[RECRUITMENT] Shadow of the Demon Lord Campaign

THE PITCH
Looking for 4-5 players for a full (mostly, skipping level 0) 10-level campaign. The campaign will be a trek north through in the Confederacy of the Nine Cities, with each level set in a different city, to stop the end of the world.


GAME DETAILS
We as a group will work together to create the overarching plot of the campaign based on picking a Shadow and the big bad. I have four possibilities:

1. Demonic Incursion - A demon prince was born in a mortal body and will usher in the end of the world by sundering the veil to the Void.
2. Invaders - An alien race that fled their homeworld that was swallowed by the Demon Lord has now come to Urth to take it for themselves.
3. Dreams of the Dead God - A cult of clerics and paladins to a long-forgotten god slumbering inside Urth try to waken it which will unravel reality.
4. Wild Magic - A conclave of evil wizards have used dark rites causing magic to become unstable and tear apart the fabric of reality.

Once decided, players will create their level 0 backstory on how they got involved with this quest and came to know each other. I have several ideas on this as well once we know the campaign plot.


PLAYER CRITERIA
Several things to know for interested players:

* I hope this game is a long running campaign lasting at least a year. I want players who are invested long term and can post regularly, every other day at minimum.
* Please be somewhat familiar with the game, or at least ok with a grimdark fantasy game.
* SotDL is dark and gritty. There will be lots of gore and body horror and other adult content.
* I want to explore a lot of the supplements and have players with very unique path (class) combinations. No basic fighters and rogues please. Having all the supplements isn't a requirement though, I have a list of every option and will help everyone build their character.
* Understand the difference between dark and edgy. While the setting is dark, the characters are not. Undead, demons, and worse should be frightening, even to heroes. Your character can be morally gray, but should still be a hero and try to save the world. Edgy characters need not apply.

I would love to play in this. Prompts 2, 3, and 4 are all great. 1 is good too, but I've already ran my fair share of Demon Princes haha. Also will you be allowing the use of third party content as well?

Which third party content? I only allow stuff I own and I don't think I own third party stuff except Blackstar.

I was considering Catastrophic Magic from Ra Press, which introduces a unique casting system that's chaotic. Thought it might be fitting for the potential Shadows. Alternatively, I was also looking at Embers of the Forgotten Kingdoms conversion book for SotDL (written by Schwalb) and the Apocryphal Writings zines. I believe the Bowman and Thrower expert paths in those were written by you.

Edit: Also totally cool if no third party is allowed. Just wanted to know and think about potential character options accordingly.

Both times I've tried this system it's died in its infancy, but I would love to play if you'll have me. Though I have nothing except the core book and a small handful of extra material on drivethrurpg (which I can't remember having bought).

I've lost a couple roleplays so I would be interested in playing this. It looks like a very interesting way to customize a character too!

That's ok, I have a spreadsheet with every option and if you pick something from a book you don't have I can share that info with you.

Hmm, I am already involved in many pbp games here but I would like to save the world.

One day I will play a halfling Thrower, and it will be great. No apologies necessary! The obscene amount of options in the game as is is still enough to keep me happy haha.

I'm posting this to express my interest in playing in the game. As a point of disclosure, this is the first time I've played SotDL, but I have enough general role-playing experience that I will probably be able to pick it up without a problem. Call of Cthulhu is the only other game I played that had an insanity attribute. Role-playing paranoid can be fun, and obviously, the world is out to get us, but some artistic license must be taken to cooperate and get along with the other party members.

As for the player criteria, I enjoy growing a character from level zero to godlike. Merriam-Webster describes dark as "arising from or showing traits of evil" and edgy as "having a bold, provocative, or unconventional quality." As for morally gray, my first thought is a paladin or crusader who feels it's necessary to do horrible acts to serve the greater good and suppress the heretical evil that is arising.

Damn! A Shadow of the Demon Lord campaign and I am late to apply. If there is an open slot, I would love to join. SotDL is one of my favourite RPG and I have previously played and run SotDL. I am also fine with grim-dark genre.

There's a couple of folks who didn't get in. You guys should start up an SotDL game!
