This thread is to talk about character background and other parts specific to you

So, I don’t have a fully fleshed out background yet, just some ideas percolating in my head. That said, I know that I want a jerbeen ranger that will eventually become either a Beast Master or Drakewarden. It’s not important until level 3, but I want to incorporate it into their background (for example, he’s deep into dragon lore).

One question I have is, if I go the Beast Master route, what would be some cool/unique/rare type beasts that I could get? Given that our characters are all animals, I wasn’t sure what type of animals are in the world. It’d be great to get something considered mythical, even if it just uses the BM stats.

How about the hybrid animals like Griffin, hippogriff, Jackelope Tressym, oelbear, or stuff like that.

Those are all in setting but let me pull sone of the cool specific ones I can find as well later today.

Forest prowler is a cool one though need to look at thematic ones

Here is the only guy who would fit his own stat block into the BM rules who isn't tiny haha

Other ones are large or higher CR and would need the generic stat block. Will put in here when I have time

I don’t mind using the BM stat blocks at all. Not trying to get a creature with powerful stats, just wanting something with a cool lore. Kinda like how Drakewardens get a dragon, but it’s a small dragon and it just uses its own much weaker stat block, but it doesn’t change the fact that dragons have really flavorful lore, and a Drakewarden gets one. It could even be like, I dunno, a turtle or something ridiculous, so long as in the setting they have a powerful/mysterious lore surrounding them.

Do any of these creatures fit something like that? They do look super cool, so they got that going for them lol.

Ok awesome, I can work with those I think, or might just come up with some normal animal.

One question regarding the lore: would the bandit coalition ever cause any of the fire stuff that’s happened? I’m thinking of a character whose home was destroyed in one of the fire, and it was done by the bandits.

The Scorched Grove is a 200 year old phenomenon. The fires encroaching on the Wood...well that is part of the mystery

But bandits do, either way occasionally burn down towns etc.

Okay, here’s a working backstory.
- Grew up in Meadowfen
- Youngest of 5 children, the other 4 accomplished in their fields, all living and in Alderheart
- Naturally gifted, but takes it for granted. Has his head in the clouds, loves theatre, and has a collection of his favorite screenplays and ballads, some of them autographed
- A big fan of the actor Silas Strongheart
- Moved out (kicked out) to Alderheart at coming of age, used his natural gifts at scouting, swordscraft, and ranging to take a job as a caravan guard — for a traveling theatre troupe.
- Attacked by bandits on the way to Winnowing Reach, and got knocked out and left for dead, the only clue he has is a scarf dropped by a bandit, with the embroidered initials BB — Burner Bandits.
- He’s been hunting for the bandits ever since, but the tracks ran cold and he’s out of money.
- He often misses out on jobs or has jobs taken from him by the Fortune Seekers guild, creating (according to him, and only him) a rivalry.
- He has a locket gifted to him by the actress Marian Silkwhisker
- His favorite stories are those with adventure, tales of derring-do, and love. His head is filled with dreams of grandeur, discovering mythical creatures and rescuing damsels.
