Sanity Rules

There are two types of Insanity you might come across in Call of Cthulhu (well, 3 , but Permanent insanity is game over!)

Temporary Insanity occurs when an investigator loses 5 or more sanity points in a single event. You get to roll against Intelligence to see if you understand what you're seeing. You need to fail this roll, if you succeed, you fully understand the horror and enter a Bout of Madness (more on that later)This lasts for 1d10 rounds

Indefinite Insanity happens when you lose 1/5 of your starting (current) sanity in a single day. There is no Int roll, you go straight to a Bout of Madness.

Permanent Insanity is when you reach 0 sanity points. At this point, your investigator is completely lost to the world.

Over the table, you'd record how much you've lost but to make things easier, I keep a running tally here. The number in brackets is your threshold for Indefinite Insanity.
