Here is where we are going to discuss your charater creation

So do you have a race and/or class in mind ?

I am thinking of playing a Champion of Shelyn, most likely an Elf Tiefling, though I may go with Human. I will likely be taking the Circus Born background, to represent a life lived within the Circus. Her role would likely be some sort of Ringmaster, or something similar ... Strength, Charisma ... Performance, Deception ... Athletics most likely ...

Retributive Strike & Lay on Hands would present some damage prevention and down time Healing options for the group. Question though are you using the Free Archetype optional rule? It will affect my build, if not I am not too concerned, just, mostly, curious.

Alright, here's a Pathbuilder link: Vespera Luminosa

Vespera Luminosa was born under the carnival's colorful canvas, a child of both elven grace and tiefling charm. Her mother, a skilled acrobat, and her tiefling father, a talented illusionist, traveled with a small circus that wandered Golarion's diverse landscapes. Raised amidst laughter and applause, Vespera quickly developed a love for performance and the joy it brought to others.

Her dual heritage, often a source of curiosity and prejudice, became a testament to the diverse wonders found within the circus. As she grew older, Vespera's innate sense of justice and her devotion to Shelyn became evident. She decided to champion the circus and it's performers, vowing to protect the beauty of life and art.

Ok, sounds good.

Did you want to create a trick ?

Sure! I'll read the Extinction Curse players guide and come up with something.

I am not sure how to do the mechanics, there's very little in the Extinction Curse Player's Guide on how to create a trick, but here's the narrative:

Vespera's performance, the "Dance of the Eternal Rose," unfolds amidst masked riggers wielding glaives. Clad in a diaphanous gown, she effortlessly navigates the rhythmic thrusts and arcs of the deadly blades through pirouettes, spins, and graceful poses. The gown transforms into multicolored scarves, twirling around her in a mesmerizing dance, leaving a trail of vibrant silk. Behind a sheet of silk, Vespera disappears only to reappear adorned in armor with a glaive in hand. The dance continues as she parries, dances, and defeats the masked assailants, symbolizing a powerful narrative of beauty, resilience, and strength.

In the "Dance of the Eternal Rose," Vespera's artistry takes center stage as she gracefully maneuvers through the masked riggers armed with glaives. Her diaphanous gown transforms into a cascade of multicolored scarves, creating a mesmerizing spectacle of twirls and spins. The culmination sees Vespera's disappearance behind a sheet of silk, and her reappearance fully armored, glaive in hand. The dance symbolizes the eternal cycle of creation and renewal, seamlessly blending martial prowess with artistic expression—a profound homage to the teachings of Shelyn. The audience is left in awe, enchanted by the fusion of beauty and strength within the performance.

Perfect description, I add it in the tricks repertory So it will be a level1 DC 15

You gain the injury Traits, with a fortitude check, and Acrobatics for your main check

For Traits you have the choice between Dance (which adds a second Coastar (bonus+3*2=+6) if 2 performers comes to your aid, only in the finale), or Agile (Giving a malus of -4 and -8 for 2nd & 3rd performance instead of -5 nd -10)

I will put then the Trick in the Trick repository:
Circus Management & Shows -> PC Signature Tricks

You can already answer in the main suject.

Could we shift it to a Performance check (Dance) rather than Acrobatics? Or an Attack check? Heh. Her Performance will always be better than Acrobatics ... if not that's cool. Also, I will take the Dance trait.

Final questions, since I am new to the Boards, how do I post in the In-character thread as Vespera?

Dance trait and performance, perfect.

Create the trick I will edit it, otherwise you will not b able to edit it.

I wasa little late checking your character, everything almst fine, I find a difference in the skills you should have crafting by your deity choice and should remove one from: athletiscs, accrobatics, deception, diplomacy, or society

Actual Shelyn is either Crafting or Performance. My background gives Performance (which I'm already trained in, due to Shelyn), so I took Deception instead.
Apr 13, 2024 7:16 pm
To me if you have a choice and one of the skill is already taken, you have to take the second one. There is a good example in the Fighter Multiclass Dedication : You become trained in your choice of Acrobatics or Athletics; if you are already trained in both of these skills, you instead become trained in a skill of your choice. (emphasis mine).

So if you are already trained in Performance, you should take Crafting. (It is still an open question if you have another view)
Apr 14, 2024 1:27 am
I get Performance from Shelyn, because it gives a choice. Then apply my background, which gives me performance and specifically states if you're already trained in it, you become trained in a skill of your choice.

I do not at all agree with you, but I will let it slide; let me however explain my view.

1. All proficiency are done before other class advantages and feat. The choice of a cause and a deity is Champion Feat.
2. Like we can see in multiclass dedication having a choice of several proficiency means you must takes them all to get a free one.
3. As a Champion you should be honored to take all the gifts your deity provides, since you should be devoted to her.

I am glad we can agree to disagree, because it specifically states in character creation that feats and features may be applied in any order, to ensure that you qualify for feats taken towards the end of the process. As such, skill selection would fall under that purview.

Furthermore, I would feel terrible, as a GM, to force a class which already has terrible skill selection, to lock themselves into, potentially, two skills which may not fit their character concept, or add anything of value to their out of combat experience. Relegating an already thinly skilled character to make two sub-optimal choices, could result in alienating the character, forcing them to build the character, mechanically, with a singular focus on combat, and be of little use, or enjoyment, to play out of combat.

So let's just say I am glad that you understand the reasoning behind my choices and support them.
