Arc listens carefully the guards...
So, that would be a border storm! It indeed felt very strange, as if travelling across Realms...

Then looking at the tower to the north...
The Infinite Tower, yes, that should be the one. Do you happen to know more about it? Like, who are those elves that dwell in it and their problems, or what kind of magic does it possess?

Arc is thinking about taking the road to the base. But will try to ask a couple more of questions to the guards both in relation to the base and to those sky fishers before continuing walking.

Guard

Don't know their names. But I heard the Shattering broke their tower and they are trying to collect the pieces. Seems some of them landed in the area but they have only gotten a couple back so far. Problem is some of the others, like the ord and hobgoblins, are also taking an interest in the pieces of the tower. As for what it does. . . Well far as I heard it deals with connections to other Realms. Some have even been wondering if the Border storms are due to the tower or people messing with the pieces knocked loose from it He shrugs

Some of the scouts have gone over and talked with them so we got some secondhand intel but that's about it.

Arc flies from the Library Remnant in direction to the Base. Since flying is way faster than walking, and considering there are no real threads for his team in their walk back to the base, he figures he can spend a couple of hours getting to know better these dinos.
He flies looking for a group of herbivores around the path his friends will probably go by, so as to join them, and arrive together at the Base.
Arc doesn't fly too high, not to get attention from the biggest fliers. But just enough altitude to spot a nice group of herbivores. He will look for smaller groups of young triceratops, ankilosaurus or stegosaurus to befriend them.

Having done this before Arc is aware that larger herbivores are easier to approach but smaller ones are easier to entice. The smaller will get more used to your presence quicker but remain skittish. Just part of their nature. The larger ones are more mellow unless they have young and feel threatened for any reason. Finding a nice family pack of ankilosaurus to start with you glide down nearby and casually walk around, near but not next to them. All the while talking and moving in a relaxed maner so they get used to your presence. As this group has no small young, though some are smaller, the mostly ignore the odd small flier that is not threat to them.

The small heard moves and you move with them getting general response from you occasional questions. Good plants. Sniff air for hunters. Listen and feel ground. Noisy two legs annoying. Some two legs hunt in packs. Fear two leg packs. Watch fliers, may react to hunter.

After about half an hour your herd moves closer to some trees and near another herd. This one is of several Apatosaurus. These larger beasts use their long necks to graze on trees and plant alike. Though when the ankilosaurus move into the area they tend to keep to the higher branches.
The Apatosaurus take a bit of moving to get a reaction from as they move their heads around. You eventually get a couple to talk with you and they actually seem to pay more attention to the fliers but also watch for plant motion. You get the feeling that these, though larger, are similar in attitude and intellect to most other grazing herd animals.

You spend a couple of hours hopping and flitting slowly with the herds, taking the time to also get more familiar with the fliers of the area. There are some smaller species that seem to subsist off of the large insect population as well as larger ones that are obviously fishers. There are a couple that hunt other fliers or small creatures on teh ground. None are a threat to you directly but many of them flock and the fishers seem very territorial of other fliers so you are not able to talk with them or the other larger hunters.

Arc shows respect and appreciation for the early friendship accomplished with the ankilosaurus and the apatisaurus. He doesn't want to become yet another annoying 2-legged, but he still has a question to ask both groups (if they allow him). So he looks for some fruits around, or fresh higher leaves that they don't reach, and offers them... then asks their feeling about the remnants (the current occupants, the barriers, anything they distinguish) and tries to get an idea about the differences they recognize on the 2-legged. Arc wishes to gauge if they make a strong difference among the different groups of people, of maybe just between the ones from the Base and the rest... Are the groups perceived in different levels of aggressiveness? Maybe some of the groups hunt while other don't?

And how would they react to open war between people factions in the valley.

If a few of those Dinos he speaks with become more friendly, he will tell them his name is Arrow-Beak (showing one of his arrows and pointing at his beak and maybe some funny acting, and he will ask them for a word to identify them in the future (kind of a name). Meanwhile, he will get as closer as he can without being intrusive, as Arc wants to be sure they could recognize him (by smell) in the future.
OOC:
In relation to an animal's name, I'm remembering that in the Wheel of Time, a wolf is befriended by one of the main characters. It conveys an 'image' of it jumping, thus 'picturing' it's name. Hopefully he can really befriend one or two of each pack.

Dinosaur
While unable to feed by hand Arc is abe lto harvest and use some branches as portable feed dispensers.
Two legs smell differ. Stinky ones all hunt bad but big packs dangerous. Metal and shadow hunters come at times. Small with long teeth also hunt but less trouble. Swamp smelling ones come and hunt but few and weak.
With a bit most questioning you learn the expedition base does at times hunt as do the orcs in the castle and what you believe to be the hobgoblins and goblins and/or kobolds too.

Many two legs bad. leave. Doubtless like other animals the dinosaurs would simply find safer places for food. As spring is fading to summer at this point most of the species are mobile. The river beast can simply transition to higher or lower waters and the grazers would migrate. The swamp dwellers however would have a tough time as they roam less and are more territorial.

Name bad they usually reply as the translation seems to cary predatory connotations which makes the herbivores nervous and is soon forgoten. In return you get a different identity assigned to you from each species you talk with. None of them have the intelligence or ego to care about names but do identify you by association with birds and two leggers. Mostly you name comes out out something along the lines of two-wing-leg with smells mixed in. Those you show, and demonstrate your weapons too amend it to tooth-wing-leg.
As you spend the time you also encounter some of the smaller fliers and are able to entice then to chat with you.
They are mostly bug hunters and seem less threatened by you self title and quickly adapt it to long-maw or tooth-head.

Arc will ask again how would there groups react if there was open war between the different people groups.

Then... Arc is satisfied with the ones he could speak with. He would have prefer to get some of their names, but wouldn't risk this starting friendship by forcing them. Hopefully, when he and his team walks by this area in the future, the dino packs will recognize him as friend.

Finally , Arc just let them be in peace and flew to meet his team in the road to get to the Base together.
OOC:
I'll wait for your confirmation on Arc's arrival to the Base, before posting there. If Arc arrives at the same time as the rest, he will follow the team to report findings to Phlan

Many two legs bad. leave. you gather that should you fight the beast will mostly ignore you but if you get larger numbers involved then the herds will likely shift their location.

Arc gets the impression that names are rare and only apply to title holders or odd balls. Leader, The one who is Stinky, Silly game, and the like are some of the herd names. The fliers tend to have more names. Again the names are iven based on behavior and history of an individual and are earned by acting in unusual ways. You overhear a couple of their names as well but none of the animals self identify by a given name, though some recognize that it is used by others.

Arc is a bit behind the others to arive at the base, as he got distracted conversing with the beasts, but the guards tell you where they went.
