[Interest Check] Cypher, shared world, modern-day

So, I know there's some Cypher lovers here. Both on the players side and on the GMs side. We are not that many and most of us probably know each other. If you know me, you know I love to play in modern/contemporary settings. Why? Not enough Sci-Fi games and too many fantasy ones. But that's neither here nor there. I'm here with a proposition for you. And let's see if you'll like it enough for this interest check to grow into something more.

So... Recently I came into possession of a supplement for Cyper called - First Responders. As you might intuit from the name, it's a modern day setting that deals with everyday heroes and real-life disasters. It's a game where the only dragons you'll be slaying is a five-alarm fire! The only stone giant you'll be battling is a rock slide threatening to burry a small village.

Due to the nature of emergency work and how specialized workers are in their respective fields, First Responders introduces a mechanic that I think is quite conducive to a shared world game. Namely, characters roster. Whereby players are encouraged to create a roster of characters, each specializing in different things. Now, while this is by no means obligatory, it is recommended. However, if put in a shared world setting it can work even better. Where we have different GMs running different scenarios with different configuration of specialists for the particular incident, disaster or whathaveyou that needs tackling.

If there is interest for something like this, all involved would have to own a copy of the First Responders supplement. Which does need the Cypher System Rulebook to work. But, luckily, Cypher has a very extensive and well organized SRD. And this being a modern-day setting will hardly need anything beyond the core rules, which are more than enough to support any custom content one might want to try out during chargen.

So, please Cypherians, share your thoughts and opinions. Would a modern-day shared world game about everyday heroes battling the dragons and stone giants of mundanity be of interest to you? Would you like to participate in something like this? Be it as a player or as a GM, or both? How would you go about ironing the finer details and logistics of such an endeavor?

Looks interesting. You can have a game with multiple characters per player in GP.

Ambitious, but totally doable on GamersPlane. Kind of reminds me of how the various Network TV companies have a "shared world" between their various properties (AKA Gray's Anatomy/Private Practice, Station 19, and Grey's Anatomy: B-Team).

Tentatively interested - mostly as a player, at least at first. I have the supplement but I've never been sure how to make a compelling game around first responders/disasters - even with the advice in the book.

I would like to get some Cyper action, but the setting is not something I would be interested in

Love cypher, and I love the concept. How much I can contribute will probably depend on what the post rate ends up being, but I'd definitely at least be willing to dm something

I'm the opposite. Interesting setting, but not my system. Plus I'm pretty full up at the moment anyway. But good luck with this game! Will it be public?

First of all, thanks for all the responses and the interest.

As the main concept is for a shared world, it only makes sense for this to be a public game with open and constant recruitment. Even if people have multiple characters for multiple scenarios it still allows new people to jump in and form new groups or if possible join in on already running incidents.

Each DM can set a post rate they are comfortable with for their chosen scenario.

What a wonderful idea for a game. Keep us posted and I would definitely jump into a scenario or two. As a former firefighter and Search and Rescue tech, I felt compelled to back the First Responders Kickstarter, but haven't seen a game of it yet.

By the way, I am interested. As an SAR volunteer it piqued my interest.

Well, it seems there's at least enough interest to get something like this off the ground. Now, I've never hosted a game on Gamersplane. So I'll have to see how to go about starting one. And once I figure out the logistics I'll get back to y'all. Thank you again so much for the engagement.

Hello! I've been eyeballing this IC for a bit. I've never had the opportunity to play a game of Cypher. If you'd be willing to have a newbie and if there's space, I'd love to give it a try.

I've never played a Cypher game, but I'd be willing to try this theme if there's room for me.
