart Contract L006754

1. When you sign this contract, you will gain immediate access to an encrypted data file with information about a ship, a planet, a recovery mission and the identity of who or what organization is giving this mission, henceforth called "Patron". Contact information will be provided, so you can go there and be recruited.

2. There are no guarantees by this contract that you will be accepted for the mission by the "Patron" or that you will succeed in it. It's up to you.

3. Within one year from the date you sign this contract, if you ever receive 100 credits or more from this "Patron" to your account, this contract will automatically transfer 100 credits for Lyra's account, once. After that transfer, this contract ends and self-destructs.

"See?" - she says, after you read her finder's contract and fee. - "Very reasonable. Don't you agree? Let's sign it."

after she says that the patron also have interest in the ship, ariel gets a little less excited, but after she says that we'll have legal access to the ship, he got excited again, and then, he already goes taking the pen (or whatever is used) to sign the contract, and says "honey Please, i am Ariel Aurea, remember this name, the best Pilot you'll ever see, i'll get this job for sure"
OOC:
hope don't cut the scene with the "denied" in the screen and my face crying in the background hahahahahaah

OOC:
You sign in your own Compad, in your bank account app, with your password and biometrics =)

Haha. Let's wait for @xoroede,@swehtam,@Spectro to post at least once here and everyone ask any questions or to accept the contract, before Lyra answers again. =)

At the far end of the table rests a figure one might dub a 'man' – Adeon. Short, black hair forms a spiky topknot, and a torn, dirty brown blanket envelops his entire body. Adeon's dark silhouette, a towering two meters in height with a broad torso, sharply contrasts the others gathered around the table.

Seated uncomfortably, his knees press against the table's base, leaving minimal room for movement. Beside him, Ariel and Rogue sit a tad too close, a result of the cramped space. Adeon, mindful not to jostle his companions, keeps his arms close.

Despite the awkward seating arrangement, Adeon remains tethered to the table, courtesy of newfound friends who extend warmth to this outsider discovered adrift in the cosmos. His companions, having stumbled upon him alone in an escape pod, resolved to make him feel at home. Adeon, having endured a week without sustenance or drink by Earth's reckoning, was plucked from space's vastness by Ariel's piloted ship during one of their crew missions. With Rogue's assistance, they transported Adeon into the vessel for much-needed medical and mechanical attention from Maya and Nesta.

Adeon, although his body is now a fusion of machinery and organic matter from the neck down – a creation despised by Conocorp, due to his basic human needs – hides beneath the tattered blanket. However, as he sits at the table, a metallic hand reaches out to grab 'The Blue Nexus', a local drink. Despite the prevalence of mechanical improvements among space travelers, Adeon is hesitant to reveal his full form.

Taking a sip, he remarks, "That's the best blue drink I've ever tasted. The other one left a foul taste, making my tongue oddly soft. Why you folks kept it near the cleaning supplies, I have no idea. Something called 'Downy,' I think."

As Lyra finally joins the table, Adeon, still somewhat perplexed, listens intently to her plan explanation. Without uttering a word, he mimics Angel, signing the contract. Now, he patiently awaits the signatures of the others.

Nesta looks perplexed on why her friends would "sign" a document, something so pretech to do, she receives the smart contract in her arm datapad, reads through it and presses her finger in the scanner to confirm the contract with her blockchain code.

Moving on as it's been a couple of days. The remaining players will catch up soon enough. =)
One by one, the whole group signed. Lyra's eyes glinted with satisfaction as she observed the signed contracts. She pocketed the holographic device and leaned forward, her bioluminescent hair casting an ethereal glow.

"Excellent. The patron you're seeking is the Sylonean Federation Scout Service. Markus Solanis, the head of the local SFSS office, is looking for a crew to recover a lost scout ship. You should head to the SFSS Station in orbit around our planet."

She paused, doing something with her neural implant.

"You've just secured an appointment with him and the Scout Service's Detached Duty Office, tomorrow, 9 AM to talk about the recovery of their ship. If you want to, you can grab a shuttle from the city's spaceport tomorrow at 8AM. Tickets are sold in the spaceport for 15 credits each. The name of the ship that I mentioned is the Scout Ship D0002975, it’s current location is in Watson. Here are the files. Further details will be given by Mr. Solanis." she stated, her tone conveying a sense of urgency and importance.
OOC:
Those red words are links for the Game Details threads.

If you wanna sell and/or buy equipment, now is a good time, as you are still in the city. You can also look or do something else, as you have until tomorrow.

Anyway, what do you do?
Lyra
Jan 30, 2024 12:21 am
Nesta is ready to go and starts looking up info on the Watson location, and it’s waiting on the others to head to the appointment.
OOC:
Some questions:
- what time is it? Is the meeting the next day?
- Are all the posts in the stellar cartography and lore channels common knowledge to us? Or we would have to roll to know that?

7 PM. Yup, next day

Case-by-case. Most of that can be known by most people. Those two datafiles is known to all of you, now that Lyra gave you, no need to roll.
Jan 31, 2024 6:19 pm
as soon as the talk ends, Ariel will draw his Nintendo, and just follow the instructions, he dont money have to spare anyway hahaha
Jan 31, 2024 7:22 pm
Maya leans to catch a glimpse of where Watson is through Nesta's pads and starts to read the documents. She is in no financial condition to go around shopping, so she's ready to go.

"I guess I see you guys at the spaceport tomorrow!? Adeon, buddy, remember to set the alarm to before the appointment scheduled hour, okay?"
Jan 31, 2024 10:40 pm
"Okay Dr. Maya, I'll try to set this alarm..." - Adeon looks at his compad confused, as he tries to deal with this.

"I found it! I'll set to 7:99 AM, is that ok with you?" - Adeon tries, but he fails miserably and gives up, because 7:99 AM doesn't exist. While making the puppy's eyes, he gives his compad to Maya "Dr. Maya can you set the alarm, for me please?"

Adeon tries to get up from the table without spilling the drinks on it, and takes a large rifle and 4 cartridges of bullets from under his blanket. "Anyway, I need to sell this Combat Rifle and 80 rounds ammo because I dont need it, anyone want go for a walk or want this items?"
OOC:
If none of the other players want these two items Addon will try to sell them somewhere.

OOC:
To sell something, you normally roll Charisma / Trade to see how much you can get there.

But those specific equipment (aka. a combat rifle and ammo) cannot be easily sold as they are restricted... Are you trying to sell them to the mafia/criminals or to a legal gun shop?

Either way, Maya, you know people, so if you wanna help... Roll Charisma/Connect to give him some directions.
