As the group leaves the opposite side of the the Flaming Fist fortress of Wyrm's Rock, they step back onto the great bridge spanning the Chionthar. After a quarter hour of navigating the crowds, they reach the far shore. From there, it's a short walk to the Basilisk Gate, the massive entrance to Baldur's Gate's Lower City.

Aldous points out the stone statues set into the walls around the Basilisk Gate. "These are all depictions of the Grand Dukes. Remember the story about my pirate ancestor? His likeness was the first to be put here. See, there he is!" The young noble gestures to the tall statue just to the left of the city gate. "The first Grand Duke Silvershield."

The Flaming Fist soldiers at the Basilisk Gate give the group a respectful nod, then make a show of questioning them. A few minutes later, the party steps into the city of Baldur's Gate itself.

The place is huge. There are buildings and people everywhere, as far as the eye can see down one street and up the other. Narrow alleyways squeeze between structures easily three or four stories high.

One building in particular catches the party's attention, one with a tall, glittering dome of blue and green. A large sign with alit with magical glow reads Sorcerous Sundries. "One of the greatest shops of magical scrolls and items on all of the Sword Coast!" Aldous proudly informs the group. "I'm sure you'll want to peruse their many wares at some point! We could actually make a stop there now, if you like."

When the group's ready, Koveras takes up the lead. "We have no business caring for the little girl. Better to give her to someone in the Temple District. Come, this way."

Despite her anxieties, Stella puts her tome away when Aldous starts pointing out the sights and lets herself get engrossed in the wonderous views and incredible scale of the bustling streets.

"Oh, yes please!" Stella exclaims, eyes-stars yellow and alight. She looks around to the others. "If...that's alright with everyone? Just for a few minutes!"

"Sure! It will be a nice distraction for Tenya, for a minute or two." Aiwë grins at the little girl.

Tenya blinks at Aiwe. The little girl is still holding tight to Ida's hand. For a moment it looks as though she might say something, but then she drops her eyes and remains quiet.

Inside the gilded doors of Sorcerous Sundries is a beautiful and fashionable hall of bookcases, shelves, curios, and displays. There are spellbooks, inks, and scrolls, suits of armor, weapons of all sorts, as well as a broad assortment of cloaks, circlets, and rings. There are a handful of folks quietly perusing the wares.

"Ah! I know that look. I live for that look!" The store's proprietor approaches, a tiefling with hair that shimmers red and black. A fancy ring hangs from the middle of his lower lip. "New customers! You can only enter Sorcerous Sundries for the first time but once. Please, indulge yourselves this moment and bask in the wonder of this marvelous place."

He bows deeply. "I am Halbazzer Drin, the humble owner of this establishment. Feel free to look around and sate your curiosity! And should you have any questions, I am available to impart what wisdom I have managed to gather over decades of the close examination of hundreds of benign baubles, ancient artifacts, and cursed... doodads." He raises his eyebrows, showing off dramatically pale irises. "Simply put... I am at your service!"

Stella's like a kid in a candy shop, excitedly looking at this thing and that, with many 'oohs', 'aahs', along with many-a-"Aiwë, look at this!" and "Aldous, I think this is a—!" and miscellaneous questions for Halbazzer. She even stops taking notes before long.

"Do you have anything a group of adventurers might use frequently? Enhanced shield? Cloak or ring of protection? That sort of thing? Oh!" She opens her eyes and flips open her tome to a sketch of Ossein. "Also, have you heard of any sightings of an artifact 'haunted by a deathly spirit'? Rather polite and erudite, maybe held by a skeleton or zombie?"

Aiwë follows Stella around, occasionally lifting Tenya to see something better, and reciprocating Stella's enthusiasm with equal energy.

"Do you have any instruments?" she tacks on to the end of Stella's questions.

Halbazzer helpfully points out some things the party might find useful:
[ +- ] Cloak of Protection (x6) 3,500 gp
[ +- ] Ring of Resistance (x1 of each dmg type) 6,000 gp
[ +- ] Shield +1 (x1 of each weight) 1,500 gp
[ +- ] Canaith Mandolin (x1) 30,000 gp
Halbazzer proudly shows off each item. "Given your expressions, I see that you might need to acquire some more funds before purchasing some of these items. But never fear!" He holds up a dramatic finger. "For I yet have wares to tide you over until that future time!"

He shows off some cheaper variations:
[ +- ] Cloak of Lesser Protection (x99) 1,000 gp
[ +- ] Ring of Lesser Resistance (x99, every dmg type available) 1,000 gp
[ +- ] Doot-doot magic flute (x1) 200 gp

As the group looks over the assortment of magic items, Halbazzer absently rubs his lip ring. "As a matter of fact, an item of this description recently left my possession." His fine eyebrows tighten. "I'm afraid it was lost in an unfortunate theft, along with several other valuable things."

The extravagant tiefling's pale eyes flash over the party once more, gauging their prowess. "Perhaps we can help each other! As you are obviously in the adventuring profession, and I a purveyor of goods highly esteemed among such... If you could retrieve my friend Ossein and the other missing items, you would have my profound gratitude... as well as a reasonable discount on my wares!"

They could afford one or maybe two of the shields, Stella thinks, but everything else seemed either useless or way out of their budget. She wondered how much he'd pay or trade for some of their items, like a few magic weapons, a Wand of Magic Missiles, or the corrupted wizard robes...

"Yes, Ossein! That's it!" Stella looks to Dieter and Ida, who were most involved in the incident at the Friendly Arm Inn involving the Shadow-fell.

"Well, we have quite the to-do list already, but when we finish with it, it sounds like it could be worth our while!" Stella says with an inquisitive smile. "What details do you have about the thievery?" she asks, opening her tome and raising her pencil. "List of missing items, point-of-entry, thieves' appearance if they were spotted, magical wards that were or should have been triggered, other places subject to similar thievery in the area?"

Halbazzer blinks at the torrent of questions. "Well, I already know who did it. I just need you to retrieve these items."

The tiefling clears his throat and lowers his voice. "'Ravenscar'." His white eyes widen to an alarming degree, and he licks his lips nervously. "You know, leader of the..." His voice drops further. "...the Guild. Normally we have an understanding, keep business going smoothly. But last week he overstepped his bounds and stole from me! Maybe all this 'Iron Crisis' business has him worried, and he's acting out. I don't know. But he hasn't answered any of my messages..."

Halbazzer straightens up and fakes a smile as other customers pass by. "The Guild's located somewhere in the sewers beneath the city, but they have at least one front on the streets. Algernon's shop, in the Market District. Maybe start there!"

Stella dutifully takes notes as he speaks, but her face slowly grows with confusion and concern and her hand slows as he continues. "Ah, yes, the...Guild. And Algernon's..." Some kind of thieves' guild? 'Ravenscar' certainly sounded like the leader of a thieves' guild. Calliope had told her of a few in Waterdeep, and wasn't surprised to encounter one now, but she hadn't expected to come across one so soon. Were Halbazzer's wares stolen goods? Still, it could be a valuable excursion, regardless of Mr. Drin's legality...

Stella briefly wonders whether she should report this information to the Flaming Fists, but dismisses the idea. They didn't need an angry shop owner and thieves' guild after them too...

"Well!" Stella says, suddenly perking up and closing her tome. "We'll see what we can do with the time we have. Your wares could be of much help, after all, and Ossein may have some answers we seek. Thank you, Mister Drin," she says with a curtsy before gathering the others and heading out.

Stella is sure she's correct that this 'Guild' being a thieves' guild, and Ravenscar the head of it.

As for the details of Halbazzer's relationship with these thieves, her guesses seem plausible. The tiefling seems awfully familiar with how the Guild operates, and even knows where one of its fronts are. And after all, aren't enchanted items some of the most valuable and sought after? Surely the Guild would want a slice of that pie. But is Halbazzer complicit in any crimes? Could the Guild or Ravenscar have some sort of leverage over the merchant?
