This is my first play by post game, and starting at level 1 with a system I already know seems like a great fit. Can I join?

Well AnonGL. That is so cool. You do make a second for this shindig if it gets a going. Really need a few more bodies.

Bubbles. Glad to have you aboard. There is a section for creation of characters in the game. And yes. Thinking to be mostly limited to the PHB would be very correct.

Shorty. Due to recent problems that I have had, I ask you. Can you post at least one a day or at least once every two days? That is the posting rate for my game. Do you have the skills to make a 5e character and know 5e gaming system.

Posting once or twice a day is no problem at all.

And I started playing 5E on play by video/voice in Covid, so that has been like 3.5 years or so now.
I won't be able to master any class (looking at you - monk and druid!) but I am able to handle most classes perfectly.

I'd be happy to join, I check in on here at least 1/day and will post on any game threads that I can. I will say that I'm in the UK so might post at different times to folks in the US.
I'm familiar with 5e, I've run multiple campaigns and played in a few. I'm easy to fit in whatever class is needed but if free choice I'll play a Bard or a Warlock this time around I think.
